Who's This Frazier Campbell Chap?

Saturday, 06 September 08, 09:27 AM · Comments (80)

The viewing figures for England U21's game last night were bumped out of the stratosphere by Yids eagerly hoping to get a glimpse of one Frazier Campbell. the few contributions he made were pleasing enough.
Sifting through opinion on Manchester United boards their views are all much the same. Good player with huge potential.
"Big-headed, by the sounds of things."
"He's coming back."
"Campbell's not "powerful", to me. He's quick but gets hassled off the ball when under pressure. Takes tackles well, though, and isn't afraid of charging at players."
"Its a good move for Campbell. Now he'll get better chances to prove his class."
He is absolutely unproven, but with only Benty and Crazy Paving and the soon to be upon us 'cup tied striker' issue, we are almost certain to see him in the first team sooner rather than later.
I'll add I do like Snap's idea that his shirt ought be 'Brazillian 'styleeee' and just have FRAZIER on the back.
Your thoughts as ever, my dears...

Good idea about the shirt name Harry, we don't want the other name appearing at the lane, you know the one that starts with c!

I'm really sorry but I just can't get myself excited about this boy. There's something tainted about this whole relationship, and as much potential he has, I couldn't truthfully give a toss. I'm putting all my eggs in one basket and hoping that Benty has a cracker and that Pav proves his detractors wrong and is on a one man mission to put away any sniff of the ball.

Sooner January comes, the sooner we can put this issue of potential to bed.

I sent the shirt idea to Levy yesterday (and the club confirmed that the email was forwarded to him), and with it I sent a link to yesterday's blog bigging him up!

If FRAIZER can score 25 goals this season it's a good deal for us. But buying price will then be £30.75m.

A two footed striker? Thats a good thing. No more outside of the boot slices do we have to put up with, missed goal scoring opportunities because our striker is so one footed . . .could be a good thing.
Now, how do i email Paul Barber, John Alexander or Daniel Levy?

I live near Hull and i know someone in the coaching staff who watched him a few times.

He told me that the boy has great potential and he was a great help in getting Hull City up and they are gutted that he went back to utd. Apparently he is (im swearing i no) similar to Ian Wright very cocky and we will give defenders no time to settle, also loves to look to get on to a final ball with his playing on the shoulder of the defender.

I feel utd have been very clever on this move because if we play him we are just giving him the experience that he needs in the prem and now even europe.

my first post deserved that comment but it's just hard to be excited by a player who isnt ours and was only loaned at the last minute as a stop-gap solution. I hope he does well as im sure he,ll get some games but come january when we (hopefully)buy another striker then his chances are going to become limited and truthfully if we do splash out then surely he will feature less and less,so really were just hoping he can see us through to the next transfer window ?

How clever have Utd been? The story is at 11.30 or so we said ffs givvus a striker or no deal, our deals have all gone tits up. So red nose calls Fraizer. Hardly a cunning conspiracy on their part. If he scores goals that's all we need for a year.

I agree with you snap but then again they will have 5 strikers, which surely will not favour fraz next season, but if tevez leaves maybe it will be good for him, im not sure what will happen but i feel we are just making him a better player if we play him.

I still find it hard to believe we would take a promising youngster on a loan only deal. Is this guy really that far ahead of Peckhart?
The 11th hour deal that saw Berbhisoff going left us light up front until January and maybe that was our thinking, he is for 3 months only not all season. Either than or we have an unpublished transfer clause that's being kept quiet. I will be totally sick if we just groom him for a return to OT. Meanwhile I hope he gives us some service.

i guess campbell has had 1 season in the championship and Peckhart has not. So he might be regarded as being a bit more ready. Really crazy of us not to have an option to purchase. At the point of the evening Fergie would have given in

I think the reasoning behind Pekhart is that he has only seen reserve action and Fraiser has at least played a single season in the championship so he is the safer bet. Plus he is a free player for us as Man U are still paying his wages. We allow Pekhart to develop properly and not throwing him in at the deep end. Reserve team action straight to the firs team just doesnt happen anymore and most of the time managers want to see players cut it week in week out in a lower league and see where it goes from there. Trust me even if Fraiser turns out to be better than just average is he really going to get a look in at Man U if he likes it at the Lane then he might tell Fergie where to go. If he wants to stay at Man U then it didn't cost us anything and we can start to bring through Pekhart after hes had a season in the Championship. Its not ideal but seeing as we couldn't bring anyone else in it seems to be a sensible solution. Thats IF I'm right of course. Im just speculating but it makes sense.

If you missed CaptainMabbsey's link yesterday to this response to a Vital article you may find it enlightening:

Here's some interesting info... well, some of you may not be interested, but I always enjoy finding out the stuff that us fans aren't usually privy to. Regarding the Fraizer Campbell loan deal... On Monday, Campbell had agreed to join Wigan on loan for one year. At around 4pm, Roy Hodgson, Steve Bruce and Paul Ince were all at the hotel Campbell was staying in, trying to persuade him to join their clubs on loan. He rejected Fulham because he preferred to stay in Manchester near his girlfriend, he rejected Blackburn for one reason apparently because Danny Simpson is on loan there from United, and either him or his dad allegedly can't stand the bloke, thanks to various unflattering, lurid stories that hit the press. So the decision was made that Fraizer would go to Wigan. He was never going to Hull - they bid £7m, but Ferguson refused to sell at any price. But, his agent decided to play hardball and asked Bruce for a £250,000 fee!! I won't go into details of what I heard about how that fee could be put through the books, but basically it was agreed to. So all the paperwork was drawn up, everyone was looking forward to a big fat bonus, while United were waiting for the paperwork to come back to them for Campbell to sign, Spurs called at about 10pm demanding Campbell on loan as part of the Berbatov deal. Allegedly the Campbell loan would be the sweetener for Spurs to drop their complaint to the Premier League, there was no money involved in getting us to do that. So basically Ferguson said, "he's going to Tottenham". United love it because they know he'll get games since we're short up front. He's on £27k per week, 0-9 goals is no bonus, once he scores 10 he gets £50k bonus, then £10k per goal after that!! Plus, Levy was offering £2k per month to pay for his accommodation down here, but eventually agreed on £8k per month!! No matter what so-called ITKs tell you, THERE IS NO OPTION TO BUY AT THE END OF THE YEAR. If he's a world-beater, they'll take him back, if he proves he can't cut it in the PL, they may then let us have him (how nice). Ferguson will NOT sell to Spurs because he can't stand Levy, with a passion! Just thought i'd give you a bit of inside info to chew over (PS. Levy and the financial director did all the negotiating, not DC)

ALSO he started the firdt game of the season for UTD even though tevez and shrek were both fit!

The key thing is he is young and ambitous, so he'll love every oppurtunity he gets and works his little socks off. He is an ideal 3rd choice striker and that is a good thing to have.

No plays fairly well in a dozen games gets a few goals, he goes back we get someone better in Jan or the summer (hopefully Jan). If he plays pretty well, are Utd even going to want him back. If he plays like Pele we've had a season of him for nothing. If he plays like Rasiak he's cost us nothing!
Its win / win! What did you want us to do, pay through the nose for an average striker and be gutted. None of the big deals for strikers came off as such this seems like the best option. If Barca had of said to us 2 years ago, do you fancy Messi for a year to give him some experience would you have said 'no, its a lose / lose situation?' No you wouldn't as such how can it be lose / lose. Think about it he's costing us c*ck all for a year! :?

Man Utd have 3 strikers now that Saha has gone,(Rooney, Tevez, & I'd rather not say his name!) along with FC... So if he does well they will probably want him back. But i don't agree we are in a lose lose situation, the boy is a quality young English prospect! Who i have seen play - He has a fantastic work ethic (unlike a certain Bulgarian!) with pace to burn and eye for goal, so if he bangs in the goals and helps up in all the competitions we are in, (albeit only a year) then so be it... At least we are going to benefit in the short term, and you never know what has really been confirmed... behind the scenes? I don't listen to all these ITK's, half of them talk a load of bollocks! It's only lose/lose if you remove from the equation what he does for us on the pitch.

Very easy to 'wash ones hands' of the situation. I think it's a an unmitigated fiasco.

But if IF this chap puts on our shirt and be it for whatever reason aids the cause and dare I wish it, assists us to win a pot before buggering off again, I'll thank him and wish him well for his trouble.

You've probably touched on something there. This chap is properly in the shop window now. Irrespective of where his future lies.

Can you imagine he would feel as 'pumped' or as motivated if he was now in training at Hull or Wigan or wherever he was originally destined for?

His profile has gone from virtually zero to housedhold (well in football circles) name. He knows all eyes are upon him and that Tottenham have literally just bought a rather exciting midfield.

He has to perform.

If he's sh*t, yes. But up until that point, let's back him. You never know, we might, just might get a good spin out of this mess yet.

I understand what your saying but look at jamie o hara last season for example no first team experience but was great in MF last season. also the championship is different to the EPL and more physical so more chance of injury plus with only 3 strikers he could have been an option off the bench. i hate to say it but look at wenger he blooded youngsters and they came good, i think pekhart is in his 20's so now is the time to see if he can cut it.

Shit, pressed the wrong bloody button...

Don't press the number one and then full stop, then shift, it posted my bloody unfinished message, you don't need to know that.

The first thing was an interview I saw on Spurs tv with Darren Bent, he was waffling on about basket ball and helping kids in london, and was asked at the end of the interview about his goal against Chelski, he was well chuffed, he said the team felt they dominated for long periods and if we play like that every week we will "batter" teams. So what, you say well there seems to be a steely determination there to beat people, look, it just sounded great, he still said "yea, definately, I mean" alot, but in general he just sounded up for it, try and watch it, you will see what i mean.

Secondly, was the youtube vid about Pav, I don't know how to do links, but if you put in Pavlyuchenko and scroll down the various vids, one is sent by globalPREVED, 9 minute compilation, it is fantastic, you may have seen it, but the goals, the soundtrack, he is fuckin good, I tell you. The first sound track is called explosion by Bond, sounds gay and is a bit, but it just goes well with our new Russian hitman. Watch it and roll on Villa

Assuming our roster stays relatively healthy, FC is unlikely to see a great deal of action, other than training with the first team and riding the pine as a sub.

Suppose Spurs then buy well in the striker market in January.

Would it not make for good sport to have FC shifted into training with the reserves who would kick lumps out of him before returning damaged goods to MU?

Could Spurs not realize an unexpected profit by selling tickets to such training sesions? Encourage fan participation by placing a body map of FC on the OS and letting fans choose which body part they'd like to see battered?

Or is that just being too beastly for our own good?

Sounds like a night out with Rooney.

I think the big question for us all is: how is Peckhart doing with Southhampton? Is he lighting up the championship? As regards FC, I think he'll be played as needed - I doubt if he'll be the main feature. Most likely, he'll get minutes in Europe and the Cups. I'm sure JR & DL know the drunken scott wants him here for experience and they'll try not to be badly used, especially since there is no "option to buy" clause in the loan contract.

thoughts who maybee could interest all:

Ronaldo from Manch U and Ronaldinho have been
very similar. Both skinny, when young, but after being pumped with steroids, become a kind
of musclemen, with weak legs.
Both playing fantastic, but then injured and
look at Ronaldinho, lost muscles, got more fat
and not the same player as before.
Ronaldo can easily say, my place are Manch U, but he is injured, and maybee not come back before new year when transfer open again, and then he maybee transfer to Real Madrid if he can ever play again, and be the same.
Today football like other sports are filled with medicin, and steriods etc
I dont no if it is a wildshot, but I believe
there are something about it.
Meaning Manch U, will NOT be the same this season, even with Berba. Now Chelski lost Essien with a very bad injury, arsenal are not
at their best, and Liverpool can we beat. The
way are open for us.

I think we need to give the kid a chance but I wish he'd can it with the "I'm off back to O/T at the end of the season" & "I'm just here to get some time on the pitch" quotes... Even if they are true.

At least let me have the illusion of a good deal for 5 minutes!!!

Riding the pine.

Sorry if that's causing confusion. It's a sporting term often used here in Her Majesty's Timbered Dominion. When a player spends too much time on the bench, waiting to be subbed in.

Next week, we'll introduce readers to The Five Hole.

Snap/Cap'nMabbsey/Ginge/DV

Ok let me get this right.
1. Unlike what Ginge intimated (or indeed unlike I expected), he's not actually here for the year on a free loan as in 'all expenses paid by Manure'?
2. He's on £27k per week - paid by us?
3. He gets an accommodation budget of £8k per month - paid by us?
4. Once he scores 10 he gets £50k bonus, then £10k per goal after that - paid by us?

So if I stick my maths head on, if he stays the year and scores 0 goals, we're still paying (at least):
9 months = approx 40 weeks
£27k + £8k = £35k
So 40 weeks x £35k per week = £1.4m for his services for the 40 odd weeks he's here? With scoring bonuses on top? Hardly free in my book. For that he'd better score some goals for us! Further to my previous post, I now believe that we should all give a toss how this boy does!

"I ain't snivellin'! It's me rheumaticky eyes what's waterin'!"

ASIDE: Walcunt on Englands right flank against Andorra FFS! We've got Bentley with his delivery and set piece skills and Aarron with his pace and energy and improving delivery so WTF is Capello doing? I'd prefer OUR boys to stay fit and do the job for Spurs, but internationals can help the boys get more confidence and experience on the big stage. We've got the best 2 English right wingers and both have been snubbed in favour of a world cup waster and Wengers influence in the FA.

England were largely unwatchable. Walnut was impressive but none of them had thhe brainpower to see firing crosses in to Defoe & Rooney marked ny eight men each was a waste of time.

Cole's goal was almost in a fit of anger. 'This is how you do it'.

I cannot see England qualifying. All the usual problems and support that does three bursts of God save the Queen and then starts booing.

Two words.

Self & distruct.

Is Pekhart not as promising then? Apreciate the fact we didn't panic buy and needed another striker but the whole thing makes no sense. No point in hyping a Man U reserve no matter how good he is

I must confess (which I'm sure will upset some of you) to having slightly divided loyalties, and whilst a born and raised Spurs fan I also hold a season ticket for Bristol City (for reasons of geography, affordability and simply wanting to watch football - for anybody out in the West Country they like to play with the ball on the floor, much like The Glory). Therefore, watching a lot of Championship football, Frazier is a class act - I know it's on a different level and remains to be seen whether he can deliver in the Premiership, but he's a great player.

I know a lot of people have commented on the point of us giving him experience and handing him back but, frankly, who cares? If he bags goals and we qualify for Champions League we'll be in a better position to attract those strikers who didn't want to come to a team who finished 11th last year, and if not, we've lost nothing. BIOYC!

Course Pecker's promising otherwise he wouldn't still be on the books. He's obviously just not been deemed ready to hit the PL stage for us. Ramos and Gus have obviously had a good look at him in Spain, and whatever it is - he's just not there yet, whether its personality, steeliness, team play etc. Southampton will be good for him and good for us. Jamie O is a case in point. This way we know he's in good hands (coaching wise), we know he'll get first team experience, and we know he'll get decent exposure to a more physical game to toughen him up whether that's mentally, physically or both.

As for hyping up a Manure reserve, we'll I guess it was just to counter all the bitching and moaning thats been going on and to show us it could be a good deal. As far as this kid goes, I hope he is the new Pele and has a blinder for us (we are paying for the services after all) and next year he can keep the bulgarian on the bench.

A noble effort at maths Trembly, but the 8k accom is per month ergo:

40 x 27k = £1,080,000
9 x 8k = £72,000
Total without goal bonuses £1,152,000

Pittance in todays world really, but 27k a week seems high, i'd have given £12k considering his age & experience Man Ure overpaid lol
