Officially: Robinho Moves To Manchester City For 40m Euros

Monday, 01 September 08, 03:58 PM · Comments (46)

Robinho

Robinho: OMG, I've just made a big mistake!

UPDATE: Real Madrid has officially confirmed the deal on the official website:

Madrid based Cadena Sur has reported that Robinho has been transferred to Manchester City for 40 million euros today while AS has also had the same news on the front page of its website.

Less than two hours available closing the deadline for making signings Robinho's case has come to an end. Real Madrid has decided to transfer Robinho to Manchester City.

Although its 99.99 % true, there isn't anything official as of yet and I have to say, I am surprised that Manchester City were the one who would actually nail this deal. It looks like Eriksson had a hand in this surprise package, don't you think? After all I say he's better off to Man City than going to Chelsea eh?!. So long Robinho, you made a huge mistake mate! Now that's he's gone, do you guys think we have a full squad still ?

Stay tuned for updates from Rajab soon .

Via Hamdi AlHaddad (TheDangerZolo)

Rajab's thoughts on this:

Well, I admit I'm surprised that Robinho has agreed to move to Manchester City a team who can't seriously compete for the Champions League or even the English League (no offense though). I just can't believe he said yes, because according to him the number one reason he was leaving Real was that he was looking for a place where he can grow and be the best player in the world, and I don't think Man City is that place. Chelsea could have been that place yes, but he didn't go to Chelsea.

This is a sneaky move from Calderon and a big blow to Cheliski and their officials. Calderon proved that everything was under his hand although the player "rebelled" many times. He proved that knows how to handle such situations, but yet again what I don't get is how Robinho agreed to move to Man City rather than Chelsea, or oh wait, do you think that there is already an agreement reached between Man City and Chelsea? That Robinho would move to Chelsea during the winter ttransfer window for some agreed price after Man City has used him? It doesn't make sense or does it?

Anyway, I can't wait for Robinho's first press conference, I wish I would be there to punch him in the face. And that Arab rich dude made his first big signing as Man City's new pimp supreme. Arabs are rich. Not all of them, though.

Better for us that he is going to a non champions league playing side than Chelsea, who might meet us later in the competition.
As for the post,I have a question. How would Eriksson be involved in this transfer?I didn't understand.

I think Calderon put it nicely "his move to Manchester City was not based on a sporting decision" aka he saw 8O $$$$$$$$$ good luck to Robinho in Man city not playing in champions league and fighting to make it to 6 place in the EPL.

What a kid he is...ruined his career in a mere phone call by moving to Manchester City, not that they're bad, but Robinho needs better, atleast he doesn't go to Chelski. Goodbye Rob, I hope you realise your mistakes. Hala Madrid!

when I think of all the drama Real went through to bring him to the club, it saddens me it has to end this way. As a real fan, I wish him all the luck be it good or bad haha.
He will certainly grow at City, plenty grey hairs that is, he will get plenty playing time yes, but City's inability to win anything against half of England's club in the league, he will grow fustrated with not winning any silverware. No CL play for him haha
On another note, i can't be totally upset with him cause heck if I was treated like bait, i would be mad too.

Huh, Eriksson is Mexico boss :S Mark Hughes is City boss, you're getting confused there. I still can't believe it, he moved to Man City. Maybe he really sees them as a Cl winning team, I don't get him, height of stupidity. Time to go Drenthe a chance as he's got the potential to be the next Edgar Davids. I just hope we sign two players in the winter, a winger and a striker, both essential. Hala Madrid!

Hi guys, I followed Robinho Saga throughtout and the following are my thoughts:

Robinho was fed up at Madrid for many reasons, part of the cause being how Madrid bosses threated him and I am angry for this. More later on this.

Selfish Robinho did a press conference on his own (has any player ever done this?) knowing that Chelsea want him. Madrid stood still and did not sell Robinho to them. He clearly said that he wants to move away from Madrid.

Arabs both Man. City on Monday. They wanted to sign big player, they got the money so approached Madrid. Madrid got more money than Chelsea, Man City will not compete in champions league for the next three years, so a deal was done.

Now, did Robinho had any chance to refuse? No after his selfish press conference. If he refused, he would be benched for the rest of the season. So the only option is to leave. He said he wanted to leave, so he couldn't go against his word and stay at Madrid. Stupid Robinho, he just ruined his career there. At least he will play regularly and not be benched like he used to be at Madrid and the same would have happened at Chelsea.

Moving to Chelsea see how many players were ruined, Shawn Right Philips, Schevcenko, Crespo and others. Robinho plays in the same position of Joe Cole, Joe Cole is the idle of english people, Joe Cole is better than Robinho so again Robinho would have been benched as well. And he will not do any samba dance on the ball there since they tackle much harder than Spain. Anyway I wish him luck.

Will he be sold to Chelsea? No. Arabs want to make Man City like Chelsea - buy all players they can find, but for Robinho to play in Champions League than somehow they must overtake Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and possibly Totthenham. Takes time to build a squad Mr. Robinho even if you have all the money on the earth!!

Now correct me if I am wrong...I am angry for our bosses because...

1) Last Sunday Higuan played on the left when he is a striker and often he plays on the right. So why he was on the left? Robben was most of the time on the right.

2) Drenthe came in and went on the right were Drenthe plays on the left!!! Immediately Robben moved to the left..Why?

3) Now let me list the players we have from Midfield onwards. Strikers: Raul / Ruud Van Gol / Higuan / Saviola

Wingers: Robben / Drenthe (he is also left back)

Midfield: Guti / Sneijder, Van Der Vaart / De La Red.

Gago / Diarra for me are Defensive Midfielders.

No for me we don't have enough depth in the squad. If any of the players above gets injured or suspended than we are fucked - as it was evident last Sunday.

Defence wise we are well covered.

What are your views?

Robinho, Robinho. Good Luck at the Eastlands. Tough break for Chelsea. Kenyon is an idiot and now all he has is the Robinho Chelsea shirts. Something else has occured behind the scenes and Calderon and Pedja have gotten the upperhand over everyone. Unfortunate that we didn't sign anyone at the last minute.

I dont think that'll happen . Robinho seems to run for the money not for the a certain club so I'd say he's gonna stick around in the ranks of man city unless Chelsea offers more than 6 million a year for him .. he's a total money "whore"

I was certain that it was Scolari who was the reason. And I got the impression that Robinho is weak and must have friends to "party, party" with. Very young and inmature (hope that's the word). For me it seems that this mess started with the story with Robinho and the 40 condoms.

I hope everything he says will come true...but nobody is bigger than the Club..with all respect for the clubs...He want to win a title for Man City.. why didn't he want to win the C.L. for Real Madrid...better motivation in 3class club Everyone knows that to win a title in EPL the coach must be genius like jose mourihno and M.Hughes with respect of his credibility doesn't have and he is nowhere near the type or a manager like Wenger,Rafa.B.,Jose M.,Sir Alex... even Juande ramos who also has exiting project and lets not spoke of the other challenging team like everton,portsmouth,middlesb,newcastle,a.villa,... The story of chelsea is very different of this new one.. Chelsea was part of the top4 and champions league competitor.. man city doesnt have history doesnt have fanbase..doesn have the passion, which is most imortant thing when joining a club. lets see how his career will develop.. because once he is a flop the yellow shirt will be farther than he thinks... he is not playing for a world class club remember. Robinho did wrong but everyone makes mistakes and he will get it.. To become the best player you have to make your club win the best where you'll be the leader. Have a nice trip Robinho.. see you in brazil in 2 years time...

What an idiot... but this again is proof of the decline of Real Madrid, we are not an attractive proposition four own players never mind new ones. Ronaldo only wanted to come for the money and was hoping united would offer him a better contract because of the Madrid interest. This is proven why what his agent said and also because if u listen to his interviews now hes says happy at united and cant wait to get back in th team unlike berbatov and robinho that said they wouldnt play if they didnt get the transfer...this shows me he was never arsed about us in the 1st place..it was just money..if it was for footballing reasons why would u leave Manchester UTD and come to madrid.. the better weather isnt a footballing reason... then youve got cazorla, villa etc etc! United and Chelsea are the footballing powerhouses, we cant compete!!

Dude, what is with you, I can agree that we can't beat Utd and Chelsea these days but all your other explanations don't make sense, Robinho's left because we didn't value him and for money, as you said, would you move from Madrid to City for sporting reasons? It's a rise of Real Madrid, where do you live, Mars? Our decline took place in the last 6 years, we've gained a lot from Calderon and Mijatovic, as stupid as they may be, who were the ones who made this team go from useless to useful, it was god work and all us fans should appreciate it. Ronaldo may have wanted to move for money but he also saw the chance of playing for the biggest club in history, if he did, it would make him undoubtedly the best, that's his ambition. Robinho and Berbatov are idiots nontheless, I understand Robinho, but switching to United at the age of 27 when you're peaked and could just start your downfall is stupid, look at Shevchenko, he went with big things in his mind, came back with a broken career trying to re-create it at one of the most useless powerhouses. And please, stop believing rumors, all you hear isn't true, Robinho has clearly come out and said a number of times that he would have to play if he stays and that he just thought it was time for a change, which was money. You should really stop undermining your own team so harshly, you don't understand the potential of this team, you call the likes Marcelo, Gago, Garcia, De la Red and Higuain average! Do average youngsters win Euros, Omlympics and do they get picked in UEFA's European XI?(I'm talking about De la Red, he was named in the combined best XI for the tournament) Does that make them average? Hala Madrid!

Marcelo, gago, garcia, de la red and higuain ARE average..come on mate None of them would get in United or Chelseas team!! Ur on planet mars son! EUROS?? Other than casillas and ramos (who I admit are world class) who made a serious contribution to spains victory in the Euros?? Hala Madrid u are so biased its unbleievable!! Pedja is a snake and calderon cant buy no one!! Cristiano wasnt arsed about coming to madrid.. he said himself in an interview during world cup 2006 that he would 'love to play at barca one day and that they are his favourite spanish club'.. lets be honest other than us being more succesful than anyone in the 'old days' of the european cup we're not the biggest team in the world.. i hate to say this man united are!! They are valued waaay more than us financially and have nearly twice as much support across the world as any other sports team.. madrid arent even in the top 5 across the world.. thats from an independent research done by Harvard. Liverpool are 2nd followed by AC milan, Juve then Arsenal.. we're not even mentioned in the study!! Lets get real.. what elevated us was the di stefano days and the galacticos era.. neither are going to return under the current regime!!

He'll go United next year, other than casillas and sneijder we have no to help us compete in the champions league!! Raul is past it, RVN isnt getting any younger... Pepe is so over rated by stupid Real fans that havent seen Ferdinand, Terry or Vidic play. Marcelo, Higuain, De La Red, Gago are all over rated youngsters when you compare them to Pato, Silva, Anderson, Nani, Fabregas, Giovinco, Messi, Aguero and Benzema, and Bojan

Roman will never come. Not after the way Barcelona, and Villareal treated him. He is one of my favorite players. He took Villareal to the Champions League Semis and practically won Boca the Libertadores. Real would never buy him. He's almost 30 and we have Sneijder, Guti and Van Der Vaart who play that role as well. Sad to hear about Robinho. I think he will do well in Manchester.

You cant blame Robinho for wanting to leave after that muppet calderon treated him so badly in the Cristiano situation.. why is no Madrid fan pointing the finger at Calderon?? This club used to mean something but now we're just another average team in europe. What a ridiculous club we have become in the hands of these muppets, at one time we reigned supreme but we have been well and truly overtaken!! I live in Sweden now and everyone in scandinavia talks about Man U last few years. Theyve got that buzz.. no matter what team they put out they try to play the right way.. we dont play nice football.. schuster needs to go so we can play and win like Man U. Why someone want to see only the dark side?
And did not want to see the bright side!
Only the explanations but no suggestions!
Why Eto left us years ago?Why Robinho left?
Because they wanted to rule in a way, man, but we did not alow them to do that, that is the reason!
Nobody can rule Real Madrid!Even Zizou was a part of the team, when we were best!
It is better to have a young unexpirienced but faithfool squad then 100 Robinhos! This year will be hard for us but we can fight !Remember Valencia and 9 players!

Its a fact that Robinho was treated badly by Roman and Pedja and these guys are idiots period! We are not strong enough to win the champions league, lets be frank! The big four in england, juve, inter and barca are favourites ahead of us. We won the league last season bcoz barca had so many off field problems. Player for player they are a better team!! They need to gel.. in the champions league i have to say that Manchester have got the best group of players i have seen since Galacticos and Milan of the early 90's.. we should aspire to have a balanced squad like theirs.. look at their firepower.. Rooney, Tevez, C Ronaldo, Berbatov, Scholes, Giggs, Nani, Anderson(WoW what a player..future Ballon D'or winner) and good back up like Hargreaves, Carrick and Park. We simply cannot compete with that strength.... so WE NEED TO BUY BETTER PLAYERS.. not necessarily stars but proven talent!! What an idiot... but this again is proof of the decline of Real Madrid, we are not an attractive proposition four own players never mind new ones. Ronaldo only wanted to come for the money and was hoping united would offer him a better contract because of the Madrid interest. This is proven why what...

Dude, what is with you, I can agree that we can't beat Utd and Chelsea these days but all your other explanations don't make sense, Robinho's left because we didn't value him and for money, as you said, would you move from Madrid to City for sporting reasons? It's a rise of Real Madrid, where do...

Hala Madrid u are so...

I still won't agree on he youngsters part because I know that the squad we have has oe of the brightest futures along with Arsenals. I'M NOT BIASED, you don't appreciate your own team, they can't do everything you want them to, they're only living matter, they won't function at our will now will they!? What i'm saying is that we're overreacting just because we lost Robinho who will be replaced in the winter by someone better! Lets face it, Robben, VDV and Sneijder are better than Robinho. As for the Ronaldo ting, that just shows..what am I saying, he wants to be the best and he can only do that by going to the greatest ever, ever NOT currently, he's a money hungry punce who would leav if he had more money. And btw, Real Madrid is still the second highest valued team in the world, that's just fact. Support, probably because the English are ery popular. We can prosper again, under the right support, right board and right players but unless allthem work together and stop whining, nothing will happen!
