What Has The Supporter's Trust Got to Hide?

Tuesday, 14 October 08, 01:08 AM · Comments (113)

The scene: Spurs Odious.

Member 'COYS 245' bless, dares ask....

"I read in the Sunday press that Daniel Levy has agreed to a face to face meeting with members of THFC Supporters Trust this week, Wednesday.

If it is true, are any members of this site going to be present at this meeting or privvy to what is said in the meeting? Could you please let everyone on this site know what happenned, what was said.

Although in true Levy fashion I imagine everything he will say will be spin I would be very interested to hear what the little man has to say... Any news on this event will be greatly appreciated..."

Five hours later, the Private Member's Board Supremo himself condescendes to pass comment.
"It is a scheduled Trust meeting. Any further comment and direct feedback must really be reserved for Trust members via their message board/mailing list ."
Oh, and what a shocker. And guess what? The Trust's message board is operated by....step forward one Paul Smith. What is it with this guy and all the need for secrets?
Unrepentant, unhinged lunatic COYS 245 asks,
"So Spursod does that mean we dont get to hear what went on afetrwards???"
No further crumbs are deemed necessary to be brushed toward this poor mug of a Tottenham fan...despite a further ask of,
"I would have imagined that the Supporters Trust is set up so as to  represent us small folk... I would love to know hat is discussed... All seems to be very hush, hush though... "
You poor misguided fool.
This is a closed shop being operated by people who have clearly failed elsewhere in life. How wrong and archaic is this? Please, somebody rid me of these clowns.
When the **** is someone who cares about this club going to step in and make a real difference and remove these third rate, shabby no marks who do nothing but patronise us like school children?
We're all going to hell in a handcart and these prats are steering.
The last guy in charge of the Supporter's Trust fled the post amid allegation and accusation.
It's time to sack the lot and let's get something set up that is transparent and true.
If you've nothing to hide - then cut the parlour games and tell us what's going on.

Little boys club. Self important people looking to pat each other on the back rather than serve the purpose of representing Spurs supporters

HH

I'm with you on this one. The last time we had the unfortunate experience of Paul Smith and the ODIOUS brigade, their attitude was appalling. They did as you said, speak down to all of us as we were not worthy of supporting Spurs. Quite frankly some of the bull poop they were spouting was worse than some of Ridsdales nonsense.

I think that something urgently needs to be done so that EVERY fan has the ability to have a say about Tottenham Hotspur FC. The very fact that people like Paul Smith are treating it like some Famous Five club make it inaccessable and unrepresentative as it is the same people coming up with the same tired view on every occassion.

HH, any ideas on how we can take back the supporters trust from these self-important, jumped up imbeciles?

I started to read and started laughing as I was waiting for number 1 fan 'Paul Smith' to be involved somewhere. I'm still laughing now, if I didn't I'd cry!

Totally agree with your comments, why not open it up to all Spurs fans? Hopefully a HH reader will be a trust member or such like and can relay what went down. Even better get them to take a bag in with a secret camera a la Donal McIntrye (or whatever his name is - like Roger Cook!) and then sent it to you to post on here.

I feel like i'm part of the French resistance, "I will zay zis only once!" ;)

Something needs to be done about the supporteers trust. How can they call themselves the supporters trust when they only represent the same idiotic self important people that want to keep it like a boys brigade club (Odds on they have a secret handshake). HH, is it worth putting it out there to see if any of your illustrious readers are members of the supporters trust?? I think more fans need to have a say.

Trying to sort my head out!

My Tuesday went like this,

1. Phone call from boss to tell me I've been made redundant (not unexpected, big pay off but banking is hardly a buoyant sector to get another job in at mo)
2. Boss tells me my last day is in 6 days and as such they want their car back
3. Mrs tells me she can't settle up norf (after 5 years) and is off with the little un back to London as soon as she gets a job.
4. Spurs are still bottom of the league

As such i've been out on a few benders with my mates while I decide if i'm going to emigrate to the Big Smoke.

I should like to contest the Michael Dawson hatred award...I regularly crap on about how he can only play with Led screaming orders in his ears and that on no account should he ever play for Spurs again, including the reserves, he'll bring any defense quivering to it's knees in no time.
"And the award goes to..."
Jamie Spurs...I don't hate him as a man! He just hasn't the skills or probably more importantly the intelligence to learn...Balls.

Not all bad, i'll get two years salary as a pay off. The thing that guts me is I'm going to have to get rid of the 5 bed house we bought 12 months ago (& probably lose money on it) then buy a 3 bed terrace or a flat in London. Also the fact the Mrs is off regardless makes me wonder if I should go with her. On the bright side I'd be nearer Lane so would be able to get to more games!

Not really the forum to discuss this but makes me feel better getting it off my chest!

I can offer Ginge some financial advice...stick any payoff money under your mattress.
Sorry shouldn't make light of a nightmare scenario...
In two weeks time we could have 8 points on the board.....and still be rock bottom.
When you're at the bottom the only way is up? Do cliches help?!

Talking of Gaels(Cliche), when I was 18 my dad actually said to me "There are plenty more fish in the sea" just after I'd been binned by a bird. Problem was I prefered women...although she did have this odour?

An old school friend who is a member of THFC Supporters Trust is concerned about your concerns and has asked me to pass on this message:

"The Trust is for the benefit of all true supporters of our great club but it is not practical for the members of the Trust to impart certain information to other supporters and to impart uncertain information might be considered foolhardy. Furthermore, as the word "Trust" implies there must be faith that we will work in the best interests of everyone in complete secrecy so as not to burden the average supporter with matters far beyond the understanding of a simple working man or banker.

I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding"

My attention has been drawn to this item. I fail to understand the level of abuse that I personally seem to attract, just because I run another website and one of many message boards that require people to register to prevent spam and abuse.

As for the Spurs Trust, I am one of a number of elected board members. The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' trust was established in 2001 and has since then been a recognised group that has a regular dialogue with the club at the highest level. Our relationship with the club has at times been fractious.

We have several thousand members, who pay a subscription, and who are kept informed of our activities.

We are a democratic body, and have an AGM soon. Our members were entitled to put themselves up for election, and opportunities arise every year.

As a matter of interest, I shall be standing down this year.

The meeting with the club is one of an agreed number of meetings, although it has been delayed.

Membership to the Trust has had to be closed recently, due to administrative problems, but these should be resolved soon.

Once membership is available, there is bound to be a publicity drive and any one of you would be entitled to join, and ultimately seek election to the board.

I do NOT claim to be the number one THFC fan by any means. There are many, many far more dedicated and committed people than me, who have been following our beloved club around thw world for many years. There are also other members of the THST Board, who work far harder than me to represent the fans' views to the club hierarchy

ODM

A few points on that one:
'true supporters' - Sounds like the same old guff that Paul Smith and his Odious bunch were spouting. Talking down to the rest of us like they are part of the furniture at the club. Why can't the purpose of the supporters trust aim to communicate common questions and fears to the board.

'the word "Trust" implies there must be faith that we will work in the best interests of everyone' - How can we trust a group of people that talk down to everyone on a very frequent basis? Trust is a 2 way street and I don't feel that Paul Smith and his buddies have earnt that from any of us.

Well hows the form every1?

great sleep last night, who need sleeping tablets when you can read peterrisdale comments zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ;)

imo a trust/group of people representing the views of over 100,000 fans world wide, simply doesnt work. how can a group of 100/200 people do this, its impossible? every1 has different views on even the simplist issue.

every1 just wants the best for tottenham, that is what all tru fans want, some have different ways about it.

IMO all that is needed is one website with 1 administrator, one person operating it. all that happens is that any fan can ask 3 questions at the end of the month all these questions go to Levy and answers are published on the website. (You may say time consuming with all the questions - but most questions will be the same)

all the answers will be published - so everyone can see :)

i have purchased the website

Thank you Paul - for once you seem to make a reasonable comment without sounding like an arse.

In repsonse I would say that the results of the upcoming dialogue should be made public on certain Spurs fan sites. While I appreciate we perhaps don't want the world and his dog knowing the in's and out's of our club, there are many supporters who would be keen to know the clubs views on certain issues.
As such I would say a site as well supported as HH (along with a few selected others, S.O. etc) where this information is released. Ultimately if Robert Peston can have intimate knowledge of a private / behind closed door meeting between No. 10 and the banks 5 minutes after it finishes the results of the Spurs Trust meeting will ultimately find there way onto some public forum anyway.

ps Thanks for the messages of supports fellow Spurs. ;)

How to access information from the THFC Supporters Trust? Simple really. Now, before I begin the lesson, will those of you who are playing in the match this afternoon move your clothes down onto the lower peg immediately after lunch, before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger brother who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case, collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.

Now, what if your younger brother's going out with Dibble this weekend, and you are not having my hair cut today, do you have to move your clothes down?

OH, I do wish you'd listen! It's perfectly simple. If you're not getting your hair cut, you don't have to move your brother's clothes down to the lower peg. You simply collect his note before lunch, after you've done your scripture prep, when you've written your letter home, before rest, move your own clothes onto the lower peg, greet the visitors, and report to Mr. Viney that you've had your chit signed.

"We have several thousand members, who pay a subscription, and who are kept informed of our activities.

Democratic? So are the f***ing Masons.

You refused to answer or promise to answer even the smallest question from a member of your own board.

Your attitude is horribly condescending.

I didn't call you Tottenham's number one fan. But I find it unsuprising you'd make such a reference.

"There are many, many far more dedicated and committed people than me, who have been following our beloved club around thw (sic) world for many years."

My attitude? We're all equal.

I respect the fact that a fan might devote huges amounts of time and money to their hobby - but they are no better than someone listening to a game on a three quid radio somewhere.

The Trust (represented on the street by people like you) is way overdue a shake up.

The closed doors need to be opened.

Not a good time. And almost certainly the wrong venue to discuss it.

My only serious comment would be that the old girl's 'fait a compli' may well just be a reflection that the move up there never really worked for her in the first place. Rather than some genuine revelation she wants shot of you.

This is the best juncture she'll ever get to say, 'I've had enough!' and really look like she means it.

I'd come up with a plan that incorporates the three of you and at least try to look dynamic.

Move south and sod the money. You've got a few sheckels in your bin and youth on your side.

Lastly, remember that women who experience the miracle of childbirth are approximately twice as f***ing mental as the ones who haven't. ;)

Fuck me. Sorry to hear that mate! Thats a truly bad few days in anyones book. I'm sure the HH family will rally round you on this occassion.

I'd like to say that at least you have Spurs to cheer you up. Unfortunately I can't!

Thats a rather large accumilation of bad...

Not all bad, i'll get two years salary as a pay off. The thing that guts me is I'm going to have to get rid of the 5 bed house we bought 12 months ago (& probably lose money on it) then buy a 3 bed terrace or a flat in London. Also the fact the Mrs is off regardless makes me wonder if I should go...

I agree with Harold that this is neither the time nor the place, but if you've managed to secure two years salary as part of a division or department wide redundancy process with no tribunal implications in the current climate, whilst on gardening leave, then you have done mind bogglingly well.

Ginge,
The smoke would welcome a man of your calibre with open arms. Given the wife's decision, the redundancy could be a blessing in disguise, pay for the relocation and breathing space for a job. We all wish you all the best fella, keep your chin up. Hardship and disappointment are our bread n butter after all.

HH's idea (33) is a good 'un! I'd take the money and head south. Yeah its expensive and yes the people aren't as friendly but it is after all home for the both of you. Besides the arse as fallen out of the housing market down south and you'll probably find yourself a good place down there for the right price!

Glad to see the Hotspur famil has rallied around our foul mouthed ginger friend!

Paul Smith is still an ARSE. Ridsdale has been pushed down to number 2 on the "Keyboard Crusader Hitlist"

Registrations are ÂŁ10 when they are open and whilst those who wish to be active ought to contribute.

But why shouldn't the outcome of their actibities be public knowledge?

Why the secret message boards?

Equally. The reasons are thus:

Smith - Condasending, Self-important idiot

Ridsdale - Walter Mitty type character afraid of the real world. Wishes he could live in Victorian Britain

Dawson - Useless CB, inspires NO confidence and a liability to Tottenham Hotspur FC

Good afternoon all.

I haven't been around for a while, totally confused and gutted about whats happened to our fantastic club. To go from what we were building last year to what we are now is truely awful. I mean, if Berbarat and pointy fingers were still in the team, then yes, it could be classed as a bad patch, which is bound to turn around, but this is deeper and more desperate.

I am hoping for a win on Sunday against Stoke and what more a further win the following week against Bolton indoors, but sadly, I think we may only get draws at best.

Sorry for the misery.

Good luck to you Ginge, what ever happens, anyway there is nothing wrong with living down south.

I suspect, young master Harrence of the THFC blog par excellence, that the Supporters Trust has little to hide other than the fact they have no real lobbying power with the board/powers that be, and do little other than arrange pleasant after dinner speeches with ex players etc. I think that explains their Secret Squirrel way of keeping private boards and such. Also, it almost gives the illusion of value to those who have paid the membership charge.

I don't think we're missing much here other than Levy throwing them a bone as a token gesture.

I would also suggest that to be a more effective Supporters Trust, they should have an open (and free) membership policy to truly be representative of the masses, rather than the few. Imagine if every season ticket holder was a member - the Trust might find itself with some teeth then as well as a louder voice truly representing fans.

On a more important subject, I was gutted to read about what's been happening, and I hope things get sorted for you ASAP our Ginge - you're one of the good'uns.

Well, you're *okay*...

Well, by “okay”, I mean tolerable... (and so on and so on) :P

Lets be honest, back when those players played, the manager really didn't have that much in the way of signinficant funding and we were a million miles away from the UEFA cup.

Lets put this into perspective =

Boateng ÂŁ4.5m (13games 0goals) / Leonhardsen ÂŁ3m (54 games 7goals) - I'd have Leonhardsen in there over KPB any day.

It will be a good place to launch the campaign for new hemp away kit. The new fabric choice that not only be great for the environment, but you can also smoke one of the socks on the bus on the way back after a defeat.

Ridsdale would never allow that!

Come on, the man is against nearly all forms of self expression. We would return to thick cotton shirts and outrageously long shorts and the players would play charades at half time. As is the ridsdale way!

there would be no half time refreshments for fear of people polluting, no match day programmes as too much paper involved, no singing whatsoever, in case it causes a reaction from opposing fans, no one can have an opinion about anything that goes on in a match unless they consult Risdale and see if it matches his ;)

'true supporters' - Sounds like the same old guff that Paul Smith and his Odious bunch were spouting. Talking down to the rest of us like they are part of the furniture at the club. Why can't the purpose of the supporters trust aim to communicate...

August 28th... this was announced ''Three Signings Done... Glory Be.''
How good would we be and where would we be if only this was true? Would Veloso have been our missing link in midfield? Would Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko have reproduced their international form for us? Surely would have blown away a lacklustre Wigan, Hull, Sunderland..... fuck. If only :(
I'm down again, simply because its nearing the weekend and Spurs play again.

On a brighter note, THudd has scored, O'Hara has an assist and Fraizer just came on..... I'm Irish, but i'll cheer these boys on if only to experience that winning feeling again :)

Don't really cheer the wee fucker on. It would be strange if we were playing a big game, say when we play the Italians, and he pops up with a 90th minute winner..... what to do ? :(

Yeah, it's gonna be hard cheering the wee fucker on, but still, he did give his all for us, for a while at least.
