Happy Xmas

Thursday, 22 October 09, 08:27 AM · Comments(1)

I wasn't going to do a blog today, I am in stinking form which I know is the height of bad manners on this, the birthday of Arsenal's saviour. I'd go into why I'm in bad form but then that would probably just make my mood worse, so let's crack on and see where this ends up. If you're feeling suicidal in anyway, I'd suggest reading something else.

First up, off course, is that this, as you all know by now, is Sir Arsene Wenger's 60th birthday so a jolly big Happy Birthday to you! May there be another 60 to follow (well if he can go through an entire season unbeaten why can't he live til he's 120?) If you need me to tell you why he is so special to Arsenal you are obviously not an Arsenal fan and therefore I feel no need to explain anything to you. Everyone else knows why so I don't have to repeat it at this point.

In other news, Arshavin believes that we are a meer two players away from matching Barcelona in the attractive football stakes. This is both a good and a bad thing to say. It is good because who wouldn't want to think that their team is close to being like Barcelona but bad as it makes players in the squad think 'what the hell's he talking about, why aren't we good enough as we are?'

Arshavin does like to talk a lot, and I guess it's something we'll have to get used to but part of me just wishes that if he has something to say he would make sure it was positive or just mumble to himself quietly. What concerns me more, perhaps simply because I am in a bad mood and therefore looking for things to annoy myself with, is he also says:

"In Spain, for example, everything seems easier. England, in general, is different from many European countries, in terms of lifestyle and mentality."

Given that he is linked, along with practically every other Arsenal player, with a move to Barcelona at every possible opportunity and has never (to my knowledge) lived in Spain, it seems like a bit of a naughty thing to say. Then again, it was on Goal.com so they probably spoke to the guy on Twitter calling himself Arshavin and asked him for a quote. If it was the real Arshavin, he really isn't going to get much sympathy for his cost of living in London expenses when some people can't even afford to put food on the table.

God I'm getting grumpier, I thought doing this might lift my mood a bit. Obviously not.

Anyway...

I know there's an AGM today, but I'll go in to that in depth tomorrow, my brain just can't cope at the minute, it really does feel like it might explode. Besides, there's no information about it on the Arsenal site yet so anything I'd tell you would just be made up. There are some photos of it which brightened up my day no end. A bunch of shareholders sitting in a room looking a stage. Where else would you go to beat that? The most interesting thing is the guy on the right hand side in picture 1, I can't help but wonder what he's looking at...the guy in the centre front row obviously had a late night.

Nervianski has been talking about how he wants the chance to show what he can do. The unfortunate thing is that he has been given that chance and has come up short on numerous ocassions. I want to like Fabianski, in fact, I actually want to love him. He looks like a goalkeeper who could be a real legend. Until he's called into action, at which point it becomes clear that the Dr's still haven't worked out which medication will settle his ever-increasing nerves. I still think out of the four keepers currently listed in the first-team squad that Chesney is the one and only that has any true number one potential. Despite how well Mannone has done, I think that in a year or two Chesney will surpass him in the pecking order. Just hearing an insane rumour that we are even considering thinking about potentially scouting a keeper would lift my mood no end. Alas, I don't see it happening.

I think that's where I'll leave things for now. Some food, a lot of sleep, and a new day and I shall no doubt be restored to my usual chipper self...well, you know what I mean.

What about a rumour about us signing Akinfeev, would that do the trick? :D
