Football is a love affair. Often with a sting in the tale. If this is right, I say embrace it and move on.
If you're dating a girl (or a boy) and it isn't working out, it's lunacy to attempt continue the relationship based upon the basis that you simply don't want to see them with anyone else. That said, Teemu Tainio & I are still disputing ownership of numerous CD's. In my own mind, anyway.
Aston Villa have come in for two of our lot. David Bentley and Tommy Huddlestone. Archibald on Spurs Odyssey says so, as does a lunatic at the Press Association I met on Saturday night at a wake. HH, a diverse blogger...
The figures vary madly and I would ask everyone to just take a deep breath and take into consideration that the Bentley monies quoted when he signed were all based upon both Club and International appearances.

If a self proclaimed ITK says it then I'm buying, got my Ashley Young and Scott Brown kits already printed.
They are sitting next to my Van the Man, Huntelaar, Veloso, Capel, Santa Cruz, Kallstrom, Villa, Cisse and Trezeguet shirts.
Bring on the new season!
This all part of 'Arry's triffik new plan to get in a stronger midfield and strike force so we can achieve the impossible and grab a heady 8 points from our first 2 games next season.
I am betting he'll fail to pull it off.

What about your 'smart arse' t-shirt? Do you keep that underneath?
Na, got it tattooed on my chest, and spelt out with suncream on my back.
Just a quick side-note, I ordered The Lane Of Dreams following HH's recommendation.
Came Friday and is a thoroughly good read.
I'd recommend it highly... especially with Fathers Day coming up!
HAHAHA! PLN you joker!
Do these gob-shites really think they are getting Ashley Young?
Oh dear... i feel sorry for Spurs fans and their lack of intelligence (most of them anyway).
If Ashley Young wanted to go to an under achieving, stalled club he would have went at the time he chose Villa over Spurs!
He chose us Spurs! get over it... just keep wasting money and ruining players careers... its what you do best!
*fakes a cough and mumbles the word cunt

Younes Kaboul
The list goes on....

Uve had no players to ruin u MUG!
Reply to Aero-Villa:
You are a clown, sir.
Bent - Our top scorer.
Gunter - still a teenager
Routledge - Do you know something I don't?
Chimbonda - The pair of you can do one.
Bentley - Half a point, but only if he excells elsewhere.
Santos - On the wine according to sources.
Boateng - Another manchild.
Kaboul - Yeah, a superstar before we ruined him.
Aero, you need to come back with something a five year old couldn't dissemble.
i doubt young will sign for you and to be honest after a mind blowing season bentley just had for you i dont think i would want him at villa but tom huddlestone could be a player that switches clubs!!!
If my memory serves me correct you had Routledge and he still wasn't a world beater.
Reply to Aero-Villa:
Don't get your Alans in a twist, you'll still have Heftskey to provide all the speed and entertainment you deserve when Young's gone.
Swap deal or not, I would hate to see Tommy go. He may be a luxury at the moment, but he's set to become England's (and our) future star. There's nothing better than watching Hudd spray the ball wherever he pleases on a fine Sunday afternoon. His passing is an absolute art at times.
villa boys, you are having a laugh. one good season and suddenly you are bigger than everyone ever. thats why people are buying your players as soon as they get good.
young will come home where he belongs, i dont care what happens the other way, not money, not any player (except Lennon), ive done all my caring
Reply to Yidd09:
you should see him in the canteen spraying packets of ketchup.
Darren Bent= decent. scores goals, unlike gabby
Chris Gunter = came from no where, now your talking about him
Wayne Routledge = can he compete with lennon, if so he is welcome back, but we both know the answer to that one.
Pascal Chimbonda = again 1 good season, came to us, got into europe twice and a cup final? mmmm?
David Bentley = over rated, always has been. will end up at villa or everton and will eventually be as good player as the once "very promising" matthew etherington.
Giovanni Dos Santos. very young and yet to be unleashed, time will tell
Kevin Prince Boateng. crap, surprised you never got him
Younes Kaboul, decent player, remind me what we have done to his career?
You are obviously very worried that your hammers reject (hammers reject. that is saying something) mr harewood could end up replacing carew too!
Aero-villa. As his moniker suggests, his arguments are full of holes.
I'm a Villa fan and I apologise if AeroVilla has a few too many bubbles up top.
He may have a point about players looking good and then going to Spurs to look very average, but then again that an be levelled at plenty of Villa players too. I'd very firmly put Ginola in that list when he arrived in Brum, just to prove you can also sell on the same sort of stuff that you buy in. Hey ho, the point remains, teams like both of ours buy our Sasa Curcic's and Chris Armstrong's, and every now and again one of us will pull out an Ashley Young or an Aaron Lennon. The chances of one of us selling to the other is really very slim and only happens in the imaginations of bored tabloid journos. Players that can look good but more often look average, players like Huddlestone and Bentley are transferred a bit more often.
I'll bid you farewell and keep my fingers crossed that somebody finds a cure to stop Harrys face from melting any more.

Reply to Aero-Villa:
and by doing so missed out on a medal
yer billy routledge did go there and they made him look worse than we did, i think alot of villa fans aint in the real world and seem to think they are light years in head of us, dont think they realise we took more points than them over the last 30 games of the season when harry took over, and young didnt choose villa over spurs villa were prepared to pay 10 mill for him at the time, bad judgement on our behlaf not him choosing you, i mean lets me honest who would choose to move to birmingham? even less likely when he was living a 30 minute drive from white hart lane before he signed for you lot
Darren Bent - Is as good as he’s going to get, 3 managers who never rated him. Not good enough for us mate.
Chris Gutner - 19 years old, only got another 15 or so years left in the game, may as well hang his boots up now. Career barely started how can you say he’s ruined.
Wayne Routledge - Unfortunate injury, couldn’t get past Aaron Lennon.
Pascal Chimbonda - Had the best seasons of his career in a spurs shirt moved him on coz of a bad attitude, brought back for cover due to injury.
David Bentley - Given a chance early season, performances didn’t warrant a guaranteed first team start, cannot and never will get past Aaron Lennon.
Giovanni Dos Santos - Great skill, technically sound, way to lightweight, wont make it in the premier league full stop.
Kevin Prince Boateng & Youness Kaboul
Both good young players, unfortunately premier league way too much for them, Boateng especially, Kaboul has improved at pompey but come on hes never gonna be a world class defender why should we keep him.
Aero Villa,
Ashley Young - He will leave you sooner or later, I think sooner, whether it be to spurs, grimsby or the 'top 4' the more he improves the quicker he'll go.
We spend money and churn out players like the worlds gona end, because we are desperate, desperate to achieve and be the best we can be, and we will do it anyway and everyway possible, and we will succeed.
p.s Your a prick
Evening all. I'll be very happy to take Bentley and the salad dodger off your hands because they'd both fit into our team well.
I can understand why you would want Ash Young but MON loves him and it's just not going to happen - Im relieved to say. If a CL team came in with a bid of ÂŁ40 million plus then maybe but a player ex with Spurs? Nah.
I'll be very interested to see what candle wax face does with your squad over the summer because I expect Spurs to put last season behind them and have a good go at the top four clubs, along with us Everton and Citeh.
At least the Prem is starting to get interesting now and it only takes one of us to break up that cartel..
Have a good summer lads.
Jonny Villa (No relation to David)
Aside from the alleged potential Ash Young exchange, is this a good idea?
Would we be strengthening our direct competition for a challenge at the top 4 slot with our fringe players?
With confidence and game time, both Thudd and Bentley can ping a decent ball onto the head of a proper leading the line type striker. I dare say they could do so for a Carew or even a Pesky.
ÂŁ20m or Ashley Young plus ÂŁ may persuade me, but I'm loathe to strengthen anyone else with half a chance.
Shit on the Villa - fcuk off to your own page!
Now, if we sell them Hudd and Bentley and dont get Young we are clowns.

With Mr Bently yes we're all sorry that it hasn't worked out, but i wish the boy well. Let him go to villa and i hope he does well, just not as well as us.
take care ladies

I think Bentley would be decent for us, Huddlestone too, but he can't be a replacement for Barry.
And how can you think you would get Ashley Young, why would he take a step down?
If he was to go it would be to a top 4 club.

Clown is a bit polite H - he is a cunt (lend BC a loudhaler), how the fuck did we ruin any of that lot, if truth be known their careers with us have been highly profitable for them - shame they are in the main not very good players.
There ain't one player in that list bar bent who's done anything for spurs except trouser a load of money from us for doing fuck all.
Bentley should go as he won't get a game while lennon is at spurs, I'd keep hudd and sell JJ. Would rather we sell our deadwood abroad though - less chance of ex players scoring against us as per usual
Reply to _AP68_:
tottenhams not the city is it? london would be the city... but still if i had a choice of tottenham or listening to that brummie accent daily, id go with tottenham everytime
If Redknapp can't see the potential in a central partnership of Huddlestone and Palacios then I'm somewhat disappointed. Along with the pace of Lennon and Luca's visionary trickery, surely that's a midfield four with everything necessary to win football matches. If the Scott Brown rumours are true, then a pairing of him and Wilson would be sufficiently destructive and dynamic, but it may prove to be a little too one-dimensional.
Reply to billyspur:
I'd take Beirut over hearing that Brummie accent on a daily basis, it surely is the worst accent in the country, at least the Geordies and Liverpudlian accents have comedy value.
Reply to AdamReeson:
It's funny that you think going to Spurs is a step down when you are trying to buy our rejects! Not saying Young is spurs-bound at all, but you must recognise that you only finish above us when we are playing silly-buggers. Look at our squad mate!! Take out club loyalty and think: why would Young stay at Villa? To play with who....????? You wont get top four next year - nowhere near! - (neither will we). But, you are the weakest team out of Spurs, Everton, and Villa. Payers are objective mate, that's why Keane left, that's why Barry left. Get over it.

so there!
We've as much chance of signing Aaron Lennon than you have of signing Young.
Having lived in North London for 8 years, i dont see the appeal. Overpriced, run down shithole. I really dont see why people use locality as a reason why someone would go to their club. Considering most clubs are based in the run down parts of the cities/towns they are based in and also because the vast majority of these players dont even live in those cities/towns anyway. I believe the majority of the Villa team live in Worcestershire or Staffordshire. Villa's training ground is in Warwickshire in a nice rural area.
Same with Spurs, Id guess the majority of players live in the nice spots around Hertfordshire than Tottenham or Islington.
I come in peace,
Villa fan here just wanted to know what your thoughts on huddlestone is he seems to be a good passer of the ball from what ive seen of him but do you think he is carrying to much weight at the minute he seems a bit slow, i cant say im to keen on bentley he seems to have gone off the boil bigtime i think it was a case that at blackburn he was a bigfish in a small pond so to speak and has never recaptured that form and on the whole has looked ordinary, Huddlestone isnt a starter at spurs is he?
Reply to Aero-Villa:
ACTUALLY, Young didn't choose Villa over Spurs. Young wanted the Spurs move but Spurs refused to meet the 9 mill asking fee...
I think your wrong sly, spurs may have been the better team once but we've clearly been the better side since the arrival of MON, and your rejects we're after are typical MON signings.
I do think spuds will be back a their best next season but it will be without ashley young, after all he is an arsenal fan
Reply to spagbol:
Entitled to your opinion..... But, if you've clearly been the better side since MON, then how come we've taken more points than you since Redknapp took over? Not so clear is it. Haven't we also won a trophy and been to a final in that time as well?
P.S - add Ginola, Routledge (what was MON thinkin?!!), and indirectly, Luke Young to that reject list.

have people actually thought that scottbrown might be the cover needed for the sarge - not just to play alongside him every week regardless of the opposition. we are weak in the middle without him, Zok cant do it, thudd cant do it. Ever thought arry might be buying players that can fit into three or four different systems with the minimum of disruption to the starting eleven?
Diversity in systems will win us the blood and thunder matches against the shite teams that take points off us every season for no reason apart from we play like pussies who cant change their game plan.
To acheive what we want i think arry is going to go about it the right way
I am on the port so this may be as sensible as i get tonight (gulp)

To be fair Man City (Main Rd & The Beswick Bowl), Liverpool, Everton, Man U are all in shit holes.

As for MON who has he signed? Heskey, Sidwell, Shorey, Zat Knight, Davies - I'd be worried if I was you especially as he's after our reserves!
Harry aint achieved jack yet. Oh yeh Sly... What cup was you won cos i've forgot, was it the FA cup or UEFA cup?.....
Reply to spagbol:
It still needs polishing!
we had a terrible start to the season and took drastic action to remedy this. It worked, without that poor start we would be top four - fact.
Villa had a terrible end to the season, worse than our "blip" what has your manager done to rectify this?
Sells his best players and goes after our reserves
Hate to say it but villa next season could very easily become another newcastle.
I sincerely hope not (its west hams turn)
I would be worried if i were a villa fan.
1 "decent" season and they think they rule the world! Spurs had 2 top 5 finishes back to back a couple of years back, and when we looked like challenging for 4th at least it went till the last game and not January! Villa are a good side but severly crumbled under the pressure. They thought they had 4th bagged so took their foot off the gas with all the other competitions and blew it. Martin O'Neill may be one of the highest regarded managers around at the moment, and looks to be putting a good side together, but there is a big question mark over what he's doing with Villa and the way they capitulated. Spurs will be back challenging for 4th/5th next season, mark my words, and i think they would be whether they got Young or not. The stats tell their own story, if we collected points at the rate we did with 'arry in charge all season then we would have absolutely pissed 5th, ahead of Villa. So to all the shit pot villa talibananas, try looking a little bit deeper before you decide who Young would be more likely to get success playing for. C.O.Y.S
I personally don't think villa will sell to us so this deal is all transfer window bullshit as per - we should look at real madrid's cast offs first - royston drenthe was the best player at the last Euro U21's tourno - he's got the lot and would fit in with our club on the left side.
I like MON but he has bought some shit players while at villa - they will carry their poor form on from last season and struggle next season - losing barry and laursen will hurt them.
Reply to _AP68_:
Alf Garnet is dead? Shit, my Grandads gonna be so upset. Wow no more bubbles to be blown from Alf then. Anyway whats a west ham gotta do with this? oh and one more thing SHIT ON THE VILLA!
Carew, Young, Petrov, Milner, Gabby, a team with these players would never go down.
Barry leaving is exactly what we needed to lift the gloom off our players. We've finally got the funds to buy players which is why we've progressed every year since the arrival of MON, top 5 for us next season. You jews have had the funds for years and produced sweet fa.
P.S As soon as harry gets a better job offer, he won't think twice

And that is the difference between us, you are sampling this for the first time
We have had it for years
Wish you all the luck but there is more heartache to come, just as you get a grip on the top four, clubs will buy or unsettle your best players, not because they want them but because they fear you.

I agree, MON does frustrate me in the transfer window but seems to be doing something right, i know i keep saying it but since he arrived we've progressed every year.
Lerner's only been here for 3 years, ellis never parted with a penny.
I think if we can bring in the right players i don't see why we can't get our form back.
Next season's definitely going to be our toughest with everton and yourselves playing like you are but i'm sure of one thing, the "top 4" will be broken next season whoever it is
Villa fan here, hope I fall into the "articulate" lot that HarryHotspur mentioned before; if not, oh well. My take on the situation is that, whilst Spurs are steadily improving under Redknapp's leadership, it would still be a pretty big step down for Ash. He's got UEFA Cup football here next season and though Spurs have as good a chance as anyone of cracking the top six next season I don't see him moving to somewhere that it's not guaranteed.
Because of that I simply cannot see it happening. I'm not delusional, though... If one of the big four, or even City, came knocking, he'd be gone in a flash.
Re: Bentley, I've heard a lot of Villa fans (i.e. _AP68_) saying things along the lines of "If he can't cut it at Spurs he's not good enough for us", but that's madness. I don't think he played enough of a part to really judge, and he was clearly distracted by the London factor and his call up the England squad. I firmly believe he'd flourish at a club like Villa with a manager like O'Neill to give him an arm-around-the-shoulders and get his confidence back up to full strength.
In any case, good luck for next season.
I'd just like to thank Aero-Villa for this evenings entertainment! Well done Sir, now if you don't mind fuckin off I think they need some balloon dogs and hats making down at Billy Bear Fun Factory.
Villa have just lost their talisman captain, you have a void to fill in midfield. The possibilty that you can get 2 decent players for 1 slightly better player seems a good deal to me in today's economic situation. I honestly think Bentley would have done a job for us if Lennon wasn't around.
Martin may just think 2 for 1 is too good a deal to miss out on!
alright- i might have mentioned the size of our club!!!!!!!!!1
it is the biggest in the world to me.
Thats what makes us fans
I love my spurs, everything else pales into insignificance.
Notnice when you have to sell your best and get shit in return.
How do you think we felt with a certain bulgarian fucking off at the eleventh hour (even though we knew it was coming) and being palmedoff with frazier "the shit zorro" ca****ll
Why are all fans so fickle. Few paper comments and thats it the player is there's. As they say its the silly season for transfer rumours....
And to all spurs fans who can only grasp and what a good run in they had from january it means nothing, a season is over 38 games its all about pressure of which they had none as they were in no mans land...the previous season villa also had a good run in from January and guess what they were also in no mans land at that time and what does that prove....jack diddly
Get with the plan i don't think either Villa or Spurs are going to break into the top 4 and i can only see young moving to a top 4 club depending on what kind of season he has coming up...he still has alot to prove!!!
Spurs Fans your not a big as you think...
Carrick - Requested to go to Man United.
Berbatov - Requested to go Man United
Keane - Requested to go to Liverpool and leave you in the mire...he only came back because the scousers rejected him...
Eventually i can see lennon also heading up to either old trafford on anfield as well as Wilson..
and they are places no where near london so get off your high horse...
Looks like your Man united feeder club!!!
For the Villa
Barry - Requested to Leave. Will be a loss but can be replaced only time will tell.

As for all that bigger club nonsense what a load of bollocks.
I am not interested in being a "Big" club I want us to be a successful club. When any supporters go on about being a bigger club than any other it's a sure sign of an insecurity complex.

Does anybody remember when Steve Morrow scored the winning goal in the 1993 League Cup final for Arsenal?
After scoring, Tony Adams (quite likely drunk) hoisted him up in celebration only to drop him again. The resultant fall left him with a broken collar bone and a swift bout on the stretcher while recieving oxygen. He missed the FA Cup final the following week.
Sorry to sidetrack. I just read it in a magazine and laughed out loud.
Ha.
I think it's the Spurs players that ruin the fans. All those chewed fingrnails and panic- and heart-attacks; all that hyperventilation, torn-out hair, depression and seeking solace in the unhealthily large consumption of liquor - all can be laid squarely at the door of the Spurs players, who have ruined many a good fan.

Given the direction you've been going since the new year I doubt whether Villa will be chasing even top 6. Spurs are more of an open question which may attract young Mr. Young ( Ashley I mean !)
Have I missed some sort of world changing event somewhere? I thought Villa managed to finish 6th. once. and now they are on here talking to us like they are our equals or something.
Thanks to a very decent start this is is the first season I can even recall them registering on my radar, in many many years.
funny club Villa, apparently quite big back in the day, but until recently I wouldnt honestly been able to tell for certain what division they played in.

Apologies, as I know that this is off the current discussion, but to be honest we should let nexts seasons football do the talking with regards to who may be a 'bigger'/'better' club than who. I myself do not want to test fate by dousing myself in pure conjecture. I hope ofcourse, that next season will be that which is not only not another 'transitional' one, but also one where our beloved club produces a consistent and sucessful run of results that place us in a respectable position when it comes to the last day. As the rest of us well know, we will just have to wait and see what transpires. Now, to my original, off the point, point; I saw this article (LINK) and wanted to ask HH and others whether this would mean losing the name (which I must admit I am rather fond of) White Hart Lane and replacing it with one similar to that found down the road (Scumirates)... Any ideas fellow Yids? Much obliged.

There are a heck of a lot of deluded Brummies on here tonight. What's the point if arguing. You hum drums want to see it your way, we (as usual) view the world in our own self depreciating but ever hopeful yet honest manner.
Do I begrudge V*lla for having had their most succesful season in eons? No.
Do I hate, resent or am jealous of their club? No.
Do I wish them well? No - but that's because I support Spurs. I don't want anyone else to do as well as we do. I don't want to be friends with other clubs. I don't want their fans to contemplate thinking of us as their second favorite team - as we were when we had those 2 x 5th places in a row and a trophy the season after.
So with as much grace as i can muster after reading some appaling anti Spurs gumf on a Spurs supporting site, kindly peddle your nonsence elsewhere. We ain't buying. We may do a swap for some of our reserves but that's all you get. And yes, the recycle bins are that way...
Reply to LDNYid:
At the risk of getting a little misty eyed at the thought of losing White Hart Lane, I can only assume a potential blockbuster deal with an Arab company (perhaps one that is aggressively seeking to increase their own market share itself - Etihad, perhaps?) will be worth it for the following reasons:
The club, and it's stadium capacity need to grow in order to compete on a level playing field. Simple economics really. We have far too great a need for extra seats for the poor bastards that aren't season ticket holders, and do not get the chance to attend many games. Poor bastards such as myself.
Besides, White Hart Lane is it's own special place, I'll forever cherish the memories I have/
There will only be one White Hart Lane, commercial forces dictate that the New Stadium will have a brand attachment. But if the increase in capacity affords me the opportunity to watch my team with greater regularity, then I'm all for it, assuming that the design promises made (intimacy, atmosphere that makes WHL the great stadium it is) ring true.
Reply to Trembly:
Spurs & Newcastle were i think supporters second favourite teams as they play good football but will never be a threat
To be honest maybe that may change with harry the big mouthed twat in charge...we will wait and see as only time will tell.

Reply to MysteriousStranger:
I do take your point very much in to account, I do understand economically it is necessary to gain sponsorship for the stadiums build. However, unlike the emirates, our stadium plans are more of an expansion rather than a change of scenery. (the scum like moving house). Does that not hold that we may keep our stadium's name? But, maybe you're right, maybe even an expansion (in such a large and completely reconstructive sense) is too much a change to maintain the same name. Sorry as I would be to see it change. Etihad stadium does not have a ring to it though...this worried me.
Reply to MysteriousStranger:
Can't we have "Flithy Rich, Arab Money Stadium" in flashy big letters

"At White Hart Lane"

I know which one I'd focus on.
*worries
LDNYid: No.
the Sounders play, and how they acquired the name of their stadium?
SSG: No.
If they are stumping up the cash, they want their name on it. SSG, kindly remind us where your beloved 2nd team
LDNYid, I would also point out that although it is being built in part next to WHL, it is not an expansion, rather a new development, the latter part of which will be completed on the old site. And pray tell what kind of business would go, here's ÂŁ150 million pounds to build your club's new stadium, we don't want our brand attached to it though? That is not how it works. It's a Naming Rights issue. Hence it's reference as the Naming Rights stadium. So that whoever stumps up the most attractive package gets to name the stadium after their company.
Nice quote from Paul Barber about selling the naming rights to 'WHL-Max'...
"It would also give a new brand a key place in the skyline of north London."
Along with what?.. Tesco? The North Circular? Ikea Edmonton? I love the man's optimism.
LDNYid apologies though, I realise you understand it isn't an expansion! And yes we are essentially not being nomads like the Woolwich.
Reply to MysteriousStranger:
Are you referring to XBox Pitch at Qwest Field?
Why Mr. Gates and Mr. Allen money whipped the team into submission.

Hopefully that works. Perhaps you should study the pics and remember it is a lot bigger than WHL.
There is an obvious solution to the stadium name problem.
A condition of the naming rights is that the winning tender changes THEIR name to White Hart Lane .

this is great... thought i might as well have a look back and WOW! some controversy!
-Spuds think they have signed Englands brightest prospect, Ashley Young even though he supports the Arse! and why would he go to a team that doesnt even have European football? and who have wasted their chances to break the top 4 over the last 4 years when there was no compeition??? Spuds arent going to do shit all now!
-Some chap thinks we ruined Harewood, Knight, Double Djemba and Baros...
-Harewood didnt even start for West Ham, had one good first season in the Premiership and turned out to be muck... but trust MON to sign him, pinching someone elses pennies.
-Was Knight ever really that good, id say hes actually gotten better...
-Djemba Djemba was shit as soon as he signed for Man U, only looked good for Cameroon and was an un-proffesional bastard!
-Baros wasnt even starting for Pool and he was going down hill!
God Spurs fans, keep dreaming! in 3 years Villa have made more progress than you have in your history.. get over it.
Levy is going to get sick of it and stop spending soon! while Villa keep making steady progress with good, honest signings... rather than going all out to buy world beaters who you expect to gel into a team prima donnas!
Villa for Life!
If Villa want Bentley that is wonderful. If they want Bentley and Jenas that is even more wonderful and I don't think we should charge them a transfer fee. Giving them away for nothing is good business. If we get Ashley Young in return that is really good business.

The Bond Villain Bowl.
Lumps of cash in and no questions as to it's origin is what I say!
Aaron Lennon would be less of a force with out the Thudd. Big Tom makes better use of Azza than most of our other midfielders, they have an instinctive, ney, telepathic understanding. No doubt he could form such an understanding with a similar player such as Young.
To every great winger there will probably be a great supplier.
A player like Tom thrives with wingers like Lennon & Young. They should be in the same team, not passing each other like ships in the night.
From a Spurs point of view, with regards the swap. Wouldn't we be putting down a diamond, to pick up a rock.....or maybe a sapphire?
Reply to Astallaslions:
I'd have to humbly agree with all you've said.
Don't want to engage on all this "who is the bigger club BS" far far far too dull to contemplate.
Shame for Villa about Laursen, good player who made the difference for them, to lose him together with Barry will be a blow, guess you'd hope Sidwell would step up.
To get to the real matter of spurs, I honestly couldn't give a flying fig about who actually does leave us in the end, we have 3 absolute must keeps in my eyes of Modric Lennon and Palacios. As long as we end up with a balanced squad come the end of the transfer window that has the ability to play the formations that the manager wants them to play in, then that's a massive step forward from where we've been over the past many seasons.
Of course there are plenty of good players on our books, just don't see them gelling in to any of the formations that HR wishes to play otherwise we would have seen more experimentation towards the end of last season.
Modders further forward with Wilson & Tom (or Jermaine) in the middle; Ashley & Aaron to the wings.
Plenty of options to interchange, depending on whether or not one or two strikers are used.
Would the word Arena be suitable as an alternative to Stadium? For example the Etihad Arena, or the Emaar Arena work better surely?
In addition it evokes a sense of our new found gladiatorial prowess (assuming the xfer window goes to plan) rather than the soft centred displays. We might as well have named WHL after a box of chocolates since Davids left.
Bentley to Villa is a goer then given the right exchange. Bentley, holidaying in Spain’s swish resort of Puerto Banus where he owns a trendy bar called Buddha Beach, confirmed: “I’m in talks with Villa at the moment.
“I really don’t want to say much more. But we’ll see what happens.
“I’m hopeful of sorting it out as soon as possible.”
Reply to Trembly:
Looks likes that's that then for Bentley. What a bizarre transfer he's been.
Doesn't seem 5 minutes ago that the infamous 'any news on Bentley'(signing) posts were around.
Oh well, thanks for the memory.
As for Young, I really don't see this happening. Unless Young himself has his heart set on joining us for some reason. I see Bentley and Jenas going there in exchange for a big bag of cash.
i'm a bentley fan - he's going to get back into his good form. i think he's never been forgiven for not guarding the post when let one go through his legs and you'd think he'd be trying to get away from jenas!!

What are the odds on Bentley leading the assists charts at Villa next season, it`s shocking what a good coach can achieve
Damn a couple of 'FACTS' annoyed me..
1. We've finished 6th for the last TWO seasons.
2. We've finished higher than you guys have over most of the PL's history.
Also you would not have finished top4 under HR if he was in charge the whole season and you did not get more points than us since he took over. Those are taken from his TOTAL games inc the Cups. In the PL it's even and we both get beat by Everton anyway.
So lets not be silly, we're all big clubs, and it's a flip of a coin who out of Everton, Villa, Spurs, City do well next season.
And regardless if any of the Top4 come all of our players would be off.
With regards to Barry we won't miss him that much, honestly - he didn't have much of an impact on game and is a poor poor captain. We miss Laursen massively though and it him we need to replace.
With regards to Young I'd be amazed if MON lets him go unless he's thrown a hissy fit, Top4 & ÂŁ30-40m yes - you guys no.
Reply to madladdy:
And replacing Laursen is the toughest thing to do. We managed to get Woody in (still not sure why the Big 4 didn't go for him) as well as already having Ledley (and he's only still there as he's only got one knee). Daws seems to have returned to the form that got him an England call up not long ago (although he's not top draw). You boys now have Cuellar, Knight & Davies - (why did you let Cahill go?) I wouldn't want any of them at Spurs and they certainly don't come any where near King & Woody.
We may not sign Young (why would you sell to us) but if you don't get CL next year, he is still playing well he'll be on his way. He's the only one of your team I'd take (Friedal's a decent keeper but contary to the press, Gomes is immense). Heskey & Carew are useful target men who don't score many and Agbonlahor has been terrible since xmas and looks way, way out of his depth when he plays for England.
On the flip side you are after players who can't get a game for us. Our worry is getting a bit of consistancy and hoping the big boys don't come knocking for any of our good players again (& that Ledley's knee holds up for another year)
REO COKER! That is a name that I have been told by a good source who should be with us shortly.
.....If I have any good news I shal let you know of course!
Ginge1: Yup replacing Laursen is the key for us. At the Cahill wasn't ready for our 1st team and was behind Laursen & Melberg too. He demanded 1st team football and so something had to give. MON is on record saying he didn't want to sell him though.
Cuellar & Davis are both good players but neither is a leader. Also Davis is pretty young and it was Cuellars first season in what was a mix and match season for the back 4 so an older experienced CB and a bit of time together and it'll be fine.
Yup your right if he keeps it up Young will be off in a few seasons to a top4 side but then you can say that about Lennon, Modric ie any of the 'other' leagues players too! We're all in the same boat.
Also are you crazy? Carew scored 15 goals in 32 games last season. Nearly 1 in 2 since he joined is - he's massively under rated - it's just a pain he gets niggly injuries all the time.
And Gabby was burnt out, he's just a kid too and will be fine.
Anyway good luck with the season we all know deep down its a flip of a coin who does well out of our little mini league etc..

I’m that intelligent Villa supporter you were talking about. I know this because my intelligence is an existential reality – I think, therefore I’m a Villan.
My best mate at school (a thousand years ago) in Brum was a fourby and he was a spud of course so I have a soft spot for them. Also, and most importantly, yids have a great sense of humour and, unlike gooners, don’t take themselves too seriously. Harry Hotspurs blog is always entertaining. It was also entertaining to visit the gooner blogs when Villa were doing so well and watch them torture themselves with the their angst over Arséne Wenger’s supposed failings. Happy days.
On to business then, or I shall be accused of boot-licking. Certain decisions in the important things in life, like football, stand for all time as monuments to human folly. An example would be the appointment of the ratfink Dennis Wise as director at Newcastle; another would be the sacking of Murinho by the megalomaniac owner of Chelsea – a colossal blunder - and sadly, yet another would be the dismissal of Martin Jol by an impatient Board who should have known better.
Irony is another fascinating human condition. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Spuds were to achieve greatness just at the moment all this arab oil money tries to buy it for Islam. Am I allowed to say that? If it’s out of order, Arry, go ahead and delete this para. Wouldn’t want to start a jihad would we?
Well, good luck then – hope you do well next season. It would be nice to see that sad, world-weary boat of Arry’s break into a smile on the back of finishing above Arsenal. Try not to finish above us though; goodwill only goes so far.

Defoe, Mr A-nother
Looks tidy to me ....
I honestly dont think there is much between us and villa. Every fan has the right to think their own team is better bigger and more shiny than the other. My stumbling block is that villa fans see us in the same mini league as themselves, everton and citeh......and they have right to as this is a fact now. The reason I find this hard to swallow is because my own expectations outweigh the reality of what we can achieve and it hurts to have villa etc on a par. We have under achieved and I am of course not saying anything we dont already know. What I do strongly believe is once we make these 2 or 3 quality additions to our squad and it doesn't matter who goes the other way out of JJ, Thud and Bentley, on paper we will definately have the better list of individuals and better cover in most if not all areas of the pitch. Its all about the balance and blend and when we get that right we WILL be a force and have more potential out of all the 2nd tier to make a challenge. This is Harrys last chance to make a serious mark and I for one, as you all do hopes and dreams he pulls it off. Villa, Everton, Citeh and Fulham........I wish you all a good season and I just pray that the gooner scum will fall.....hard beneath all of us. C O Y S

Don't know if that is true, but I would avoid him if it is.
What am I saying? What are the chances he'd get booed at the Lane?
Reply to Rossy:
Don't you think Villa fans have high expectations too? Most Villa fans have seen us win the league, league cup(s) AND the CL! And yes - we've had losing FA cup finals too!
Outside the top4 you do realise we're the most successful club points/finish wise etc right? As in the 5TH best club. Your 7th behind Newcastle btw.
Or are you basing this on just the 05/06 & 06/07 seasons?
To put it into context we've finished in the top6 10 times.. twice in the top4 - ie more than anyone else, and if anyone has a right to be p***d off at been lumped with you lot its us!
BUT as you say, most of us are more sensible and realise we're all about the same level and compared to the big4 NONE OF US have done fxx all for years!

Good luck for the season but you'd be wise to look at the reality of what you've acheived (ie very little) and not belittle other clubs 'around' you m8y boy.
Surely to god you could get yourself some hand lotion?
Once you start saying 'often' your just been kinky ffs.

Hey spud fucks
I can tell you one thing Villa have never been......in an amateur division! it seems your amateur status has stuck with your shit fans all these years!!
and Rossy i'm glad you acknowledged the spuds aren't on a par with Villa. Our 7 titles, 7 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, European Cup (proper one) and European Super Cup puts us in a different stratosphere to you mugs.
another thing, Villa have accumulated more points in the prem outside the sky four so stick your two 5th place finishes when the sun don't shine! do Villa bang on about finishing 2nd in '93 or 4th in '96? shut it you inbred twats.

Bearing in mind the Real Madrid "fans" have a tendency to be notably racist (a comment that could apply to Spanish people in general), I would suggest any black man playing for them might get a little pissed off if the "fans" were getting on his back. It isn't very likely that they would simply say "You're shit". I would hazard a guess there would be a racial insult attached to it.
Reply to madladdy:
You have never won the CL. Come to think of it, have you ever participated in it? So think about what you type. You won the European Cup, before it was "revolutionised". As did those modern day giants, Aberdeen and Nottingham Forest

"Spud fucks" we may be. But we don't post our email addresses on forums as we talk shite. Your inbox will be full of undesirable mail shortly I expect. At least the majority of us have some common sense.
Dumb Brummie fuck.

Aberdeen never won the European cup, ask Lord Of The Wing he`ll tell you who won it first
Reply to madladdy:
I remember you lot being in the 2nd division in my life time (in fact i'd finished school!), I was still in nappies last time Spurs were out of the top flight. I think that's why most people under retirement age see Villa as a sort of Yo-yo club, a bit like the other clubs from the Midlands Wolves, West Brom, Birmingham
Reply to MysteriousStranger:
If that's the case, I stand corrected. The story I read just said the crowd was on on him.
Reply to b_neilan@hotmail.com:
see post about yo-yo club above
Reply to Spam Head:
Forgive my memory. Must have been thinking about when they matched Villa and won the European Super Cup
Reply to MysteriousStranger:
so that's three European trophies v one European trophy.

Makes him sound like he can't take the pressure, but if the abuse was racial, that's a whole other thing.
Reply to SeattleSpursGuy:
He's only a young lad and he moved to the most successfull european club ever. He was the best or one of the best players at the last U21 tournament. I think he'd be a good buy, we wouldn't have to play him every week as Modric played well on the left, plus we've got Bale as well (who I still think will come good!)
Reply to Ginge1:
He's obviously at least in his fifties, if he can remember any of their FA Cup wins (last time - 1957).
)
One league title since 1910 (in 1980-81).
One proper European trophy - European Cup. (not so sure we count the Super Cup or their two Intertoto Cups
Five league cups.
Did I mention they won the Third Division in 1971-72?
-------------------------------------------------
Spurs Trophy haul since 1957 (his team's last FA Cup win)
Six FA Cups.
Four League Cups.
Two League Titles.
Two UEFA Cups.
One European Cup Winners Cup.

Your team started the first Football League with 11 other clubs, and you won it five times in the late 1800s - when Spurs were still a non-league team.
Well done. You must be very old if you remember that.
Reply to Ginge1:
LOL - yoyo club? So the 5th best club in the last 100+ years.. however you want to add it up, league titles, cup wins, European wins, PL finishes, points tallys - league founders etc etc...
and we're a yoyo club on par with Wolves & Bham who've only been in the PL half a dozen time in their history? Honestly you couldn't make it up!
But honestly I only ever see Spurs as a mid table club - because on the whole in the last 20 years what you've been.
Also I'm well aware we won the European Cup, I just said CL as that's what it's been re-branded and half of Spurs fans seem to think you've won the 'European Cup'. Also how can you mock winning it, or Forrest when they were league winners etc - ie it was the real league Champions etc!
You guys live in your own little bubble (Which seems to consist of a double in the 60's, two seasons, three years ago and the fact from a city of 8million people you can fill a stadium with 36,000 people) but well done! honestly!
I wouldn't mind but it's not like I've been mocking you guys - all I've said is have a bit of respect for the other clubs around you ffs!

The thing about Spain (and having lived there for a few years I do think I can comment to a degree) is that they are still 30 years behind us when it comes to racial tolerance.
I accept the article makes no mention of racism. However I cannot imagine there would be no racial insults from some of their "fans" given the situation.

Is he wearing his Villa Intertoto Cup Winners 2008 commemorative jersey?
Reply to Ginge1:
I've seen the footage and he looks a good player. I just get concerned when I hear about possible mental fragility. Don't we enough players who fall short in the mental aspects of the game?
Reply to MysteriousStranger:
Fair enough. Thanks

Oooh oooh I love cherry picking history to prove a misguided point.. it's a great game..
Notice you mock our 1957 cup win but felt that 10 trophy's of your own from that era were something to shout about? Also you included a league title from 1950 which obviously must have been an oversight yeah? ho-hum..
Like I said in the last 20 years we've both done fxx all to shout about:
Spurs PL finish: 8th (weighted average)
Spurs FA Cups: 1
League cups: 2
Villa PL finish: 6th (weighted average)
Spurs FA Cups: 0
League cups: 2
Now stop been silly and concentrate on supporting your own team.

New blog overdue.............. just got to whack a mob rival and very senior policeman in a restaurant. Be back soon.
History is what it is, History. Its all about the here and now. Last season no longer counts.
Next season is what we should be shouting about, and I'll put my life on it that next season Spurs finish higher than Villa - my life!
But i get to choose how I die should the need arise
Reply to RJ1882:
I'd be careful - I bet you've said that the last two seasons too!
Hey but then again I'd bet YOUR life too.. ;p
Yip, I did. Based on us underachieving last season and Villa overachieving, i dont think it will take much of a swing for Spurs to finish higher. We have a better start and we'll have you, Villa have an average start and we'll have you . . .
Anyone heard the rumour its Spurs v Westham at the lane opening fixture?
Reply to madladdy:
Wise words - so why don't you fuck off back to your own blog.
PS: statistically speaking, a sample of less than thirty is meaningless
Reply to Ginge1:
I remember when Villa were in the old 3rd Div. A depth to which spurs have never sunk
Reply to madladdy:
Actually, I included a League victory from 1951. In 1950 we were trying to win it
My mistake. I was too busy giving you credit for your recent Intertoto success. Too many oversights today.
Anyway, hasn't Damian got anything to write about? Enjoy Bentley. I'm sure he'll find some clubs to party at in the Birmingham area.
Reply to madladdy:
please see M/S post above yours. You are like Newcastle. You claim to be big, loads of fans etc but in fact nearly all your success was before WWII - noone who's that old remembers that.
As for filling a 36k stadium, we have a 22k waiting list for start. Also you could buy three Villa tickets for the price of one at Spurs, so we make more money off less fans.
Finally as I mentioned previusly I lived on Aston Lane - went to see Villa against Deportivo at Villa Park, walked up, bought a ticket. Did the same on a stag do last year at the Toon. Each time there was about ten of us, each time we got tickets, sat together on the day of the game. You would not manage that at the Lane.
Anyone seen the Football Leagues '100 Greats' Villa have three players I've heard of, Banchflower (Spurs legend, played his best for Spurs) Mcgrath (Utd Legend, played his best their) and Scmichael (Utd legend) none who played at their best at your club.
Do you have any of your own legends?
Reply to Ginge1:
The thing that has been holding us back is our inability to pay the wages of the SKY4. As a villain rightly pointed out, we have a 36k stadium. I think Villa Pk is approaching 50k.
This begs the question, we know what has been holding us back, but what is your excuse?
Reply to spurredonindublin:
villa park holds 42k, if you dont like other fans comming here on your forum then tell harry to stop posting it on the villa page then you would be able to eat your jellied eels to your self
STILL arguing with brummies.
