Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón has revealed his personal objective of the new season to his players: the Copa del Rey.
The Spanish King’s Cup is the one and only trophy that Real Madrid have not been able to get their hands on in recent times and it is fast becoming the thorn in the sides of several of the club’s key figures. And one of them happens to be the president, Ramón Calderón.According to Marca, el presidente met up with the available squad of players yesterday for a chat and revealed to them that his biggest wish of the season is for the club to obtain the Copa del Rey for the first time since 1993.
“I wanted them to know that it would mean a lot to me if they can win the Copa this season,” was Calderón’s answer when asked what he had talked to the players about.
Some of the club’s senior members, such as Raúl, Guti, Salgado and
Casillas have also grown desperate in recent years for failing to end the team’s 15 year jinx. Having already won literally every piece of available
silverware at club level, the quartet will be just as eager as their president to get their hands of the one and only missing trophy.
The Copa del Rey have already begun with the preliminary stages for teams in the lower divisions. La Liga clubs will begin their campaign at the end of December/early January.
