The Unofficial Manchester United Blog

Friday, 29 June 07, 07:41 PM · Comments(1)

Welcome to the Unofficial Manchester United blog hosted by Ole Ole.

Hello, its Friday June 29th and there are only 43 days left until the start of English League Football. We are also only a few days away from the official signing of Canadian born midfielder Owen Hargreaves. United are to kick off the season at home to Reading. United have been very busy so far this off season as they have signed Anderson and Nani to offset Hargreaves in the midfield. Also today, Manchester United brass confirmed they have been able to secure a work permit for Anderson. The young man's status with the club appeared in jeporady as at first United were not able to gain a work permit. The reason being cited was his lack of international caps, but United were able to have this decision overthrown today.

Club Transfers

Portuguese winger Nani comes from Sporting Lisbon which is the same club that produced Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo. Nani measures up at 5 feet 9 inches and 20 years of age. Nani has played 61 games for Sporting with 10 goals and has also been capped 6 times by Portugal scoring twice. Nani helped Sporting to lift the Portuguese Cup during this past season and also played in 6 Champions league games scoring one goal. Accompanying Nani to Manchester is Anderson, the highly touted "next Ronaldinho."

Anderson and Ronaldinho both hail from Porto Alegre, also they both sport long hair. Anderson is only 19 years old and stands nine 5 feet 9 inches. Anderson was capped for the first time by Brazil during Wednesday nights loss against Mexico. Anderson won the Adidas Golden Ball at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup which was held in Peru. In signing Anderson and Nani, United have brought two young, talented and passionate players to Old Trafford.

O wen Hargreaves is the most experienced player United have signed so far this summer. The England midfielder has been capped 39 times since joining the top squad in 2001. Hargreaves is predominately a defensive midfield player and can hopefully take some of the load off of an aging Paul Scholes. United now posses three solid central midfielders (Hargreaves Scholes, and Carrick). Hargreaves has spent the last decade playing for German side FC Bayern. Hargreaves suffered a leg injury and missed considerable time this past season. Hargreaves has been linked with United since the end of WC 2006, but he will not make it official until July, 1st. These three additions only help to strengthen the Premiership Champions.

Rumors and Speculation

Old Trafford is a brew with transfer speculation and it seems as if Carlos Tevez name has resurfaced in the mix. United are part of a Premiership quartet of teams looking to sign the Argentine catalyst.  Tevez has already stated that he will not make a decision about where his future lies until Argentina's interest in the Copa America is finished. Tevez cited this reason for why he turned down Italian giants Inter earlier this week.

I plan to Update this Blog as much as I possibly can.
