More Transfer Rumors

Monday, 21 January 08, 11:19 AM

It’s Monday and that could only mean one thing…more transfer rumors.  The Cottagers are close to sealing the deal with another Norwegian international plus a South Korean striker.

Starting with the Norwegian, Fulham are close to signing a deal with striker Erik Nevland.  Nevland played for Roy Hodgson when Roy was the head man at Viking FC.  He’s scored a ton of goals for his current club, FC Gronigen and apparently Roy feels Erik will be a nice fit for the club. Not sure how I feel about this seeing as how I never watch Norwegian soccer but at this point, it can’t get any worse at the Cottage, so, whatever.

Roy also seems impressed with South Korean striker Cho Jae Jin. He currently plays for Shimizu S-Pulse. He’s been having trials at Craven Cottage for the past week. I guess other European clubs have shown interest in the past but S-Pulse seems to want to hang on to the guy. Not sure this deal will happen.

I’m still waiting to hear about the situations with Marlon King & Eddie Johnson. Marlon failed a physical and Johnson has a hearing apparently this week to find out if he can get a work permit or not.

Should be another fun week. Remember, the FA Cup replay with Bristol is tomorrow. From what I’ve been able to gather, there is no TV coverage in the U.S., so I’m going to have to follow a match cast from work or something.

Rumor: Brad Guzan To Fulham?

Friday, 18 January 08, 10:09 PM

Source: Try Gol

As a proud member of “Sam’s Army“, I always enjoy watching the the U.S. National Team in action, whether it be the Men’s or Women’s team. The only thing that sucks is, the nats only play like what, maybe 10-12 matches per year…sometimes less. Well I guess it’s a good thing I support Fulham FC because more and more, Fulham is becoming the U.S National Team. You hear people refer to Fulham as “USA FC” or “Fulham America” and to a certain extent, I think that bothered me a bit because usually there were negative comments associated with it. But now I think I’m becoming proud to hear such things said and if the rumor I first read this morning in the comments section of THIS POST is true, there will be another U.S National joining the Cottagers.

According to the New York Times, Fulham may be interested in Chivas USA’s talented young goalkeeper Brad Guzan. Brad is currently with the U.S. National Team and is expected to start in goal versus Sweden tomorrow night. The rumor is, Fulham is offering a $2.8 Million Dollar transfer fee to MLS for Guzan and that scouts will be in Carson tomorrow night to watch him in action.

Now before you get too excited about this deal, I believe if Eddie Johnson was having work permit issues, then Guzan will probably have them as well. I can’t be sure, but I’m guessing EJ had more USA caps last season than Guzan did.  Would I love to see this happen? Sure, he’s a talented keeper and I feel Fulham would be a good fit for him. Now he does have mental lapses at times, so that would need to be corrected, but he’s young and has much room to improve.

If he is signed, I’m going to assume that Kasey Keller would probably end up being let go at the end of the season. I think Keller should finish his career in Major League Soccer anyways, so it may be time for that to happen.

I love the transfer season and everyday the rumors get more and more interesting.

Johnson To Be Signed Today?

Friday, 18 January 08, 10:07 PM

Source: Try Gol

We’ve all been in a state of limbo this week when it comes to Eddie Johnson being signed to Fulham. Some people felt that perhaps Johnson was just being used as a bargaining tool to eventually land Marlon King from Watford. I’ve also read where the hold up has to do with Eddie obtaining a work permit, which would make sense because if I remember correctly, Clint Dempsey had a bit of a hold up last season for similar reasons.

Well today I checked out the Daily Mirror and it was mentioned there that Eddie Johnson would be signed for a 2 million pound transfer fee and work permit issues were being worked out. So I suppose the bottom line is, It looks like there is a very good chance I will get my wish and Eddie will join best buddy Clint at the Cottage.

"King" of the Cottage?

Friday, 18 January 08, 10:02 PM

Well if at first you don’t succeed, try…try…again. Fulham & Watford have finally reached an agreement on the transfer fee of striker Marlon King.  The price? 5 million pounds (sorry, don’t have the cool “pound” symbol on my computer).  Apparently the striker will soon get a physical and must work out a deal with the club. I think it would be a stretch to think he will be in uniform this weekend versus Arsenal but could be ready to go by the Bristol FA Cup replay on Tuesday.

Marlon is a good striker, so thats a plus. He’s scored quite a few goals for Watford since 2005. It should be noted that I once transferred him to the Chicago Fire when playing FIFA 2007 on my XBOX.  So hell, I like the guy.

I hope Fulham still signs Eddie Johnson though. Who knows, this may  have killed off that deal. Oh yeah, Collins John is apparently going to Watford on loan with this deal.
