Boom, there goes my enthusiasm for the new Wessex Stadium complex.
Business as Usual at Weymouth Rugby Club
In view of all the recent statements in the media on the plans for Weymouth Football club, the rugby club would like to put the minds of all members, sponsors and supporters at rest, and
emphasise that it is ‘business as usual’ at the club at Monmouth Avenue.
The club received a short informal overview of the football clubs proposal, two days before going to press. This was the first sight of Mr Curtis’s plans for Weymouth Football Club. On first
inspection, the proposed re-development of the grounds for a new rugby clubhouse fall well short of the rugby clubs existing facilities and Rugby Football Union requirements. The proposed
development also fails to deliver the three playing pitches that the club need. The club holds a long lease for the ground, on which it built its own clubhouse and changing room facilities in
1987.
The club has a vibrant and expanding membership which continues to develop strong community and school links and caters for all players aged 6 to 60.
The clubs mission has always been to provide a community based sports club to promote and develop rugby within the town, and it is through this approach that the club was awarded the RFU Seal
of Approval accredited to Club Mark, the highest award for youth and community sport. We are at present the only sports club in the local area that have reached this accolade and we are very
proud of it as it shows our commitment to our sport and the community.
The whole club are very much looking forward to the new playing season which starts with the First XV seniors, playing away on Saturday 6th September and the mini and youth section enrolment on
Sunday 7th September. All are welcome.
I would like to add a big thank you to W&PBC for their recent vote of support in the way in which the club is managed and all the volunteers who have helped with all of the summer rugby
activities, which included Children’s Beach Tag rugby, Tag Rugby at the club and first prize in the Weymouth Carnival.

Fair play to the rugby club for having the balls to put out a statement on this matter. As a fan of both the round and oval ball I think they are right to protect their interest.
I want to see senior Rugby Union, Rugby League and football in Weymouth.
If there is some disconnect between the representatives of the two shapes of ball, then they need to get their heads together, and fast.
The statement reads to me like the rugby club feels like it is being railroaded into a deal with WFC and that is no basis to start a relationship...
I await ther response from the powers that be at the Terras with baited breath.
