TerrasBlog 27/08/08 A vision revealed...

Of all the days to have problems with shoddy broadband it had to be today. I still wont reveal who my supplier are but they are utter gash and should hang their stupid heads in shame. The worst insult I can pay them is that I couldn't hate them and their sorrowful crap internet service if they were fans of Yeovil Town.

I suppose I was always going to be in a bad mood after tonights training ride was like something from the middle of winter. The fens were lashed with winds and low cloud... summer eh?

But there is some positive news on the horizon today in the form of the released "Vision Document" regarding the proposed new home of Weymouth FC.

There are, of course with this being our club, so many more questions than answers in the press release but I am keen to accentuate the positives before exploring the things that remain 'woolly'.

For me it makes perfect sense (and I have said this before) to try and get into bed with the rugby club. I think we will see more of the scenario where a university campus type sports facility is most towns and cities preferred option. Put simply it makes more sense to have everything in one place. And whilst Weymouth Football Club can approach the FA and Football Foundation for grants, our dual code co-habitants would be able to go to both the RFU and the RFL for any available monies too.

The re-branding of the football club has come in for a lot of criticism but I think with the Olympic feel good factor in evidence, all but the most cynical of you out there would buy into a Team Weymouth.

Now I am not saying all rugger fans will go to football and vice versa, but there is sure to be some cross over and for me that is positive for all parties. There really isn't a downside to that that I can see.

The club house profits will of course have to be split between both clubs but half of something is better than all of nothing, as doing nothing is simply not an option according to the Chairman.

The first thing that struck me looking at the pictures was that the stadium looked tiny, but as has been pointed out, 4500-6000 is more than sufficient for our needs and why would we want something 20000 all seater which would cost a fortune to run?  I am not 100% convinced by the plans as yet but I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now.

Ok now onto the non-positives. Terras fans are a very protective bunch and the issue of ground ownership will never be far away. A section of the support will never forgive Malcolm Curtis for the way the ground ownership transferred back in March and this issue will remain thorny until 100% clarity is given on this subject.

The second fly in the ointment is the statement from the Rugby Club today where they told the Dorset Echo that they had only spoken to Mr Curtis on the subject but had yet to discuss it as a club.

Have WFC jumped the gun? or have they gone public to put pressure of WRUFC?

I honestly don't know. But there will of course be more that comes out over the next few days and you can be sure we will discuss it on TerrasBlog as we go. For now we must be content with an artists impression of what I suppose we will call for now "The New Wessex Stadium"

Thanks to www.theterras.co.uk for letting me use the picture.
