Does Arsenal past = Arsenal's future?

Saturday, 03 October 09, 02:28 AM · Comments(6)

I was up yesterday at 5am, off to work and finally go home at around 7.30pm. It wasn't all work related, but no doubt, as I'm sure you can appreciate, by the time I was home, writing a blog was far from my mind. My apologies.

So, no match today, which, as Jamrock says, is always always a weird thing for a Saturday. I've successfully managed to talk everyone into coming in an hour earlier tomorrow so we can hopefully finish at around 1pm and I can make it home for kick-off. It means I'll have to start at about 8am instead of the usual 9/10am start, but it's worth it for the Arsenal.

There's been a lot of spillover from Arsene's record breaking day on Thursday, with people obviously too busy to comment on Thursday (or realising they missed a chance to get in the papers) singing his proverbials in yesterday's papers.

Putting two and two together (and probably getting 22) the stories surrounding Henry and his possible return in the future, as well as Paddy's statement that he may have to seek a move in January if he doesn't get more playing time at Inter leads me to wonder if Le Boss has a plan. What would that plan be? I'm glad you asked.

Wenger, as much as it pains us, will have to retire as manager of Arsenal one day. Given the blood he has sweated and injected into Arsenal over the past 13 years, it would not be a stretch to say that he will stay on at the club in some capacity. That would raise some problems for any new manager, as how would you like to take over from the greatest manager in Arsenal's history with him peering over your shoulder all the time? The only way I can see that working is if we have a relatively 'new' manager. Could that be Henry? With Vieira at his side? And Wenger as 'technical director'?

It's a thought.

When we were linked with Paddy in the summer but didn't buy him, I had an inkling we might just have been leaving him at Inter til January to see how his fitness and form held out, knowing that we would need cover for Song when he heads off to the ACN, the boss could very well be thinking of bringing him in simply as cover for Song when the window opens. Could he do a job for us for 4/6 weeks? I think he could. Would he want to? I think he would.

There has been talk that he has lost his spark at Inter, but what better way to ignite it than to return to the place where he is loved more than anywhere else? It would be a risk, but from a motivational stand-point it's still a no brainer.

With regards to Henry, I can see him coming back in a coaching capacity in the next couple of years, working closely with Wenger as Wenger assess his managerial abilities. It's all just speculation, but come on, it sounds good doesn't it?

The best from Arsenal's recent past could very well be where Arsenal's future lies.

And with that thought in mind, I'm off to design up some more T-Shirt transfers. If anyone knows where I can get cheap T-shirts made up to order, please let me know. The company I was using had some problems with my designs, and as a result I'm just producing them as T-Shirt transfers at the minute (you know the kind, you iron-them on). It makes them cheaper, but not ideal. If you fancy having a look, you can see what I've already done here, and keep checking back as I'll be adding new designs pretty regulary (though not from Wednesday to the following Tuesday as I'm off to Ansterdam for a week). If you have any ideas/suggestions/requests, just pop thm in the comments box and you never know what might happen.

Tomorrow's blog will be along after our match against Blackburn, so make sure you check back in for one of the first, and most one-sided reports you're likely to find anywhere.

Til tomorrow...

just reading Andy Gray's article on SkySports about Wenger (well, the comments bit) and I'm wetting myself. The praise that has come from United fans over the past few days has been quite impressive, but you can't help but laugh when you see a Spuds fan calling Wenger overrated and wishing him to stay at Arsenal for another 10 years so we win nothing! WTF LMAO and as for the Liverpool fan...please...Benitez more sucessful? You're sniffing magic markers again aren't you?

I guess (outside of Arsneal)it takes fans of a truly sucessful team (Man U) to truly appreciate what Wenger has brought to the Premier League. Some even go so far to say that if it wasn't for Wenger Man U wouldn't be anywhere near as sucessful as they've been. I know we all hate each other, but you have to give kudos when they're due, and the reaction from United (on the whole - off course there have been some knobs) has been pleasantly impressive.

And that's the last time you'll hear me say something like that...unless Wenger reaches 20 years and they all say it again =D

Interesting question and while I am not entirely convinced that Patrick Vieira is the player he once was, I do think Henry could be returning to England because injuries and age are catching up with him and there is talk of this being his last season at Barca.

With no disrespect to Prof Wenger, he needs to go out and buy a top class CDM which Song isn't at the moment and which Arsenal are going to need if we are going to win any silverware this season.

I think Song will be a top top midfielder, but he his still very much on the up rather than the inished article (love him to bits tho). I think a CDM and a keeper are a must in January...until Chesney comes of age :D
