The Premier League (or as we Yanks call it, “the EPL”) is not even two decades old, yet many of the world’s greatest teams have competed in it. Over the last seventeen years, several fine squads have played in the Prem, and I recently decided to try to narrow it down to the best ten. It was a tough task, and I wouldn’t recommend it, but now that I’ve done it, I’d like to share my list with you.
Here is the criteria I used. The team had to win the league title and possibly other domestic and international honors. If they couldn’t win the league title, they wouldn’t belong on this list of dominant teams, and if they couldn’t compete for other domestic and international honors they wouldn’t be able to separate themselves from other league champs.
They don’t need to just win either to make this list, they had to be so good they would often embarass their opponents. As you can imagine, the fact that the team must have won a Premier League title means that only a few teams will have squads on this list (sorry Liverpool). But, after much consideration, I figured that was the only fair way to do it.
If I left off one of your favorite teams, please let me know about it in the comments. Please come back to PLTO over the next ten days to learn about the best ten soccer (hey, I told you I was a Yank) teams in EPL history.
