The New 12

Friday, 16 January 09, 03:43 PM

Today, january 16, 2009, marked the day that many players of all ages fufilled their dreams of participating in the WPS, by being drafted to 7 teams. After four hours of tagginglong with the draft (and let me tell you, it's not easy sitting in a chair for 4 hours), FINALLY SBFC has 10 players that were picked out of the WPS draft. Some old, some new, and some that played on an international level for other countries.

So let's see who they are:

FIRST PICK

Yael Averbuch Yael Averbuch
Yael, originally from montclair (jersey girl =] ), returns to her homestate of NJ. She is currently a senior at UNC and plays at the middy. She is one of the nation's premier college players and is currently on a US national team. She joins for UNC alumni Heather O'Reilly and Kacey White. I can't wait to see her play 'cause i hear she's entertaining...hehe

SECOND PICK

Meghan Schnur Megha Schnur
A middy from PA, she went to University of Connecticut. She participted in the FIFA u19 World Championship in Thailand in the year 2004.

THIRD PICK

Karen BardsleyKaren Bardsley
Standing at 6ft and announced by Pia Sundhage,(which is giant compared to me) Bardsley is GK from Chino Hills, CA, who went to CalState, Fullerton. She was one of two American-born players called to Englands u19 NT training camp in 2003.

 FOURTH PICK

Christie Shaner
A defender from PA, she went to University of Notre Dame. She has been a part of the US National Team program since 1998.

FIFTH PICK

Julianne Sitch
An All-American from DePaul, played for FC Indiana. She was the 2003 Conference USA player of the year.

SIXTH PICK

Jen Buzckowski
A midfileder, she is a volunteer assistant coach at University of Notre Dame. Was astarter with the u21 US WNT in 2005.

SEVENTH PICK

Ouying Zhang
Currently residing in california, Zhang was part of the PR China national team in the 2000 and 2004 aolympic.

EIGHTH PICK

Mary Therese McDonnell
A defender from Illinois, she went to the university of illinois. She played for the Boston Renegades.

NINTH PICK

Mele French
Another Hawaiin forward joins the team! French, who went to University of Oregon, played for Pali Blues.

TENTH PICK

Fanta Cooper
A familiar face and defender, Fanta attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was the captain of the W-Leagues Jersey Sky Blue in 2008 and hopefully she'll be "doin the catwalk" at yurcak field ( i hope soem of you know what I'm talkin about). She was named best w-league defender in 2003 soccer in Sweden.

Stacy Bishop
A forward/middy from FL, she plays midfield and went to LSU

Jaimel Johnson

This draft may mark a disappointment for Christina DiMartino who was hoping to join the SBFC, which would be closer to her home town in NY. She will be playing for FC Gold Pride on the West Coast.

This will also be  farewell to former Jersey Sky Blue GK, Jillian Lloyden as she will be playing for St. Louis Athletic.

Hopefully EVERYONE is satisfied with the draft results

Next- open tryouts!!

til next time

Friday, 19 December 08, 01:58 PM

The NJ/NY entry into WPS -  the Sky Blue FC – announced today that the team will open its first-ever season at home on Sunday, April 5, 2009. Sky Blue FC will take on the Los Angeles Sol at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ.

Sky Blue's home grounds will actually be Rutgers University’s Yurcak Field in Piscataway, NJ but the team’s home opener will be moved to TD Bank Ballpark to accommodate the larger crowd expected for the debut.

“Based on the high level of demand for tickets to the Sky Blue FC home opener, we decided to move the game to TD Bank Ballpark,” said Sky Blue Soccer CEO & President Thomas Hofstetter. “The Ballpark is a beautiful facility and we’re very happy to have the opportunity to partner with the Somerset Patriots. The Patriots organization is a role model in community interaction and we look forward to our relationship with them extending beyond just the home opener.”

BECOME A WRITER FOR THE BLUE'Z THE LIMIT Blog

If you live in the New York/New Jersey area, are a true soccer fan of the Sky Blue FC and would love to be closer to the team you're the person we're looking for.

This blog was created to give fans the opportunity to write about the Sky Blue and to become the  Official OleOle Blogger for the team.

It's NOT a paid job. We just had this idea of promoting each team and the league to maybe convince OleOle to create individual pages for each teams and for the league just like they do with men's soccer.

We're also trying to establish a partnership with the WPS and the teams so that the bloggers will be able to apply for Press Credentials and cover each home match as a real journalist. You will also be able to interview the players and provide other fans with the best and most interesting information about the Sky Blue FC.

Are you up for the challenge?

Send us an e-mail at OleOleWPS@gmail.com and apply to prove you're the NY/NJ Sky Blue FC #1 fan!
