It doesn't feel like 5 minutes since I was packing for holiday whilst checking Sky Sports News for details of Terras 0-0 draw at champions Aldershot. That point was enough to end months of turmoil, upheaval and stress and ensure Blue Square Premiership status for Weymouth.
Back then we had stomached months of ownership issues (three Chairman/owners in the year), on field misery (battling against relegation for most of the second half of the season), and managerial change (Jason Tindall getting sacked). It wont go down as one of my best campaigns of following the club and that is probably why I never did get round to doing a season review for TerrasBlog...
Quite a few of the issues surrounding the stadium and the club remain and have yet to move on from the end of 2007/08, but there is still something about a new football season which masks problems and fills the common fan with optimism.
And so the club starts its pre-season fixtures tonight with the traditional trip down the bottom of Chesil Beach to Grove Corner to play Portland United.
The club has issued pictures of the new players on its website, such has the new broom swept through the corridors of the Wessex Stadium, this to help identification for supporters who make the short trip.
I am not sure where this season will take us. But with a new badge (forgot to add that to the controversial issues in paragraph 2!), new sponsor, new kit and new players. We can but hope for a smoother and more rounded season.
Let it start tonight and can all at TerrasBlog wish Weymouth FC the best of luck for this season.
