Abramovich and Villa add to families

Wednesday, 19 August 09, 01:11 PM

David Villa and his wife Patricia González are celebrating the birth of their second child, a daughter named Olaya.

Olaya was born yesterday, August 18th, weighing just over 3 kilos. The Valencia website has confirmed the happy news.

To know David, is to love him - especially when you see him with his older daughter, Zaida.

Congrats!!

It's hardly going to put a dent in the billionaire's finances. But he may well be on his way to raising his very own football team as Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich is set to become a father for the SIXTH time.

The 42-year-old's Russian girlfriend, fashion designer and socialite Daria Zhukova, is said to be six months pregnant with their first child. A source said he and Daria - better known as Dasha - 28, are 'ecstatic and excited' at the prospect of becoming parents. Abramovich and Dasha, who have been dating for three years, discovered she was pregnant following a holiday in the Caribbean. Roman, who already has two sons and three daughters with his ex-wife Irina, broke the news to close friends and family last month.

A source told The Daily Mirror: 'They have been dying to tell people the good news but wanted to make sure everything was OK.'

As yet, the couple do not know the sex of the baby, which, friends say, will be born in Moscow and will be brought up a Chelsea fan. The source said: 'They are both ecstatic and excited and can't wait to raise a child together. 'Dasha is so petite it's impossible to notice she has a baby bump, even though she is six months gone.' Mr Abramovich's spokesperson said: 'We don't comment on personal matters.' Roman met the daughter of Russian oligarch Alexander Zhukova at a New Year's Eve party hosted by her father in 2006. But apparently romance did not blossom until he had split from second wife Irina.

Their divorce ended in a record settlement rumoured to be £1.5billion made by Abramovich to the mother of his five children. Former model Dasha heads up her own trendy fashion label, Kova & T, and is a regular on the art scene. She was recently made editor of style magazine Pop and her first edition is due out on September 1. In September, she opened The Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture, a gallery of contemporary art in Moscow

Dasha's father is a billionaire who was arrested in Italy years ago for arms smuggling to the former Yugoslavia and spent six months in a Turin jail. He now owns one of the largest villas in Sardinia where he spends six months a year.

(Source Daily Mail, thankies!!)

Chelsea Striker Says "Adios."

Tuesday, 18 August 09, 11:40 AM

Werder Bremen have re-signed Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro on a permanent basis.

The Peruvian, who played for Bremen between 1999 and 2001, spent last season on loan with the club.

Pizarro impressed for the Bundesliga outfit, scoring 17 goals en route to helping them finish 10th in the standings.

The 30-year-old has played for Chelsea in pre-season, but failed to make an impression on new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Pizarro was omitted from Ancelotti's squad for last weekend's 2-1 win over Hull City in their season opener.

WANTED: New WAG for Lamps + Terry with Lamp's ex

Thursday, 16 April 09, 02:18 PM

Hey everyone! Happy Thursday! ONE MORE DAY! Oh, I love Fridays! :) Anyway, I need to give a BIG thank you once again for the ladies at Kickette for this. Enjoy.

A few of the Chelsea boys have been seen out at the London clubs this week: Michael Essien and Didier Drogba headed to Funky Buddha on Tuesday night, and Frank Lampard hit up Boujis.

Earlier that night, Frank had gone for dinner with his dad, Petr Cech and Henrique Hilario. Reports say a “mystery” brunette was also in attendance.

(John Terry had din-dins separately at Zuma with his wife Toni, and Frank’s ex, Elen Rives.)

For those unfamiliar with this London hangout [Boujis], the bar closes at 3am.  Frank exits the club (through the back door) at 4am.

What was going on for an hour in there? Did he have a large champagne tab to settle? Was he trying to clean yet another unidentified stain off his trousers? Did he have a few overseas calls to make and took advantage of the early morning time difference?

What we do know, is that there was an interesting assortment of ladies making their way out a different exit of the club five minutes before Frank left. This small gaggle of girls were not terribly thrilled to have their photo taken. (please, see below)

Granted, this may be meaningless. In fact, we suspect one of them may have been on the bar staff. But still. Frank was not in that club alone.

In summary, we have no idea what went on in there.  But regardless, we would like to give this unsolicited advice to the single ladies out there who love Frank Lampard: get yourself to London post-haste. And bring your best micro-mini.

Liverpool Eliminated Night Before Memorial for the 96

Wednesday, 15 April 09, 08:11 AM

Hello everyone, Happy Wednesday!! Last night was a very emotional night for the Liverpool faithful. Last night's dramatic match at Stamford Bridge ended 4-4 with Chelsea winning 7-5 on agg. This led to today.

Collectively they've become known as 'The 96' but to the families and friends they left behind, they were simply a dad, a son, a brother and a sister; a cousin, an auntie, an uncle and a grandad; a boyfriend, a husband, a soul mate and a best friend.

As a letter written for the official Liverpool website by the wife of one of those supporters who never came home so eloquently put it, 'To the world my husband is one of the 96, but to me and his children, he was always our number one.'

Today, as Liverpool Football Club and fans everywhere mark the 20th anniversary of the disaster, Liverpool's putting faces to the names who, to those who didn't know them, only exist as a list etched into the Hillsborough Memorial marble.

24,000 tickets, 23 turnstiles, 2 criminally overcrowded pens, 96 dead, 766 injured, 20 years ago today - numbers alone don't even begin to tell half the story of a disaster that has shaped Liverpool Football Club and the fans that will forever follow it.

Probably the most significant number in this whole sorry tragedy is the one that depicts the age of each victim on the slide show below.

That number, and the faces staring back at you - captured during happier times without a care in the world - tells you everything you need to know about why the events of April 15 1989 and the fans who died that day will never ever be forgotten.

For more coverage of the 20th anniversary, please visit our friends at www.liverpoolfc.tv

I think that I speak for everyone in the footballing world when I say, "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Liverpool v. Chelsea (UEFA Champions League) Live Blog

Wednesday, 08 April 09, 02:06 PM

90' (+4): There goes the final whistle! No late heroics from Liverpool and Chelsea win it 3-1!

90' (+3): Alonso tries his luck from distance! And his effort forces Cech into tipping over for a corner!

90':  Three minutes of added time to be played....

89': Chance for Lampard! He's through! But Reina is out quickly to smother the chance!

87': Chelsea win another corner... Ballack threatens to get there at the near post, but Alonso turns it behind for another!

84': Chelsea are just sitting back now... all they have to do is not concede and they'll be firmly in the driving seat for the second leg...

80': Ten minutes left... have Liverpool got any of their famous late spirit left

79': More changes afoot now... Babel on for Lucas and Anelka on for Drogba

78': Chelsea threatening to grab a fourth! But Drogba's clipped ball across towards Malouda is headed against his own keeper by Dossena!

75': Liverpool make a change now as Aurelio is replaced by Dossena.

74': Fabio Aurelio goes into the book for a poor challenge on Kalou...

71': Malouda brings Reina into action with a low shot from the edge of the area! Chelsea are buoyant!

70': What an amazing turnaround for Chelsea... remember, they fell behind to that early Torres goal, yet lead 3-1 now

68': Liverpool react by bringing on Benayoun and taking off Riera...

67': GOAL! DROGBA! 3-1! The Ivorian finishes off a lovely Chelsea passing move to put Chelsea firmly in the driving seat! It's Malouda's final ball into the middle that Drogba slides home! Amazing

63': You would have thought Liverpool would have learnt from the first goal... but they clearly hadn't... Benitez will be very upset to see his side concede like that.

62':  GOAL! IVANOVIC AGAIN! INCREDIBLE! FROM A CORNER AGAIN! It's an identical goal to his first and Chelsea lead 2-1! Terrible marking from the Liverpool defence

61': Typical Terry that, but the ref isn't impressed and he brandishes a yellow card once Terry picks himself up off the turf!

60': The ball falls loose in the penalty area from the corner! It's going Reina's way, but Terry refuses to give up and he goes into the challenge head first

59': Skrtel miscues a clearance and Chelsea have another corner! Lampard to take it again... Ivanovic is up there...

58': Alonso fires a trademark long ball out towards the right... but it's poor for once from the Spaniard, and the ball flies out of play.

57': Lampard then gives away a cheap corner with the kind of no-look back pass championed by Bruno Alves against Manchester United last night

56': Ballack gets his head to a Lampard free-kick... he directs it on target, but it's easy for Reina to deal with

53': TORRES AT THE OTHER END! Oooh! He blazes over the bar, in much the same way as Drogba did in the first half...

51': DROGBA! OFF THE LINE BY CARRAGHER! Aurelio's mistake lets Drobga in... Skrtel makes a challenge, but credit to Drogba, he stays on his feet before scuffing his shot slightly... that allows Carragher to race back and clear off the line!

50': The ball comes back to Gerrard, who runs along the edge of the penalty area before letting fly! Wide of the mark, but Liverpool have started the second half well.

50': Gerrard swings in a corner, but it's headed clear by Essien.

49': Riera takes on Ivanovic down the Liverpool left... and the Spaniard wins a corner!

47': Free-kick to Liverpool early on... Aurelio sends it in... but no one's there to meet it...

Half Time: Well, this is good-bye for me for now. I will be back as soon as I can to bring you the second half. (I am at school and we leave in 5 mins.) So, I will be back as soon as I can. :D See you then.

45' (+1): There is the whistle! Here at Anfield it is 1-1. Fernando Torres opened the scoring for the Reds and then Branislav Ivanovic leveled it to make it 1-1. In the other match, wow! This is going to look like the score line after the Poland-San Marino match. It is 4-0 at the Nou Camp. Lionel Messi has scored twice (9, 38), Samuel Eto'o (12), and former Arsenal man Thierry Henry (43) have made it 4-0. Bayern will need a miracle to have any chance to come back.

45': Just one minute of added time to be played at the end of the first half.

42': We are approaching half time here at Anfield and it seems that in Barcelona, yes, they have scored again! 4-0 and it isn't even half time yet!! Thierry Henry finally gets his name on the score sheet. WOW! Both matches today have been so exciting.

40': While I have a minute here, lets take a look at some scores from the other matches playing today. In the Scottish 1st Division, Celtic and Rangers are both winning. Rangers are 3-0 up on St. Mirren while Celtic is 1-0 against Falkirk.

40': What a wonderful, exciting first half here at Anfield.

40': Oooh! Kuyt with a great chance to take the lead for a second time straight away! But Cech comes out to make a superb save and deny the Dutchman! What action!

39': GOAL! IVANOVIC PULLS CHELSEA LEVEL! From the resulting corner, the Serb shakes off Alonso and gets in between two defenders to head home! 1-1 now!

38': UPDATE!! Barca has just scored again to put this match in the bag before the first half. Lionel Messi has scored again. One more and he has got the hat-trick for the night.

38': Lampard now wins a corner after his shot takes a deflection behind! It comes out to Kalou, but just won't quite sit for him... and his extra touch allows Gerrard to come across and make a challenge!

37': Essien and Gerrard go up for an aerial challenge together... the latter hits the deck but despite the crowd's claims of foul play, the ref waves play on...

35': ARBELOA! Oooh! Not a bad effort from the right-back! He cuts inside before sending a curler with his left foot just wide of Cech's post!

33': Arbeloa is penalised for a challenge from behind on Malouda, who tumbles to the turf theatrically...

32': All I have to say so far is that this has been so entertaining to watch and experience. :D WOW!

32': Kalou gets the first booking of the night, for kicking the ball away...

29': Oooh! Drogba again with a great chance which he fluffs! Ballack plays the ball into him.... his first touch is good but his shot flies over the bar!

27': Oh dear, Lucas blazes well over the top from the edge of the box... he can afford to smile about it though...

26': Ooooh! So close from Torres! Lampard gets caught in possession... Torres cuts back inside before launching a curler towards the top right corner! Reina is beaten, but the ball flies just wide of the mark!

25': Chelsea win a corner now... Lampard to take it... headed clear by Torres of all people.

25': Checking up on our friends in Barcelona, they are currently in the 25' and it is 2-0. Lionel Messi scored in the 9th while Samuel Eto'o put one in 3 minutes later. Bayern really need to step it up. Barca manager is the only one with any card right now. He has been sent to the stands.

24': Malouda senses a shooting opportunity! He pulls the trigger but he drags it across the face of goal and wide of the far post!

22': Alex sends a blockbuster of a free-kick straight into the Liverpool wall... wouldn't like to have been on the end of that one.

20': Kalou is back on... he's going to see how he goes for the next few minutes...

19': Lampard finally takes the free-kick but it's straight into the wall... his second effort isn't too much better and Carragher emerges with the ball.

18': Kalou has stayed down... it doesn't look good... he's twisted his ankle and hobbles off... he's looking at possible ligament damage.

17': Kalou is caught by Aurelio as the Ivorian threatens to break through the Liverpool back line... free-kick to Chelsea.

15': Oooh! Lampard is nearly played in... but Drogba takes the ball on his chest instead of letting it through to Lamps... and since the Ivorian is in an offside position the flag goes up. Lampard, for the record, was not offside.

13': Alonso spreads the play brilliantly to Kuyt on the right... but the Dutchman's cross is poor and easily cleared by the Chelsea defence.

10': But here comes Torres, after Gerrard wins the ball with a strong tackle! But the Spaniard lacks support and eventually the attack peters out...

10': Chelsea have responded well to going behind... they're on the front foot and looking for an equaliser...

8':  What a start to the game! Great chances at both ends, but only Liverpool have taken theirs....

7': OOOH! DROGBA WITH A GOLDEN CHANCE TO HIT BACK STRAIGHT AWAY! Terrible mistake by Aurelio gives the ball to Kalou who plays in Drogba one-on-one with Reina! But Drogba can't capitalise and his shot hits Reina in the chest before bouncing away to safety!

6': GOAL! TORRES OPENS THE SCORING FOR LIVERPOOL! Kuyt does really well to play in Arbeloa on the right... he centres for Torres, who cracks a first-time shot from around the penalty spot past Cech! 1-0 to the hosts!

4': Ivanovic takes a throw for Chelsea on the near side... the Serb isn't usually a right-back and Liverpool might be able to take advantage of that...

3': Skrtel and Carragher come up for it... the ball falls to Kuyt! Oooh! He catches it really sweetly... it takes a deflection and the ball flies just wide of Reina's post!

2': Liverpool now playing the ball around nicely... and Torres wins a corner off Cole!

1': Chelsea kick-off and immediately go on the attack... the ball bounces through to Reina, who fluffs his kick somewhat... but Chelsea can't capitalise.

Liverpool v. Chelsea (Match Facts and Match Preview)+Laporta's Message to Kaka'

Wednesday, 08 April 09, 08:31 AM

Here are some pre-match facts for the today's epic clash between Chelsea and Liverpool.

  • Liverpool have met Chelsea in each of the last five seasons in the Champions League.
  • The team drawn at home in the first leg each of the last three meetings in the knockout stages has been eliminated.
  • Liverpool have won seven and lost none of their last nine Champions League home matches.
  • Liverpool have played Chelsea 22 times in four and a half seasons since Rafael Benitez arrived on Merseyside, winning seven and losing nine.
  • The Reds have won home and away against the Blues in the Premier League this season.
  • Fernando Torres has scored four goals in his four appearances against the Blues.
  • Steven Gerrard has scored seven goals in seven Champions League appearances this season.
  • Didier Drogba has scored in his last three Champions League matches.
  • In the previous eight Champions League encounters between these two sides only one has seen more than two goals, and only two more than one.
  • Chelsea have been caught offside in the CL more than any other team so far - 36.
  • Liverpool have taken and scored the most penalties in the competition so far, three.

There tends to be signs of when spring has arrived. Warmer weather, leaves on trees, the premature appearance of an occasional, dubious pair of shorts, and red meets blue in the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition.

The two English rivals have clashed in the Champions League in every campaign since 2004/05, with three of the always-closely-fought ties coming in the semi-finals, while 2005/06 saw the sides meet in the group stages.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting at Anfield, Liverpool enjoy the edge from previous meetings, recording two semi-final victories to Chelsea's one, while the two matches in Group G ended in a pair of uninspiring stalemates.

Chelsea, though, hold the most recent bragging rights after sending five-time competition winners Liverpool packing in the final four last term as home advantage in the first leg again proved a decisive curse.

The side who plays in front of their own supporters in the opening meeting has gone on to lose the tie in the three semi-final clashes and, despite this season's encounter arriving a round earlier, Liverpool will be wary.

Rafa Benitez's side's prowess when competing in continental competition on Merseyside is legendary, and the Spaniard - who has challenged captain Steven Gerrard to carry his recent run of electrifying form into the tie - is determined to make that factor count.

However, Chelsea's temporary boss Guus Hiddink, the third Stamford Bridge counterpart Benitez has cross swords with in Europe following Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant, is a past master after winning the cup on penalties with PSV Eindhoven in 1988.

The Dutchman, who maintains he is set to return to his sole job as Russia boss at the end of the season, also highlighted the Champions League as the most likely possibility of silverware after replacing the sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari in February.

Hiddink will be boosted by the news that crucial Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is suspended, but the announcement that Gerrard has been passed fit will come as a bitter blow.

The Liverpool captain was substituted in the closing stages of Saturday's Premier League victory at Fulham after complaining of a tight groin, however, he is set to resume his potent attacking partnership with Fernando Torres.

Chelsea have declared striker Didier Drogba fit following concerns of an ankle injury, and the West London outfit will be hoping for a similar performance to the one-man army that the Ivory Coast international produced in last season's semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge, which came after personal criticism from Benitez.

But Portugal full-back Jose Bosingwa will miss out as the defender has yet to recover from a hamstring complaint sustained on international duty.

Kaka's future in Milan

The Brazilian playmaker was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City in the winter transfer window and his future continues to be a subject of speculation.

Real Madrid are understood to be interested in securing his services this summer but Laporta believes he would be better off remaining where he is.

"I would be happier if Kaka stayed at Milan," Laporta told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He is a world-class player who would do well anywhere, but I would advise him not to leave Milan because they are a great club."

Former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard has been tipped to take charge at Milan if Carlo Ancelotti leaves and Laporta thinks such an appointment would benefit the Italian club.

"Frank is one of the best coaches in the world," said Laporta.

"He would do great things at any club, especially at his former side Milan.

"Severing our ties with him was the hardest decision I have made during my tenure and I almost cried when we said our goodbyes."

Anyway, STEP testing in about 10 minutes, so I will be off the blog for a little bit. Match preview and more to come later. :D

My Verdict: New Kits for Big 4

Wednesday, 25 March 09, 01:53 PM

Hello everyone! Once again, I would like to thank all of my amazing readers for making my last post a featured one (it's a new record for me...) hahah Less than an hour. Anywho, for this post.

The "Big 4" have released their possible new kits for next season. Here is what I think of them.

First up, Arsenal

Hmm, I really don't know what to think of this one. I like the colors, but I don't think that I am digging the fact that they have green kits... I just don't know yet. Maybe I will warm up to it when I see Aaron and Robin playing in the rain with it on. ;)

Score: 7/10

Next, Chelsea

I love the colors! I always have liked the colors of their kits, but I think that I would stick to the black ones. :) Also, the whole ribbing and whatnot, get rid of it. It's UGLY!

Score: 6/10

Next, Liverpool

I LOVE IT! Awesome! I love it! It somewhat resembles the Germany kit. I will have to make sure to add that to the shopping cart.

Score: 10/10

FINALLY, THE UGLY! Manchester United.

Manchester United has a different shirt sponsor for next season. They got rid of AIG. So, brace yourself.

Home Kit...

I like the whole retro look, and I am sure that Cuntiano can pull this one off, but I doubt that the Rooney or Berba can....

Verdict: 6/10

Away Kit

Oh dear god... the whole lace up thing is HIDEOUS! I don't think that even Ronny and Rooney wouldn't want to be seen in this.

Verdict: 2/10

So, what do you think?
