TerrasBlog 24/01/2009 - Outside Broadcast postponed and Beaver fever...

Saturday, 24 January 09, 05:37 AM

Firstly apologies to those of you (and there may have been some) looking forward to the TerrasBlog podcast outside broadcast today.

As you can see from the timing of this post I am still in Peterborough so we will have to do it another Saturday.

There will be a BlogCast this week with the usual content.

The main news of the day surrounds the future of star player Stuart Beavon and the fact that local rivals Yeovil Town have joined the race for the hard working front man

Understandably there would be a large number of Weymouth fans who would be angry at Beaver for joining our number one hated club, but I would appeal to supporters to see the bigger picture.

Let's be clear at the start. I hate Yeovil, the town the people the club. I had to work there for a couple of years and it was terrible. I used to arrive at the Ridgeway on my driver home every night and breath a sigh of relief.

But if you put yourself in Stuart Beavon's position and they come in for him. What would you do?

Despite their current league position, Town are a well run club who generally stick with an owner and manager. And despite having moved to an out of town stadium they still manage to generate income on non-match days (we used to have all of our work meetings there and the catering was great).

Weymouth on the other hand are a total shambles off the park and have more managers than our McDonalds during the calendar year.

You also take into account the fact that our club is still on the brink and it is a no-brainer. Much as I hate to say it, if Yeovil want to take Beavon, he would go with my good wishes. It is too good an opportunity for him to turn down.

I would love for him to stay on the south coast and become a Weymouth hero for years, but deep down I know we can't afford him. We dont have anyone owning the club for god's sake!

I love Weymouth and I love Weymouth Football Club but it has gone so far beyond a farce now it isn't funny.

People still call for the club to come together and for the fans to help put it all right. Most of the long term fans I talk to are utterly worn out by the whole thing and are still planning new ways to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Maybe the loss of Beavon (if as we expect he does go somewhere during January) will be the catalyst to bring everyone back together and working towards the common aim. Losing your best player to your local rivals would be a feeling none of us would want to feel more than once.

Oh and we play Northwich today in the league...

TerrasBlog 25/08/08

Monday, 25 August 08, 02:37 AM

Morning all, I just have a couple of notes to write before I get on to today's blog.

  • Don't drink so much cider and then sleep in the rain in a tent.
  • Dont lose valuable points in a singing contest by changing the words of the Automatic's popular chart hit to "What's that coming over the hill? is it a BEAVER, is it a BEAVER!!!"
  • Make sure that you never watch the X-Factor again, it is woeful.
  • Don't forget today is not a work day and put your alarm on for 0645.
  • Keep ribbing Manchester United fans about how their Nani is injured but our Nanny (McPhee) is a goal machine!

Ok, right on to TerrasBlog. A good start has now become a near perfect start for JHMBE and his side after we beat Lewes 2-0 at the Wessex on Saturday.

Goals from Money Mike ((C) Ashley Vickers ) and the Nanny were enough to beat our visitors when they could be bothered to turn up.

We Weymouth fans are a cynical bunch but at the moment it is very difficult not to walk around with a little smile on our faces. Hell I even laughed at 6-0-6 on Saturday when a Yeovil fan was waffling on about how they drew with Leeds. He went on to congratulate their ex-goalies Brothers appearance at the Olympics... did he win a medal?

No, Weymouth won gold !!!

Another example of our superiority :0)

In fact there shouldn't be any dark clouds on the horizon at all... But then I look at todays fixture list and (on, no it can't be!!) Forest Green Rovers...

To say their our bogey team is like saying David Laws was good. They seem to p**s on our bonfire all the time. If my memory serves me right, on our last games on the money fueled Harrison era was a defeat to the, and of course the home reverse last season will live long on the memory of those unfortunate enough to witness it.

My TerrasBlog prediction is a low scoring draw. I would take that and it would keep the pressure on the leaders of the Blue Square Premier. And who'd have thought we would be saying that a month ago?

Forza Terra-Cotta.

TerrasBlog 09/08/2008 - Here we go!!!

Saturday, 09 August 08, 07:15 AM

And so the waiting is less than two hours away from being over and season 2008/09 is imminent for Weymouth FC and the other members of the Blue Square Premier League.

With "Money" Mike becoming the last part of the John Hollins jigsaw (apart from a possible keeper to cover for the struggling Danny Knowles) we now have the players in place to try and ensure we preserve our status just outside the English professional football league.

I can honestly say that when the postman arrived with my new home shirt this morning (and free scarf - a nice touch WFC) it hit me just how much of an investment both financially and emotionally following a football club is. I am approaching my third decade of Terras support and I am still as excited and anticipation filled on the eve of every season.

Financial challenges still plague our club, as they have throughout my support, but you know what I wouldn't trade supporting Weymouth for Manchester United for all the money in the world. I have used the blog extensively to portray my anger at the greed and self interest of the Premier League and will continue my campaign against cash fuelled football as opposed to the game of the man on the street this season.

Money is tighter generally and it will result in the bubble bursting and the man on the street getting his football back. I am sure of it.

Of course your Arsenal's and Chelsea's will always be richer than Weymouth, but supporting the Terras makes you richer in other ways and the final whistle at Nottingham Forest will remain the greatest moment of my footballing life. Truly memorable.

So what of the current Weymouth vintage then? Its far to early to say but we have a very difficult start to the season with Oxford and Stevenage coming up quickly on the rails of Grays Athletic today.

My prediction for today ? 1-1

But those of you who remember my predictions of old on TerrasBlog will be going to the match certain now that there will be a result one way or the other!!!

Whomever you support, enjoy the season and may your dreams come true.*

*These good luck wishes do not apply to supporters of Yeovil Town FC.

TerrasBlog 02/08/2008

Saturday, 02 August 08, 02:03 AM

Morning Terras fans!!! It is that time of year when thoughts turn to the start of the season and the quest for three points.

But this being football in our part of Dorset, things are never quite that easy. Rumours have been circulating after an article in this weeks Western Gazette over the future of a club that could be going to the wall for the sake of just £1000.

Not only is that a ridiculous amount of money to lose a football club for, it just shows how mad the upper echelons (loving that word!) of the game are if the fat cats can watch a club potentially die for such minimal debts.

For once this isn't Weymouth FC involved, but our near neighbours from over the hill Dorchester Town. And despite an intense local rivalry between their club and ours, I would not want to see them cease to exist at all, let alone for such a trivial debt in todays society.

If the story is completely true and has no journalistic embellishment then it is very sad and I wish them well in their quest to get it sorted out. Eddie Mitchell, their owner, is not everyones cup of tea and the similarities between us and them are not just geographic with him also being a property developer. But taking all cynicism out I hope they get this fixed and that they safely take their place (albeit undeserved!!) in Conference South.

And you know what? That's the difference between us and other clubs fans. We have stared down the barrel more than once and survived (and remain surviving), so I would like to think that all Weymouth fans have that ability to see the bigger picture and wish that clubs stay in business even if it is their local rivals.

Compare that to those scummers we are playing today and the contrast couldn't be greater.

There is one who lives in my neck of the woods now. And on the day our club died he was on a local football forum laughing his arse off at how "little Whymuff" were dead in the water. When I tried to respond by asking about the many decades of history our club had, including many great battles with his own team and why he wouldn't miss that rivalrly, he said he didn't care and that the day we ceased to exist as a club would be the best day of his life...

So JHMBE or whoever at the club may be reading this, today is no friendly for me. I don't like being laughed at, certainly not by Yeovil fans. It was hard enough having to work their all those years ago when we were cheated out of the Trophy by a blind official not seeing a blatant handball. This match means something and will always mean something to me. I hope our players and officials and supporters feel the same.

I may be in London today watching Arsenal - Juventus (scouting for JHMBE!!) but thanks to the legend that is Sporran I will be in possession of the score come the end of the match. I wait with baited breath.

COME ON YOU TERRAS!!!

TerrasBlog 30/07/2008

Wednesday, 30 July 08, 03:06 PM

Another brief foray into the world of blogging tonight. I have been bike racing for the first time in a few weeks and having just got back I am desperate for a cup of tea!

It went ok though, although I must admit to being a bit nervous having a number pinned on my back after a bit of time out of the sport with work commitments.

In fact, it has been a positive 24 hours all round. Success on the bike and success on the field for Weymouth FC who returned to pre-season winning ways with a come from behind victory against conference rivals from last season Exeter City

The Grecians fielded ex Weymouth players in their line up in the form of Steve Tully (Legend) and Richard Logan (lazy tosser) and took an early lead before Anton Robinson notched.

With the match looking likely to peter out into a draw it was "Nanny" McPhee who bagged us a winner.

A good result against a good side in a valuable workout. Well done the lads.

Off the field and JHMBE has used the Dorset Echo to appeal for more fans to turn up against Yeovil on the weekend. I hate the Glovers as much as the next man, but I think it is a bit odd for the manager to be appealing for people to turn up for a friendly.

It will get the doom mongers pressing the panic button of course. If we need people to come to a friendly the wolf must be at the door again. If this is not the case then I would prefer JHMBE to use his rallying call to get people down for the Grays match. Points are more important than local pride, and much as I would love to batter the scummers 10-0, I would take a defeat if we beat Grays

Some of our more astute readers will have noticed a variety of internal links cropping up on the site in recent blogs. This is at the behest of Ole Ole, our host, who like the links being used to showcase some of the many, interactive pages they have on their platform.

Please use them and update the information on each page as you would with a wiki. I have done a little bit to the Terras page but feel free to help me out and add some pictures, player profiles etc for our readers around the globe.
