TerrasBlog 03/06/08 - " A question of Trust?"

I have been fairly apolitical on the question of the Supporters Trust since day one to be honest. But I feel it relevant to mention the current hot debating topic surrounding the club. The clash between the Trust elections and the Supporters Club trip to Butlins would make a great plot for a sitcom.

You have the Trust on one side, battling to establish itself as a credible line from the fans to the board of Weymouth FC and the official Supporters Club on the other, established for years and a valuable fund raising tool. Oh and they are off to Minehead soon.

This isn't meant as a criticism of either organisation, but the fact that a number of people will miss the Trust night to be in Minehead just makes me smile.

Of course there is a serious side. The credibility of the elections could be called into question as a result of the date clash, but maybe this could be the tipping point and an opportunity for us fans to have a bit of a smile and make the best of what has happened?

It's a clash of dates which of course could have been avoided and of course calls into question the way things have been handled. I accept that. But you must be able to see the comedy in there? Surely?

There is of course a wider question regarding what the Supporters Club and the Trust can offer and whether they can co-exist or will ultimately have to merge.

Trust status gives you so many opportunities to challenge (in an appropriate way) what is happening in the corridors of power at your club. You have access to legal assistance, funding bodies and mountains of experience. In it's early life the Terras Trust has acted rapidly on a number of occasions, apologised for a lot of mistakes and been accused of with-holding information from its members.

They don't need me to tell them that credibility is key and that they need to get it right.

Should the Trust have done something about the ground ownership issue? I will never be privvy to enough information to know...

Can they go forward from here ? I would hope so.

Can they work with the Supporters Club? Yes, but Butlinsgate shows they can do it better.

Should we all be a bit more patient? Probably! but this is WFC after all..!
