The Frank Lampard Caption Competition

Sunday, 31 August 08, 06:10 PM · Comments (166)

Courtesy of a very generous Yid at NewsPics Ltd here's a couple of fantastic snaps for you to play with...

"We're adding a little something to this month's contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize?

[Holds up prize] Second prize is a set of steak knives.

Third prize is you're fired."

No caption, just feeling very ill seeing that 'person' in a lilywhite shirt.

Harry, please put up warnings before showing things like that, I was about to eat but have decided against now.

Oh yeah, I wonder what happened to that dopey student who ran on the pitch at the lane trying to twat him last year?

Anyone know?

Commenting on the game.....

I was very impressed with our second half showing and we we stopped Chelsea from building up any head of steam. Woody and King looked good at CB and Bale competent at LB. I was very very pleased to see Gunter at RB and he didn't let anyone down. Zokora ran his socks off and did a very effective job in CDM despite still lacking in any real ability he had a good game. The main problem area was up-front, Bent had very very little support and he ploughed a lone furrow for most of the game, Ramos obviously knows that this is a position that needs strengthening and the rumoured signings of Milito and Sergio Garcia and the possible AA deal could still come off and strentgthen the front line.

All in all I'm sure it will be a very busy day of transfers to come and with any luck byt the time the window shuts at midnight tonight we will be one sulky bulgarian short and a new crop of WHL heroes to the good.

Milito is far more likely to come than any other striker you mentioned. Reports are that the chairman of Zaragoza is in London to try and broker a deal for both Milito and Sergio Garcia.

It would take a seisminc shift in views and negotiations for us to sign Arshavin now. Seemingly as Harry said in a previous post, Zenit agreed a fee then changed the payment structure at the last minute. I reckon Levy is sick of dealing with the idiots at Zenit and he's now pulled the plug.

Huntelaar won't come (if he does it will be a transfer miracle!) Falcao played for River Plate last night so I doubt he's coming either.

Doesnt sound to be bad to me according to Wikipedia. Almost Bent-esque and his youtube videos suggest that as well!

Diego is currently club captain at Real Zaragoza, taking over this role from brother Gabriel who departed for Barcelona in 2007[1]. Milito was one of the top scorers in the La Liga 2006-2007 season[2]. He scored 23 goals, two less than the top goalscorer Ruud van Nistelrooy and 3 behind Golden Boot winner Francesco Totti. His goals helped Zaragoza to a sixth place finish in the league. As of January 2008, Diego was averaging better than a goal every two games for his current club, a statistic he also achieved with Genoa.

I think he looks good, but a bit similar to what we've got (with less pace) as in a 6ft + target man who gets on the end of things, I'd rather we bought someone who gives us a different option.

Milito's more of a winning the ball target man than than either Pavlyuchenko or Bent. If he was cheap, he'd give us more options especially in games against teams like Sunderland where they have physical centre backs. I say if he's going for cheap, get him in - will only add to our options. I want a squad that keeps the opposition guessing. Not one where they know what our team and tactics will be every single game.

Well said mate. I'm all for options! If he is going to be that ball winning striker then it also means we can use him in a strike duo with either Bent or Pav. Like you say, options is the key. Variety be the spice of life!

On the whole I've enjoyed the Berbatov movies.

The first of the trilogy, 'The Berbatov Identitity - Genius or Moody Ba5tard', was action-packed and thrilling, and the drama really drew you in. The hero's skill and finesse was entertaining, and you were always urging him to remain one step ahead of the other side.

The second, 'The Berbatov Supremacy - Play or P1ss Off', was knife-edge stuff. Really good but frustrating, as the main character has everyone going in circles and eating out of his hand. But you just knew there would have to be a final, concluding story.

The third, 'The Berbatov Supremacy - Screw You and Never Darken Our Doorstep Again', I haven't yet seen, but it sounds exciting. Has anyone seen it? I'd love to know how it ends.

Regarding the Chelsea game i thought we played well. Zokora was quality in CDM role and Gunter settled in quite nicely at RB.

I am annoyed that Jenas is vice captain as i do not enjoy watching him in the first team. All of his passing is sideways or backwards. I think it is time to unleash the HUDD and drop Jenas.

Would anyone be happy about Frazer Campbell being part of any bid from ManUre to take Berba to Utd??

Saw him in the championship last year and he looked brilliant. Also thought he outshone Rooney in the ManUre vs Newcastle game.

You mentioned too many strikers in the last few days mate.

Campbell, Milito, Larsson, Luis Garcia, Huntelaar, Falcao, Arshavin, many more i can no longer remember.

So which one is it that you want?

JS. At the start of the window, I would never have thought this would be the striking lineup: Bent, Pavlyuchenko, Milito, Fraser Campbell

Not the guaranteed goals of a van nistelroy and villa combo that I wanted, but I'm hoping ramos knows alot more about what makes these players tick than I do. If he can make Kanoute the scoring sensation that neither Harry Redsnhnapps and BMJ could, then we've got a chance.

If the transfer Gods are listening,
I'd take Arshavin, to link with Pav.
Larsson for a year, and Campbell for
the future.
Thank You!

Like you said I dont think its the striking line-up we all imagined either but with the very fact that our midfield is alot stronger than last year and that we will eventually start to create bundles of chances then the strikers we have should be able to do a job for us. Personally i really think Pavyluchenko could be a good buy for us and Bents goal on sunday will give him a bit of confidence too. Miltio as you said earlier will give us more options up top and enable us to change our system and style when needed and Campbell will be the young gun who could well prove to be a revelation given the chances.

The thing I like about our squad now is that its a young squad that will grow together and mature together. Hopefully as this happens the results will start to come. The season is still young and with morale boosted after Sunday's game I think we are back on track.

Can anyone else remember the tragedy of 'The Wreck of the Sergio Garcia'? I think they made it into a film some years back.

It was an environmental disaster at the time. When the vessel foundered on the rocks of White Hart Lane, the resultant pollution stretched from Tottenham High Road right up to the Ferry Boat Inn. Terrible.

The story involved several shady characters and villains. There was the dodgy Bulgarian who spoke idealistically of 'dreams' but, in reality, had his eye on the dough. Then there was The Chairman (as he was known), with an eye so sharp for business that wouldn't pay over-the-odds for a cream-cheese sandwich. I recall a Prince being involved in some small way, too (although I seem to recall he wasn't a real Prince at all, but a charlatan). There was also the man known as The Director, who instilled fear in some, awe in others and made yet others puke. No one really knew what he did, but he was known to be powerful.

It was all so long ago now, that famous Wreck of the Sergio Garcia. And you would never guess from the green shoots and roses that now grow in N17 that the whole area was formerly declared a disaster.

I think its very hard to keep 4 top notch experienced strikers happy. Jol found this out with Defoe, Berba, Keane & Bent.

Say we do have Milito, Bent & Pav then those 3 will ideally have a large part to play. Someone like Campbell at his age and stage of career would probably be happy to be getting games and minutes as a support / back up striker. Which would keep all the strikers happy.

paul - what we saw was our team playing more disciplined roles, Sometimes, people only pick up on the flair or the howlers. Unfortunately one really key element - the shepherding of the opposition - isn't always picked up by the TV cameras, and so fans don't spot the hard work. By not allowing them the space they need and in some cases, simply by being in the right place at the right time, they can act as a deterrant - stopping the playmakers chosing that option. I agree with you. This isn't playground stuff - lets not all just chase the ball, and appreciate the efforts away from the ball as well.

Did you notice on corners how they were man marking yesterday? Ledders was on Terry etc. That part of the game was superb yesterday - focus and discipline. Just a shame about the fluke first goal...

paul tbh - not being able to get down to whl, and having worked up a big stress about the match, I couldn't watch the game properly the first time on telly. So stressed was I that everytime we lost possession I had to nip off to the fridge to get a beer! I watched the whole 94 minutes again last night, and studied the movement. Much better than when I saw it live. There were small mistakes a plenty, but lots more positives especially the off the ball stuff. I expect had I been lucky enough to be at WHL or at a pub with my mates, I would have seen something completely different and would probably have missed most of what you saw/ i saw later. Still - am very happy by the fact we had a game plan, and relieved that it sort of paid off.

I do agree with you Mag, but against chelscum that's not always the way to go, espically away from home. Look what happened as soon as him and modric started going forward against sunderland.

Hudd, although a beatiful player, at the moment doesn't have the graft that a prem division CM needs IMO, but the club must see something in him to give him a new contract and the boy is still only 21.

By the way.....

Anyone see Robbie Keane's latest stellar performance in that hideous Liverpool shirt???

What an absolute waste of space, time and ÂŁ20m!! His "big chance" came along, he was one on one and he ballsed it right up. Only to be substituted later on.

hahaha I saw that. Oh how I laughed with glee =D

Corluka - cracking signing, heres to hoping we can get a striker and a DM before the window slams shut!

COYS

Yes the soon to be richest club in the EPL are in for Berbatov, so he can hold hands with his best mate... and they'll pay! Question is do we want to help Citeh? :?

I'll carry the corpse there myself.

(In a length of rolled carpet, of course ;) )

better get a shift on, only 10hrs 40mins to go and it long way to Manchester with a dead weight on your back ;)

Hello mate ;)

A move to Citeh is a step back if anything so there's no way he'd go there surely?

Unless it's just his dream to live in Manchester rather than to play for United...

well he cant stay here.

i reckon his strop might well backfire

Militos contain too much artificial sweetener. They give me the squits.

If we get in excess of ÂŁ30 mil for Berbatov we can surely buy Arshavin, no? Plus, we get to see sulkychops suffer at the hands of Sparky, and Rednose's red nose rubbed right in it and made even redder.

Here's the latest on Arshavin today from Harry's best mate Jasper:

Looking very good I've been told, no one else in for him, all agreed, loads of paper etc flying around. 32 month payment plan,, we've agreed an increased bid, just sorting out pieces. My knowledgable mole says, "looking good..."

Very audacious move by citeh! Suits me though. get the price we wanted plus mess utd's plans right up - Brilliant. Just ashame that we would be selling to a clear 4/5/6th place rival... I think the arshavin deal will go through, that and milito plus maybe another 1 or 2...here's hoping. Corluka, good buy.

Haven't you paid any attention today?

Manchester City said on Monday they had signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG), who are seeking to buy the Premier League club from its Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra.

They are willing to pay more for the player than Man Utd. They will pay Berbatov more than Man Utd. And his slimeball agent will no doubt earn more commission too. And he'll be with his best mate Petrov.

Sulaiman al-Fahim, an ADUG board member who will represent the group on the Manchester City board, was quoted on www.arabianbusiness.com as saying: 'We will release details later, but this is a great event for both the club and Abu Dhabi.'

'Our goal is very simple - to make Manchester City the biggest club in the Premier League, and to begin with, to finish in the top four this season.'

Yeah. It's probably not going to appeal to Berbatov's ego, going to "a bigger Chelski".

Do you think people give themselves multiple identies to cover all eventualities? Arshavin in, Arshavin not in; Arshavin in with Veloso, Arshavin out but Veloso in. That sort of thing.

It's a bit like being the banker on a roulette table. You always end up winning.

slightly off this topic but how much of his full potential will we see considering his season is (i think) over halfway through, he will effectively be playing without a break for 16 months if he joins us and plays our season out

I dont think we should sell to Citeh. Whats the point of significantly strengthening a direct rival for 5th or even 4th spot?? Realistically we know that we can't match ManUre for money or in terms of squad etc. So they aren't a direct rival and we wont be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Citeh despite all the shit that has surrounded them this season have had a very good start. And as such selling them Berbatov would be a big mistake. Levy must see this?????

I doubt Berba would join Citeh anyways. The only thing they can offer him is his best mate Martin Petrov!! Lets hope Fergie stumps up the cash, throws in Campbell and we can offload the foul odour that is Berbatov.

The point is though that he wants to be at the top table now and he is guaranteed that with United as oppose to joining another 'project' that will take time, if ever, to be realised.

I just want rid of the sulky bastard!

Ever since he joined and had a brilliant season I have been ready for his departure. I knew that he wouldn't stay with us for long and that ManUre would want him. So I kind of made peace with him leaving. The problem is that its been so protracted and now its just fuc*ing boring me to death.

BERBA JUST FU*K OFF!!

I have it on top quality ITK authority that the reason Lampard was so keen to pull a Spurs shirt on and make the kind of pass to bent for our goal that Jenas can only dream of is because we're using the Berba money to buy him.

You heard it hear first!
