Photo Special--VfB at the Cannstatter Wasen

The remaining VfB players, the training staff, Executive Representative for Sport Horst Heldt, President Erwin Staudt, executive director Jochen Schneider and a number of club staff made their way to the 'Cannstatter Wasen' on Wednesday evening. The Klauß family of publicans extended an invitation which VfB was only too happy to accept.

The Dinkelacker party tent, packed with some 3,000 VfB fans, was well filled on the arrival of the VfB representatives, and as the president, team, and trainer took to the stage after dinner, the volume in the marquee rose distinctly.

Firstly though, the VfB delegation enjoyed an evening meal of chicken, 'Maultaschen', 'Spätzle' and plenty of other local delicacies, along with a cool litre jug of Dinkelacker beer. The atmosphere amongst the VfB gang was wonderful as always and some of the crew were even able to take advantage of the two-for-the-price-of-one offer on jugs of Dinkelacker beer on the 'VfB Wasen Day'. Having tanked up on food and drinks in the beer tent, the VfB team joined presenter Holger Laser and were greeted on the main stage by rousing applause.

VfB president Erwin Staudt made a short speech, addressing the club members, before fan representative Peter Reichert, fired on by VfB mascot Fritzle, got the beer flowing as he undertook the honours of tapping the first keg. Just two swings of the hammer from the 1984 German champion were enough to get the party started. Georg Niedermeier and Ludovic Magnin took the brunt of the beer shower which ensued whilst Serdar Tasci & Co. prepared to be interviewed on the main stage. The players were of course only too happy to sign some autographs for the fans before heading home from a very successful night out.

Hooray...our Lehmann looks a bit tired! Very good for him, that someone will fly him back home to Starnberg (near Munich) with the helicopter...
