TerrasBlog 23/09/08 - Pressure mounts at the Wessex

Without a win in four matches and with nearly a third of the first team squad up for sale, things are never dull following Weymouth FC.

As posted on TerrasBlog before the season started, what this club needs is a period of stability and a season with only one Chairman and one Manager. You never know, we might still get that, but I wonder whether events over the weekend and yesterday are making that less likely.

The key names in the list of players up for grabs are last years player of the season Scott Doe, and leading scorer Michael Malcolm. The Manager JHMBE was still talking about aiming for the top half of the Blue Square Premier a few weeks ago (before this bad run of form started). If we are going to be selling arguably our best two players, you suspect that vision will soon be revised.

And we are all sensible and adult enough to know the issues surrounding football clubs at the moment. £14 to get in to a match before you have a cup of tea is a lot of money when people are losing their jobs and hearing about tough economic times ahead. Add into the equation that the stadium is out on a limb out of town and your passing social club trade is next to non-existent too.

I do admire the Chairman for trying to get this resolved, but what this week has shown is that action and investment is needed now, as opposed to four years time if the new stadium comes to realisation.

JHMBE is a shrewd operator having worked on this hand to mouth basis at Crawley Town, who ironically we play this evening, and if he remains at the club I am sure he can uncover another Chris Blackburn.

Despite the constant moaning on the forums (myself included, but I am taking actions to address that in a positive way for the benefit of the club) the fans of this club do deserve some good news for a change.

All this talk of "doing a Yeovil" must leave them laughing even more at our expense.

What will happen in the match tonight? I suspect pacesetters Crawley will win, but I am confident Terras will put up a strong performance if they are to lose. Just depends on who is in the team I suppose...
