TerrasBlog 22/02/2009 - Weymouth 0-9 Rushden & Diamonds

Sunday, 22 February 09, 11:43 AM

Welcome back TerrasBlog readers. It has been a costly 10 day holiday to Spain as I have been scouring the internet desperately looking for news and views on the club to keep me sane.

This hasn't worked too well and the culmination was the result yesterday against Diamonds at the Wessex.

I am going to cover all of the other issues such as the ownership of the club and the very uncertain future for the Terras in the podcast tomorrow (which will be recorded in the rush hour traffic on the way to Peterborough!), tonight I want to focus on the players both old and new.

Firstly I want to officially thank Stuart Beavon for all of the magical memories he provided during his spell with the club. I was there for his home debut against Northwich and it was one of the few times I have seen a player score and be more excited than me jumping around on the terraces. Wycombe have got a great player there and I expect him to be a success in the football league.

Scott Doe will be missed too as will Chris Mc Phee. It was great to have "Super" Lee Phillips back even for a fleeting period of time. You never know a miracle might happen before tomorrow, but if not I am 100% confident I am not alone in wishing these lads (as well as all of the clubs other players) good luck in the rest of their footballing careers. Thanks for your efforts.

The match yesterday has been covered in great detail in a lot of the media today. The Non-League Paper leading with "9-0 Kids battered" or words to that effect. There is a large amount of lazy cheap journalism surrounding the latest demise of the Terras, and I think it is important to note that the fans of other clubs have been deluging all of the Weymouth FC websites with their good wishes and hopes that we have a future.

From the big boys, Arsenal fans and Newcastle supporters, down to virtually all of the clubs at our level and even further down have all had nothing but praise for the Weymouth fans and their simple reluctance to let their football club die. It is awe inspiring.

When I read on the 'net who would be available to play yesterday I was stunned. You knew what was going to happen, but let me tell you that I have never been more proud of a Weymouth side than I was yesterday. Click here to have a look at the photos of the men against boys... As a Terras supporter to see these youngsters have the balls to stand up and say "yes I will play" makes my heart swell. It's enough to make you laugh at the greed and self interest of company's like Sky who see fit to only mock the Weymouth result showing incredible ignorance of the circumstances that have led to this.

Each and every one of the players should be proud of their efforts and hopefully they will have learnt plenty from it because it wont get any easier between now and the end of the season if they are the team to fulfil our fixtures.

So where do we go from here? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'm not giving up. Nor should you.

TerrasBlog 30/01/2009

Friday, 30 January 09, 12:36 PM

A pretty eventful day for the TerrasBlogger today. I have been having a tricky time getting my head round everything that's going on at the club in the last 24 hours and the frustration and anger that came through in yesterdays post certainly showed how I was feeling.

My mood hasn't been helped by someone (not very skillfully it has to be said) discovering that there is a comments section on the blog and going on the attack against my viewpoint. It's fair to say that in putting my neck on the line and writing TerrasBlog that I don't expect 100% of the readership to agree with what I say. But using 3 different names in two minutes to post abusive comments from the same IP address is not going to defeat me!

One of the people who was impersonated has asked that the IP address be forwarded on. I would hope that they would accept the deletion of the comments as the end of the matter and I would ask that whomever did this refrain from those sort of antics from now on. For me that is subject closed.

I write this blog as a reflection of my moods and opinions on Weymouth FC and whilst I am certainly not always right, nor ever beyond criticism, I am always totally independant and always have the good of the club in mind.

With that in mind I want to make a suggestion.

I am happy to point out that I was contacted by a representative of the club today who informed me that this deal would not mean the end of Rushden & Diamonds and that the intentions of both Mr Hill and Mr Power are true.

And whilst I remain wary (through no fault of my contact at the club I hasten to say) I would like the opportunity to do an interview with the perspective new owners for them to alay my concerns.

TerrasBlog 29/01/2009 - Just when it couldnt get sillier

Thursday, 29 January 09, 01:45 PM

Football is an amazing game isnt it? It can enthrall and entertain you like no other sport in the world...

Some days though it can leave you feeling sick to the pit of your gut. I love Weymouth FC, or at least I think I do, everything is up in the air at the moment.

Even reading the forum in the last five minutes has left me astonished to the amount of comments showing a lack of consideration for Rushden fans.

Let me fill you in if you are late home from work. The Rushden ownership dream team of Colin Hill and Lee Power is carrying out due dilligence on taking over Weymouth FC. It would leave the Diamonds high and dry, but some of our supporters dont seem to care.

Power was Chairman of Cambridge and Colin Hill is the brother of former Terras supremo Garry Hill. If you remember he was going to be the new owner about three owners ago. And then wasn't.

The other amazing news is that if these people don't take over our club we are going to skip administration and be liquidated straight away.

Three or four members of the supporters trust board are alleged to have resigned in recent days... where will it end?

Many fans are calling for support for the new owners (if they are to become new owners). For me it is the fans of Rushden that will need support if their club ceases to exist overnight.

This is the most ridiculous day in the most recent history of a ridiculous football club.

I am gutted.

TerrasBlog 09/11/2008 -Rushden 1-0 Terras

Sunday, 09 November 08, 11:46 AM

Weymouth slumped back into the mid table Blue Square Premier pack after a single goal defeat to Rushden & Diamonds up here in Northamptonshire yesterday.

Having watched a bit of football at Nene Park in my younger days this is the first fixture I look out for every season. So far we have a 0% record in this match, made even worse by the prescence of ex-Terras manager Garry Hill in their dugout. Fortunately cycling commitments kept me away from the match yesterday, but despite the result it appears that I missed a positive and decent Weymouth performance.

How the players are keeping their minds on the job with half of them being up for sale and them not knowing how long the club will be keeping going is a mystery to me. But I am truly greatful to them for not capitulating under the pressure and whether any of them will still be with us by the end of the season or not, I am proud of their efforts.

And I am sure I am not alone in feeling that way.

JHMBE hasn't been mentioned by this blog recently, but it is worth commenting on how both Alan Lewer and he have kept the ship going in a reasonably positive direction on the field whilst playing some decent football. Whatever meltdown is heading our way (and by all accounts it is when and not if) I would like to think that there may be an opportunity for them to continue their good work in the hope that some much needed new investment comes there way in due course.

As for what happens next? god only knows. What am I going to say in the podcast this week? there isnt a lot that I want to say that wouldn't get me into legal trouble.

But dont expect a quarter of an hour of silence, there will be something I am sure.

Until then.

TerrasBlog 08/11/2008 - Ernie must be Battey

Saturday, 08 November 08, 06:25 AM

Another day, another apparent owner of Weymouth FC, or at least the company that owns the land around Weymouth FC.

Confused? you will be. I am just glad that I have been so busy with work that I have been able to keep out of the loop with it all.

Here is the article from the Dorset Echo last night where Ernie Battey outlines his plans for the ground, plans for the club and offers to meet the supporters.

Notice how focused on delivering the Monmouth Avenue facility they all are. The rugby club are not so keen having not been consulted on the plans (which of course fall short of their requirements in getting promotion up the RFU leagues) and have a 30 year lease which they are not looking to relinquish. Something mentioned by potential investor, Dave Higson, formerly of Park Engineering.

Deadlock? Absolutely. What will happen next? who knows but Malcolm Curtis is certainly on a rapid ticket out of the club and whilst we will wait until the need of his reign to complete a full analysis I am sure there will be plenty for people to discuss.

Today we travel to Rushden & Diamonds, home of former manager "I am Weymouth" Garry Hill. I still blame him for the club getting into this messand with Diamonds in a meltdown of their own Hill has now completed a hat-trick of clubs virtually going under with him at the helm.

Well done Garry. Top man.

Will we win? I hope so, but I am plumping for a draw.
