Well, thanks to the fact that Sky Sports are a bunch of wankers and wanted to be able to show the goals from all the Carling Cup matches first, Arsenal fans globally were denied the chance to see the next generation dispatch West Brom (with a little help from a moment of madness from ex-Gunner Jerome Thomas - who elbowed Jack as well as slapping him - more on that later).
The commentary team on Arsenal.com confirmed that Arsenal had approached Sky with a financial proposal which would allow them to show the match live online but Sky said 'fuck off, we paid millions for those rights so we're going to keep them all to ourselves' or words to that effect. In the end, Arsenal ended up paying feck knows how much to show the match 'as live' at 10pm after Sky had aired all the goals and incidents.
Knobs.
The 'incident' involving Jack and Thomas was a turning point in the match. Up to that point West Brom were arguably the more dangerous team and could have gone on to win the match had they had a full compliment of players. It is being reported that Jack used 'foul and abusive' language at Thomas which is why he saw fit to shove him in the face. As there is no mention of the language being racist, I'm going to say that anything Jack said to Thomas was more than acceptable given that the West Brom player had just thrown his elbow into his face and then thought he could make it all better by offering a hand to help him off the ground. Martinez doesn't blame Thomas for his reaction, but that just seems to be the in-thing at the minute when it comes to thug players. Crucify those who 'amplify' a foul to ensure it is given, but hey, let's not over-react when a player tries to do another physical damage. A classic example last night was when there were a few penalty claims not given simply because the Arsenal players endeavoured to stay on their feet. Just because you don't hit the deck doesn't make it not a foul refs.
Apart from the sending off, Carlos Vela's return from injury was the main catalyst behind our win. He was electric from the minute his Mexican boots hit the Emirates turf. It was his pile driver which was parried to allow Sanchez Watt to slot home, and he was lurking after the entire West Brom defence froze and gazed as a wonder-chip from Randall bounced of the bar and their defender tried to chest it back to his keeper. To say he is a live-wire is to do him an injustice. He's a full-on electric chair, and not one from those horror museums, I'm talking a fully-functioning Texan style sparky.
Worzel Chesney was great in goal and I feel goes someway to justifying why I claim he is better than Mannone, and will be our number one if all goes to plan within a few years. Coquelin was just an engine in midfield as always and I can't wait to see how he develops as he has everything I think he needs to be our midfield enforcer in the coming years.
The one interesting thing was the abscence of Merida from the squad. There is no doubt that he would be an automatic starter, so I have to assume he picked up a knock. I hope it's nothing serious. Another highlight of the match was how little Silvestre was mentioned. That's always a good thing, cause if he has to play, I'd really rather not hear about it.
Do I need to mention that prior to Vela's introduction Jack was star of the show? I think that's just a given anytime he plays so I'll move on.
So, 2-0 it ended and we progress to the next round where the kids get another chance to show what they've got.
An honourable mention must go the the 56,000 + fans who turned up at the Emirates last night, knowing that they were going to watch the kids. The noise they made was immense. They should be incredibly proud of their performance as well.
So, now, all eyes move forward towards Saturday and Fulham at Craven Cottage where we got turned over last year in that horror start, but with two full days before that match, I think I'll keep my thoughts to myself for now, otherwise, I might not have anything to write about.
Til tomorrow...

Thanks to Anish on my blogger blog for this:
Merida's at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, as is the younger Hoyte.
Greta news...no injury
EduardoIsInnocent mentioned that in my comments yesterday about Merida. I had forgotten about Hoyte altogether.
Must have missed that comment lol If he'd write ablog I might be more inclined to pay more attention
lol
Most fans believe the media is against them but in the case of Arsenal there seems to be a point. I can't decide if it's thinly veiled xenophobia, most journos being Spuds or Manure or just plain sensationalism but the reporting of the incidents with Eduardo, Adebayor and now Wilshere have been disproportionate to the actual offences.
EDS dives and he is suddenly worse that RVN, Rooney, Drogba, Gerrard or any of the other fuckers out there (particularly if they are English)
Ade makes an arse of himself and suddenly it's all Arsenal's fault.
Eboue handballs and it makes the back pages - that Independent article was complete toss.
Now it's Wilshere's turn ...
Incedents that happen week in week our are suddenly newsworthy when it comes to Arsenal.
No wonder our fans / the club feel victimised.
Couple that with Platini's comments - a man who is supposed to remain impartial and what you see is an absolute disgrace.
At least it diverts attention from the poor performances of the manager, players and the board ...
Seriously, Wilshere gets an elbow in the face, and then goes down a bit theatrically when slapped across the face straight after, cue an article on Sky Sports prompted by Martinez about how he is 'disappointed' in Jack. Go to the Liverpool page on Sky Sports and there isn't a single piece focusing on the fact that Mascherano clobbered a Leeds player around the back of his head deliberately (and with venom) yet never even received a yellow card.
What, seriously, is the press's problem with Arsenal? I've even seen blogs and articles with headlines along the lines of 'First Eduardo, then Eboue, now Wilshere' WTF
Just when you think it's not possible for a squad to get any younger we put out a team of whom 8 players are between the age of 17 and 19, heh heh.
It was a good win but we need a few experienced heads if we're serious about progressing far in the Carling Cup this year.
Y'know I'm very worried about the club's future under the new UEFA Under 18 transfer proposals. It'll surely kill us.
In that eventuality our only avenue must surely be a buy out.
The Press are w*nkers no doubt...
Still, the only thinig to do is keep getting results, and stuff it up them too..
I think it should be left to the parents of anyone under 18 to decide where they should and shouldn't be allowed to go. As Wenger has said, if you have a child who is gifted at music you want that child to go to the best music school possible, so wht should football be any different?
The FA/UEFA/FIFA bang on about clubs spending far too much money yet seem hell bent on introducing rules which will mean clubs will have to spend even more money. We paid £5 million for Ramsey at 16, how much would be worth if we had to wait until he was 18...or how much would his development have been hindered if he had to stay at a club not equipped to give him what he needs. I know he's Welsh and not a great example, but you get my point.
I'll think I'll keep the rest of this for my blog lol...
