off the last goal on their regular season list: redemption. Boston had been the only team LA was not able to beat, but this past Sunday the Sol
proved their critics wrong and came full circle with a 2-1 victory over the Boston Breakers.

Many people are saying that it was Boston's game, Sol just got lucky. Perhaps they did. If everyone else was watching the same game as me, you
could plainly see that the Breakers were dominating. I hate to say it, but LA looked sloppy,
unorganized, and wasn't able to connect passes. Maybe it's because the Sol has already clenched a berth at the WPS Championships or
maybe the Breakers were able to thwart the ingenius minds of the Sol. Regardless, it was Boston's game.

The Breakers began the attack in the 17th minute after Kristine Lilly sent the ball down the line for teammate
      Kelly Smith. Smith
was able to get by Sol's almost-impenetrable defense and snuck one inches from Sol goalie, Karina LeBlanc. With that, the half ended in 1-0 for the
      Breakers.

Admittedly, Sol did have some shots on goal. But by some I mean two. Compare that to the Breaker's
six and all I can say is that LeBlanc was getting a workout. LA seemed
a bit off on Sunday's match, giving away easy possesions and making small errors. Boston outshined the sunshine team, connecting passes, making
great runs down the field, and poking holes into Sol's defense. But after pointing out LA's flaws, I have to give them credit for fighting. Even
though Sol didn't give their best performance, they made it difficult for Boston to get a second goal.

For the next 43 minutes after the first goal, it
appeared that Boston would be taking the last playoff spot. Unfortunately for the Breakers, in the
60th minute Aly Wagner's simple pass to Marta would prove to be deadly. Running past Breaker
defenders, Marta received a pass from Wagner that was about to be saved by goalie Kristin Luckenbill. But Marta managed to get a foot on the ball while tripping over
Luckenbill and avoiding her reach. And that, tied the game.

But Boston was still in the playoffs. All they had to do was hold off Los Angeles and prevent them
from gaining more momentum. Even after the full 90, it appeared that Sky Blue was out. Then, there was stoppage time. In the 93rd minute, only
seconds before the referee planned on blowing the whistle, Sol organized for one last offense attack. The ball went to Marta and after taking a couple steps, was deemed to be fouled by the Breakers, in the 18-yard box. Put Shannon Boxx in front of that
penalty kick and that ends Boston's dreams.

Stoppage time was the main factor this game as Los Angeles scored off a penalty kick that many people aruge was simply, a bad call. After watching
the replay, I agree - it was a poor decision by the referee, but every game has bad calls. And even if you hit the replay button a million times, the plain truth is that
Boston won't be facing the Washington Freedom in the first round of the playoffs.

As the door closes for Boston, another one opens for Sky Blue. It's unfortunate that the
Breakers lost a shot at the playoffs by one point, but with all the obstacles Sky Blue has had to overcome, I can't but feel happy for them.

The next game we'll be blogging will be the Championships! Will it be Freedom, Sky Blue, or Athletica? The LA Sol have not won a match since they lost to St. Louis Athletica on Wednesday, July 8th by a score of 1-0. They tied their next match against FC Gold Pride at 0 goals,
earning Sol the only point they needed to clinch the WPS Regular Season title and the chance to host the Final at the HDC on August 22nd. Most recently, the Sol lost to Chicago on Sunday
      3-1.

Carli Lloyd opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Lindsay Tarpley added another at the beginning of the second half. Han Duan scored for LA in the 90th minute, but Cristiane scored the third goal for the Red Stars in stoppage time.

This just makes me wonder if the Sol are taking it easy since they've already earned the #1 seed and are just waiting on a Final opponent. Chicago could have wanted the win more
since they're out of the play-off picture and they just wanted a win for their 7,595 fans at their last home match of the season.

It could be hard for LA to play with any sort of motivation, since they know at the end of the day, the last two teams they played (Pride and Red Stars) did not have a chance at
the post-season and the outcome of the game wouldn't make an impact on the standings, and they already have that Final spot in their hands.

Maybe they're just playing badly, but hopefully they fix their issues on the field soon enough, because the final will be here before they know it, and whatever team they play
will not go easy on them. Everyone is out to beat LA.

The Sol's next match will be their last of the season. They'll be on the road playing against the first team that beat them, the Boston Breakers. The match
will air live on Fox Soccer Channel at 3 pm PT on August 9th.

The LA Sol played their last home game of the season against the St. Louis
Athletica on a HOT day in LA. Athletica became the first team to defeat LA on their home turf in a 1-0 decision.

The goal was scored in the 11th minute by Amanda
Cinalli. Eniola Aluko made a run
down the wing where she got past Sol defenders Manya

box and served a diagonal, where Cinalli shot the ball into an almost open net.

Marta almost tied the game in the 20th minute when she hit a low shot towards the far
post, but Hope Solo dove to her left and barely got to the ball. Han Duan almost scored in the 31st minute, but Solo
deflected the low shot out of danger. Neither team created any dangerous chances for the remainder of the half.

Sol came out of the locer room refreshed, and determined to score goals. They had a couple of chances, but the St. Louis defense denied their shots.

Marta had another chance in the 58th minute when she sent a corner kick to the crossber. Solo punched it out of danger.

Bock almost got the equalizer in the 63rd minute when she headed a corner kick to the near side of the goal, but Solo made a huge reaction save to keep her team in it.

In the 67th minute, Sol had probably the best opportunity of the match. Marta's pass across the goal got to Aya Miyama's feet. She took her time to try and get a goos shot on goal, but Solo
      saves it with her knees.

The Sol suffered their 2nd loss this season, and only their first at home. Hope Solo made four big saves to earn her 6th shutout of the season.

LA seemed a bit slower. They weren't controlling the ball well in the midfield, and they didn't seem to click like they usually do. It could be that they are a
little worn out from their tough game on Sunday against the Washington Freedom. They only had one day to recover from it, and their legs were heavy, but Coach Abner Rogers says"...there are no
      excuses."

This loss seems to be very shocking for a team like the Sol, who have dominated from the start. Truth is, I don't think team LA is really bummed about it as they sit comfortably
at the top of the league standings in 1st place with 37 points. Athletica is in second place with 23, and have widened the gap between them and the 3rd place Boston Breakers (18
      points).

A win today would have made the Sol WPS season champions, and earned them the right to host the WPS Final on August 22. We'll have to wait and see what happens until July
23rd when LA takes on FC Gold Pride at Buck Shaw Stadium at 7pm PT. Coincidentally enough, both
teams again will be without their starting 'keepers and a few field players as the US and Canada will play a friendly match the day before, which will be broadcast Live on ESPN at 12pm PT
(more on that at the US Women's blog).

For Sol, goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc will
be playing for Canada, defender Stephanie Cox will wear the US jersey for the first time

the 40th minute, Rosana passed a ball to O'Reilly whose shot was blocked
      by Martina Franko.

That was it for the first half. It was all Sky Blue.

The Sol came out a little stronger in the second half, and had a shot on goal in the beginning minute. Aly Wagner took a shot after some miscommunication in Sky Blue's backline, but Branam saved it.

Sky Blue continued their attack, and Kai almost scored ten minutes later, but her header went just wide.

Boxx took a shot from outside the box (no pun intended) trying to do something different, but Branam had her shot covered.

Second half substitute Collette McCallum almostfound the net in the 72nd minute,
but her shot went just over the crossbar.

In the 85th minute Megan Schnur hit a volley but
was too soft and LeBlanc had no trouble collecting it.

Kai had yet another chance in the 89th minute on another header that again went wide. A minute later, Kai was making a run for a ball in the
area, but LeBlanc came out strong to snatch the ball away.

Sky Blue dominated the entire match outshooting the Sol 14-5, but only 7 were on goal (4 from Sky Blue, 3 from Sol).

The rain certainly had an effect on the match. The ball was slowing down, the players had to run more; or when the passes were high, the ball skipped. Players couldn't get good,
clean touches on the ball, and their shots were a little weak. All in all, it was a great scoreless match with a lot of action.

The LA Sol returns to action next Sunday at home for the last match
against FC Gold Pride. The match is at 3 pm PT and will be aired live on Fox Soccer Channel.
