Japanese midfielder Aya Miyama joins the Sol

Thursday, 05 February 09, 01:28 PM

The Los Angeles Sol confirmed yesterday the signing of 24-year old Japanese midfielder Aya Miyama.

.Aya Miyama signs with the Los Angeles Sol

The Japan National team star will wear the same #8 she wears for the Japanese team. Aya Miyama signs with the Los Angeles SolAya is extremely skilled and fast and will be perfect to create the offensive plays with Aly Wagner to get the ball to Marta and Han Duan up front.

The English media once named her "the Female Beckham" a nickname that she doesn't really want to carry around. "I don't want to be compared to Beckham," says Aya.

But with or without the comparison Aya will certainly be a crucial piece on the team that will fight for the title of the inaugural season of the WPS.

The Los Angeles Sol is set to play the inaugural match of the 2009 WPS Season on Mach 29 against the Washington Freedom

Best Player of The World Signs with Los Angeles Sol

Tuesday, 13 January 09, 11:32 AM

No, no... I'm not talking about Cristiano Ronaldo coming to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy; that won't happen! I'm talking about the best female footballer in the world, Marta, who yesterday signed her contract with the WPS team Los Angeles Sol.

Marta Vieira da Silva

The 22-year old Brazilian star was just elected Best Female FIFA Footballer of the Year for the third time in a row. Marta's achievement become even more impressive and we see that besides the three best player titles she's been among the top three since 2004, when she was only 17 years old.

Marta - Best female footballer of the world

Marta
will join Olympic Gold medalists, Shannon Boxx, Aly Wagner and Stephanie Cox. There is still the possibility for the L.A. Sol to bring in other international players such as Japanese midfielder Aya Miyama and Chinese forward Han Duan.

On a personal note, with the best females footballers coming to play in the Women's Professional Soccer League we can certainly be sure that the level of the competition will be as high as the best men's leagues on the planet.

So if you live in Southern California come watch the Los Angeles Sol when the WPS kicks off on March 29th.

LA Sol will be the first to play at home in the WPS season opening at the Home Depot Center

Thursday, 18 December 08, 03:35 PM

It's happening. We've all waited very long to have the dates for the first matches announced and now that we know them we can start reporting about what goes on with our own Los Angeles Sol.

LA Sol Players - Shannon Boxx, Han Duan, Stephanie Cox and Aly Wagner

To start let me me just say how cool it was to see the US WNT Team play (and beat) China twice this month. And in the first match at the Home Depot Center future LA Sol teamates Shannon Boxx, Aly Wagner, Stephanie Cox posed for a picture with one of the probable international Sol player Han Duan. Very cool!

The ABOVE THE CLOUDS Blog needs YOU!

If you live in the Los Angeles area and are a true fan of the L.A. Sol and would love to be closer to the team you're the person we're looking for.

This blog was created to give fans the opportunity to write about Sol and to become the Official OleOle Blogger for the team.

We will already count on "Junior Journalist" Alondra Hernandez but we want two more people helping out to make the ABOVE THE CLOUDS the best blog among the 7 other that will be created for each WPS Team.

It's NOT a paid job. We just had this idea of promoting each team and the league to maybe convince OleOle to create individual pages for each teams and for the league just like they do with men's soccer.

We're also trying to establish a partnership with the WPS and the teams so that the bloggers will be able to apply for Press Credentials and cover each home match as a real journalist. You will also be able to interview the players and provide other fans with the best and most interesting information about the LA Sol.

Are you up for the challenge?

Send us an e-mail at OleOleWPS@gmail.com and apply to prove you're the ultimate Los Angeles Sol fan!
