Who Is This Pini Zahavi Chap, Then?

Sunday, 28 September 08, 02:57 AM · Comments (264)

Bonnet de Douche! Pini Colada, mon cher?

The slow but steady influx of foriegn investors in English Premiership Clubs only to gathers momentum. Unless you happen to be a rejected, rotund retailer of course. Speculation that Tottenham would 'eventually' be sold to fabulously wealthy suitor has been doing the rounds for some time.

The Guardian piece HERE is interesting. And in the words of The Wonder Pet's Ming Ming, I would suggest 'this is serious.'

Pini Zahavi is not your usual football agent and to confuse him as such would be a mistake.

His client list is impressive enough but it is the manner in which he conducts his business that separates him from what is generally acknowledged a pretty down at heel herd.

It was Zahavi was the man who organised Ferdinand to United. He put Defoe in Portsmouth. He brought Dos Santos to The Lane. But those are just a few notable player deals.

He was the man responsible for brokering the aqusitions of Chelsea FC by Abramovich and Portsmouth FC by Gaydamak.

His cultivation of relationships with some of the most improtant football people on the planet are well documented, but it is his constant presence as a vanguard of football business that puts him in a bracket of his own making.

So who is Pini Zahavi? At times a controversal character. He was a broker for Media Sports Investment, the outfit behind the whole Tevez and Mascherano affair. He was also named in the Stephen's enquiry. But Zahavi would undoutedly argue when you're blazing a trail things happen to you and situations arise. If you want anonmity and peace don't become a king maker.

My conclusion is that if this guy is genuinely involved in any takeover discussions at Tottenham then this is real, this is happening and the as yet unnamed Asian billionaire would be an interesting prospect. I would say sound, but who can predict the future?

Besides, anyone who described Ken Bates as 'a revolting character' can't be all bad.

This is good news, I think. We're in real danger of being left behind unless we get some serious outside investment. Some might bemoan a lack of stability that this might bring but we've not exactly been steady in the past few seasons. Just look at the number of players we buy and sell each season compared to, say, Villa. And as for all you Levy lovers out there pointing out how well the club is doing financially my mum could turn a profit at Spurs if she stuck the season tickets up by 10% and sold our best players without stumping up for adequate replacements.

Can Lionel Messi play on the left?

without doubt all these foreign multi billionaire owners of our premiership clubs are going to destroy the premiership. there's already talk of Man city willing to pay the likes of Gerrard and Essien ÂŁ500,000 per week. how long before we see the first ÂŁ1m a week player. I for one would find it hard to keep my season ticket whilst watching my team struggle at the wrong end off the table whilst drawing these obscene wages at the end of the week

I can't halp but feel that for all Levy's stealth we wouldn't be harmed by an operation that didn't fanny about with money.

The wheels fell off this window allegedly due to 'agent activity'. This, in English, translates as 'the money being short' and probably by buttons.

You talk sense, but no team containing either of those players is very likely to find itself in a relegation scrap.

More likely to find some clowns who sold their top players the clubs they play for in such a mess.

Agree with Yidango. This will tear the league apart. I'm sure we would all love to have that kind of money, but it will reach a point where it really doesn't make a difference. If there were 20 clubs in the PL with billionaire owners there would still be only 4 CL spots available and 3 clubs would still be relegated.

the way things are going ALL premiership clubs will be owned by mega rich owners and out of those you will have top players playing for teams at the wrong end of the table... Some club has to be bottom!

hmmmmmmmmm, not a happy chappy to hear this news.i can understand that there are supporters out there that want instant success, get in a billionaire and buy every top player going, fire money for wages around left, right and centre to compete, this all sounds great right now but in my opinion its a bad train to jump on.there is only one place this trend of selling our clubs to rich playboys is taking the premiership, and thats ruin.so we sell to a billionaire, great, next its newcastle, then someone else in a few months, until all clubs are owned by billionaires spending vast amounts of money on tranfers and wages, which will end up going to foreign clubs as we wont want to sell to each other,so the only place all this money will be going is out of the premiership and into the pockets of foreign clubs and players strenghtening other leagues.then say in a few years when all clubs have been sold and were all after buying as many top players as we can, where then.only four clubs could possibly make a profit, champs league places, what of the rest?do you honestly believe that the billionaires outside the top 4 who see massive losses of money year in year out are going to continue that trend,no way.they will get out as quick as poss leaving clubs in financial ruin due to wages and in turn spell the end of the prem.i hope i'm wrong but i can only one outcome and its not good.

The new owners of Man City are an investment company and will want to recoup and make a profit on any money they pump into the club.

Look I think that this would be a good thing for the club short term. We will get our billionaire playboy owner and more EPL clubs will go the same way. When it get to a point of no return and clubs start getting left in the lurch the EPL will collapse. And I think that all this will be a good thing for Football. All this mone leaving the game will see wages come down and clubs being run on sound footballing and economic principals again. All the big money men in the FA will hopefully run for their lives and all we would be left with is people with a passion for the game who just want to be involved and see the game improve. I see this as the beginnings of a football revolution and hopefully our national game will rise out of the ashes like a pheonix instead of just dying. I know its a bit dramatic and some will say Im a bit crazy but if this does happen then I believe we will get the kind of football that we saw 20 years ago full of passion and determination to succeed, playing for the shirt and players earning similar money to the people paying to watch them play. Im too young to have seen any of the famous players like Hoddle or Ardilles or Blanchflower or Jennings but from what my Dad tells me about them it was a glorious time of Football when footballers were real men and none of this diving crap. Now if these billionaire owner can get a move on and destroy the EPL so we can go back to a time when football was a way of life and not just a business then that would be great.

Harry - brilliant work in quoting Ming Ming. Personally, I'm deeply suspicious of the foreign takeovers. I strongly doubt whether any of them (apart - so far - from Randy Lerner at Villa) are in the LONG-TERM interests of the clubs concerned. But a takeover of some description is inevitable, especially with the likes of Citeh getting such a huge boost. Remember everyone 'We're not that big, and we're not that strong, but if we work together, we'll get the job done!'

Spot on calebray!

But lets be honest Joe Lewis is a billionaire and having one in control of the club doesn't necessisarily mean that we will end up with one like the dodgy Ruski down the road. In fact top football clubs all have very wealthy backing but not all choose to pump endless sums of bank notes into the game in the hope of immediate glory! Glory, an interesting word. Does any Chealski fan really feel a sence of glory when they lift a pot? Is there really a sense of achievement to be had when you've bought a title? If I were to win a large sum of cash on the lottery and bought a plot of land in Scotland that came with the title of Laird (Lord) would I truely feel like a noble lord? Like bo1ocks I would! I'll stick to having a quiet wealth backer like Lewis any day just knowing he's there if we need him rather than becoming a gold digging money grabbing hoare just in it for the money! You can sell the club but do not sell our values Mr Levy.

Over and out. COYS

jenas pushing forward more and o'hara in are positives tho. wish i'd seen gilberto in earlier.

zokora, bae and dawson are the probs. bentley has been poor since he joined us also....

Don't be a cock, want us to lose! Bellend!

We've started quite well, even Daws!

Pav upfront on his own!!! With no support!!!!

How can we expect to score a goal or two.

Left side looks weak i.e
Assou-Ekotto & Gilberto!!!

Zokora, simply not good enough.

Unless Ramos changes things at half time and we go on to win, he must be sacked!!!

I really am getting a sense that this will be a long hard season, with relegation an ever threat. This kind of runs are so hard to get out of. This was an absolutely appalling performance from manager through to every player. I hate to see pressure on Ramos, because constant change has helped cause this, but what else can there be? Ramos is in serious danger of taking Tottenham Hostpur down, and I really think we can't keep saying 'it's early in the season', because it's almost impossible to see where a win will come from. Really, really despondent after this.

I've finally figured it out - Juande is homesick and he is intentionally trying to lose games so he'll get sacked and get his payout. Why else would he consistently sub out our most effective player? Why does he keep benching the player the next game that was our best player the previous game? Down 2-0, he chooses to stay with one striker? He brings Lennon on and plays him out of position. Your playing a terrible squad that is bleeding goals and he chooses to play with one striker? WTF?

Oh dear.

I take back my previous comment regarding there being 37 games to go after the week 1 defeat. There are now 32 games to go. And cause for less optimism.

We should be pissed off, right now. I recommend the following procedures be adopted at the Lane.

Procedure No. 1: Take the captain's armband off Jenas! He is like a Jellyfish in the role. Spineless and all at sea. I mean, seriously I read the Jenas debate the other day and if you can still defend him for what he apparently brings to the table, and slag off Dawson then go ahead. I won't entertain you with further comments.

No. 2: Find a player with a spine and some mettle to be the captain. It doesn't look like an easy find amongst that lot. I'd almost suggest O'Hara. But then I'd be dropping Jenas, too if I was Manager.

No. 3: Stop fucking about with the line up. With sincerity, I think Pav should be dropped and given a month off. Play Bent all the time. He looked sharp and threatened briefly in the twenty or so minutes he was on the park.

No. 4: Accept this as being what it is. A season to rebuild. 5th, 4th? I'd be grateful for mid-table obscurity right now.

I can't bear to watch us at the moment, its so dull I just can't believe it.

I'm sure HH will set up a delightful new post soon for this but based on that match it's hard to imagine us winning anything.

WTF were Ramos and co thinking playing that godawful lineup.

Also did anyone notice the 65% possession we had on the sky sports roundup?

Yeah i noticed the possession we had but we are not doing anything with it. Our confidence is blown apart at the moment, we need to pick up ourselves quick. I would rather being getting the points on the board than worry about cups.

We are getting sucked into a void that we may never be able to return from.

we need to play like the first 10 - 15 minuites of the second half, where we moved the ball and lokked dangerous. The long ball tctic is bafflin and in effective and we seem to be lost on the pitch. we have to potential six pointers against hull and stoke, if we win these we could start to climb the table but it's fuckin' crunch time now!!

we supported the lads 100% today and got no reaction! what more do they want???

I cannot fathom how a team with so much possession can create so few chances. I agree with all who think that the selection was pony. It is clear that Ramos is saving Bent and Campbell for the UEFA cup as Pav will get a rest for not being eligible but even so we cannot afford to treat the league so lightly. Recall Pekhart from Southampton and if we need to save Benty and Campbell at least we could still play two strikers up top. Tell the boy that this is his chance to make a name for himself and see if he really has what it takes. Then play two wingers in their proper positions and tell them to get their crosses in. Also why can every team we play manage to get shots off from midfield yet we continually get outside the opposition box and lose the ball. Surely our midfielders practise shooting. If I watch match of the day on any given week I recon more than half a dozen goals would be scored either by deflected shots or the goalie spilling the ball for someone to tap in etc. Speculate to accumulate as the saying goes. I'm not all doom and gloom because you clearly cannot be all bad if you have the sort of possession we have had in the majority of game so far this season. Clearly we are just lacking that killer instinct or the supply to those who have that instinct! I cannot believe that that this is it for the rest of the season. It simply cannot be. We are not going to be relegated. But we really do need to start taking the league far more seriously than this team selection suggests! Mr Ramos you are teetering on the brink and I am right behind you. For now i'm ready to grab you before you fall, before long I may just have to give you a gentle nudge! I pray that it doesn't come to that!

Whitey - I was thinking about this last week after the Stoke-Liverpool match. I wouldn't say all foreign coaches, but certainly the Spanish coaches don't have a clue.

Both JR and Benitez play this slow, dull, 4-5-1, attack only on the counter brand of football which is the style usually employed by relegation clubs here in the prem. This style will NEVER be successful in this league (no matter how much Rafa spends).

I fully expect us to get 9 points in the league and get into the next round of UEFA in our next 4 games.

And 4-5-1 is a feasible tactic. if you have real pace in the wings. not on the bench. Bentley and Gilberto???????????

Are we entirely sure Manuel is aware that finishing in the bottom 3 results in relegation? It seems he is putting much more emphasis on the cups.

9 points from 9 and we will finish top 6. 3 or less and frankly we arent deserving of being in this division.

Corluka looks painfully slow but somehow manages to do ok. Ramos needs to get his act together quickly, pick a solid side and stick to it. Too much fannying around for my liking...

It has already been mentioned on Sky Sports today that we have less points than Derby County had at the same stage last season, and if that does not send a chill down the spine I don't know what will. Like Derby, we are leaking goals AND cannot score, or even look like scoring. I think that the Prem League has got even stronger since our two back to back fifth place finishes, and you only need to look at Arsenal's result against Hull City yesterday to see what I mean. What ever the time needed to gel the team, we have got to play with much more passion & commitment than seen today - teams like Stoke, WBA, Hull and others will and we cannot just turn up expecting to win because we are Tottenham Hotspur. Teams will not let us play - we must show character and make results happen, otherwise we will get relegated - our form has been trending that way for a long time now. COYS. Just a note of praise for all the regular supporters who pay good money to attend games, especially the bunch that travel to away games - good on you, I mean several hundred miles to St Jjames Park during the week when it was live on SKY - respect.

Ther were some poor performances out there today.
Jenas - Without the handball, JJ was as bad as I've seen him for ages.
BAE just does not look premiership quality to me.
Gilberto - will probably disappear for a few months after that 1st half.
Bentley - looked like he needs a couple of reserve games to get his confidence back.
Mike Dean - should have given the second handball, probably would not be given by most refs if the 1st was'nt given, but after awarding 1st one, 2nd was similar and would normally have been given.
Ramos - piss-poor use of substitutes I felt, agreed with Lennon and J2S coming on, but at 2-0 down surely a second striker was needed?
I do think we are about the same as last season, only we haven't got 2 very good strikers to get us out of the shit, unlike last year.

I'm not that optimistic about Thursday, the big games for me are now Hull and Stoke, a minimum of 4 points is required there.

One last thing, how the fuck did Crouch get MotM?

He won us our first trophy in 9 years, honestly, we need to stick this season out with Ramos. He will come good. You cant lose Robbie and Berba and expect to perform to the same standard, no club would have survived losing 2 player sof their calibre.

True, but we're not creating any chances either. The midfield is less creative than last season and the players look as though they're unsure of their rolls.
No leadership on or off the pitch and I really can't take any positives out of the game except that's it over.

normally a stupid penalty like that would give me ample ammunition to give out about him..

You dont know what you're saying!

He was by far the worst player out there today!

Ramos needs to give the armband to Woody so that clown Jenas back to where he belongs.. on the bench! Coca cola championship would be even better.

The decision to give him the captaincy has cost us big big time!

Corluka looked good to me, classy on the ball, no useless hoofs upfield. The guy isn't the quickest but he's quality. Ask any City fan, they would have him back tomorrow and there a decent side!
As for Pav, can't believe people are slating him, I cannot remember anybody going past him, getting close to him or any decent passes.
Leave Pav & Charlie alone, both good players.
Jenas did nothing, period.
OHara & Zok got stuck in
Bentley - Why did we buy him, we've already got a decent RM in Lennon, not only that he looks abaolute turd, has no pace AND COST ÂŁ15m!!!!
Gilberto / BAE - Awful not good enough for the EPL, not good enough for my Sunday side for that matter.
Daws played quite well, Woody was ok, Gomes didn't do bad.
Ramos, what the f*ck are you doing playing Ledley in the Carling cup when we are bottom of the league!!!!!!!!!!! Every other team in the league plays their two's in that competition, not us we play em in the f*ckin league!
Buy a LW, buy some experienced leaders, forget the fancy dan fairy's its not working!

ps Anyone else see Steed have another good game for the Mackems?

Remember boys - 'We are Tottenham, we are Tottenham, Super Tottenham from the Lane'

oh and as for the captaincy, doesn't matter, your leaders do not need a bit of cloth on their upper arm to make a difference.

We all know we have no chance in the league now. Just make sure we wont be relegated at the end of the season, which Im sure we wont, and win a cup or two then Im happy.

This is not entirely Ramos's fault. The players brought in to the club are just rubbish. I'll give time to Modric and Pavlo because they still adapting to this league. But Jenas, Bentley, Bent, Dawson who been playing their whole career in England??

these line-up changes are absolutely ridiculous. Are these not elite, professional athletes? Why the hell can't they play more than a couple games a week? I understand that there are strategic selections to be made, but it's like Ramos is drawing names at random. You cannot tell me that the likes of Gilberto is out-performing Lennon or J2S in training because that's complete BS.

It's like someone forgot to tell Ramos that the season started in august and he's still dicking around in the pre-season trying to get everyone match fit.

in reply to a little concerned. I just watched the game and was excited about the announcement of the teams because i thought I was going to see a WINNING team picking itself after the game at Newcastle but was left deflated by his recent team selection. Why is Gilberto in the team? Where is Campbell? I thought the defence played well enough with Woodgate and Dawson looking capable enough. The full backs were too slow and Jenas looked brittle. Zakora did well but Bentley was toothless and Pav upfront was looking like the love child of Rasiak and Rebrov. He didn't look like he could score in a brothel with a handful of notes! When we didn't get the penalty I admit that I gave up and was wholly pissed off when Crouchie got the second. We are playing like a team going down....that's worrying. Portsmouth would have been beaten today by a bunch of other EPL teams today. I hope that Ramos can weave some magic some time this season before it is too late.
