The Dorset Echo has today run a story claiming that Weymouth FC are looking to settle the final year of Marcus Brownings contract in return for him leaving the club.
Browning has a year to run on his current deal (granted to him by his best friend in footballs Father in law during the ten minutes he was chairman (allegedly)) but doesn't feature in Manager Matthew Hales plans at all.
This site has always had a love-hate relationship with Browning and the over-riding feeling here remains that for a big name signing on a big contract he has been a let down. A total let down.
His record on the park for a midfielder who was chased by a number of league clubs when he joined us is poor. He has more red cards than goals and when in dispute with John Hollins he withdrew his services and claimed his wages whilst not actually playing.
Yes he helped Alan Lewer out in the run in last season but I think it is 100% clear that he doesn't want to be part of the new administration (despite public protestations to the contrary) and it will be the best thing for both parties that he departs.
Will he be missed? not by me. For a club that has a long history of bringing in names rather than proven players and managers at the level they are playing at, he is the latest failure.
I wish him luck in his next venture as I am sure there will be a number of clubs who will see past his turbulent time at Weymouth and give him a contract.
