A sense of historic excitement is in the air...
Huge, expertly trained teams of men operating vast ropes and a complex series of cogs and pulleys, not seen since the construction of the great pyramids, prepare deliver the monolith Emile Heskey to White Hart Lane.
A full house is anticipated.
Paul Barber, armed only with a loud hailer and his Blackberry, is currently flying around the streets of Greater Manchester selling off excess Home tickets to 'exceptionally well behaved' Wigan fans, some of whom are thought to be One Hotspur Members.
Meccano have confirmed that Ledley King will miss this game. The thread of a screw went on the mounting plate of his right knee's 6v electrical motor and only two came with the player. The first was previously lost in Faces nightclub back in May. A spare is on it's way from France but will not arrive before the 3pm kick off.
Squad for the match then? I'd like Gunter at right back and Bent & Pav up front. If we have failed to score by half time then I want Campbell brought on and play all three of 'em until we do. I don't care if we're all still here at 3am. I want some goals and a win.
If anyone sees Vedran Corluka in a Spurs shirt can they please calmly report this to a steward.
Thank you.
My prediction is Bentley to score one of our goals when we beat them 2-1.
forget wednesdays game. Are we more likely to get a result in it by winning tomorrow and putting out the same team on wednesday, or by weakening ourselves tomorrow and going into the game with little or no confidence on wednesday? Hmmm, simple answer really.
I think Corluka should be given another go, one poor game doesn't make him a bad player, he was very good last season for citeh. Would rather see him play CB than bloody Dawson.
Ramos' substitution of Gunter with O'Hara, putting Didier Zokora at right back still puzzles me. Why replace a well-rested natural right back who was having a good game with the unpredictable and unreliable Zokora, whose carelessness in possession was the main factor in Krakow procuring the equaliser? What is it about this menace that continues to beguile everyone from Damien Commoli to Martin Jol to Gus Poyet? It's insanity. (sweeping statement to follow) He is hands down the biggest obstacle we have to improving this season.
Gomes
Gunter Corluka Woodgate Bale
Bentley Jenas Zokora Lennon
Bent Pavlyuchenko
Sanchez, Dawson, Assou-Ekoto, Hudd, O'Hara, Giovani, Campbell.
We usually beat wigan well, and I want another victory. a comfortable, enjoyable, stressfree 3-0 win would be absolutely brilliant.
All-Ireland final tomorrow folks, Kerry v Tyrone. Who are you backing?

Sounds simple enough but not sure commom sense is prevailing at WHL at the moment.
Before the villa game Gus tried to justify the balls-up of a team selection by going on about the number of games we've coming up, hope JR doesn't make the same mistake again.

That's if Ledders is fit. If not Zok to play in his stead with OHara moving into DM mode and Gio out on the left flank. Everyone know's where they're supposed to be in a 442 - no excuses. I want to win the CC again, but not half as much as I want to finish at least top 5 and win the UEFA and/or FA Cup.
I don't know why I bother. I tax myself in thinking this through, but some other formation always comes up instead. As long as we win, I don't mind being proved wrong thank you very much.

Too right, but I'd rather king than either of them. Charly, like Bentley, needs to be brought up to speed fitness wise imho.
Ramos will rest Bent, he hinted as much in his latest press conference. I expect it'll be Gio and Pav up front. Also maybe Assou-Ekotto at LB and Bale at LM? What about Corluka instead of Zokora at DM?

insane indeed. Corluka has to play. He is quality. He was up against Young, one of the best LM in the league. Corluka will come good. It was only weeks ago everyone on here was claiming him to be an ideal signing for us with his versatility, yet after on poor game he's not getting a mention in peoples formations? Crazy. Out him CB, he'll sort out the lump that is Heskey.
Is Modric & King definitely out?
Also, i've noticed our bench is always defensive heavey. we really could have done with Arshavin and a striker.... maybe January will bring delightful belated christmas presents.
Occasionally when I play with my work collegues a couple of the middle aged spreaders turn up.
We stick them on the same team and only count them as one player due to the fact they are less than mobile.
Perhaps we can do the same with Pav and charlie boy?
Not intentionally being a numpty, but is there a curse on WHL? Or at our training ground? It seems to me that we've had far too many 'sicknotes' on the books through the years to be a mere coincidence.
Is it the type of ground we have on these pitches? Is it something in the water? Whatever it is, I'd like less of it please. It's ruined many good players, most recently Ledders and I don't want lil' Luka to go down the same broken path.
Harry, a usually witty opener with bitter overtones. I agree with most of what you say apart from Corluka, he could have done better but for a first game and the rest of the defence running around like headless chickens especially Dawson he didn't do to bad, lets give him time to settle in.
What we really need to hope for is a change to the system that allows transfers 2 weeks into the season, this doesn't give time for new players time to settle into the team properly look at Keane and Berbatov.
Anyway COYS and BIOYC
RJ1882 - Modders def out. On the OS. King tbc. Charly is a good lad, he's not got much in the way of pace but has a good defensive brain when in gear. Him, Bently and Pav all need bringing up to speed. Perhaps they should all meet up to do 5 mile sprints every morning at 8am to catch up on the preseason.
Last year we heard loads about double sessions. Why not this year? After the start that we've had - double sessions will surely help. Perhaps a quick jolly to Alicante after the mad rush of games can help initiate some new bonds?
I'd be quietly confident about winning this one if Modric were back....as it is, hopefully Pav and Gio, with Lennon and Bentley will provide the firepower we need (Bent could do with a rest). Wigan are an improved side and will put up a stern fight.
Reply to jolsgonemental:
we bought bentley in July.
why isnt he fit?
Just about... 31st July. Prior to that he was training by himself. But he didn't want to burn himself out, so he just practiced hoofing footballs in his back garden apparently. Since them his hair has grown a bit and hair gel gets heavy when it gets sweaty, so that slows him down as well. Either that or he's found Robbo's old stash of jelly beans.
Seroiusly? He shouldn't be huffing and puffing after 6 weeks of intensive. I can only assume that he's not been doing an intensive or had a niggle that's prevented him going past 2nd gear.
May I just say the worthless dig at Corluka was no more than that. He needs to be played again as swiftly as possible. I am one of the few people on this earth who rates Gilberto. And his debut was less auspicious than Charlies.
On Modric JGM, an inside source at Airfix assures me it's not too serious and they think they can use part of an Afrika Corp crouching sniper to repair him.
"If anyone sees Vedran Corluka in a Spurs shirt can they please calmly report this to a steward."
LOL. To be fair I think the weight of expectation from the fans after the early Villa goal may have just shaken him a bit. Kept making the stupidest of mistakes, like holding off an opposition player really well only to misplace the pass when he finally released the ball. Maybe he just needs another chance.
If anyone sees Michael Dawson in a Spurs shirt can they please immediately report this to police, for pretending to be a good player and fooled Ramos to extended his contract. Its a crime I believe.
I dont want to talk about Bentley(flop), out of respect to HH. I believe he is one of HH favorite players.
3-1 mighty tottenham. Pavlo, Bramble own goal
, Pavlo again.
we must win, or the axe will start to swing ever nearer to Ramos's neck!!!

I do admit I have a soft spot for Bentley. I also admit his crosses are largely iffy. But the boy wants it.

A great post Sir Harold but I've noticed that the better the pre match prattle the worse we play.
Is this just coincidence ?
If you haven't noticed Frazier Campbell can on as sub the other day, and immediatly look a threat (his position, awareness and runs)- unlike Darren Bent.
So in conclusion Ramos ought to play him as a sub again vs wigan - or play him with Pav.

Surely there's no better man to ease Pav into the premier league against than Titus Bramble??? Great opportunity to open his account

"Next to useless"? 3 goals in 3 games with little in the way of decent delivery. So does that mean if he's next to useless then by 'useless' you mean his strike partner/man in the hole/midfield?

Still no left winger.
Morning Trembly,

after having a bit of a fit about this i came to this conclusion:
Our season is already gone, top four - no no
top six - dont think so
it will be christmas before we realise 3/4 of our potential. If ramos is indeed thinking of walking then go now - he is a cup manager - is poyet goin to be any different?
I am not and never will be a fairweather fan who jumps on the latest mistake and shouts for a good productie manager to be removed but....
The team selections and substitutions have baffled me - i am looking for someone to prove me wrong please
or he can just fuck off now and leave us with gus and clive

The weather is not as sunny or hot as Spain, but at least we don't have to worry about having enough water to keep our grass green. As for the food! Honestly, what nonsense. If he was stuck somewhere like say Sunderland then there's probably less in the way of choice but to supposedly complain about food in London FFS. You can tell its been made up, as we can get any type of food from anywhere here. Some excellent Spanish restaurants run by Spaniards that Spaniards go to, even those on holiday from Spain! Don't usually read this poeple nonsense and I hope I haven't contributed to any pay per click revenue from this. Guaranteed, I won't click any more...

My random, completely out of whack prediction is based on nothing but the universe's mysterious tendency (amid the detailed working of chaos) to eventually balance out. Given that we've had our fair share of (at times self inflicted) bad luck, surely we're due a windfall of the good stuff. A saner bet would go with JGM's prediction.

Not sure I agree with the top 6 thing but certainly better than what I read yesterday. Did anyone else read that horrific c**t Merson yesterday? Don't even know what paper it was but basicly half baked, stilted piece of gooner clap trap how we never should have sold PSB and Sulk and how Modric and Pav are basicly shit with no hint of having any wider knowledge of what brought it all about. Taking a rather delicious selection of tapas to share with senor Ramos at half time.
Expect an inspired team talk and a second half full of fireworks.
Give O'Hara a game at DM. He was very vocal, determined and physical when he came on against the Poles and deserves a start.
I would give O'hara a run in DM, he has spirit, but the forwards im not sure about. I think Pav needs time to settle so for me its campbell and Bent. On Thursday they looked good together upfront it could blossom into a good partnership and i think there pace could be a threat to Wigans defensive.
Also has anyone noticed why we are starting to hit long again?, i thought we would play more on the floor with Ramos or do we not have enough quality to play on the floor. I saw a glimpse of what we could with the goal, that wasn't offside on Thursday.
more of that please.
I think its high time we seek a permanent replacement for Ledders .. his yo-yoing in and out of the team is surely not helping with consistency.
Today will be an anxious one. When you hear of Wigan coming to the land and posing a threat you know that something is definatley not right.

i have a good feeling about this one, then again ive had a good felling before all our games this season! no honestly i think it will be tight but we will nick it by a goal, 3-2
What channel is the game on? I can't see it listed anywhere.
questionable line up yet again. Zokora at RB, Assou Ekotto at LB is risky. I do however like the natural width we'll have with Bentley and Bale on the wings. Hopefully plenty of balls in the bos, withg Pav and Bent having plenty of chances. Good to see O'Hara given a chance. Lets hope he can take it.

well lets think on the positive we got a clean sheet lol
We had a good second half, died a bit in the last 5.
Man of the match for me were the THFC supporters, WE ARE TOTTENHAM, SUPER TOTTENHAM fantastic support for the lads.
Small step ....but in the right direction
This team will sadly be relegated!!!
Played 5 games, only 2 points! Completely unacceptable!!!
Out of our big money signings only Gomes and Corluka look effective. Corluka was great at centre back.
Both Bentley & Pav both lacking. Modric injured but looks light weight on what we have seen of him so far.
Darren Bent still continues to not impress me!!!
WE must seriously consider life in the Championship next season - we are struggling to score goals or even have shots on goal.
Rubbish all round!!!
We are struggling for points, and right now I cannot even seeing us reaching 20 or even 40 points!!!!!
The axe must swing very soon!!!!
"This team will sadly be relegated!!! "
Not a chance, 2 points from 12 may be relegation form, but there are some much worse teams in this league.
It will slowly turn around, you have gotta believe it.
Just like last season, if we do not start winning games very soon, the end of October is when everyone i.e Board, players & fans will not tolerate any more bad results.
And the axe will definetly swing, and in my view not just on Ramos, but Comoli as well.
1981 spurs you really are a fickle little cunt
This was to be one of my few games of the season but I decided against it due to work demands.
Reckon I got lucky. Sounds dire on the radio with the crowd in shocked deadly silence. Reminds me of some of the worst of the late 70s games.
Booing at the end; commentators talking about the "dangers of being cut adrift" & "not sure where the next points are going to come from";
arse on top & Spurs at bottom.
How much worse can it get? The Groundhoginess of it all is draining.. It's beginning to feel like the era of good times BMJ brought us has ended with the arrival of Comolli's 'messiah'.
5th place. Uefa cup place.
Atrocious start. Mid table.
5-1 arse. 2-1 chelski. League cup trophy.
Great expectations. Bottom and sinking.
I diagnose extreme bi-polar disorder.
Even if Wendy pulls these players together over the coming season, I still don't see anything like a top 4 team in this squad. Cards on the table: I don't rate this midfield. Even at its best I don't see it rising above mid-table in quality. Where's our spine? Woody, ok. Then who? I see no-one else with the same stature regarding ability, authority or consistancy.
I'm actually starting to take the idea of a relegation battle seriously. It feels to me that at best, this season is simply a preparation for the next one. There's nothing to play for except relegation avoidance. This isn't a rant by the way, I'm very calm. Maybe I'm past caring; maybe I'm just on a whining downer; I'm sure some of you will offer your highest quality analysis.
I'm hoping of course that Wendy, Gus and the boys will sort me some of those Positive pills and prove me an ignorant wet flannel of a pessimist.
Please god.

All players largely care, that's how they became professionals. Never really understood the trend for claiming players don't care just because they're not performing at their best(see: typical Engerland fan on phone-in after typical Engerland match).
I believe it's more a lack of ability rather than application.
Even Daniel Wynne the ex chairman of the Spurs Independent Trust (who still wears an official Spurs Blazer with the mighty cockerel on the breat pocket) when he came down from the TV box at half time to check on his son/s said:

24 points from 23 Games in 2008 - well over half a seasons worth of form so not a temporary blip by any means. The majority of these games were also with a far better side than the current team.

Anyone care to give a detailed breakdown of what happened?
Like JGM I feel a bit non-plussed by it all, I think i'm in a state of shock still and can't fully accept what is going on. I feel sort of numb and feel like we have turned back into the Spurs of old (the 90's version). The good times look to have well and truly gone, without the Carling cup win Ramos' record is appaling!
Citeh won 6-0 against Pompey and the money hasn't really begun to be pumped into them.
Jo scored for them again, why were we not in for players like this in the summer?
I can't remember feeling worse after a match than this one. We were unable to offer any sort of threat up front and we seem to have gone backwards since last season.
Bentley was awful, Jenas invisible and although Bent seemed to be trying hard he is incapable of controlling a ball. We didn't look too bad at the back and I thought Corluka had a good game though why we play Arsey Ekotto instead of Bale or Gilberto I don't know.
I suspect there may be "Trouble at Mill" . The world and his brother know we need a central defender and the whole business with the Bulgarian and Arshavin demonstrates how inept the club are at handling transfers.
It's interesting to reflect that we refused to pay 8 mill for Ashley Young but paid double that for Bent. So does that suggest a successful winning Sporting Director?
I think not.

They were crap big blokes against whom we couldn't manage to create one clear cut chance to beat.
Blimey you lot are bad. Its not even fun taking the piss out of you lot. Once again all summer you lot made it out like Arsenal were in crisis. Flamini and Hleb gone blah blah blah. We have so many injuries and are still top. We have a world class manager, you dont, deal with it.

Thanks ODM for that detailed analysis, I take it we were that bad! Anyone look half decent for us?
It amazes me that Clubs with nominal budgets can create a proper team. They may have limited ability but they are always organised (Blackburn, Wigan, Sunderland, Boro etc) and difficult to breakdown. Yet we usually concede for fun (apart from today!) and never look that threatening no matter who we play.
The only thing is I'm not a huge fan of chopping and changing but at what point do we say enough is enough. This isn't just 5 games this is last season as well when we assumed it was a hangover after the Carling Cup (and related Faces escapades!)

Certainly looks that way which is doubly gutting as in Ramos I thought we had a special manager. I'm starting to doubt it.......
how can we be so uncreative, lack any balls and fight, play like seriously we just dont care. Ramos's team selections are questionable... Lennon should definitely have played today, on teh left if needs be, with Bale at LB. This is an absolute nightmare start to the season, continuing from a nightmare end to last seasos, and we, seriously, are not too far from being sucked into a very real relegation dog fight. And, my friends, we have fuck all fighters, so its worrying times.
Newcastle will beat us on wednesday, i have no doubt about that. Will we beat Pompey next? doubtful. Hull and stoke to follow in October? They'll cuase us real problems. Right now, we are fucking uselsss. I'm not fickle, i'm real. I can not believe that team can continue to put in performances like that. What does it take to get them bastards going.
Stop their wage, tell hem they are getting not a single penny more until we're in the top half of the table. Anyone agree results with change then?
gutless shower of wankers! (and yes, i'm drinking and the anger is coming out)!

Gomes, Zokora, Woody, Corluka, O'Hara, and Bale all looked OK and Lennon looked quite dangerous when he came on.
We just didn't create much and didn't often threaten to. My mate said "I don't think we're ever going to score and I mean EVER".

We've turned into a feeder club! Campbell sounded like he was the best of our forwards and he's not even ours!
Thanks ODM. (not that I feel any better now, don't think I can stomach the 30 seconds worth of highlights on MOTD!)
I couldn't help thinking how much better we'd have looked with Steed playing. Another GREAT piece of transfer business !

I totally agree, he lloked a real threat on Monday night, and in a game where we need to win today he is dropped to accomodate who? Assou Ekotto at LB? fuck sake Juande, wise up.
Newcastle on Wed is gonna be fun were the only team who are in a bigger mess than they are and that takes some beating!
a partnership like berb/keane does not happen too often, the true seriousness of their loss will be seen next May. mid-table mediocrity or a nerve jangling relegation battle? i'll take the latter, at least it'll be exciting. the team is a shambles, less excuses more solutions please.

O'hara a defensive midfield dynamo or bench warmer?
Dos Santos the Tarrabt with an end product or bench warmer?
Bentley the hard working have a go with your heart on your sleeve midfield driver or bench warmer?
Ramos - get it right this time or were fucked
We need to put out or strongest 11 regardless of our other upcoming fixtures, we nee points on the board.
To me that means Gunter at RB, Corluka (sorry Harry) at CB alonside Woody, Bentley and Lennon on the flanks, give O'Hara a run out at DM with Pav and Bent upfront.
It'll probably be something drastically different with an eye on Wednesdays game....
