TerrasBlog 04/10/08 - Weymouth 3-2 Eastbourne Borough

Saturday, 04 October 08, 03:53 PM

Just wanted to get the blog done during half time in the extraordinary match going on between Barcelona and Athletico Madrid at Camp Nou.

Barca were three up in 9 minutes and it is 3-1 at the changeround...good stuff.

This has been a rare wall to wall sporting Saturday for me with the house to myself. I did go out this afternoon to see Peterborough vs Bedford Athletic in the peanut hugging and then took in the Superleague grand final.

My sporting highlight of the day remains PJ's last gasp winner for the mighty Weymouth at home to Eastbourne. It was crucially important to get our home form going again and this result will hopefully do just that.

Despite conceding their customary early goal, Stuart Beavon and Chris "The Nanny" McPhee ensured that we took a half time lead.

Borough levelled it up and with the match looking like ending in a draw it was nice for us to be the benificaries of a late late goal.

The league table is mental though, a week or so ago we were on the verge of the drop zone, now we are two points from the top 5. The important thing for us to remember is that there is still a long way to go this season and we need to keep collecting points.

Ok on to other admin type stuff and entries have now closed on the "Beat the Blogger" competition. Thanks to those of you that have entered, I will notify the winner shortly and get their Anton Robinson England shirt in the post.

The other thing that was noticed today was that Asda are sponsoring the backs of Terras shirts.

Whether this was just for the day or, more likely ongoing, I have no information on at present. After the article in the press regarding confusion over the Julia's House link up it is surprising to see this logo just appear!

Why are Asda sponsoring us? Guilty consience over their many failed attempts to buy the Wessex and set us up in a new stadium I wouldn't wonder...

Forza the Terras (but I have to go as the second half is starting).

Not True News 30/09/08

Saturday, 30 August 08, 05:22 AM

Weymouth FC has launched its own competition to rival that of TerrasBlog.

Of course, the blog is running its first "Beat the Blogger" since 2003 challenging you to send us photos of you in Weymouth shirts at world landmarks.

You have to be beat mine which is of me holding the Champions League Trophy in the Nou Camp, Barcelona

 Send your entries to mailto:jimmythecuckoo@hotmail.com

Awesome... anyway on to the Terras official contest which is called.

"Where's Marcus?"

Yes they are challenging you the supporter, to find out what has happened to Marcus Browning's player contract.

You will need skill and cunning to complete this adventure having to unearth a series of clues from the Wessex Stadium up to Dorchester Road and down to Monmouth Avenue. You will need the skill of Thierry Henry and the composure of Jose Mourhinho.

The prize is a mars bar from the ground caterers which beats the Anton Robinson England shirt we are offering as our prize (in value at least!!!).

So which competition are you entering?

TerrasBlog 30/06/08

Monday, 30 June 08, 02:25 PM

Hi all, hope everyone is well and happy.

I hope that the irony of yesterdays posting wasn't lost on many of our regular readers. The beauty of being on the Ole Ole platform is that it is a world wide community of football fans, linked via blogs and forums. Sadly some of our Spanish chums took my post too literally and I have had some correspondence telling me how the photo is staged and Thierry Henry wont be joining Weymouth from Barcelona.

So I hope that clears it up for all of you.

Just in case you were in any doubt.

To be honest I would have thought that the Spanish nation would have had better things to do yesterday instead of abusing the TerrasBlog by email, but hey ho. I must admit to having watched very little if not none of the European championships, but whilst in Spain last week I did join in their celebrations on beating Russia.

As the fireworks went off around me (literally!) and the mopeds hooted their horns, it made me take a moment to wonder about if England were ever fortunate enough to get to that stage of a tournament. I am not the biggest fan of the England team usually, but my heart hurt as I thought of how much I want us to win a European Championship or a World Cup.

Maybe then the fan will get their football back. When you get players in the Premiership saying they have to think of their retirement plan when putting in requests for 400% pay rises and the people on the street are paying more than ever to watch them, it makes my stomach turn.

But to be fair this culture exists even at our level. And below. I know of players on three figure weekly wages in our local league (the 8th tier of English football) who move clubs three or four times a season for an extra fiver here of there. Its bullshit.

Anyway rant over.

A couple of things to mention in upcoming TerrasBlogs. Firstly the finishing touches are being made to the "Beat the Blogger" competition (although I am still trying to source a prize if anyone can help!) and I will be working on getting more of the shirt gallery transferred over from the old site.

Tomorrow's update will have a reaction to the latest signings the club has made and a bit more of a Terras specific round up.

Until then...

Not True News 29/06/08

Sunday, 29 June 08, 03:32 AM

Weymouth FC have swooped for Barcelona striker Thierry Henry in a move set to shock the footballing world.

The Catalan club met with a representative of the South Coast minnows (ok it was me, Terrasblogger) last week to thrash out the deal that will see the best player in Premiership history join the Terras initially on a one year loan deal.

I got to grab a few seconds with the great man outside the Nou Camp where he was understandably delighted at leaving Barcelona for a proper coastal resort with a proper harbour.

"I have heard St Albans Street is a bit like Los Ramblos, so I will be happy with that. I also can't wait to link up with Stuart Beavon who I have heard great things about."

The talismanic Frenchman added.

" I want to follow in the footsteps of great Terras strikers of the past like David Laws, Steve Claridge and Paul Adcock"

I think he meant Lee Phillips...

TerrasBlog 20/06/08

Friday, 20 June 08, 02:33 PM

So that day has finally arrived and TerrasBlog is off on its summers holidays to Espana tomorrow.

My home shirt is packed ready for that comedy photo opportunity at the Nou Camp where I will be posing in front of their trophy cabinet bedecked in the colours of Weymouth FC.

I am sure the Catalans will have more important things on their mind (like signing Adebayor for example, not sure how they will feel about Spains performances in the Euros, but we will keep politics out of it ) than some loon in a BSP teams jersey invading their stadium !! :0)

So not much more to say than there will be a full round up of the news and fixtures when I get back.

Stay safe and catch you in just over a week.
