Bye Bye Annus Horiblis Hello FA Cup

Saturday, 03 January 09, 03:50 AM · Comments(6)

As we move towards our first game of 2009, I'm sure all Arsenal fans will be agreeing with Wenger in that we are glad to see the back of 2008.  While the changing of a calendar year does not spell silverware in some mystical and magical way, the fact is that we'd have to go pretty dam low to have a worse year than we did last year and todays match against Plymouth in the FA Cup should give us a winning start to the year.  While we all know this is the FA Cp and anything can happen (Wrexham anyone?) we should have more than enough to move through to the next round in what seems to be our only realistic chance of a trophy this season.

Wenger was very forthright in his press conference yesterday, denying any bids or interest in Given and clarifying the confusion which had arose in the wake of Peter Hill-Woods comment.  We do have money to spend and he will be doing so very wisely.  We would expect nothing less, especially given his history and the current financial climate.  Not one fan would want to see Arsenal go to the wall simply because we threw money away on over-inflated transfer fees and wages.

Anyway, we'll know more by the end of the window, and that's that.

Today is a great chance for the lads to show us that they have put 2008 squarely behind them and start as they mean to go on.  With no Denilson (injured), Song (suspended), Fabregas (injured), Toure (injured) or the other usual suspects, we should see a midfield of Ramsey and Diaby (who, while having a bit of a shit time at the minute is actually a good player just lacking form and fitness) in which I have slightly more faith than the Denilson/Song partnership.

Fabianski will be our cup goalie, and while I really like the big Pole, I do think that he looks as though he could do with a Valium or two before kick off, why does he seem so nervous?  I thought keepers were meant to be mad as a box of frogs, not bunnys in the headlights....anyways, I digress.

As it's 'only' Plymouth, there'll be no live coverage in the UK (I've often wondered is that not the point of having your own TV channel?  Surely showing this match live on Arsenal TV is not going to diminish the actual crowd at the match as Arsenal fans will bite your hand off for tickets for any game at the Grove).

If you'd like to watch it almost live, you should be able to do so here ....

Tickets aren't getting snapped up on the club's exchange at the moment. Hence the empty seats.

i think thats probably got more to do with it being 'lower league' opposition, and perhaps a bad match to use as an example...

I was at the Wigan game and there were a lot of empty seats. I am finding it very easy to get tickets at the moment.

Funny, I was there myself ad you're right, i'm heading to the Bolton atch next week and see that you can still get tickets, but i think that's the same everywhere, supporters start falling away when you stop winning, but as long as there are more full seats than empty ones we'll be grand :)
