Some Leaked Architect's Pictures Of A Football Stadium

Thursday, 13 November 08, 11:23 PM · Comments (102)

'So Harry, are these are nailed on or my money back piccies of the new Spurs stadium?'

My reply is that these are good. Very good indeed. And certainly head and shoulders above much of the rubbish that has been floating around. Therefore passed on in good faith.

whl

The new public square that welcomes spectators to the venue will feature the roof truss of the previous stadium attached to two concrete columns acting as a memorial wall, remembering the history of the club.

Symbolically, it will act as the gateway from the old into the new.

whl

whl

whl

As you can see, the bulk of the new stadium is much larger than the current white hart lane but the height is only slightly increased. The overall visual impact will change significantly, but the design prevents a giant towering and overpowering structure at the site, in terms of height. The translucent roof reduces the impact of shadows on the surrounding structures.

whl

The roof concept is the same as this one, except this is an olympic athletics stadium proposal. The roof structure is not final, but its a lighter structure than this one, and smaller, so I don't think engineering is challenge.

whl

Steep tiers close to the action

Allianz Arena
Tier 1 24 degrees
Tier 2 29 degrees
Tier 3 34 degrees

Spurs Stadium
Tier 1 25 degrees
Tier 2 30 degree
Tier 3 35 degrees

whl

I think the design is still quite intimate given the steep tiers.
I'm more of a floating roof kinda person. Thats the aim of this roof i.e. to appear as if its floating above the stadium bowl.

Furthermore, its almost an indoor stadium since the roof opening is quite small and covers part of the field too.

At this stage obviously any design is subject to change, but these look bloody impressive. Love the roof, although with that concave shape the people on the front rows are going to get very wet when it rains!

Actually quite like it. Major plus being that it still, although a bigger capacity, keeps the intimate close to the pitch feel. Which should still give us the ability to create a great matchday atmosphere. COYS!

And if Harry Hotspur had bothered to read the Spurs Oddysey he picked these up from he'd know they are not leaked pictures at all - but pictures done by an architecture enthusiast for enjoyment only.

No one anywhere has claimed these are pictures of the new WHL. Least of all the person who made them up for fun on their own software.

You got these of off skyscrapercity.com and they are merely ideas from a budding architect using Sketchup.

What makes you think these are the actual plans?

Nice try tho 'Arry...

And I agree with Bacon Flav, it will be poxy when it rains or when the wind blows through it, they should ditch the "floating roof", it's not good enough IMO.

I might also add that those steep tiers are not only going to ensure a great view, but will also create one hell of an atmosphere.

I just can't believe how great it is to be a Spurs fan. =D

Dont want it to fail through the planning stage. Same area, same road, same postcode, same club, same heart.

Get in there.
Come on you Spurs

design so the ground is truly an iconic piece of stadia

see Norman foster design for the New nou camp barcelona!

their are costs versus all the factors of choice but this is an opportunity to have one of the best stadiums in the UK for more than

one reason .a true spectacle and experience.....for all spurs fans for generations!!

real or not, Steep high sides + large roof = not enough direct sunlight on turf resulting in a poor quality playing surface and vision-impairing shadows.

Other than that it satisfies my aesthetic sensibilities and even looks as if it might fly which would be a bonus. I'd much rather sit in the Spurs Spaceship and be flown up north than (say) ever visit Goodison or the Reebok again.

I can assure you that if these were real Spurs would have had the plug pulled long ago.
A couple of years ago Glory-Glory.co.uk & COYS had actual leaks and were "requested" by the club to remove them within a day of them being put up by a member.
Nice try at getting a "scoop" tho' Harry, shame it's about as reliable as everything else posted on here..... ;)

I just love the fact that we are actually moving CLOSER to White Hart Lane. Judging by the plans released yesterday, the new ground will be directly opposite the bottom of the actual "White Hart Lane" N17

Also, as a Spurs fan who actually lived across the other side for the High Road, (Near the Antwerp Arms) for 21 years, went to school behind the East Stand, looked after Supporters cars for a quid (away fans ÂŁ1.50) as a youth, I@m just overjoyed that the local community still get to benefit from having Tottenham in Tottenham!!

Kudos to Mr Levy and all involved!

'Arry almighty! Why this bunch of pedantic cnuts turn up just to crap over every rumour/possibility, I don't know. It's not like they know themselves what the final thing will look like -we haven't even got through the ruddy planning process yet and a shit load can change in that time. Yes there are design issues with the sketches shown, but even if they're not the real thing, they're still better than that pile of empty crates down the road.

For now, why not enjoy the purple patch and that includes confirmation of a decent plan for a decent stadium we can be proud of (if not all the nitty gritty details signed sealed and delivered).

"KSS

a world-class experience for all our supporters and visitors.
KSS is a 100 strong architectural practice with extensive
experience designing major stadiums and sporting facilities,
ensuring exceptional design, safe access, excellent sight
lines and all aspects of the spectator experience. Recent

It's a very nice design but surely if there was any chance it was genuine it would say KSS not RAFA

Too true. Cold, wet, windy. All features for the new stadium must be completely thought through, from 'christening' the ground (for all religions) to feng shui as well as all the business/user friendly aesthetics.

We want to get off to the best possible start in our new home and not have to resort to things like 'white witches' as they did at St. Mary's in Southampton.

Firstly, thank you to all who have commented. All criticizm and contributions welcome. I will definitely be looking into lowering the roof, and extending the glass facade around the stadium all the way to the top tier.

On the issue of sunlight. Earlier renders i.e. the last 2 images, show a transparent roof at the centre with fabric around the ends. This is more likely what I would propose in reality to create a better atmosphere and well..the lower membrane of the berlin olympiastadion looks just fantastic when lit up at night. I'm not sure if its been mentioned but the capacity I would plan would be around 62,000. Furthermore, in the other images the entire roof is a glass or ETFE structure, offering excellent sunlight to the pitch.

The reason the roof is "floating":
Besides my love for "floating" structures, it allows expansion to 68,000 by adding temporary seats to the upper tier. Even if Emirates is more likely to get the nod for an England 2018 FIFA WC bid, the option should at least exist to present a stadium with a higher capacity than Emirates.

Thanks and please keep the comments coming.

These drawings will be nothing like the real thing. I can't imagine the new stadium having anything approximating sides, an entrance, some form of roof and a level playing-surface. Furthermore, it's an insult to our intelligence to imply that there will be some sort of seating in the interior of the building.

Everyone knows the new stadium will be designed as a column.

By coincidence, a work colleague of mine (and a fan, to boot) sent me an e-mail which included similar images of the new stadium. He had recevied them from a friend whom he described as one who works in property and is close to the club.

Given that I know my colleague to be level-headed, free from delusions and averse to hyperbole I'm inclined to believe that his source may have passed on some information of substance.

Because by 'works in property' I inferred that he didn't mean 'installing plumbing in residential housing'; and by 'close to the club' I likewise assumed he didn't mean - as I am - emotionally attached to Tottenham Hotspur.

So, I concluded that the images may actually depict the genuine design; or show an approximate of the design; or reveal architectural concepts likely to be included in the final structure.

Then again, they may not. Personally, I think the new stadium will look a lot like the drafts. But, if I'm wrong, it's hardly the end of the world; nor should my error be a cause of wild jubilation for the gainsayers. If that's how the stadium will look, then I like it. If it isn't, then all that really matters is that we'll be getting a spanking new home that befits our great club, and an arena that will lift our spirits and support, inspire our players and intimidate our foes.

I thought MAKE were doing the overall design?? Also although this design is very innovative It may not be very good ACOUSTICALLY as sound would leak out under the roof rather than being focussed inward

dont forget that any new stadium, wven with the same number of seats will be larger than the previous one. you only have to go to the new wembley or the (hated) emirates to see that the seats are larger and more ocmofrtable and the space between the rows is larger, so that you actually have room for your legs and knees. add another 25,000 seats to that and you have a stadium which is probably twice the total physical szie. cant wait to renew my season ticket in the new arena. its about time

Cant we have a sliding roof to keep the rain out. Has anyone actually thought why we have the largest away support, because 75% of Spurs fans cant get into WHL on a match day. Sod 60,000 - make it 75,000, if we build a 60,00 ground there will still be fans who cant get in! Also get the acoustics right and scare the living crap out of the opposing teams & fans.

Sorry guys but the drawings here do not represent what were pubiished by the offical site. The major mistake is that the paxton road end will need to be demolished in order for the rest of the stadium to be completed. The drawings show both patxon road and the new stadium together

Correct, Paxton will be demolished, it will stretch now to Northumberland Park Ave. Part of the pitch will overlay the existing pitch. Whoever did these hasnt seen the actual plans, the whole thing needs to be turned 45'... there is a link in this link to a pdf where you can see the full extent...

I'm no architect, but I've been to a few stadiums including Wembley, the San Siro, the Allianz Arena and of course our beloved White Hart Lane (my favourite of them all). However, out of the first 3 I must say that the design of the San Siro was the most impressive.

It's almost a bowl contained within a rectangle with steep terraces giving a perfectly unrestriced view of the pitch. The stadium itself is iconic in design and can be seen from the centre of Milan (if you go up to the top of the Duomo).

So if we base our new design on any other stadium in existance I'd say use the San Siro as the inspiration. A fantastic venue... and it's not a bowl! :)

How wonderful to see and hear details from the club about how the process will take place.

Equally wonderful to have this set of drawrings to serve as a talking point for what we'd like or not like in the new ground.

I'm no architect so having something to look at as a starting point is very useful, almost therapeutic.

And there's a lot to like in what's presented in these designs, regardless of how it's been created or relayed to us.

I know what I like - yes, and I like what I know - and the idea of retaining parts of White Hart Lane to serve as visual elements on the new site is brilliant. Keeping a steep pitch to the seats is also essential, as is a roof design that propels sound toward the pitch. But having a design that permits expansion is also prudent.

Having a unique shape and form is also appealing. Don't want anything resembling the ArseBowl, especially with the ridiculously shallow pitch of the lower bowl seats.

So well done in getting this debate off the mark. Look forward to seeing much more and debating it into the ground.

You make us look childish and unintelligent.

If you'd rather turn this discussion into a sad turf-war then just shows where your priorities lay.
