TerrasBlog 14/06/2009 - Death Wish

Sunday, 14 June 09, 02:20 AM · Comments (0)

I have got up early(ish) this morning to get my cycling out of the way before the weather warms up too much. 77 miles is the menu for next Sunday so a bit of light training and rest is the way to go.

I usually log on to the Dorset Echo website, the club website and less so nowadays the forum before heading out, so I can get a fix of Terras news.

And, it would appear that, yet again a civil war is breaking out on the internet between members of the board and supporters.

Has this football club got a fatal attraction with death? Because I cannot see it making next season if the current level of back biting and bitterness continues.

For legal reasons I cannot name individuals but it would appear that both Malcolm Curtis and maybe even Gary Calder still wield some influence over the club via forum posts that attack those currently in power.

Of course, both of these men have reasons to be bitter. They either resigned or were ousted with public opinion having turned against them.

The current board were always going to buy themselves some time by saying that the club was in a mess when they took over. Standard business practice.

But some of the things I have been told would indicate that there is some substance to their claims and that it really will take years to sort Weymouth FC out.

That clearly isn't enough for some people who will not rest until Mr Curtis has all his land, the club is dead and they can say " I told you so".

THE CLUB CAN STILL BE SAVED SO PUT YOUR PETTY SQUABBLE ASIDE FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WHO DON'T CARE ABOUT BOARDROOM POLITICS AND WHO DO CARE ABOUT THEIR CLUB PLAYING FOOTBALL.

Not going into administration so far has proved to be the best thing the club could have done from a community perspective.

Yet again we are at the stage of saying "back it or lose it".

Some people in the town are now telling me to let it go and that the club should be allowed to die quietly and stop embarrassing the name of Weymouth.

Maybe they are right?
