TerrasBlog 15/08/2008 - Bad memories

Friday, 15 August 08, 07:42 PM

Terras fans will be delighted to hear that I am not making the short trip down the A1 to Stevenage tomorrow.

After the last two shambolic results at Broadhall way I am glad to report I am off to a birthday party in Bristol.

I suppose it would be harsh to call the 1-0 defeat under Garry Hill a shambles. We played ok in September 2006 but just didnt look like scoring. Our nemesis Allan Julian putting in his annual fine display between the sticks against us in that super tight orange top.

Last year was pretty poor under Jason Tindall with us never getting going an at the time I remember thinking we had done well not to get absolutely murdered about 6-0.

Maybe I am the curse. Who knows.

The simple fact is though that our start to this Blue Square Premiership season has been so impressive that another couple of weeks unbeaten and our horizon may have to be lifted from that of survival.

I think if I am being honest, and this is no disrespect to JHMBE, Alan Lewer or any of the players, we should finish around the top 10 positions but no higher. A decent FA cup run would be nice too. A win at Oxford last season was the pre-cursor for some terrible performances and results so how we respond tomorrow will be key.

I am zero from two with my predictions so far this season and whilst I would love to see us get a draw I can't see Stevenage continuing to be so bad. An honourable defeat is my prediction.

But make no mistake about it, this will still have been a great start for our club this season whatever happens.

May the best team on the day win...

Oh and do I need injections as I am going so close to that Somerset border tomorrow? :)

TerrasBlog 13/08/2008 - Oxford United 0-1 Weymouth

Tuesday, 12 August 08, 09:44 PM

Sometimes history can repeat itself!!!

I found myself writing earlier about how we grabbed a win at Oxford last season in a time when we really needed it. Times aren't so desperate at the moment but a win is a win!!! I will take beating Oxford any time as they are the Conferences biggest club.

I have a new superstition which is that I don't listen to the Solent online commentary any more. It was cursed last season and in fact it was the Oxford match last term that I turned off hoping that would be a change in fortune. And it was (sort of).

So no Jonny Cantor (if he still does it!!) for me, it was Ed Chamberlain and Sky Sports News for me tonight.

And so far so good for this method this season. My celebrations were a but mute when the goal clicked on the ticker at the bottom of the screen. Simply because I felt it was too early for a side like us to score and defend for the remainder of the game. Thankfully I am nil from nil with my predictions.

Stuart Beavon scored against the local side of his youth and no doubt this will start another round of transfer rumours for our longest serving player.

I was thinking about this during the last few minutes of the match and much as I love "Beaver" I would also love to see him go on and play league football. The Coca Cola league deserves a player of his agression and skill.

Don't get me wrong. Option number one would be for him to make it with Weymouth, but I think we are all realistic enough to know that we might be a while in making that leap!!!

So it's a great start to the season for Weymouth and a tough match at the weekend against Stevenage who lost against tonight to Eastbourne.

A draw or better there and we will have surpassed my expectations for the first week.

Good times and a mate of mine would say!!!

Finally just a word for my local village team Yaxley who you will all know I have a soft spot for. Their FA Cup campaign starts this weekend against Lincoln Moorlands at Leading Drove. So if there are any Hunts Terras not going to Stevenage (and if not why not!!) get along for the match.

TerrasBlog 12/08/2008

Tuesday, 12 August 08, 07:51 AM

Morning TerrasBlog fans. I am sitting here waiting for the builders to come to TerrasBlog towers for the final part of their work on the place. Not sure much will be happening. As I look out of the window there is rain pounding off the pavement and the foundations of my new castle out the back are flooded...

I suppose I should stop waiting for builders that wont be coming and get to the office... but before that of course, todays TerrasBlog. And of course weather permitting, this evening we will be taking on Oxford United at the Kazzam Stadium.

This is, naturally, a massive fixture as Oxford remain the biggest club in the Conference. It was a fixture that back in January saw Jason Tindall's last win as Weymouth Manager secured by a Gavin McCallum strike.

Lots has changed for our club since then but having listened to that match in its entireity over the internet, we will need that level of spirit and dedication once again to get a positive result.

Confidence in the Wessex Stadium outfits players should be high after the weekend, but as JHMBE said at the fans forum, its about taking one match at a time and even then worrying about what you are doing as opposed the opposition.

I must admit to having no steer whatsoever on this match and having predicted 1-1 on Saturday and being completely wrong I am going for a scoreless draw tonight. Yes 0-0 is the TerrasBlog prediction for tonight.

Right let's have a look out of the window and see if it has stopped raining...

Nope. It has got harder :(
