Calderón To Face Calls To Go

Monday, 13 October 08, 02:52 AM

The leader of a group that want a change of regime at Real Madrid are going to call for Ramón Calderón to resign with dignity or they will push ahead with a plan to oust him.

Plataforma Blanca's Eugenio Martínez Bravo is preparing to make the demand at the club's next general assembly even though he is not hopeful that the club president will step down.

In much the same way that Joan Laporta led the Elefant Blau against Barça supremo Josep Lluis Nuñez in the 1990's, the Madrid opposition group are desperate for a change at the helm.

"In the assembly I will go in hard and put it forward that Calderón goes because his presence at the front of the club discredits Real Madrid," Martínez Bravo said.

"If he had any dignity and if had any affection for the club he would leave."

"The assembly will be a key moment because depending on how everything goes and what people that are present have to say we will gtive him the chance to go with dignity."

"The most likely thing though is that we will push forward a motion of censure."

Calderón has yet to name a date for the assembly and that has left Martínez Bravo frustrated in his efforts to start planning for it.

"We ask every day for a date when it will be, but nobody at the club knows anything. Not us or anyone inside," he continued.

"Our last thought was that it would be at some time in October, but the regulations state that he has until December 31."

Mijatovic: We Are Obliged To Do Well In Cup

Saturday, 11 October 08, 11:20 AM

After being drawn against Real Unión in the Copa Del Rey Real Madrid sports director, Pedja Mijatovic, has said his side are obliged to do well in the competition and are keen to go far.

Real Madrid might have their eyes on grander prizes than the Copa Del Rey this year but according to sports director of the club, Pedja Mijatovic, it is still a trophy they desire.

The capital based side have not won the competition for fifteen years years now and speaking today Mijatovic says that they are obliged to do well in it this time around.

"This year we are obliged to have a good run in the Copa Del Rey," he started, "We have gone a long time without winning the compeition and the last two years our exits have been early. We carry a lot of desire, perhaps the moment has arrived."

Real Madrid have been drawn against Real Unión who have never beaten Los Blancos in the league before but Mijatovic acknowledged that whilst they are a modest side they must be respected.

"Real Unión are a modest and small team but they have history and it must be respected. They are going to do everything possible to surprise us."

"These types of teams have nothing to lose and all to win; the prestige, the desire to have a great game against us and to eliminate us, that will be difficult but anything can happen in football," he mused.

The Copa Del Rey aside Real Madrid are also fighting for the Champions League and their third straight league title and Mijatovic said that they have 'an extensive and competitive squad to fight in all three competitions.'

Next up for the champions though is a trip across town to the Vicente Calderón where they take on arch rivals Atlético Madrid and despite the battering Barcelona gave to Atleti Mijatovic has nothing but praise for them.

"They have a great team and are showing it in a competition as difficult as the Champions League. One must not take note of the last result," he concluded.

Calderón Wants Copa Del Rey

Tuesday, 09 September 08, 04:54 AM

Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón has revealed his personal objective of the new season to his players: the Copa del Rey.

The Spanish King’s Cup is the one and only trophy that Real Madrid have not been able to get their hands on in recent times and it is fast becoming the thorn in the sides of several of the club’s key figures. And one of them happens to be the president, Ramón Calderón.According to Marca, el presidente met up with the available squad of players yesterday for a chat and revealed to them that his biggest wish of the season is for the club to obtain the Copa del Rey for the first time since 1993.

“I wanted them to know that it would mean a lot to me if they can win the Copa this season,” was Calderón’s answer when asked what he had talked to the players about.
Some of the club’s senior members, such as Raúl, Guti, Salgado and Casillas have also grown desperate in recent years for failing to end the team’s 15 year jinx. Having already won literally every piece of available silverware at club level, the quartet will be just as eager as their president to get their hands of the one and only missing trophy.

The Copa del Rey have already begun with the preliminary stages for teams in the lower divisions. La Liga clubs will begin their campaign at the end of December/early January.
