Lionel Messi, a key figure in FC Barcelona's march to UEFA Champions League glory last season, has more to celebrate after collecting the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year prize at the UEFA Club Football Awards in Monaco. The Argentinian international was also selected as Best Forward while team-mate Xavi Hernández took the Best Midfielder trophy. Manchester United FC's Edwin van der Sar was nominated Best Goalkeeper and Chelsea FC captain John Terry completed the honors list as he received his third Best Defender gong from Paolo Maldini.
Messi had scored Barcelona's second goal – his ninth of the 2008/09 competition – in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United in Rome, as the Catalan side became the first Spanish team to lift the Liga, Copa del Rey and European Champion Clubs' Cup titles in one season. If the headed goal from Messi that capped his sensational campaign was a collector's item, his presence on the scoresheet was more predictable: the 22-year-old struck 38 goals in all competitions last term.
Messi succeeds Cristiano Ronaldo as the Club Footballer of the Year and is the second Argentinian international to land the prize after Fernando Redondo in 2000. "It is an enormous joy to be able to receive such an important award as this," he said. "And it's also a pleasure to be able to thank all the people who voted for me and who decided I should get this award."

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great summer. Please bear with the current color scheme of the site. I am in the middle of making a new layout for this half of the season, and if it looks anything like the layout for the VfB blog, it will not disappoint! ;)
So, on to business. Today, we are inducting a youngin' today into the Hunk HoF. (Hall of Fame, if you couldn't guess.) Anyway, today, we are looking to former German champions VfB Stuttgart for today's Hunk. So, may I present to you the latest hunk....Stefano Celozzi!!
Young Stefano here was born on November 2, 1988 in the town of Günzburg, Germany. He is of Italian descent....(if you couldn't guess from his name.)
Celozzi started his professional career with Karlsruher SC, making his first appearance on 10 August 2008 in the DFB Cup 2008-09 round 1 against SpVgg Ansbach. He made his Bundesliga debut on 16 August 2008 in the opening fixture against VfL Bochum.
July of this year, he moved to Stuttgart.
There isn't much about this youngin' that I could dig up, but according to the profile of the official VfB Stuttgart website, www.vfb.de, his hobbies include cinema (going to the movies) and journeys.
If anyone else finds more about Stefano, I would love to know!! :) A pic of a potential WAG would reek of awesomeness (my inner WWE fan coming out).
That is it for now. I am getting ready for bed, so nighty night! :D

While his players are either on
holiday, scoring goals in international matches, or rehabing a bad knee, VfB Stuttgart manager Markus Babbel has hit the books and has gone back to school. Why? Easy! He has to go back to get
his full coaching license at the at the Hennes-Weißweiler-Academy in Cologne. Babbel, who is from Munich has been working with 23 others including Christian Ziege and Dirk Lottner.
The course is being led by former Aalen, Pfullendorf and Reutlingen trainer Frank Wormuth. During his time on the course, the VfB team boss will be staying at a local hotel and then travelling between Stuttgart and Cologne by train (as shown to the left). As part of the training, a ten week internship is necessary, which the European Champion from 1996 will be able to serve at VfB Stuttgart. During his absence, training for the VfB first team will be taken by Rainer Widmayer and new coach Alexander Zorniger, who has come from Normannia Gmünd.
"I'm completely convinced that our players are motivated enough themselves that it won't make any difference if I am absent from training on one or two days of the week," explained Babbel on the effect of his double role as trainer and student.

First off, I want to say thank you for the few couple of people who have followed us on Facebook. Thank you!! <3
You are probably thinking two things. A) Why is there something VfB in the main blog and B) why the hell am I up at 4:30 am!? Well, both lovely questions. I am up right now because I can't sleep. I have a lot of thinking I have been doing so far on my summer holidays, and I already want to go back to school. Why do I have something VfB here? Because I love Serdar, that is why!! :P Anyhooooooo, to the story. :)
For many of the VfB players, the summer break began directly after the end of season party in Amici last Saturday fortnight. The German internationals were away in Asia last week and have now also finally begun their very, VERY well deserved holiday, while a number of further internationals are currently away on duty for their respective countries. The rest of the squad are enjoying the break, with the exception of defender Serdar Tasci, who is in Stuttgart working on his comeback from a knee injury. The German international is currently undergoing a diverse program in the gym and on the pitch at the club. When asked to comment about it, Tasci said,
"I'm doing well. I'm going through my schedule daily,"
The 22 year old has time off soon but he would dearly love to be joining his team mate Sami Khedira at the Under 21 European Championships in Sweden instead.
"I'm going on holiday in the next couple of days. I'll unfortunately have to watch the championships at home in front of the television but I'll have my fingers crossed for the lads."

Hello my fellow female hunk lovers! Very sorry for the lack of time spent on the blog. I have been terribly busy trying to finish a 7 page Chemistry packet and work with the blog and try to understand said Chemistry packet. Also add the fact that they have blocked the site for good. :( It really sucks. :( I mean, I can see why it got blocked for me and Stacey (Torres1), but seriously…OLE OLE IS NOT A PLACE FOR PORN! IT IS FOR FANS OF FOOTBALL AND FOOTY ONLY NOT CRICKET! I mean, I do get my kicks with watching KP, Broad, Bell, and Jimmy, but NO MORE FREAKIN SPAM PLEASE!
Anywho, for the hunk of the day. I have had a number of requests for this following hunk. So, ask my fellow female footy fans and you shall receive. :) Please welcome into the hunky brotherhood, Serdar Tasci!!!
Young Serdar, according to our friends at Wikipedia, was born on my half birthday (April 24th). He is currently 21 years old, and he was born in Esslingen, Germany. He is of Turkish descent, ( I mean, just look at the name and you can pretty much figure that one out. ;) ). He played for the youth teams of SC Altbach, of Stuttgarter Kickers and, from July 1999, of VfB Stuttgart. Before the 2005–06 season, he joined VfB Stuttgart's second team, playing in the Regionalliga (third division). Prior to 2006–07, he was promoted to the club's Bundesliga side. He had his professional debut on 20 August 2006 against Arminia Bielefeld (3–2 win), in the second game of the season, being brought on for injured Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson in the 68th minute. His first goal followed only a week later, in the next game against Borussia Dortmund (1–3 defeat). Due to his Turkish descent, he was eligible to play for either Germany or Turkey, but in October 2006 has decided to pursue a career for Germany. He had his debut for the Germany national under-21 football team on 6 February 2007 in a 2–0 win against Scotland and went on to make his senior international debut for Germany on 20 August 2008 in a friendly match against Belgium in Nuremberg, which they won 2–0.
As for the WAG, I couldn’t find any pics of a WAG on his official website, so if any of you out there can help me with that, it would be AWESOME!

First of all, I want to give a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my older sister Kelli! She is turning the big 2-4 today! Happy birthday chica!!
Now, to today's hunk. (No, Stephanie, it is not Serdar Tasci). This new hunky gent plays for the same team as your beloved Serdar though. So, without further hesitation, let me present to you, the latest person to be introduced into the "hunky brotherhood."
ROFL! This one was amazing! lol Thank you Steph for finding this one for me. :D
May I present to you Mario Gomez! Mario here was born on July 10, 1985. He is a German footballer of Spanish descent.
In 2004, he played for 10 minutes for VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League in a game against Chelsea on 9 March and made his debut in the Bundesliga on 8 May.
In the 2004–05 season, playing for the Regionalliga side, he scored 15 times in 24 games and was to be capped eight times in the first team.
In the 2005–06 season, Gómez joined the first team permanently. He played 30 times in the Bundesliga, scoring six times at this level, his first goal coming on 17 September 2005. The striker also played five times in the UEFA Cup, scoring twice, and in three times in the League Cup.
In the 2006–07 season the youngster established himself as one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga. However, he broke his hand on 10 March 2007 and suffered a torn ligament in his left knee. He made his comeback on 12 May 2007, and immediately scored after coming on from the bench. In that game, VfB Stuttgart defeated Bochum (3–2) and went two points clear heading into the Bundesliga's final weekend where they won at home against Energie Cottbus, thus becoming German champions. Furthermore, VfB Stuttgart also reached final of the German Domestic Cup, where Gómez participated, but VfB Stuttgart lost to 1. FC Nuremberg. After the season, he was named German Footballer of the Year for 2007.
In July 2007, Gómez extended his contract at VfB Stuttgart until 2012. (TAKE THAT BAYERN!)
While, in the 2007–08 season, the rest of his team struggled to keep performing at their 06–07 season standards, Gómez remained at an astonishingly high level, scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances, second in the Bundesliga's Top Scorer list, just behind Bayern Munich's Luca Toni who scored 25 times. In the cup he actually scored the most goals of players. Because of his recent development, many big clubs have been interested in the 23 year old forward. Gómez has recently gained the nickname “Mr. Zuverlässig” (lit. “Mr. Reliable”), as seen in his second of three goals against Bundesliga rival Werder Bremen (final score 6–3), where he managed to net in a virtually unreachable pass by teammate Yıldıray Baştürk.
Gómez has both German and Spanish nationality, but played for all German youth national teams from age 17.
He made his debut for the German national team against Switzerland on 7 February 2007. Germany won the match 3–1, with Gómez scoring Germany's second goal.
Gómez gained his second cap for Germany, coming on as a substitute for Kevin Kurányi in a Euro 2008 qualifier against San Marino, scoring two goals that contributed to a final 6–0 victory.
Joachim Löw called Gómez up to the German squad for Euro 2008. He played in all three of Germany's group games and was largely disappointing as he failed to recapture his club form and contrived to miss several seemingly straightforward chances (including missing from only three yards out with an open goal in front of him against Austria). When the knockout stages began, Löw decided to play with just one striker up front, thus relegating Gómez to the substitute's bench. He later came off the bench in the final of Euro 2008 for Miroslav Klose but couldn't prevent Germany from losing 1-0 to Spain.
He currently DOES have a WAG that a recent interview said that he would love to start a family with.
Mario and Silvia. :D
A big thank you goes out to our friends at Wikipedia for all the typed junk. I am sick with strep throat, so I am not feeling the best. :(

WOOOOO! Wow! Welcome back the "ever so popular" hunk of the day post! :D Today's hunk comes to us from the country of Germany! :D WOO!
This is Sebastian Rudy! Seb here was born on the same day as my bf (who, happens to have the same first name too! :D). Seb will be turning 19 on February 28th! He plays for the German giants VfB Stuttgart. Seb here though is going through a rehab session...(for lack of a better term)... to strengthen his ankle that he hurt in a training session back in November of 2008. He joined the VfB academy in 2003 and started his senior career in 2007, playing for the reserve team. This last summer, he signed his first real professional contract with the team and he played his first senior match on August 10, 2008 in the 5:0 win against Hansa Luneburg. He is currently a member of the German U-18 squad.
His father's name is Claude and he has 3 brothers and 1 sister.
