Manchester United vs LDU Quito

Thursday, 18 December 08, 11:16 AM · Comments(8)

Manchester United will take on Liga de Quito in the final of 2008 FIFA Club World Cup after both sides won their respective semi-finals.

English giants United beat J. League outfit Gamba Osaka 5-3 in a pulsating encounter watched by 67,618 fans at Yokohama International Stadium, with Wayne Rooney coming off the bench to score twice for Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

A day earlier a crowd of 33,316 braved driving rain at the National Stadium in Tokyo as Liga de Quito took advantage of two defensive lapses to beat Mexican side Pachuca 2-0 in an error-riddled encounter.

Cristiano Ronaldo remained tight-lipped about the prospects of a move to Real Madrid in the aftermath of Manchester United's win, instead preferring to concentrate on the prospect of United becoming the first British club to lift the FIFA Club World Cup in its current incarnation.

The final will take place at Yokohama International Stadium on December 21.

Did you see who got C. Ronaldo's jersey after the game? It was Yasuda! Maybe he'll command a move to Europe soon. It was a very entertaining match, but I was disappointed by the defence. They gave Rooney way to much space. If only it was Tulio and Nakazawa in the back. I think that a J-league all-star team could give Manchester United a decent game. Nevertheless high-scoring games are always fun to watch. I was wondering if you knew anything about the Cho Jae-Jin situation and what you thought about him coming back to Japan. I don't know if we really need him. I'd rather strengthen our defense instead.

Yasuda was once again impressive last night, even if the Gamba defence was dead on its feet by the end.

I thought - defensive lapses aside - that Endo was good again last night too, although I wrote more about that here;

Looks like Cho Jae-Jin to Gamba is almost a done deal.

A guy connected to his agent was telling me a couple of months back that after his unsuccessful trials in Europe, he actually wanted to come back to Shimizu S-Pulse.

I'm not quite sure how much credence I would give to that theory, but at any rate he's a useful addition to a squad that has struggled for goals ever since Baré left for the UAE.

I'm sure Gamba will shop around for a new defender as well. After all, they've got a bit of AFC and FIFA cash to splash about now!

it was an enjoyable game to watch.. too bad united conceded three goals.. gamba osaka played well and if there was another 10 minutes left after gamba's third goal, the result might be a draw and there would be an extra-time maybe even penalty shootouts..

LDU Quito surprised me a little in the semi-final against Pachuca, Zrod.

I know they were helped by two defensive errors but they still looked pretty good.

I agree with you in that they should give Manchester United a run for their money tomorrow night. Hope it's a good game!
