They couldn't be happier. Updates.
Transfer negotiations with our illustrious leader were once likened to buying a second hand washing machine from someone on hire purchase.
Things haven't improved any for our current business aquaintainces.
There is much sabre rattling coming from both Boro and Pompey, but all the defiant quotes they can muster will prove insufficient solace against the grim reality of being pillaged by the Tricity Bendix Barons of N17.
Downing is running a similar campaign to that of Bentley before him. No direct quotes to the press, but plenty of indiscreet chat in northern bars. His father drew short of announcing that his room's just as he left it, Gazza poster above his bed, but did name Tottenham as his boy's preferred destination.
Defoe was doing a cute job on his own when it came to wriggling out of Tony Adam's clutches. A bad cold and death threats looked - in the Mickey Mouse minefield of modern football - almost sufficient enough to earn him a pardon from Portsmouth. But the precarious financial situation at Fratton Park has eclipsed that lot.
It is being touted that Alexandre Gaydamak's financial obligations to Levy are not only back breaking but backdated.
There is lolly outstanding not only on Defoe and Kaboul, but hold tight on the upper deck, Mendes.
Add to this, Portsmouth are only just recovering from a nasty bout of Pantspulledownitus which they incurred after being reminded that part of Defoe's sale to them included a kick back to Tottenham should the player then be sold on within an agreed space of time.
The Press Gangers wanted this onerous element eliminated but Levy said he couldn't hear them over the noise of the tumbledryer.

so if there is a sell on clause to us, we can offer them more and still pay the same price as the other apparent suitors to defoe. it really seems downing wont be coming tho from all the paper talk and "quotes"
HARRY HOTSPUR
THE DEAL IS DONE DEFOE 15 MILLION INC ADD ONS FOR QUALIFICATION TO EUROPE
It looks as though Portsmouth want £12 million and we just won't match their valuation.
The thing is, we'll end up getting him, but at the end of the window as Levy will stick to his guns and not increase the offer.
I can see the same thing happening with Downing, who I feel is not worth more than £7 million.
and does anyone have any idea about dos santos?
hes spose to be fit now and still dont seem to be playing, and if the rumors of him being sold are true its a terrible decision. Barca would get between 20% and 40% of the value he is sold for which ever paper u listen to, and no one would buy him for more than we paid so we would just be making a loss, he didnt look bad in pre-season either
THE DEAL IS DONE DAVID VILLA 28 MILLION INC ADD ONS.
I might have got this wrong but didn't Harry tell Pav not to bother since we are getting him exchanged for Maradona. Seems our youth policy is out the window then. Was'nt Downing only nine years old when we made our first bid for him.
I'm not sure how much more of this I can stand.

I've got some anti-hystamines if it will help
I think getting JD back is a good thing (and will happen) - he, Pav and Bent will score given a supply....and there's the rub. From what I can see our midfield is just not good enough. Id love one day to see Zok end one of those lung busting runs with a shot/stumble/scuff etc that goes in (just a pass to a colleague would suffice). Ive tried to keep patience with JJ but he is simply not good enough. I want H to fix us in the middle of the park. Weve got enough squad players who, when played in the correct position, can do the rest - even when Campbell gets called in for his tea by bacon face.
If the deal has been done for defoe how come it has not been revealed yet?
stop being a liar

LOL - I've listened to many papers - but could only hear the rustling - maybe it was Arry doing that?

£7 million for Downing are you serious ,them northern barm cakes don't travel well.He will be with us for six months before he will start whining to get back to the land of Misery that is the North of England .
The clubs are said to be only £1.5m apart in their valuations of Defoe. FFS, what's that these days? I'll chuck that in meself!
Reply to FlippyFlamingo:
I think they're just running it past Commolli first.
Good piece of writing H
In the name of free speech do us a favour and delete all the tossers
Yeah - I would prefer to see Dos Santos than spend a penny or any time considering downing......... just where has he gone, Harry said he was looking forward to seeing him play after his injury....maybe we will see him tomorrow on the bench against burnley, with taraabt and ghaly?? and did i hear you say boateng and rocha?? I think go for it!
our exciting youngsters never really do much recently, dos santos taraabt pekhart, the irish striker with injury, KPB, we just need to keep a manger who is excited about the same one rather than changing every year
I'm happier than I was, even though I'm not Defoe's biggest fan. It looks like we'll just take him back and let Pompey rip up their IOU's. As such we should still have a few quid in the coffers to sign one or two others.
Good work H, this sort of stuff is why I enjoy reading your site (Oh & listening to JGM's rants & ODM's moans - no offence lads!)
Still thing we need a ginger (all good teams have them).
Two other points - got Graham Roberts book for xmas, my favourite player growing up. Didn't realise he hated David Pleat (who comes across as a tw*t in the book!)
Secondly I know we're in silly season so plenty of stuff to write about at the mo...... however a couple of comments by Nunchuks & JGM on the previous page re players being Yid's etc (so is Dave Kitson etc etc) I think we should try and put together a Yido 11 of spurs supporting footballers - just a thought.
Reply to James147:
Maybe it means Portsmouth thinks he's worth £1.5m and Spurs don't. Heh heh, just messing JD fans.

i'm on the Graham Roberts book too, Pleat does come across as a bit of a twat, but that of course is Robert's view.
Graham Roberts, now he was a real man, never saw him in the papers with a bra on his head!
Also juggling that book with 'The Boys from White Hart Lane' players stories from the 80's.
Paul Miller had a similar view of David Pleat so there prob was something in it!
'A kick back to Spurs should the club sell him on it an agreed time' - It gets better.
Sounds like Pompey will owe us money to take Defoe back with all the out standing debts to us!
Couldn't agree more.

I am praying that the Defoe to Juventus rumour is correct, so that I can stop having to read through endless pages of nonsense and we can start discussing players who will actually improve our squad.
Pedro - we found the answer to our central mid problem last Friday in Modric. He was absolutely brilliant. Everything I've heard from 'arry since that match leads me to believe he's going to stick with the 4-4-2 and Modric in the central mid position. Unfortunately, he also seemed to allude that he is going to keep Zokora at DM. The Wigan goal would never have occurred with Thudd at DM, as he always cuts out that pass across the top of the box, as would be expected from any decent holding mid.
Has anyone else heard that Stephan Appiah joined us today on trial for a week. I know he's a similar kind of player to Zokora, anyone rate him? Would you have him in the squad over Zokora?
Of what ?

I implore you to heed the calls for you to stop using capitals... it doesnt get your point across more loudly.
I suggest if you must continue to use them, do it SPARINGLY. That would imply a level of intelligence hitherto unseen, respect for fellow members, AND possibly be a sensible use of the function- depending on your viewpoint.
Usually i prefer to use them at the start of a sentence or with names...
Of course if your caps lock button is broken... just say so!
Defoe will be good but no more than 15 mil.
Appiah's think will be good
Downing is not amazing but he is one of the best left footed wingers in the prem.
I think Nicky Shorey from villa for 3 mil or loan plus Tal Ben-Haim 3 mil or loan.
Plus Back up Goalie for Gomes.
I know Im being greedy but would still love to the Smoothbum at the lane and that would piss off gooner fans.
nothing says retarded quite as well as TYPING IN CAPITALS LIKE THIS FOR NO REASON WHAT SO EVER. its almonst as if they were put on a keyboard to convey a lack of intelligence.

Evening all....
Harry, have you turned this blog into an after school club or are DV, ODM & BIMI just antsy because they haven't been fed??
First thought..... APPIAH!! Thank f*ck for that! Finally a CDM who can actually do his job, Zokora cannot and will not hold a candle to Appiah. He's on a free, he's talented and he plays in a position that we desperately need quality in.
Defoe.... OK, by signing him we might be going back to what we had before but I for one think that given a run in the side and paired with Pavlyuchenko he will score the goals to push us on this season and in future seasons.
Downing... I think i'd only have him if we play under £10m for him. Hopefully through a combo of Levy playing hardball and Downing digging his heels in that we'll get our man.
Hunt.... I like Hunt, he's a hardworker and can provide valuable service from the left side of midfield. For £5m I think he'd be a great buy. We've missed that graft and workmanlike attitude that Steed gave us. I think Hunt can provide it and its something we've missed.
wait... you mean Zokora's a footballer??
Reply to jolsgonemental:
That made me laugh. The movie too.
has anyone got a link (not wikipedia) to this Appiah story??
DV,
Gio as much potential as the boy has is not ready for Premier League football yet. He reminds me (in the games he's played in so far) of Ronaldo when he came to the PL. On his day if things go for right for him early on he's brilliant, if they don't it affects him. IMO he needs loaning out to someone like West Brom or even a top level Championship side so he can earn his spurs (see what I did there?)
In all honesty I'd rather see Hunt arrive than see Downing come in for big (overpriced) money. As we both agree on, Hunt is far more of a fighter and battler than Downing he also provides an end product IMO.
I'm going to be wanky (spot the difference & win a prize) and delete the next CAPS LOCK post.
Hopefully that should quell the Anadin across the globe.

His goalscoring ability. How many of us can say that they have ever ever ever seen Zokora hit a shot that was anywhere near the goal, yet a tunderbolt from the edge of the box?
anyone watching the build up to Blyth vs Blackburn?? Setanta are practically w*nking themselves off at the prospect of a cup upset as if it's never happened before..
"there have been old men crying in the streets all week," exclaimed the commentator before kick off..

and when? I thought he has yet to play under harry and ramos hadnt won a league game at the time of his sacking.

And whats more if that wasnt bad enough, you are discussing the merits of Stewart Downing or Hunt improving Spurs and without a hint of irony.

Agree,
GDS hasn't changed a single game for us. He played well in pre-season but so did Darren Bent!
Not saying he is a direct comparison to Ronaldo. More to Ronaldo's attitude and promise when he first joined ManUre.
JGM... please identify one player from our squad (excluding O'Hara) who have fight and talent that we desperately lack on the left of midfield. Bentley is improving but has not impressed on the left, Lennon loses his impact from the left and O'Hara for me is more suited to CM than LM. IMO Hunt has more fight and a good consistent end product to match his effort.
The situation we find ourselves in at present combined with the January transfer window problems (overpriced players and clubs reluctant to sell) mean we have to go for players like Hunt.
oh of course. he set up a goal. once.
and so has ronaldo.
thanks for the heads up on your success story. Will Smith to play the lead?
Afraid not mate, don't know where that came from! Fancy a bit of Barca though at some point and we'll hook up if & when I do.
Reply to jolsgonemental:
excellent point JGM.. ever so subtly put too..
Appiah... Free agent because he had a big falling out with Fener's management/boardroom over his knee injury and new contract. He's over it now and by the looks of it all of those clips were in his Fener days. He HAS TO BE better than Zokora. Buy Appiah, sell Zokora to Pompey for £10m! We'll be laughing!

bloody good to be home. Roll on tomorrow. Hossam looks like he'll have a game. Maybe him and throw in a pinch of Tabrat and who knows what i'll happen.
P.S you telling us someones a yid 6 weeks before the site and it being true? never
Smokescreen?
I've underestimated Levy; this must be the most elaborately planned transfer plot of all time.
Three years of using Downing as a transfer decoy. Just when is Levy going to unveil the true target DV?
By the time this amount of smoke has cleared, I'll be expecting Ronaldo - complete with zimmer frame - to hobble out of the smoke giving us one of his famous winks.
Reply to Bimmi:
Understands?
Cant they just go to our training ground and look?
Seems to me that with his unique physique, young Steven is not exactly a hard man to spot.
Reply to spursfan333:
Good point. They've usually got some knob loitering outside talking shite.
'Arry must have given the bloke a kit.
Reply to spursfan333:
well done to southend on saturday....were you at the bridge....?
If he is so good then why did Fenerbahce (spelling???) release him from his contract several months ago?
He's probably good enough to offer an opportunity, no more no less.

hahaha
Be nice, the man has a name, and that name is.....
Dider Zokora.
Shitemaster extroadinairre.
Hes so good, he can convince Real Madrid hes a real football player!
Reply to spursfan333:
On the subject of people talking shite outside the training ground; did anyone see a straight faced Gary Stevens seriously considering himself for the job when Ramos was sacked?
Reply to TMWNN:
i saw that on ssn.....the presenter asked him if he'd be interested....i think he was....but to be fair to old gary stevens....i'd rather see him at chigwell than sherwood....
Reply to TMWNN:
Stevens has been hawking himself for a while...
Good call, not pretty viewing....
Jermaine Defoe, He's a Yiddo!!!

You big cynic. What a dreadful thing to suggest
Guess I am alone in this but actually feeling some empathy with Charlton. Why not loan Gio out to Charlton and help them out of their mess? Personally its one club I'd hate to see go even a step further down. They could really use Gio and even Rocha given their current shortage of cash options, and the wages would be manageable for Charlton I would imagine.
Reply to Richard:
He wasn't released, he terminated his own contract with consent from Fifa after the Turkish lot failed to pay him because he was injured.
The guy could be class for us if he gets fully fit and considering the fact that he's on a free it's hardly a gamble to take him on until the end of the season to see if he's still got 'it'.
Plus, if it's leadership skills we're lacking (which pretty much all of us would agree we are) then who better to bring in than the guy that Ghana picked for the African Cup of Nations, even though he was injured, just to inspire the rest of the squad?

Looks like Caps happy HappyHamster was right...
My old man, said to me
He's seen a player, who loves a volley
So I said, who is he
He goes by the name of, David Bentley
David Bentley!
David Bentley!
He goes by the name of, David Bentley
Can't wait to get slated for this! We need some new songs, especially for the boy Bentley.
find it funny that people on here believe such useless rumours but because that guy typed his defoe story in CAPS nobody wanted to know. I knew this story was correct yesterday, I have one or two contacts that are probably similar to his in the sense that I/we really cannot release their names as that would end all knowledge ha!
Harry desperately wants Downing and is biting Levy's balls off for him. But Middlesbrough are doing their bit, so hopefully we will move on and use the money for more worthwhile moves. You've all mentioned Hunt - how about we get Kevin Doyle in that deal too so we can send that Campbell lad back to the Manc? I was still hoping for Podolski despite the Defoe deal being done, but that's seeming more and more unlikely now.

May i ask do you rate him ?
Apart from his volley which almunia should of saved, what has he done for us lately ,i love mty spurs just dont love bentley noone could love him more than he loves himself
Reply to happyhamster:
To be fair, I have been dissapointed with him in terms of set pieces, assists and his pace, however he was a good player at Blackburn and players don't just lose ability, its all about confidence with him I think. I just don't undertand how giving him stick will improve him? Honestly I'm a season ticket holder so I go quite alot and it just gets to me how much stick he gets, its just laughable that when he does score those same fans will be praising him.
Reply to Joe:
Bentley = no pace ,no pace
Bentley = over confident in his own ability that he doesnt feel he needs to improve
Bently= little or no work of the ball ,little tracking back all this for £15 million is outrageous .
Yes he thought he was to good to stay at arsenal on the bench but Arsin Finger rarely gets it wrong .
At Blackburn he had a strong Middfield supporting him.
I hope he can improve he cant get much worse
Reply to happyhamster:
Ok
So glad Defoe has returned to Spurs... Hes the only one i wanted back from the ones that left... Thought it was possibly the worst thing we done except paying 15 mil for Bentley atm. Aaron Lennon should be picked 1st over Bentley to hopefully sort his career out!
There is no one else i want back... Chimbonda... please no way!!
Tbf i dont really want Downing... Think he is way over rated!!
