TerrasBlog 03/07/08

The typing and spelling of tonights TerrasBlog may well be even worse than usual due to the cat being sat on my lap and me having to type one handed.

Apologies!

Its been a busy day at the Wessex with the new sponsorship partnership between Weymouth FC and a local childrens hospice being launched.

There are of course two sides to the story with this being Weymouth FC and I can see both sides.

With the club having increased admission prices, especially for those of near retirement age, does it send the right message out to then 'give' away the title sponsorship of the team?

I am not privvy to enough detail of the deal. But I have to say that whilst I sympathise greatly with that view, there is an undoubted feel good factor about this initiative. So a cautious thumbs up from me. I hope that both Julia's and Weymouth FC get the right amount of positive publicity (and as importantly revenue and sponsorship) to make this work.

As part of the deal the club has released images of their new away and third kit today.

The away shirt has been speculated on within the very pages of TerrasBlog as recently as yesterday. But here is a proper shot with the new crest on it.

The badge looks funny I suppose, but I am sure we will get used to it over time.

The away shirt, as you can see above is blue. I am sure there will be debate on whether or not this was the one earmarked allegedly to be the home shirt. Its a nice kit as far as I am concerned.

The third kit came as a surprise to me but I am delighted to see that we will be back in yellow at times on our travels.

We won the league in Baldock in a yellow/gold shirt so this one gets a thumbs up from me.

Do we need to have brought out 6 new shirts in two seasons? You will need to ask the clubs new retail manager that when they are appointed. For me it is of course too many. But when sponsors and kit sponsors change that is inevitable.

I would like to see the club give us an idea on how long we can expect these kits to be 'en vogue'. Somewhat like the 'best before' date adopted on recent England shirts.

Finally it was nice to see a signing before we got all sponsor and kit focused! Welcome to Weymouth Chris 'Nanny' McPhee. May you score in a Wembley final win for our club too!!

Ciao for now.
