TerrasBlog 02/01/2009 - One out, none in...

Monday, 02 February 09, 01:17 PM

Despite assurances that no further members of the current squad would be sold during this transfer window, Weymouth skipper Anton Robinson has joined local League Two side AFC Bournemouth for a small fee.

Robinson joined the Terras from the Exeter acadmeny during the Martyn Harrison meltdown period and despite a shaky start has been consistent and solid for the club.

Gary Calder had been quoted as saying no further player movement out would be happening on advice of the prospective new owners, but it would appear that the lack of wages over the last week might have tested Robinsons patience to the extent that he made the decision to leave.

Calder himself is expected to move to Cambridge United later in the week if the deal to bring Colin Hill and Lee Power to the Wessex goes ahead. If it doesn't the club will cease to exist.

Sources in Peterborough are saying that Hill is looking to move POSH out of London Road to a new stadium (he owns the ground) quicker than his original timing, which may free up more cash to invest in the Terras.

His relationship with POSH Director of Football Barry Fry has led to rumours that out of favour defender Shane Blackett could be heading to the South Coast on loan.

He would follow Ashley Vickers, Lee Phillipott, Bradley Thomas, Wayne Purser and Richard Logan as recent former Peterborough players to pitch up at the Wessex.

TerrasBlog 05/12/2008

Friday, 05 December 08, 02:05 AM

Remember remember the 5th of December, its a month after bonfire night.

Quick round up today as I have to be somewhere... and it isnt say here at my desk!

TerrasBlog has been made aware by a number of correspondents that the vitriol towards Eddie Mitchell over the potential merger of Weymouth and Dorchester may not be directed 100% towards the right person.

A source north of the Ridgeway has confirmed what many of you may already know that the driving force for a merger is coming from closer to the Wessex than we would maybe like to think.

I honestly dont know what to think about the whole thing anymore. I am just saddened that it has come to this.

This all comes on the back of a big match away at Ebbsfleet tomorrow. I suppose we should be greatful that even in our times of crisis that we didnt sell our soul in the way that club has. Purchased by inquisitive fans £30 at a time and run over the internet, it seemed such a good idea when people had money to throw around like that... Now of course their uptake rate is down and we can all see how that will end up.

Will we win? who knows... hopefully as it will make us more likely to get some decent investment from outside the area if we are perceived as a successful on field club.

We all remember the example of Peterborough United. They were made to look silly in the Ron Atkinson documentary but a wealthy businessman took pity on the League Two strugglers. And look where they are now?

TerrasBlog 02/11/08 - Kettering Town 0-1 Weymouth

Sunday, 02 November 08, 03:57 AM

Weymouth belied their off the off the field problems with a stunning performance to beat the league leaders Kettering Town by a goal to nil in Northamptonshire yesterday.

The Poppies went into the game top of the Blue Square Premier and on the back of a long unbeaten run. Home fans will point to the fact that ex Sheffield Wednesday and Peterborough United player Guy Branston was red carded before half time, but it was a match that the Terras were competing in before the sending off.

It was left to super-sub and late goal machine James Coutts to bang in the winner with three minutes remaining and sending the travelling fans wild.

For once on a Sunday morning, and despite the implications of what may or may not happen to the club tomorrow, Terras fans will be enjoying their coffee... Apart from this one who is just off out in the drizzle cycling training :0(

More on the press conference at the Wessex tomorrow and then the blogcast will make its appearance (new jingle and all) on Tuesday.

Is it me or is anyone else starting to warm to the blue kit now?

Thanks to our jingle writer (Brummie Terra), he has now opened his own Weymouth FC website and here is a link to his report from yesterday.
