Did someone open a window when I wasn't looking?

Friday, 25 September 09, 05:44 AM · Comments(36)

Howdy doody LadyArse lovers. It seems as though I may have a very tiny apology to make regarding the standard of my blogging over the past number of weeks, maybe even months (this week aside). The reason for this is that I have been thoroughly and utterly miserable in work, more so than is normal. It seems, with a certain person on holiday, that they have been the source of mine (and everyones misery) in work and a result I've been a happy little Gooner this week. When said person returns I shall be off to Amsterdam for a week so it'll be addressed when I return, so hopefully, that will be an end to the shite/no blogs and normal service has been resumed. It's incredibly hard to be motivated to do anything when you spend your entire working day being picked on, criticised and generally made a cunt of. Now that I have identified the problem, it will most definiately be stopped.

Anyway, you don't need all the details, and as this isn't an Agony column (though it sometimes seems like that) let's crack on.

Somehow, despite it only being September, we have been enduring some transfer madness. Now, given the fact that it irritates the crap clean out of me that Xmas stuff is appearing the wrong side of Halloween, it's time for the press to catch a grip. We may very well be buying all the players in January they linked us with over the summer, but IT'S ONLY SEPTEMBER. Surely there is enough out there to be getting on with without generating hype for a window that won't open for another three months...like why Bellamy is allowed to slap a fan who posed no threat, or Mascherano allowed to whallop another player with no action, or how it seems to be common consensus that Man U get as much injury time as they need to win a game (sorry Jamrock, couldn't find that picture of the injury time board you were looking for but I'll kep looking).

It seems as though more and more people are starting to believe that Chesney could be starting between the sticks on Saturday. I do rate him more than Mannone, he has more confidence and is just generally a better keeper. Had he not managed to break both his arms messing around in the weights room no doubt we would have seen a lot more of him by now. Either way, should he or Mannone start, it begs the questions, just what is wrong with Almunia? Chest infections don't generally take this long to clear unless you refuse to to take anti-biotics and insist on smoking 60 Bensons a day. It seems far-fetched to say that he has been dropped with our second choice injured, but let's face it, how much confidence would Fabianski inspire in the defence if he was available?

At 18, there is no reason why Chesney couldn't be our number two, and, should Almunia return in the same form as which he left, Wurzel could very well find himself as our number one. At least we can blame his youth/inexperience when he fucks it up, what's Manuel's excuse?

I guess we'll find out on Saturday, but it is an interesting one.

Arshavin is back, Walcott is ready but won't be pushed, there's no word on Nasri, and Rosicky hasn't managed to break anything since we last saw him, so I expect to see a very attacking team head to Craven Cottage and a score to reflect such. I reckon it will finish 4-2. People can bang on about clean sheets all they like, but as long as we score more than we concede, I'll be a happy little bunny. Perhaps that's why Wenger is willing to play Chesney, he knows we are likely to concede and have to outscore opposition to win anyway, why not give the kid a go. He can't be worse than what we've seen already this season.

There was loads of stuff about Wenger growing up in a pub and that's why he's such a good manager in today's papers, but the bit I liked best was that he said he can't imagine ever retiring.  If you've seen his press conferences this season, it seems as though he has found a new lease of life. Last season, he seemed tired and weary, beaten almost at times, but something somewhere has happened to him. He has rediscovered his wit, his strength, his desire and hunger. There is no coincidence that this is also being reflected by the team on the pitch. Will he stay with Arsenal until he retires? Only he knows, but, like Ferguson at United, I can't imagine Arsene managing (or wanting to manage) anywhere but Arsenal. He is a Gooner to the core, and even though he turns 60 next month, he can stay at Arsenal til he's 90 as far as I'm concerned.

I'll leave it there for today and continue my photo search for Jamrock (I'm interested to see it myself). If I can't find it, I might have a go at mocking one up myself. I have a great idea for the photo Sky Sports used pre-season of the top 4 featuring Man City instead of us, but don't seem able to find one online, so if anyone has a copy or can provide a link, I'd appreciate it.

Til tomorrow...

It would be a baptism of fire for a 19yr old keeper but it wouldn't be the first time.

Remember Manninger way back when. He was outstanding filling in for Seaman and can't have been much older then young Szczesny is now.
