It's official. I'm feeling upbeat about Sunday. I'm officially declaring Open Season on Pompey.
Our form is poor, but we haven't conceed the volume of goals this lot have. The key to this game will not be if Defoe haunts us wth a goal but how both defences stand up.
What was pleasing from the Newcastle game was that back four personal gaffes/ blunders were kept down to virtually zero. The only shining example of misjudgement to come out of that game will be Capello's continued inability to see Woodgate for the key ingredient he is.
And so to Gomes.
Newsflash.
He's good stuff.
There are of course a breed of critic out there who appear to have been brought up watching goalkeepers in computer games rather than real life. They will tell you 'this' was poor and 'that' was a dodgy but they are going out of their way to look for problems. The guy oozes class and whilst his temprament is light years away from the earnestness of Robinson so too is his success rate, thank Christ.
Some Spurs fans need to cease the pedantic 'Did you see that? Did you see that?' ambulance chasing and start cheering the man. Punching the ball isn't a sign of weakness, nor is leaping like jaguar and palming the ball to safety.
Get real and grasp it, people. Gomes is good for you.
Attack wise I really felt Pav looked lethal on those few chances he got. Two superb headers and one of them resulting in a tip top goal. Again. Have faith, back him and watch him come good. This guy is clearly a cut above.
Predictions then. My Indian Spirit Guide, Dave, came round last night. There was half an hour's worth of dross relating to his edlest Deidre and some goth at Uni she's taken up with and then in a disembodied voice he says, 'Tottenham Hotspur will beat Portsmouth by one goal and one goal only.'
Portsmouth to lead at half time and Spurs to win it is as good as 33/1. 1-2 anyone?
BIOYC!
2-1 to spurs sounds good HH
Pompey are without Diarra, Diop, Davies & Krancjar so there midfield is looking weak. Their defending against Citeh and Chelsea was nothing short of terrible and I really hope we can profit from the obvious panic that seems to be running through their back 4 at present.
Pav IMO will cause plenty of problems for Pompey, he won't be bullied either (just ask Collocini!)
Bale needs to start at LB and Gio should start behind Pav, without Diarra as the CDM Gio will be given plenty of space to whizz around and cause problems.
Corluka to start at CB with Woody & Gunter to get a go at RB.
O'Hara - should keep his place, this game last year was his breakthrough game and after his performance against Toon he will be bang up for it.
COYS!!
Gomes is a fantastic, positive goalkeeper... he does so much more than Robbo... he's so quick off his line, which alleviates pressure on the back four.... and his punching is fantastic, not shoddy. If he doesn't feel comfortable catching it, he takes no chances and cleans it out!
As for the result... i fear defoe haunts us, and i dont blame him... 3-1 Tottenham.
Have to agree with your comments on Woodgate - he is superb. We haven't got a chant/song for him but if anyone is old enough to remember the film "Rollerball" the hero was Jonathon played by James Caan. The crowd in the film bayed Jon-ath-on...Jon-ath-on. Somehow this fits better than "there's only one jonny woodgate". See attached link on utube. It's the final scene of the film.

"Woodys a Star" from Toy Story would seem to be the obvious contender.

Your idea if put into practise, coul rival the YIDS! chant for erie effect. Good work. How the hell do we 'launch' a new song at The Lane?
Does it have to go before a secret committee in the bogs of the Bell & Hare?
Lawrenson has got us to lose. Good. The twat hasn't called one of our results correctly so far.

I just watched the clip. I forgot the goosebumps that came free with the scene.
I may also submit for your perusal something along the lines of Jesus Christ Superstar, ('jonathan. superstar. whereever there are clearances there you are' etc etc, ad infinitum) or Defenders of the Spurs to the choon of Defenders of the Earth, if only to worm in the line 'enemies crumble in fear and confusion'; potentially one of the finest lines ever sung in cartoon history.

Now I know its by no means certain that UEFA Cup football will be ours next season but this will be a change to the norm!
Nunchucks - Great idea. Get this going and make it in a low tone. As Harry says, this will have the right effect. Some of the other clubs in Europe do it well (listen to the Turks). Lets make this happen.
Possible starting 11 for the weekend...
-----------------Gomes-----------------
Gunter-----Corluka-----Woodgate----Bale
-----------------O'Hara----------------
Bentley-----Jenas-----Modric-----Lennon
------------------Pav------------------
Defence speaks for itself, originally going to put Zok in but Gunter would seem to be the more sensible option
O'Hara at DM, maybe not the most gifted footballer but wears his heart on his sleve, always gives 100% and not shy to stick the leg in
bring back in Bentley on the right with Lennon on the left (where he was playing when crossed for Pav's goal) and Jenas and Modric behind Pav
Was going to have leenon on the right with gio on the left but so far gio has played better coming into a match late on when the opposition are tired and he can run at them.....

Winning the ultimate UEFA cup to go with winning the inaugural would be quite a feat. Winning the inaugural Europa league would be good too, but I'd rather be challenging for the Champions league tbh.

Has anyone been correct to date in predicting Ramos' starting 11????? Its about as easy as predicting the numbers for tonights euro millions. Maybe i could buy the toon for ÂŁ100m and use them as our feeder club..........
Chuckles
Good squad mate.
I was thinking that maybe we'd be better off with keeping Modric on the Bench and letting Gio start just behind Pav (as he played against Newcastle) But your idea about bringing him on later in the game (65-70mins) seems to make a bit more sense.
Gunter deserves a go at RB, he didn't do a thing wrong against Chelsea yet he found himself benched for the next game. O'Hara deserves to start ahead of Zok too. Good call, mate
Lets hope Ramos' 11 on Sunday resembles that one!
Agree with the Gomes posts, the guy is class! I said he'd be a Spurs legend after one game and I've seen nothing to change my mind. (although to be fair we've had some gash keepers so he's not up against much!).
As for BAE, out of the team now! People are saying he was ok against Newcastle, no he was rubbish!
The only thing he's ever had going for him is that he bombs forward, against Newcastle he didn't. Presumably he'd been told to sit back due to the number of times he's caught miles out of position. He didn't go forward which meant he wasn't exposed as much as normal. I've got a feeling htis was a tactical switch from Ramos as he seemed far more disciplined than normal. This is what confused people to thing he was better. He wasn't going forward, and after all that he was 100% to blame for our goal, school boy defending. Agree with the comments about Bale, for me he's a left back, he gets forward better from the deeper position. I think this is the reason he looked so poor on Wednesday.
I have no idea, Harry. I've had to have a lie down. The vision of a secret committee in a huddle in the Bell & Hare bogs has damaged me! Would you go in if you heard them practicing? They probably have an initiation ceremony early doors involving taking salts - somersaults - I think I've been in after them! And I certainly heard someone doing the Addams family theme for Gomes. Perhaps they thought we were buying Nesta?
If it was up to me I'd put the rollerball clip on the WHL screens. But that ain't gonna happen unless one of the corporate types finds some imagination and reads fansites - so it's up to readers and bloggers to pass the link on.
Very difficult to score against Gomes from long range which was easy to do against Robinson. Defoe will no doubt make several long range attempts on Sunday because he will be denied space and time to do so from close range. The Brazilian is now one of the best keepers in dealing with crosses and high balls and that would be effective solution to Crouch's height. Gomes however does need to establish more understanding with his four-man defence, particularly the two central defenders, when coming out to meet high aerial balls. The PL history of this encounter favours Tottenham and so it will be on Sunday by whatever scoreline.
Diop being injured is bad news for us as he is shockingly bad: one of the very few mistakes Harry has made. Diarra is a great player tho and we are bloody lucky he won't be around (if the info is correct).
If Ekotto, Zoks, Modric and a shoot-on-site Bentley appear on our team sheet, then even a back-from-the-very-dead Diop won't be able to save us.
If Ports lose this one, it'll be because Ramos played the right team; soemthing which looks unlikely right now....
Ports underestimated City; they won't underestmate us. The results mid-week mean nothing: it's the league that counts!
Berba's dad's a rapist, Berba's dad's a rapist,
Nah Nah Nah Nah. Nah Nah Nah Nah!!!!
One of the papers, can't remember which, reckons the Pompous line up will be similar to the one that played the Chelscum mid week. That team was (4-5-1):
James
Johnson, Pamarot, Distin, Hreidarsson;
Utaka, Mvuemba, Kaboul, Hughes, Belhadj;
Crouch.
Subs: Ashdown (g), Kanu, A Traore, Defoe, Wilson, D Traore, Little.
I can imagine that Defoe will start and given their death of midfield, Mr Redschnapps will play a 4-4-2. As for this touch and go about Diarra starting, there's no doubt in my mind he'll be amongst the starting 11. Nothing like a bit of mind games before the match eh?
Here's what i expect they'll play:
James
Johnson, Judas, Distin, Belhadj
Utaka, Diarra, Hughes/Kaboul, Traore
Crouch, Defoe
This is a match where we should, and have to, dominate the midfield. The absence of those usually delivering the service from their midfield should mean they will inevitably need to play route 1 to Crouch, with Defoe looking for knock ons. If we can stop Johnson and Belhadj on the wings, by keeping possession and shepherding Crouch out of the game we should be able to limit Defoe to pot shots from distance and multiple offsides.
They'll probably have Johnson and Belhadj pushing up the wings, possibly with Diarra/Kaboul trying to drop back when they do, which means we might have to thread passes through 5/6 in a crowded centre third. IMO we need to pass into the spaces opened up by their full backs and then convert these into shooting opportunities in the penalty area. For this reason I'd go with speed meisters rather than crosses into the box.
My starting 11:
--------------Gomes
Gunter----Charlie----Woody----Baler
-------Jenas---------- O'Hara
Lennon--------FC-----------Gio
----------------Bent
Subs: Sanchez, Zok, BAE, Thudd, Luka, Bentley, Pav
Pace and style to lead the line. Bent to start for Pav because he'll be fresher and will be starving after missing out midweek. Attacking support of Lennon, FC and Gio to run riot at Judas and Distin.
If King is fit...
- - - - - - - Gomes - - - - - - -
Corluka - Woodgate - King - Bale
Bentley - Jenas - Zokora - O'Hara
- - - - - Campbell - Bent - - - -
Otherwise switch Corluka for King and bring in Gunter.
Bench: GDS, Pav (he ain't fit enough to start), Modric (if fit), Lennon, Gunter (if King is fit), then whoever else to fill the other spots (except BAE!).
What about the Boula, Boula, Boula, Boulahruz song for Modric. The Dutch fans song it at the Euros. Obviously ours would be: Luka, Luka, Luka Luka Modric.

How about, to the tune of The Clash's Bank Robber:
"Berb's Daddy was a gang banger"
For reasons of taste and decency I'll stop there.
And, finally.... Euro 2016 will see the competation expanded to 24 teams. Allelullia I hear you proclaim. A glimmer of hope for the home nations to part-take in a major tournament. Fantastic
Trembles
What a bench! lol Personally I am giving up on trying to predict Ramos' starting 11. I liked Chuckles' idea about bringing Gio on for the last 20mins or so to rattle them. IMO O'Hara has to start. Would like to see Pav start too but we'll never know how tired he is after Wednesday night. Bents pace could be useful against Judas as he has lost his pace.
I reckon Diarra is injured and won't play. Thats because if he was going to risk him he would of done it in the cup against Chelsea.
Sunday will be interesting!!
what about Joe Kinnear at the toon, can it get any worse for the georgies???????
Joe Kinnear at the Toon, bless their poor souls.

Not me that's for sure! But then I never had all the info to hand regarding fitness, performance in training etc.
ÂŁ100m for the carToon army would be good. However, I can imagine the actual prices Ashley is trying to sell for is what's preventing a quick sale. Taxsin sold c*tteh for a measley ÂŁ50m profit, Ashley seems to be trying to make ÂŁ200m+.
As for a feeder club, who would we want from them? Only 2 come to mind at the moment...N'Zogbia (if trained properly could be immense) and Owen (a professional who intrinsically knows where the goal is - as long as we got him on a free).
Good lord!! I bet the samaritans are getting some brilliant calls up in Geordie town!
If they hated the 'Cockney Mafia' before they'll hate them even more now!
Joe Kinnear, I bet he's chuffed to bits with that one, he gets to go there, getting paid by the game, knows he doesn't have to produce results as he'll be out on his arse when the club is sold anyways!!!
The only people that lose in this one are Newcastle fans!
St James Park - Britains biggest Jongleurs!!!
Jamie, I doubt I'll ever have the same starting line up as JR. This was simply an exercise in who I'd like to play given recent performances etc. Just as long as we identify a game plan based on a full assessment of the opposition, then I'm happy. Woody mentioned that there was a definite game plan against the carTooners, and the same was obvious against Chelscum. Perhaps its the unknowns of the other 'lesser teams' that's got JR scratching his head?
Ref the bench...if there's something that has arguably improved this year is the quality we have on the bench. JR's favourie/best 11 haven't been identified yet, but regardless with the options we have on the bench (as long as Daws isn't there eh?) could probably win us games.
To get a song going at the Lane one needs to just go along, have plenty of beer and just sing the fecker when its quiet.

Trembly,
Not criticising my friend. I would put my prefered starting 11 up but it annoys me when he doesn't pick a good 11 after we all kind of agree on a side here. (know what I mean?)
The bench is good and very strong, However there are players that I obviously want rid of (Gilberto, BAE, Dawson)
Just for the hell of it I'm going for the same team as Chuckles had up earlier on:
-----------------Gomes-----------------
Gunter-----Corluka-----Woodgate----Bale
-----------------O'Hara----------------
Bentley-----Jenas-----Modric-----Lennon
------------------Pav------------------
I fully expect the side to look nothing like that come kick off on Sunday and I strongly reckon that Bent will play in place of Pav. But like I said that would be my choice!

I bet they play BAE again instead of Gunter. Given portsmouth's lack of confidence in defence, I think it would be wise to attack early.Bringing on Gio instead of modric from the start would help do that. I'd like to see a role for FC too.

I think it has all the ingredients of an instant classic...alright but the words are easy to learn?
Ram-alamadingdong will play Bent and Bentley I bet you... Love the Octopus, Corluka looking better every game, as I said the other night we've spun our side on it's axis this season, which is ultimately to say, we need to score less goals to win games. I think we'll win 0-2 on Sunday.
We got Hull, Stoke and Bolton next month for a banker 7 points: that will be 9 points from 8 games. If we lose Sunday, then we will go to Emirates end-Oct with 9 from 9 and will get nothing there under those dire circumstances.
However, if we can somehow win on Sunday, then we'll be set up for a real go at the gooners when that game comes round.
Sunday's game is a massive, MASSIVE game!

agree that we have to start this weekend, need to start getting some decent points on the table and moving up.
In the great words of Yazz "The Only Way Is Up"
I can't get excited about any of those lineups.
I would play:
-----------Gomes------------
-Corluka--Woody--King--Bale-
------------ODM-------------
Lennon--Harry--9_37--Trembly
------------JGM-------------
Benchwarmers: Bentley, J2S, PLN and James.
Can't be any less effective than some of the lineups that have already been wheeled out this season.
I'll take that as I'm recovering from an ankle knock. Impact sub will have to do.
Its a long road ahead.
I have to say I' thinking of knocking on the managers door on that one! I'm ready to go boss, I've been planning my revenge on Judas for years!!
A question for Harry: (please consider this as it is a serious question)
Would you back a decision to sack Ramos if we lost on Sunday?
Note: Hoddle was sacked with a 1-1-4 season-opening record. Jol survived a 1-1-4 season-opening record, but was sacked later on 1-4-5. Ramos currently has a 0-2-3 record!
Yeah MarkyMark, Defo!!!
We haven't won a trophy in months, Sack the board, sack everyone.
can we please stop with the ramos out comments until after sunday's game.
i for one believe that if we lose on saturday, which i'm pretty sure we won't, ramos should still be given time to find strongest 11 which he clearly hasn't been able to yet but the pressure will be on him
Do we have a song about Berbatov yet? Someone needs to write something quickly cos he is due some abuse. Something about his dad being a rapist would be ideal - please please please make it happen!
Your dad's a f*cking rapist..
To the tune of "you dont know what your doing"
Do do do, your daddy is a rapist.
Do you rape girls like your dad, do you rape girls like your dad.
To the tune of "Shall we sing a song for you"
Ber-Ba-Tov - when the girl says no, molest her.
"to the Van Pers*e tune obviously.
Proper chuffed to get in the squad although, I doubt I could match the quality or style of the merest flicker from a strand of Ginola's wavy locks.
A right footed left winger? What is the world coming to? I always seemed off balance crossing/shooting with my left peg, although it has to be said, I believe I can still boot the crap out of someone just as effectively as with my right. Little in the way of pace, but I can still sharpen my plastic studs if that helps?
Somehow the idea of 9_37 as a classy playmaker makes sense. And JGM as a no-nonsense old fashioned centre forward with lots of bite (and elbows) seems spot on.
Nun - in my mind, you'll be great as a pacy attacking midfielder again with lots of bite and presence.
I reckon BC as the manager (he likes a good raincoat and is spitting image of el general) and I'd have Ginge on as well, after all he did rather well last weekend.
To the old operatic Berbascum tune.....
Dirty Old man Berbatov
He didn't ask to have it off
What a dirty rapist scum
And his son is getting raped by Ferguson.

Dimitar-tar was a rapist's son
And when his daddy would gang-bang hed come along
When they gathered round and started stalking
Thats when Dimi would start up wankin
A-through the back door they'd be spit-roasting
Then she'd scream into his eyes
Lord knows to his surprise

Was the son of a rapist man
The only boy who could ever save her
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, mmm, yes he was

i'm a bit slow on the old uptake, brain has shut down, thanks for pointing it out nun
I love Gomes....he must give the defence so much confidence...he comes for crosses he's off his line in a flash, couldn't be more different to Robbo.
Had to watch the Villa game on the box, away on business, but i hated the commentator going on about him being Brazilian (all Brazilian keepers are sh!t, of course!!) and being a extravert (why?? just because he throws the ball). They even mentioned the 'c' word........clown. Its such lazy thoughtless comment and it really pissed me off......and then he let that goal in which it just going to perpetuate the whole situation. But i love him, he's a winner.
As for Sunday, we all know what confidence, or a lack of it, can do for a team. So despite Pompey being a quality team, if we get an early goal, their confidence will be rocked and they'll be thinking, uh oh, here we go again. SO, there order of the day for me is NO ERRORS at the back , so no dawson in the team please!! and a Positive approach. Lets go at them and test their confidence....or is our confidence still not high enough to do this?? who knows. 2-1 to the Mighty Lilywhites COYS!
Its a damning verdict on Michael Dawson that to eradicate defensive errors everyone has realised that Dawson must not be let near the defence!
I said it before the season began and an awful lot of people were slagging me for it but Dawson is utter tripe and quite why and how he got a new contract at WHL has dumbfounded me. Lets hope that we flog him to Newcastle in January for more than the ÂŁ4m we paid for him.
Just read this on the ESPN Soccernet website.
LINK
It appears that Bale has picked up a foot injury (i did hear that he went off and strapped an icepack to his foot on Wednesday night) Lets hope it was just a sore one and not a break/fracture! IMO Ramos was counting on Hutton & Bale to play a huge part in our tactics this season. The bad injury news is that Dawson IS FIT and back in full training! NOOOOO!
Guys, show some common sense:
When the papers say 'Spurs for Top 4' add the salt. When you read City 6 0 Ports and see teh headline 'Ports in crisis' dig a little deeper.
Ports have played Chel, Everton and City away & ManU and Mid at home and stand 4 points AHEAD of us in the table! We had 3 winnable games at home and Boro away.
Now they have US ay home. Honestly, now lads: who do you think is shittin?
Oh do shut up about Dawson. It'll be Woody and either Charlie or Dawson, I trust Ramos' judgement rather than a few keyboard cowboys.
Devonshire - we've been getting more than our fair share of anti spurs commentary and press articles this season. Lets hope Karma pays a visit and we prove them wrong.
In homage to our new star keeper, and shoe in legend, heres a song written by someone previously:
Huerelho, he's a yido
Huerelho, he's a yido
still not sure what tune that's sung to though.

So you would you would be happy to see Dawson play on Sunday?
The very Michael Dawson that was to blame for Boro's 2 goals on the opening day? The very same Dawson that chose to shut his eyes and let Ashley Young walk past him against Villa? the very same Dawson that has been perpetually sh*tter as the past 18months have worn on?
When he first joined he was a gem, rough round the edges but a gem nonetheless. He's been found to be a piece of broken glass that we mistook for a diamond.
The boy is sh*t. Whoever gave him a contract extension needs their heads checking. However, it must be the same person that kept BAE on after 3 years of him doing absoloutely nothing apart from keep the physio busy!

"Whilst he plays for us and continues to give us 100% I will back the boy and I genuinely hope that he realises his potential whilst he wears the lilywhite shirt." Anon.
Well, actually, this quote is not that anon. It was said just this morning by some guy in Glasgow.
Enough already with the Dawson assassination. The quote is honourable Spurism, whereas the constant reiteration of 'Dawson Shitness' less than five hours later isn't really.
I'm with you harry, I've been impressed by Gomes - he's even managed to start improving his kicking, which is probably the only area in which Robinson can claim the high ground.
Nice to see Pavly scoring for us as well, I feel a lot more positive about our prospects after seeing us play against Newcastle.
Yes, we still lack a bit of firepower, some CB cover and a top class DM, but maybe, just maybe, things are finally coming together.
Remember the collossal Dawson performance @ West Ham in the "nearly" game.
Looked like the jolly green giant he was so rough, still ploughed on though. Respect Earned & gratefully given from my perspective.
I'd urge people to lay off Daws.
Nunchucks
Yes I did write that quote and I'll stand by it. If Dawson plays on Sunday I'll want him to play well but I can tell you for certain that he won't.
I'll want him to play well as I do any player who wears the shirt on a match day but when the guy is as terrible as Dawson is at present. I'll be annoyed & angry that he has managed to get yet another start despite him being a pasty master of disaster.
The simple fact is that Jenas offers something to the team and IMO we look worse off when he doesn't play.
Dawson on the other hand is terrible, offers us nothing except for incompetency and the almost knowing fact that at some point during the game he'll cost us a goal.
JJ at present is doing his level best to drive the team on and encourage whereas Dawson must create more problems than he solves.
Simple really.

He played well back then. I'll admit that season he was rather good & thats why I don't understand his rapid decent to the utter tripe that he is now.
But when was the last time you have watched a game and thought "Dawson played brilliantly today" or just before kick off seen the line-ups and though "Dawson will mark him out the game no problems!" ????
I bet it was a very very long time ago! I reckon at least a year, maybe even 18months.

So...I just want to be sure I understand; do you think Dawson is any good?
His weaknesses were masked when King was fitter a couple of seasons ago and when Robbo had an ounce of confidence. As soon as King was out for long stretches and Robbo had a meltdownm, Dawson was exposed: poor positioning and peripheral vision, choosing to pass back most of the time, even when there are options for a safe, short pass moving forward to the midfield. He has gone from bad to worse lately with his tendency to grab oppositions player's shirts in the box when he's lost their mark.
He's a liability. We're better off without him.
An individuals physiological makeup could be responsible here. Could it be that Dawson's body and mind work better with tomato ketchup and jellybeans? After all his body did pretty much go haywire after the new diet and fitness regime thrust upon him. My personal belief is that he has never been quite the same since that dodgy lasagne.
There are a variety of factors that one can collate to back up either argument. Whilst he has been relatively SHIT of late, I won't be the first one to HIT him for it. I simply urge that he works hard to regain his right to challenge for the position, and repay the faith given to him.

My Starting 11, since it appears Bale will be out. Even if he has a small knock I highly doubt they will risk further long term injury with only BAE/Gilberto as backups.
Ohara looked decent enough at LB last year, and also gives the team a decent left foot on set pieces.
Around 60/70 mins Gio goes in and Gunter sits, and Zokora goes back to right back. Not that Gunter deserves to be taken off, just this seems to be Ramos's tendency.
My issue is not that you dont rate him, it's that you seem to get a case of the big purple vein popping out whenever anyone mentions him.
Everyone has an opinion on our players which is fair do's, trying to force it upon the rest isnt.

I think if you go 4-4-2 with Lennon and Gio on the wings you are going to lose some grit in midfield and we'll have some trouble winning possession.
Besides Lennon has honestly been our most effective Left midfield player yet (both assists from the left wing). Bentley is out of place on the left, Gio looks more comfortable on the right, Bale looks better at LB.

Lennon has looked good because he is the winger on form at present. Bentley has been out of sorts (both fitness and form) and for that reason I would start with him on the bench, with a preference for Gio to attack with pace and flair against what would be the oppositions weak points. My particular preference for this match, as explained in my post above, would be to go 4-2-3-1 with a particularly attacking formation, although with a disciplined role for the back for and 2 holding MF's. its a null point arguing the case frankly as neither of us are JR.

Indeed. I wouldn't question your authority on these matters, Grasshopper.
The main differences between the start of last season and this is that we've stopped leaking goals but sadly stopped scoring at will.
But as Harry says Gomes and Pavlova are both class acts and if we feed Roman he will score. Scoring 77 goals in 147 games for Spartak is pretty darn good in anyones book.
We must start winning games now. It is the time for the team to gel together, play bwith no fear, and we must up the shots on goal.
Gomes - getting better at saving shots,he must stop spilling them for the opposition to score.
His kicking must improve.
Corluka - impressed at center back, and should play there against pompy
Woody - excellent.
O'hara - a good surprise, and should play some part against pompy. Would be great if he could continue scoring goals from midfield.
Zokora - never sure about him. You either get the good or bad, never consistency.
Bentley - must improve all round. Wing play and corner + free kicks.
Jenas - alright, but must step his game up.
Lennon - an enigma, can be great but also ineffective
Pav - improving.
Bent - needs through balls, and passes on the ground.
#Subs
Dos Santos - a good supersub
Campbell - shows what Bent lacks, tactical awarenes, and when to make runs

Just to re-open the old Jenas the Genius or Jenas the Junkie debate, what he needs to be doing is taking control of matches which is the talent of all top central midfielders. JJ seldom is seen to do this whereas that's exactly what Modric does for Croatia and we can already see him doing it for us.
I would also remind all those of you who think the Modmaster needs toughening up that besides the Croatian league he's also played in the Bosnian league and I would imagine the Prem looks like a Sunday school outing compared to that lot.

ODM - I tend to ageree!
I think Modric has the ability to be the fulcrum of our team like Cesc is for the other lot. We have to be patient with him, I not sure its the physicality of the league so much as the pace (& lack of movement from the rest of the team) he's not yet got used to.
JJ is a different type of player. I like a ballplayer and a hatchet man in the centre of a midfield. JJ is neither, he could be top notch but he just doesn't seem to be able to get a consistent run of performances together.
He may work with Modric, JJ and DM in a 4-5-1 with JJ beign a box to box type with Modric scheming and a DM (O'Hara or Zokora until we get someone better in - hopefully Jan!)

Ok, so is anyone getting a little bit irritated by the fact Spurs are constantly drawn against top-flight opposition in the cups? We have Liverpool now in the League Cup, how many times have we met Man Utd in the FA Cup in the last decade?
Compare it to Chelsea. I'm not going down the route of shouting 'rigged' like some people do every year, but it's getting plain daft and more than irritating. Not that Spurs are in any better position to face a potential giant-killer than they are to face Liverpool, but even so. Pretty damn irritating. Been a very long time since Spurs had a relatively 'straight-forward' cup draw.

i know pav looks good but wouldnt keep bent out of this 1 his pace could realy hurt judas and co
Include Bent only if the other players provide him with passes and through balls on the ground.

great i really must be a cunt am i the only one on this planet who wants to give a guy(Ramos) who has won cups in a strong league and also has the tactical cunning of a bloke who will not wait till the 87th min and stick another bloody stricker on the pitch, a bit of time. The guy said it might take 13 games for the team to click and to gel and to play like he wants them to play. Fast attractive football with emphasise( sorry hh no idea how to spell) on the flanks getting forward. Thats what i want i want a guy to come out and tell me look its a bit shit at the mo the teams compleatly different and i need to get these guys playing and understanding the way i want them to play. Or would you like some one who can not asses a team and fucking blindly talk bollocks and say yeah we will win the prem this season. its the first time i think i know the manager will change the tactics formation at 50 mins if its not going to plan. i like the bloke and would like to give hive not 13 game but 2 or 3 seasons if that makes me a cunt then im the biggest one there is. Yiddo Out

Well said. In that case I'm a cnut as well - although a lot of people already knew that.
JGM's wish of a foreign billionaire might be on the horizon anyway? You've probably already seen The Guardian's bit about Pini Zahavi trying to broker a deal with a Singapore based billionaire. A well run club with extra spending money, sounds good to me as long as its not someone that wants to put all the debts back on the company as Manure's lot did. Keep Levy on board to manage the business and I think this could work very well. We've essentially got what amounts to a 'foreign owner' anyway what with Big Joe based in Florida. But lets see who this guy is first and then measure up whether he's the right man.
Dire god. I'm not sure 'pass it across the back four, then let headless-chicken-Ekotto punt it forward' is a great strategy.
I thought Wisla/Hull would be a gentle little run-in. Now i'm gonna watch the games from the bog, so i can safely shit myself.
Um, pluses, um, shoulda had a pen, Lennon's shot was class, um, Bently put at least one good ball in, um, our strikers would score goals if they had better service, um, the Scum lost, um, Defoe scored, oh wait no.
Bring on the billionaires. We need a band aid the size of WHL
ol' rednose was one game away from the boot remember, and look at what they turned into
because they still did shit in the league but won the cup he kept his job - i know you cant polish a turd but he isnt christian gross now is he?

Would be surprised if i saw King at the centre again this week, more likely Corluka brought into the centre and possibly Zok brought back. Would also like to see Bale brought back even though BAE wasn't bad wednesday night...
Overall, with the way pompey are currently playing i am optimistic , i'd go along with your 2-1 HH
COYS
Totally agree on Gomes. I remember one terrific shot that I think Martins took. With Gomes positioning and handling he just took it calmly. With Robinson it might have been a goal with everyone saying the goalie had no chance. The guy made one mistake against Villa. I remember Robinson making 3 in the same game last year. Pompey generally don't play well against Spurs - but then again neither did Sunderland. I reckon if we score first, we should be ok. I also really hope Bale starts at left back
