Who Is This Pini Zahavi Chap, Then?

Sunday, 28 September 08, 08:57 AM · Comments (287)

Bonnet de Douche! Pini Colada, mon cher?

The slow but steady influx of foriegn investors in English Premiership Clubs only to gathers momentum. Unless you happen to be a rejected, rotund retailer of course. Speculation that Tottenham would 'eventually' be sold to fabulously wealthy suitor has been doing the rounds for some time.

The Guardian piece HERE is interesting. And in the words of The Wonder Pet's Ming Ming, I would suggest 'this is serious.'

Pini Zahavi is not your usual football agent and to confuse him as such would be a mistake.

His client list is impressive enough but it is the manner in which he conducts his business that separates him from what is generally acknowledged a pretty down at heel herd.

It was Zahavi was the man who organised Ferdinand to United. He put Defoe in Portsmouth. He brought Dos Santos to The Lane. But those are just a few notable player deals.

He was the man responsible for brokering the aqusitions of Chelsea FC by Abramovich and Portsmouth FC by Gaydamak.

His cultivation of relationships with some of the most improtant football people on the planet are well documented, but it is his constant presence as a vanguard of football business that puts him in a bracket of his own making.

So who is Pini Zahavi? At times a controversal character. He was a broker for Media Sports Investment, the outfit behind the whole Tevez and Mascherano affair. He was also named in the Stephen's enquiry. But Zahavi would undoutedly argue when you're blazing a trail things happen to you and situations arise. If you want anonmity and peace don't become a king maker.

My conclusion is that if this guy is genuinely involved in any takeover discussions at Tottenham then this is real, this is happening and the as yet unnamed Asian billionaire would be an interesting prospect. I would say sound, but who can predict the future?

Besides, anyone who described Ken Bates as 'a revolting character' can't be all bad.

This is good news, I think. We're in real danger of being left behind unless we get some serious outside investment. Some might bemoan a lack of stability that this might bring but we've not exactly been steady in the past few seasons. Just look at the number of players we buy and sell each season compared to, say, Villa. And as for all you Levy lovers out there pointing out how well the club is doing financially my mum could turn a profit at Spurs if she stuck the season tickets up by 10% and sold our best players without stumping up for adequate replacements.

Can Lionel Messi play on the left?

without doubt all these foreign multi billionaire owners of our premiership clubs are going to destroy the premiership. there's already talk of Man city willing to pay the likes of Gerrard and Essien £500,000 per week. how long before we see the first £1m a week player. I for one would find it hard to keep my season ticket whilst watching my team struggle at the wrong end off the table whilst drawing these obscene wages at the end of the week

I can't halp but feel that for all Levy's stealth we wouldn't be harmed by an operation that didn't fanny about with money.

The wheels fell off this window allegedly due to 'agent activity'. This, in English, translates as 'the money being short' and probably by buttons.

You talk sense, but no team containing either of those players is very likely to find itself in a relegation scrap.

More likely to find some clowns who sold their top players the clubs they play for in such a mess.

Agree with Yidango. This will tear the league apart. I'm sure we would all love to have that kind of money, but it will reach a point where it really doesn't make a difference. If there were 20 clubs in the PL with billionaire owners there would still be only 4 CL spots available and 3 clubs would still be relegated.

the way things are going ALL premiership clubs will be owned by mega rich owners and out of those you will have top players playing for teams at the wrong end of the table... Some club has to be bottom!

hmmmmmmmmm, not a happy chappy to hear this news.i can understand that there are supporters out there that want instant success, get in a billionaire and buy every top player going, fire money for wages around left, right and centre to compete, this all sounds great right now but in my opinion its a bad train to jump on.there is only one place this trend of selling our clubs to rich playboys is taking the premiership, and thats ruin.so we sell to a billionaire, great, next its newcastle, then someone else in a few months, until all clubs are owned by billionaires spending vast amounts of money on tranfers and wages, which will end up going to foreign clubs as we wont want to sell to each other,so the only place all this money will be going is out of the premiership and into the pockets of foreign clubs and players strenghtening other leagues.then say in a few years when all clubs have been sold and were all after buying as many top players as we can, where then.only four clubs could possibly make a profit, champs league places, what of the rest?do you honestly believe that the billionaires outside the top 4 who see massive losses of money year in year out are going to continue that trend,no way.they will get out as quick as poss leaving clubs in financial ruin due to wages and in turn spell the end of the prem.i hope i'm wrong but i can only one outcome and its not good.

The new owners of Man City are an investment company and will want to recoup and make a profit on any money they pump into the club.

Look I think that this would be a good thing for the club short term. We will get our billionaire playboy owner and more EPL clubs will go the same way. When it get to a point of no return and clubs start getting left in the lurch the EPL will collapse. And I think that all this will be a good thing for Football. All this mone leaving the game will see wages come down and clubs being run on sound footballing and economic principals again. All the big money men in the FA will hopefully run for their lives and all we would be left with is people with a passion for the game who just want to be involved and see the game improve. I see this as the beginnings of a football revolution and hopefully our national game will rise out of the ashes like a pheonix instead of just dying. I know its a bit dramatic and some will say Im a bit crazy but if this does happen then I believe we will get the kind of football that we saw 20 years ago full of passion and determination to succeed, playing for the shirt and players earning similar money to the people paying to watch them play. Im too young to have seen any of the famous players like Hoddle or Ardilles or Blanchflower or Jennings but from what my Dad tells me about them it was a glorious time of Football when footballers were real men and none of this diving crap. Now if these billionaire owner can get a move on and destroy the EPL so we can go back to a time when football was a way of life and not just a business then that would be great.

Harry - brilliant work in quoting Ming Ming. Personally, I'm deeply suspicious of the foreign takeovers. I strongly doubt whether any of them (apart - so far - from Randy Lerner at Villa) are in the LONG-TERM interests of the clubs concerned. But a takeover of some description is inevitable, especially with the likes of Citeh getting such a huge boost. Remember everyone 'We're not that big, and we're not that strong, but if we work together, we'll get the job done!'

Spot on calebray!

But lets be honest Joe Lewis is a billionaire and having one in control of the club doesn't necessisarily mean that we will end up with one like the dodgy Ruski down the road. In fact top football clubs all have very wealthy backing but not all choose to pump endless sums of bank notes into the game in the hope of immediate glory! Glory, an interesting word. Does any Chealski fan really feel a sence of glory when they lift a pot? Is there really a sense of achievement to be had when you've bought a title? If I were to win a large sum of cash on the lottery and bought a plot of land in Scotland that came with the title of Laird (Lord) would I truely feel like a noble lord? Like bo1ocks I would! I'll stick to having a quiet wealth backer like Lewis any day just knowing he's there if we need him rather than becoming a gold digging money grabbing hoare just in it for the money! You can sell the club but do not sell our values Mr Levy.

Over and out. COYS

zokora, bae and dawson are the probs. bentley has been poor since he joined us also....

Don't be a cock, want us to lose! Bellend!

We've started quite well, even Daws!

Pav upfront on his own!!! With no support!!!!

How can we expect to score a goal or two.

Left side looks weak i.e
Assou-Ekotto & Gilberto!!!

Zokora, simply not good enough.

Unless Ramos changes things at half time and we go on to win, he must be sacked!!!

I really am getting a sense that this will be a long hard season, with relegation an ever threat. This kind of runs are so hard to get out of. This was an absolutely appalling performance from manager through to every player. I hate to see pressure on Ramos, because constant change has helped cause this, but what else can there be? Ramos is in serious danger of taking Tottenham Hostpur down, and I really think we can't keep saying 'it's early in the season', because it's almost impossible to see where a win will come from. Really, really despondent after this.
