So Weymouth FC has been sold, or some of the shares in the company that owns the land the ground is on may have been sold.Or something like that.
Some fans are up in arms, some think its the best thing to happen to the club in ages. One thing is for sure, Chairman Malcolm Curtis is ploughing on regardless with his plan to move the club from its current site.
Weymouth is of course the 2012 Olympic sailing venue so land there should have an opportunity to buck the world credit crunch. Curtis remains committed to moving the club to Monmouth Avenue, and sharing with Weymouth Rugby Club. My contacts there seem equally committed to not sharing with the football club.
So we have the status quo. Curtis has transferred the land the club owned surrounding the Wessex Stadium to his company Wessex Park's name. That is a fact. Whether or not you agree with something that has belonged to the football club being transferred to the name of another company depends on whether or not you see Curtis as saint or sinner.
The fact that Monday's press statement is likely to take this a stage further is only going to polarise the opposing camps of supporters. It also gives credence to those who feel that Curtis' agenda is to divide (the club fans) and conquer (shut the club down and have obtained land in time for the Olympic bonanza for little outlay).
One thing the statement was clear on is that the 'good news story' on Monday does little more than keep the wolves from the clubs door. Ernie Battey, the man credited with crippling AFC Bournemouth financially is rumoured to be involved in the plan. He is a property developer like Curtis...
6 of the first team remain on the transfer list, now including star player Stuart Beavon...
It's not like me to come over all drama queenish, but I have one message for the powers that be at Weymouth FC. Please, please, don't get this one wrong... History has shown that mismanagement and personal interest have come before the paying fan of Weymouth FC at various times in the clubs history... Don't make this one of them.
We are playing Kettering today, who are top of the Conference. I suspect they will win.
