Will The Brain Surgeons Please Calm Down

Monday, 22 September 08, 04:58 AM · Comments (232)

The worst start in 734 years and some of the daftest behavour from fans in twice as long.

The Suggestions Box in Lollypop Land has never been so full.

The British press led the charge. The People, worked on the basis staff at WHL were no different to cast members at Eastenders and the moment things got a bit sticky they could simply be repatriated. So now after four games Ramos goes from being a highly respected European manager to on a par with owner of Oz Cabs?

The best of the jests are from within of course. Spurs fans, who can upon request, describe at some length all the predjudices and slights set upon them by Sky Sports presenters can rarely ackowledge that they are the worst offenders of the lot.

'Time to bring in Sam Allardyce!' Was one war cry issued after the Wigan game. I could weep. Allardyce is without doubt an extremely good manager. But one in style almost diametrically opposed to the style and traddition of this club.

Then there are the lost souls. The Levy Out Brigade.

Having failed to successfully convert us before we apparently hit DEFCON ONE, they now wander our lands like Scooby Doo zombies...Talking in tongues of asset stripping and increased seson ticket prices. 'A suitcase full of Sir Alex's money won't score us 20 goals a season, you know'... 'Keane, we need another Keane.... Wooooooahhhhh.'

Get a grip. Sir Alex's new striker can't even get him 20 goals a season - or at least it's looking that way. Keane? Why in the name of God would we want another Piltdown Man on the premises? The genies got out of the bottle. One crawled under a blanket and the other has been substituted more times than Tate & Lyle at a Sweetex convention. Time to exhale, whiners and let it go. Out with the bad air, in with the good.

Close second to the Levy Out mob are the innermost inner sanctom dwellers. Those who know all that we mortals do not. The Comolli Out Brigade.

These chosen few are privy to the minutia of transfer deals that even Levy doesn't get to hear about. Some are rumoured to be working for the CIA as Psyhic Warriors, remote viewers. They KNOW for a fact not only when Damien dropped the ball but how far it fell. His every incompetence is measured for us all by these hyper sentient beings. We are blessed to count them amongst our number.

So what else? Oh yeah, player assassination. Turns out Bentley is utter rubbish. What a collossal and unrectifiable mistake it was buying him. I mean, we could have saved 50p and got Stewart Downing instead.

Let's weigh up the facts for a second. Well, he has one bad game and... No, no too complicated. Let's just say he's sh*t. That's good enough for me - bring me my hangin' rope and let's find us a tall tree.

Jenas. A player who has, let's face it not been consistent at all. But has worked his backside off. Tried and tried and given his all. And as a result really shown some improvement.

No, you're right. Let's tell him not to bother. in fact. Let's boo him. Boo them all. Let's boo some sense into them.

What we'll do is run around like wet hens clucking, 'Are we buying David Villa?' 'When's Huntelaar signing?' and the old classic, 'Will Arshavin and Veloso be unveiled together?'

God forbid we start acting like men an get behind them. Relegation? You sit through a handful of awful games and it's all over. Put your 'only worn four times' shirt on Ebay and sod off. Go on, just go. You've nothing to contribute. Any good cancer wants cutting out and this is your chance to do the honourable thing.

Talk to me about relegation nearer Christmas when stuff like 'mathematics' can be genuinely employed opposed to this third rate, hard done by, fishwifery nonsense.

Hotspur, Alcatrazz. Out.

I agree Ramos, Levy, Bentley should definitely be given time, but you have to admit.... We are shite at the moment!

Why haven't we got a def mid? Ledley looks in pain and pretty poor - why was there no replacement? How are we supposed to "Gel" with a different back four, midfield and strike force every game?

I am confused as to why so many changes are being made to the team, IMHO it is making us worse due to lack of continuity

HOARAY!

Some sense. Jenas, for me has been excellent so far and in a winning team i'm sure he'd be a media darling. Lennon has come on leaps and bounds from last season and Ramos, possibly after reading mine and several other peoples requests, has deployed an excellent Jamie O'Hara in defensive midfield and was my MOM by a country mile. We didn't look classy but we looked a lot more solid, some protection for that back line. Back to basics if you like. Corluka showed promise at CB (bit more speed of thought /action required). Lots to build on. The Bentley booers (you know who you are) were an embarrassment yesterday and you should be ashamed of yourselves. The boy had a mare- no denying that, but once his fitness picks up, he'll be brilliant for us. He looks like an emotional lad so why not give him an encouraging clap when he approaches the corner flag and not shout 'fuck off'? Just a thought. I haven't seen the replays but from the other end of the stadium I could see that it was a pen when Lennon was brought down. We get that and everythings great... no wonder we get tarred with the 'fickle' brush by so many others.

I'm not being naive and saying everything is rosey. There is a lot of work to be done but the only thing that's going to help is training together, playing consistently in the same team and building an understanding... with a bit of support from the real fans. NOT sacking people. Come on, get a grip.

We are playing awful football. So I can understand why someone who has paid fifty quid or more to watch it may feel like booing. I don't agree with it myself; a dignified silence at the end of the game would be more telling. But while the ball is in play the ONLY noises the players should hear are encouraging ones.
As for scapegoats, yeah, let's pick DC. He's French, worked with Wenger and looks a bit strange. Let's not worry what his imput is good or bad - he's just a wrong'un.
Almost as bad as that bald feller,DL. He's only using the club as a property ladder. Bloody developers just scooping up handfuls of cash for nothing. Yeah, I've changed my mind. It must be his fault. But then again, what about the Uruguyan. He was always a bit suspect even when he played for us. Really just a Chelsea spy. Then there's the bloke who can't speak English. I mean how is he going to get the best from players when he can't even tell them if he wants them on the right or left. Or it's all Jenas fault. Let's just boo him. Worked well enough with that fat goalkeeper. He left with his tail between his legs. And as for the two strikers who left us in the lurch after we did so much for them. How dare they move onto another club and double their salaries? Ungrateful gits. I'd blame them, but it will be easier to have a go at some of the newbies. Mexicans and Russians. Can't trust them. An ex-Arsenal player... I mean, do I need to say more. Then there's the one who looks like a gypsy. Or a bloody Scot. Couple of Welsh sheep shaggers. It's bloody obvious why it's the worst start since the dawn of time. No wonder the Ryder Cup team lost when they saw how crap we were doing. It affects everybody. I mean if only the Daily Mail/Sun/Mirror/Express/NoW/Sky Sports/Sentanta/BBC woyuld get off our case we would be top of the league.
Now do I need to encode this in case those effing Martians are bugging my computer. Can't rely on them not to tell SAF so he can plot three points from us. Man ITK!

Well said Harry, booing a team who have already lost their confidence somewhat ain't the answer. I for one didn't boo but clapped at the end of the game - being that I was sat in the West for a change, they may have actually heard the (nearly) lone fan who actually thought a bit of appreciation was due. Maybe not all round but back line - great, solid work. Azza was great when he got a chance, Campbell looks a shining light as many have said, I even thought Bent had a couple of moments where he looked half decent but could not talk to his Komrade up front as he's still lacking the lingo... Midfield and left wing seems to be where we sucked and a few of the lads could definitely pull their fingers out.

We do need to have a little faith, if that game had been at a different time, i.e. if we had a bit of table below us, I reckon we might have taken away a few positives, but really, does kicking a man while he's down really help him back up?

I mentioned t'other day that the Villa beat us as a result of them being better than us. Allow me to qualify my comments further...

Y'see, Randy Lerner knew he was onto a good thing when, for some reason, the FA never employed Martin O'Neill when they realised Steve 'Goldmember' McLaren was available. Now in his first season M'ON finished 11th (I think...Villains please feel free to correct me), which is where we finished last season. There was no knee-jerk reaction from the Randy Yank and a sixth place finish was the result of his patience. Now Villa are second in the league and playing some very good, albeit very simple, football.

Continuity, it seems, is the order of the day and as such Ramos must be given time if we want to be where we all want to be. It's a f*cker waiting for it to happen but them's the breaks people...

Anyone agree?

Long time reader first time poster! Haven't always agreed with you Harry but you speak sense. As a spurs fan the one thing that gets to me most is not the under performing players, it's not the blood hungry media or my arsenal supporting mates giving me stick it's the fickle bunch that call themselves spurs supporters. I'm in this for the long haul and firmly believe that Levy has the best intentions for the Club and is intent on breaking into the champions league elite. In Ramos I think we have a tactically astute manager who can attract some of the biggest names in football to the club. I think we have a young squad who are all realtive strangers and will gel given time. Okay so we have a right to expect more than bottom after 5 games but why cry for change when what we have not had for nearly two decades is some consistency. All the basics are right we just need some patience. If you are not prepared to wait for Glory and back your team through thick and thin then I suggest you go find another Londan based outfit at a different point on the progress curve and good riddance!

The one point I would disagree on is that surrounding Damien Comolli. Not that he hasn't done his job but what exactly is it! He is supposed to be a barrier between the players and the manager in the eventuality that the manager leaves the club he is responsible for the comings and goings. Isn't the system flawed? does this predicate the manager leaving on a regular basis?

Back Ramos give him more say in the transfers bacause it's his head on the block at the end of the day!

I am resolute in my support for Ramos and the coaching staff and I still think this could be the beginning of a long and successful reign at our great club!

Spot on article! I have never boo'd the team or a player and never will, but sadly football is the most supported sport by the uneducated (imagine this happening at a rugby or cricket match?)...

One minor point tho....one of the best ways to succeed is to follow a winning formula such as copying those who have succeeded before you. In my memory, no-one in the english prem has succeeded with a DoF...(and thats not a dig at Comolli, just the post he holds).

To be honest I heard some sporadic, muffled boo's around me but mostly it was the 'fuck off bentley' as he approached the corner flag or a free kick after he'd put in a couple of iffy deliveries that really annoyed me.

Exactly my point- He had a mare but doesn't make him a shit player. Every player has a bad day once in a while. Even Gary Mabbutt's had a bad game, like when he missed a header- once- back in January 1986, but he still scored a hat-trick, kept a clean sheet, saved 19 school children from a flaming bus and was back in the bar to drink everyone else under the table and rescue a drowning puppy on his way home. It happens to the best of us. I'm sure Bentley will be fine.

Absolute rubbish Harry. We are no richer at the back or in midfield then last year and immeasurably poorer up front. We could very likely end September with no league win to date and out of the League Cup. And you think the fans don'y have cause for complaint? This transfer window started with some positive signals and ended with a net investment of NIL, a weaker squad and a sporting director blaming agents for his inability to do his job. Money rules at WHL and the fans are the ones paying the price!

every spurs fan out thinks he knows what the problem's and how to fix it
I think there's a number of factors for the reason why we are not doing as well as maybe we should be
1.to many players coming and going all the time!
2.to many managers coming and going all the time!
3.youth players were are they how many have made it into the first team? 0
to prove my point I would like to draw every ones attention to man-usa and le-arse-nil
top 4 teams for the past how many years? and why well all of the above that's why every thing that we lack
spurs have no back bone all the top teams have
Now what I ask for is for please can we keep this manager for long enough to prove him self please can we stop giving good player to other teams and please can we start getting the young blood that every one else some how manages to produce

OK Harry so lets look at your arguments. But first let me thank you for the space allotted to someone as unworthy as myself and the rest of us lesser mortals to debate an issue with your vastly superior intellect. I also cede that any view we may have is indeed worthless and of no consequence, unless by pure chance it should coincide with your own certified and superior analysis.
Firstly your incisive piece has opened our imbecilic eyes to the fact that the media are actually wind up morons who know didly squat and are only trying to sell newsprint. We truly thank you for this, and I am sure that I speak for all when I say thank you for opening our eyes to this situation that we have completely missed for so long. Brilliant
Secondly you advise us that the Ramos out brigade are a bunch of Morons. Well controversial stuff here Harry Boy. As far as I am aware nobody at WHL or any fans I know think Ramos should go, I am sure we are all grateful that we should be vigilant to seek out the .00001% of those parading themselves as Spurs supporters and test their sincerity. Maybe its just a point to get some sensationalism into the piece? No of course not credible journalism would never manufacture lies to shape a story would it? Would it Harry?
Thirdly Levy Out. Many would agree that Levy has made some mistakes this window and previous, some even have the temerity to accuse him of having an accountant mentality. I think many however recognise that when wishing for new owners one needs to be very careful. You might end up a lot worse off. Having said that I will leave this issue with a two part question. How many clubs in any league in the world that have ambitions to finish in a significant position sold their two best players in the last break and can you explain how the latter strategy is compatible with the aforementioned objective. Discuss.
Fourthly. Clearly we were all under the influence of mind altering drugs for a couple of years. In believing that Berbatov and Keane were actually dam good players, some even had the temerity to say our best players, we were indeed delusional. We know all see how crap they were and totally worthless the 50 goals a season they scored was just a mirage. We thank you for putting us right on this. Only your quality of analysis could have shown us the light.
Fifth. We all indeed apologise for being so stupid as to fail to take on board the immeasurable leaps Jean Arse has made in his time with Spurs. It is there for all to see, if we had the sense to look at what was unfolding in front of our very eyes. His permanent never go missing from a game attitude, linked with his never give the ball away reliability. It is there for us all to see. Forgive our stupidity please.
And last but not least how could any of us be so churlish as to sign up to a Comoli out movement. After all how could the one member of our management team that saw the false need in the requirement for a CB and Left sided winger be treated so churlishly? Clearly he has delivered great benefit to the club by steadfastly failing to obtain such ornaments. We thank him most sincerely. He did the club a great service by marginalising our previous manager and orchestrated a revered change enhancing the clubs stature immeasurably in the process. No we realise now what a key member of our success he has been.
Thanks Harry for showing us the true light as ever

Well said Harry! I see there are one or two souls from the negative camp responding in colourfull style.

When you have 34 odd thousand fans as silent as night for 90 minutes breaking out only to hurl abuse, this can logicaly achieve nothing more than to make matters worse for the presurised players on the pitch.
I sat there listening to the chants of Villa fans last Monday night at the lane as opposed to the Spurs fans trying to raise soem spirits and get behind the team (Yes i know this is very difficult when the display put on was far from what we would want to see after paying a small mortgage for a plastic seat)

It is so frustrating being a yid and yes we are playing diabolical football at the moment, but it does upset me to see and hear the faithfull become so faithless so early on in the season... lets have some faith, get behind the Spurs and not let the gooner Sun reporters get us down!

Some sense. Jenas, for me has been excellent so far and in a winning team i'm sure he'd be a media darling. Lennon has come on leaps and bounds from last season and Ramos, possibly after reading mine and several other peoples requests, has deployed an excellent Jamie O'Hara...

I was at the game and did people boo Bentley? 8O
Yes, he had a mare but what player hasn't? :?

To be honest I heard some sporadic, muffled boo's around me but mostly it was the 'fuck off bentley' as he approached the corner flag or a free kick after he'd put in a couple of iffy deliveries that really annoyed me.

Exactly my point- He had a mare but doesn't make him a shit...

Well I was there too...

Booing: Half time and Full time.

Cheering and Singing: Big long chorus of "We are Tottenham, Super Tottenham..."

Bentley: Mediocre, not the worst player on the pitch, didn't deliver though. In my opinion I fear it may be the free kick trainer, a man who could, before he arrived with us, put a ball on a sixpence, who's now going through a tough time.

I totally agree that I don't get booed at work, I don't get payed ÂŁ40-50k a week. I personally reckon I'd live with being booed for that amount of money and the missus he goes home to. ;)

I think fans are frustrated at the plight we're in, we're passionate than most and like anything else, extraordinary highs, applause and rapture are balanced by the depths of despair and public lynchings. The highs balance to the lows.

I think that the general feeling is not how you describe it Harry, it's the feeling amongst the most vocal people or it's what we want to hear...

What I strongly think needs sorting out, is the Clumps who administer and run the club, the ticketing fiasco's that have happened down the years, the rising cost of the season ticket prices and the general attitude to the average fan.

I'll now probably be slated by yourself and some others, like I was on a previous posting but I thought i'd have my tuppence ha'penny's worth....

What puzzles me is how Ramos impressed me constantly last season when he came in, yet fails to show logic now? Simple things like why play players out of position when you've got other decent players capable of playing there?
Regardless of what anyone says Commoli needs to go. Its pointless having a director of football, its only someone there to undermine a managers decision. The only other club that uses one is Newcastle, and look at the state they're in because of it.
The fact Jenas and Zokora have both been given
new deals is a real worry as someone at spurs clearly sees these two as the future of our club. Zokora is average at best and anybody who still rates Jenas needs his head testing. Though I was glad to see him come on against Villa as his aimless running around at least encouraged our better players to move around and want the ball a bit more.
I think Bentley annoyed everyone yesterday, it was the poorest game i've seen him play and I'd been annoyed before, ramos playing bentley in the hole behind bentley or on the left but yesterday he was on the right. His delivery skills are superb but yesterday they were atrocious. You expect better from such an expensive player who you know can do better.
Also Gio on the bench yesterday? Bale should have gone to Left back at HT and Gio for Ekotto.
Congratulations to Johnny Woodgate and Gomes, If it wasn't for those two we'd have conceded at least two goals yesterday

Great post Harry.

I've been a season ticket holder for 10 years in the east stand upper. Yesterday the fans were more embarrassing than the players. The people that sit around me quite obviously dont know a thing about football. It is actually the fans making want to sell my season ticket rather than the players

In Pavluchenko's first game they were screaming what a waste of money after 15 minutes when he miss controlled a pass. When Gomes let in the Ashley Young goal against Villa (although i know it was a huge blunder), the fans were screaming for a new keeper - HELLO!!! It was because of Gomes we weren't losing 4-0 by half time! Not to mention he has been rock solid other than that!!

At the moment it is the fans that are making me not want to go to games rather than the team. Once the fans stop being so unrealistic in the targets for this season, maybe we can then push on. Once the fans start to support the players rather than scream bloody murder at a player if they make a mistake, maybe we can push on.

When Bentley got subbed yesterday, there were a number of fans cheering as they saw his number come up. I have one message to those people - F*CK OFF AND DONT COME BACK. Your part of the problem not part of the solution. Unless you want to support the team, we dont want you any where near White Hart Lane.

I know im going to get alot of stick for this but Jenas is the biggest unsung hero we have at the club. The poor bloke gives everything he has every game, but constantly gets slagged off. When he didnt start for the Villa game we saw exactly how much we need him. He's the closest thing we have to a ball winner in our team.

Most of the above is a dig at the fans in the East Upper. I sometimes think they enjoy moaning at the team more than seeing the team play well!! It completely and utterly ridiculous!!

In contrast - well done to the fans in the South Stand yesterday. You took upon yourselves to actually try and get everyone behind the lads.

Did anyone here go to the game? The boo boys were in a small minority. At the beginning of the second half, the south and east stand sang and sang and sang for 15-20 minutes solid "we are tottenham, super tottenham, from the lane" it made my hair stand on end. We believe in Ramos and the team, and...

Yeah, was there in the Park Lane as usual, was an awesome quarter of an hour, I have no voice today but was well worth it.
And to ChaosTheory, I can't be bothered to reference my exact reasons and beliefs when it comes to the way one should support ones team but rest assured I want the best for our team. If I think they were crap, after the game I wont cheer and say well done lads, the players know whats required and they know what the fans expect. I want them to know how I feel, they didnt draw yesterday.... WE did. They will be as disappointed as us. Tough love mate, I'm sure the fans booing them wont keep them from sleeping tonight.

Let me tell you something about earning a lot of money - after you have been on red-hot money for 6 months or so then you just take it for granted.

The players aren't going back to the dressing room thinking "Ah well, I was shit today - still, there's always another ÂŁ50k coming my way on Monday, the joke is on you boo-boy!".

And to ChaosTheory, I can't be bothered to reference my exact reasons and beliefs when it comes to the way one should support ones team but rest assured I want the best...

Boo them at full time if you really must - but as the old saying goes, it's a game of two halves.

There was booing at half time and at full time, thats it. Other than that the support yesterday was better than any team in the premiership, even ones that win games! Theres no way anyone could knock our support yesterday, even Steve Bruce was amazed at how good it was.

Is this a joke?

Yes, those "supporters" really did their club proud.

Keep booing PLN, and convince yourself it's ok because a whistle just got blown.

Did you go Chaos?

Awww, you got me!

No, I didn't go, I listened to it on the radio - but does that mean I can't condemn someone for booing at half time?

I'm pleased to hear there was plenty of cheering through the game, why go and spoil that when the team still has 45 minutes to go and...

In all honesty yes, it does mean you cant... because you dont see the 90 minutes of cheering and singing the same person has done. I'll have no one saying a bad word about the fans yesterday. (barring the 1 or 2 who are always there with their own personal vendetta against their chosen target of the week)

Great post Harry.

I've been a season ticket holder for 10 years in the east stand upper. Yesterday the fans were more embarrassing than the players. The people that sit around me quite obviously dont know a thing about football. It is actually the fans making want to sell my season...

I want to sit with you.

I was there yest in the east stand gang 30 right next to the southstand and the noise was amazing in the second half. the "we are tottenham" chant that was so loud and seemed to last forever - that didnt seem to motivate the players at all. (the only boos round me were at half time and full time), jenas was very overratted he gave loads of balls away and didnt track back, ekotto gave a lot away also. Corluka looked twice the player of the villa game (still seems a little slow though) Think Bent was treated a little harsh by some also, he ran around made looking for the ball - all he seemed to get was long punts to his head, not the ball he wants!!

No lets not, because I saw with my own eyes 5000 of the nearest people to myself singing for 90 minutes, then booing them off. Both of which i agree with. Rightly or wrongly. Although, after the initial boo at the final whistle, a warm round of applause was given to both Gomes and Campb*ll, the only 2 players to stay out and clap US!

The trouble with Bentley is that rightly or wrongly, he will have to be dynamite to overcome his Arse connections. I will never boo one of our own players because i see it as fundamentally wrong, however everyone has a right to be critical imho.

Moaning after every underhit corner wont help the lad put the next one on someones head? What happened to a rousing "COYS...." at every corner? what happened to the stamping of feet and banging of seats that went with it? THAT WILL help the cause. Not silence followed "grrrrroan FFS".

Bentley will be fine, get behind him and the others. In his defence there arent many targets to hit when he's poises ready to deliver. In the same way that there probably arent any targets for fear of being caught upfield by a shit delivery. Its chicken and egg, confidence devoid stuff at the moment - hard to watch, just as hard to play anyway. But is there any problem that 36,000 + 11 cant fix on a saturday afternoon? i doubt it.

Pavlyuchenko will come good too, once his team mates understand that hes not going to score goals chasing long diagonals towards the corner flag.

The support was good yet somehow lacked conviction if that makes sense on Sunday, even the paxton made an effort. Booing at half time full time is pretty poor, achieves nothing, if anything probably just alienates sections of the crowd and players. Nunchucks bedroom theory applies here.

COYS

apart from two seasons under the Big Dutch Geezer, the last 25 seasons have followed exactly the same pattern. We get all excited at the start of a new dawn, only to get disappointed that once again our players are not good enough, and we have to endure another mid-table finish. Perhaps a season of flirting with relegation will bring some excitement to our lives.

How many more years will you boys waste your time and money just to see history repeat itself again, and again, and again. To make a mistake once is bad luck, to do it again is foolish, but to repeat it year after year is MADNESS.

Hard facts:

If we do not win the next two home games i.e:

* Sun 05/10 vs Hull City

* Sat 25/10 vs Bolton

The last of which is similar timing when Jol was sacked last year!

Then the Board are very likely to swing the axe on Ramos's head!! And quite right too!!!!

The old saying "you must win your home games for mid table obscurity, and any better results for where you finish in the top 10".

We cannot even win a game!!!

The problem is Ramos picks some strange teams. Zakora at right back??? whats that all about when he have one on the bench who has never let us down. Why is Ekotto still wearing a spurs shirt?? and why did Huddlestone come on yesterday when we were looking for a goal??? He needs to start sorting things out and stop putting out the team with players being played out of position then maybe we will have half a chance. I swear if i see Ekotto & Zakora playing full back again im going to walk out.

Were not the same as Newcastle! They have won nothing in my life time & i'm in my 30's! Also they're a one club City and yet could only get about 10,000 fans when Ossie was manager, oh and two sides of their ground look more old fashioned (& smaller) than Stockport County's (albeit the other two sides hold about 50,000 fans).
Oh and they would have still been in the championship if they did not buy there way out via John Halls cash (in fact I blame Hall & Jack Walker at Blackburn for helping to ruin football in this country!)

OOPS sorry for that booing didn't realise that i'm not allowed to show my frustration at some players who aint giving all for the club I LOVE.
And i best not say anything about that Ramos being a 2 bob jumped up made to measure cnut,
does anyone remember when seville was top of the spanish league with 4 or 5 games to go and he rested 6 players for a uefa cup game?
does anyone remember him not playing Bale in the first game when he was fit?
does anyone remember him resting King after he had a 2 week rest for the villa game?
does anyone remember him not giving players like Bent a chance last season even in games that didn't matter?
does anyone remember seeing him pissed because we have only won 3 games in a year?
The point i'm making is that some things you should be judged on on the above is just that so i'll judge him..
hmmmm...

You pay your money, want to Boo, that's
a personal choice. At the end of the day,
if anyone expects no booing after the dross
served up at the last two home games, then
they must be delusional at best. There will
be some sort of change if things do not
pick up soon, my guess is Wendy Ramos will
be moved sideways at best in the near future.
Reports today Bentley is unhappy, only a
matter of time before player power waves
goodbye to Ramos. Something feels very wrong,
I think a change maybe closer than most would
envisage...

I just look at some of the players we've got and can't help thinking...

Look on the bright side, we kept a clean sheet (even while BAE was at LB).

Corluka looked pretty solid at CB, and his distribution out of the back was really good yesterday and helped start some of the few 2nd half chances we created.

We've still got to get the midfield sorted, but Bale, Lennon, and Bent look much improved. Campbell plays with passion and energy every time he steps onto the pitch.

I think part of the problem with Bentley is his lack of pace, which is really evident when he doesn't have a quality RB supporting/overlapping to combine with on the right side. When is Hutton going to be fit? I agree that his free kicks have been far from good.

BAE gives the ball up far too much to when he goes forward, he's still making the same mistakes as the first game, only he wasn't as badly exposed yesterday.

In general I don't understand why everyone is so down on the team right now. We are fielding mostly new faces from last season, which we knew was going to take time for the team to gel. Why are people boo-ing now, because they've built up unrealistic expectations all summer?

As I'm dyslexic dyspraxic and A.D.D. I can't be arsed to wade through all these posts worthy as they may be.

24 hours after one of the worst matches I've seen us play my feelings have not changed all that much.

It's not that we drew, it's not that we're bottom of the league and it's not that one or two players had an off day. What's getting to me is that we just don't seem to know what to do with the ball, we didn't create many chances, we just didn't look at all threatening.

When Ramos arrived he improved things, we got fitter, we looked up for it, we seemed to have a plan and if the plan didn't work he'd try another one which usually came off.

Where's all that gone ?

Look on the bright side, we kept a clean sheet (even while BAE was at LB).

Corluka looked pretty solid at CB, and his distribution out of the back was really good yesterday and helped start some of the few 2nd half chances we created.

We've still got to get the midfield...

Bent is much improved ?
So you're impressed by the way he can't control a football. His first touch is appalling but on a positive note it helped him mis hit the shot that went in against the West London Wanderers.

Ramos is ineffective this season. Can someone counter that charge and back it up?

At this rate it will be hard to judgement until after the January transfer window. I see no reason why the current group of players in the Spurs squad cannot secure home wins to the likes of Wigan or Sunderland (we haven't even played any of the newly promoted clubs!)

Motivation at the top is lacking and needed more tyhen ever. Players are being played out of position. The teams performance is lackluster, tactical decisions are poor and the supporters are getting more and more despondent.

What course of action should be taken in the near term to correct this grim situation?

Leaving things to "gel" is not what a leader would do in this situation. Things will get worse before they come good.

Something has to change before January.

Once we get Hutton back we've got a back four of Hutton, Woody, Corluka, Bale with Gomes behind that's a pretty good back four. Its in front where the problem is, we still lack that dominating midfielder, an experienced leader (Gattuso?) who won't take any cr*p! a left winger (Capel) and AA to supply the bullets to Pav and help him settle in (I think Pav will be a star if we give him a bit of time, he can't speak the same language as anyone in the club!).

We've made so many changes that it was always going to take time to gel, a bit of patience is required fellow Yids1

Perhaps, the club ought to introduce a new policy for certain underperforming players i.e.

improve their standard of play or be forced to spend the night with Madame de Hotspur!!!!

Whilst we wait for the team to 'gel' From Wikepedia a definition 'A gel is an apparently solid, jelly-like material (Bit like our back four solid on paper jelly like on grass)formed from a colloidal solution. By weight, gels are mostly liquid, yet they behave like solids due to the addition of a gelling agent. So there you have it mostly liquid until a gelling agent is applied i.e defensive take no prisoners midfield leader. January can't come soon enough.

i for one dont want to see any new players now, lets give commolli enough rope to hang himself.
If between Hudlestone, Zokora, Corluka, Bale, Jenas, Lennon, Bentley, Modric and Dos Santos we ant get the midfield right either the manager is shit (not an option) or Commoli is, but thats a debate for another time.
Lets build a stable team playing football the right way (lets keep it on deck eh juande) and who knows, we might just get our spurs back the way we think we can all remember.

The common service he is provided is a long kick from Gomes, after of course the midfield under pressure passes it back to the defense, who then under pressure passes it back to Gomes.

Of course I'd rather have Santa Cruz as well, but you could say the same thing in relation to wanting Santa Cruz instead of Pav or Campbell.

Everyone has seen the poor quality from Bentley to date this season on set pieces, would Santa Cruz somehow have done better with those than Bent is now?

Did you listen to Hawksbee & Jacobs on talksport today? They had an email topic of sayings you haven't heard before or won't hear again. This came about due to Hawksbee's mate saying on leaving the Wigan game 'Titus Bramble had Bent in his pocket' hence Titus Bramble has never had or will again have an EPL forward in his pocket.

I didn't go to the game but based on comments like this and having watched him on TV he is in my eyes an average PL striker. He's got size, pace but little in terms of guile or touch (or general football smarts for that matter). He'll do an ok job, that's why it is so important Pav does well as I can see him being a proper player with a touch of class (fingers crossed!)

What else is there to say, we look rubbish, we're bottom of the league etc etc if's, but's and maybe's are all we have. I made a post earlier and had to reduce the number of hopefully's! just about says it all at the mo.
I just look at some of the players we've got and can't help thinking...

Look on the bright side, we kept a clean sheet (even while BAE was at LB).

Corluka looked pretty solid at CB, and his distribution out of the back was really good yesterday and helped start some of the few 2nd half chances we created.

We've still got to get the midfield...

Bent is much improved ?
So you're impressed by the way he can't control a football. His first touch is appalling but on a positive note it helped him mis hit the shot that went in against the West London Wanderers.

Bent has converted the chances he's been given. It is not his fault he hasn't been provided with any service.

Correction. He's converted three of the many chances he's been given.

If he hasn't been provided by any service how come he's scored any ?

Listen, I agree we are not creating enough chances, but thus far Bent does not look like a top Prem striker. Compare him to Santa Cruz...

I'm just at a loss for what you are expecting from Bent? What chances has he not put away?

The common service he is provided is a long kick from Gomes, after of course the midfield under pressure passes it back to the defense, who then under pressure passes it back to Gomes.
...

Did you listen to Hawksbee & Jacobs on talksport today? They had an email topic of sayings you haven't heard before or won't hear again. This came about due to Hawksbee's mate saying on leaving the Wigan game 'Titus Bramble had Bent in his pocket' hence Titus Bramble has never had or will again have...

I'm in the USA, so I don't get to hear much of anything relating to the EPL.

I'm not trying to say that Bent is a clear No 1 striker on a team, but he's at the very least he's a No 2 striker. He had a good scoring record in the limited minutes he played last season.

It isn't his fault he's being cast as a No 1 striker, infront of a disjoint midfield.

The team has plenty of problems at the moment, and I just don't see how Bent is near the top of that list right now.

knocsucow - the replies were getting too long!

I don't think Bent is a top 6 striker to be honest, he'll do an ok job. I remember him being a supersub for the U21's and maybe he could do the same for us. The big problem is that we've gone from two technically gifted forwards lacking pace to a technically ungifted striker with pace, he's not easy on the eye like the former unmentionables but will do some sort of job in the short term (in my eyes he's better than Defoe as he actually has a bit of size, can win the odd header and actually has pace, oh and he works hard for the team). Other than that we better hope Pav turns out good but he will need time, he looks an ideal lone striker. I do think AA would have really helped him settle and hopefully we can resurrect that deal in Jan (although that would end up being a huge gamble on two Russians especially if Pav hasn't started banging them in)

Long and patient reading of these comments leaves me sad that we even consider booing our shirts as they truck off at half and full time. They are the shirts of our heroes past, present and future - albeit not numbered as days gone by...or days to come. Every one of those shirts (positionally speaking) has been filled with the blood, sweat & tears of past glories and glorious defeats of the club we adore. They have been filled by players with skill undreamed of by lesser lights. Do I need to go through the numbers and the players who have graceed those shirts?
I stood in the Park Lane end and welled up at the support we showed in the second half against Wigan - "We are Tottenham, Super Tottenham..." irrespective of my "non-football intelligent" neighbours' incessant non-constructive abuse. My ticket sharing colleague and I call them Village 1 and Village 2 - idiots in other words!
My favourite blog is now populated by same... happy to employ playground tactics to denegrate the Club. The Club is bigger than the eleven who take to the pitch (they are sold, retire and/or die - but they are rarely forgotten. The fans attend for a period of their lives and pass on the legacy to their kids and etcetera. Nobody remembers them. And nobody will remember you at the Lane you sad individuals!
Tottenham Hotspur do not deserve to be boo-ed by the temporary ticket holders and e-mailers of a 125/6 year legacy of wonderful, wretched, uplifting, depressing, fantastic, deplorable experiences.
You might have had a season ticket for fifty years - but where does it say you may boo the shirt.
Boo-ing makes you sound like americans following a golfer. You are big, big prats and nobody - nobody - really likes you.

Sorry, but you need to see him. Whatever he looks like on the box he's far worse in the flesh. We need to replace two prolific strikers and he is not on the same planet so far.

I would seriously love to be proved wrong about him but that looks more and more unlikely.

Our club should:

* employ English language teacher/s for Ramos and Pav.

* In training work on:

- passing the ball on the ground.
- effective passing build up tactics.
- how to support the player in possesion
of the ball.

- how to vary play
- one / two touch passing
- sprint exercises

* require quadruple gym strength exercises.

* the Board should review its policy on signing too many young players.

* Sack Comoli.

After reading all the way down this thread have actully forgotten what it about....

Anyway, without putting blame on the players I do think Ramos and Poyet have to shoulder the disapointing start to the season. I think it's down to one thing and one thing only. Players being played out of position.. Zakora at right back AGAIN with Gunter on the bench I just dont get it. Blae on left wing and Lennon on the bench.. Ekkouto actually getting a start! The 1 game we started with 11 players playing in their natural postions we did well ergo Chelsea away... It isn't rocket science. This team would win games.
Gomes, Gunter Woody, King, Bale, Huddlestone, lennon, Bentley, Jenas, Bent, Pav. On the bench. Modric, Santos, Cambell,Zakora, Gilberto... Cover in all positions. See, NOT Rocket science !

I did warn about the dangers of getting rid of Keane & Berbatov ( their transfer demands should have been faced down ) and also of getting rid of decent players like Chimbo,Tanio & Malbranque ( ok someone had to go to make way for some of the new blood needed in midfield & defence ) but you then threw a wobbly Harry...(not to mention the duds still on the books like Rocha,Boateng & Ghaly + a few other suspect players on the books ...)
The fact is we've fucked up on transfers 2 summers running - we still don't have a commanding defensive midfielder or a decent left winger & now our previous strength of a decent forwardline is now a liability...We're now just a few losses away from 'Ramos has gone mental mode' and another manager undermined by the way transfer ins & outs are decided over his head. 8O

Great post Harry.

I've been a season ticket holder for 10 years in the east stand upper. Yesterday the fans were more embarrassing than the players. The people that sit around me quite obviously dont know a thing about football. It is actually the fans making want to sell my season...

Nice post King Spur.

You nicely raised the issue regarding self-tagged 'hard-core/die-hard fans' that seem to not understand the meaning of support. I don't get to go as often as I'd like, but whenever I make an effort to (whether just for myself, or with family/friends/clients - to all of whom I have extolled the wonders of Spurs and reverence of White Hart Lane) there is always the loud idiotic comment/insult which I would've assumed had emanated from an ar5ena1/wetspammer/chelscum/other flunky, anything other than a true Spurs fan. I'm even more f*cked off when it's my little niece and nephews who I've brought to see their first ever football match. It's not a recent phenomena - this element is there at every single game, but I want to actually support my team so I try and put up with it.

Thank god I could only watch yesterdays match on telly. I got most of the action, close ups, replays, and the diametrically opposing effects of the "we are tottenham" chants and the boos at half/full time whistles.

I think I would have lost it had I heard a numpty shout what you said they did to Bentley when he was trying to get himself composed for a corner, a goal scoring opportunity.

Further to Henry Percy, HH and others targeting the issue with rowdy away fans sitting in the home support seats, those idiots masquerading as home support should also be shown the door. On the telly I can't work out where the chants originate, but if it was the south stand to start and maintain the 20-odd minute long 'we are tottenham..."- I salute you.

Bruxie /Dave Brookes, are you the same Brooksie I shared a taxi and pint with...

Hi Northern Spur - yes it's me.

Nice One Harry. Agree with everything. The team will come good I am sure. I am a little bit worried by Ramos continually changing the first 11 though; it appears at times that nobody is staking a claim for many positions and may feel unsure if they will start the next game in the same position. Just as we need continuity in management positions maybe we nedd a dose of the same on the pitch. Apart from Bent and Gomes, nobody seems able to predict what team will be picked from a talented squad that lacks cohesion. I would like to see us get a good result next game (barcodes) and stick with the same team barring injuries for a short stretch of games. Worst start in 30 years? Yes, but not a disaster. CL can wait another year. Still heaps to play for.

Up The Lillywhites!
