Calderon Says He Will Sign Two Strikers, Robben Trains Outdoors + Today's roundup

Wednesday, 19 November 08, 10:00 AM · Comments (26)

 Ramon Calderon

Ramon Calderon was a guest on radio program "El Larguero'" in which he talked about many things including Schuster, Mijatovic and signings.

On Mijatovic and Schuster, he said:

"Mijatovic gave his press conference because we read articles that said Schuster was finished. Tha fans needed to know if that was true."

"I've never acted in a cowardly manner. People will be dismissed whenever they have to be dismissed, but that's not the case right now. The fans knew back when I became President that I would never interfere with the Sporting Director's decisions. Mijatovic is the one who would have to decide to dismiss someone, just like he did with Capello. I trust him. Naturally, the Board has to approve his decision."
"There's two things I must point out. The first is the relationship Schuster has with the press. I would prefer him to have a different image, but we can't change that because he was like that before joined Real Madrid. The second is that I just wished to learn about the team's situation. I had a meeting with some players and with the coach to find out what's happening."

I agree that Schuster should have a different attitude with the press. The way he answers questions and interact with journalists is purely unprofessional. He has never made good analysis or admitted any mistakes in his press conferences, he just says the same crap all the time - the crap that I say all the time too.

"The King's Cup elimination shouldn't have happened, but it is no reason for alarm. Chelsea recently conceded four goals against a Fourth Division team and no one's said anything about it. Chelsea and Villarreal fans would have liked their teams to win. Real Madrid hasn't won the King's Cup in 16 years, so I don't think this is a current problem; it has nothing to do with this team, with Schuster or with this Board."

If it has nothing to do with this team, with Schuster or with this board? Then with whom? Seriously? Who played in that match? Real Madrid. Who was the coach? Bernd Schuster. What was the board at that time? The current one.

I fully disagree here. We lost to Real Union in the first leg, and they scored three goals in the second leg. Six goals from the same second division team in just two matches? That was a problem. And we shouldn't be looking at Chelsea or Villarreal, we need to mind our own business. So Calderon, I don't think you are right on this one.

"This team established a new record of points in the league last year, and it was also the top-scoring and least scored upon side in the championship. This is still the same team, just like Barcelona are the same side they were three months ago."
"I'm not saying our work is perfect, but I believe people should give us the benefit of the doubt. I'm also disappointed, but this is't to say we are in a desperate situation. We must remain calm."
"We'll now see if Schuster is capable of changing this situation. I hope he can. Anyway, whatever happens will be Mijatovic's decision. He is experienced enough to know what he must do. I'm just a fan, so I will support whatever he decides."
"The Sporting Directorship of the Club wishes to sign two strikers during the winter transfer window."

Crespo and Drogba are the ones who are likely to come to the Bernabeu. The Argentine has recently talked to AS and had the following to say:

“I have always been excited about European and Spanish football. And when one speaks about Real Madrid, one always associates them with the history of the game,” he replied when asked about his perceptions of Los Merengues.

“When I visited the Bernabéu with Lazio (in the 2000-01 Champions League) we were full of fear and respect, because Madrid were enjoying their best period at that time.

When asked about Gonzalo, he said:

“I first saw (Gonzalo) Higuaín at River Plate and I was convinced that he would become a great player. He thrilled me as a striker.

And on Gago:

“Gago? Well, he has had to carry the burden of being compared to Fernando Redondo. Argentines always like to compare a young player with one in a similar position who has had to retire.

“And as for Raúl, he is a special player. Eventhough he is being criticised, Madrid always look to him when things turn ugly. I think his impact will be felt even more when he decides to end his playing career,”.

So Crespo hasn't denied the rumors linking him to us, and in my opinion, I think Real should go for him. He is a world class striker, he has played with AC Milan, Chelsea, Lazio, Parma, Inter Milan...etc so he knows what it is like to play with a great club like Real Madrid. The 10m euros Inter are demanding for him are not that much, but I'd pay no more than 8m euros.

I think this is a golden opportunity to sign a ready and effective replacement for Ruud, don't you think so?

Another hitman, Didier Drogba, is rumored to be close to the Bernabeu. He was set to leave last summer, but he didn't receive many offers.

If we sign him, he won't play in the Champions League, but that won't be an issue. We could use Rau'l and Higuain in the Champions League and Drogba in La Liga.

Chelsea would normally ask for top dollar, so I think the negotiations would take a long time to come to a result.

Anyway, I have got some good news. Arjen Robben has trained outdoors today wearing a bandage on his right leg. He seems to be recovering well from the Grade II muscle tear on the right soleus. He also jogged and did some ball work with Metzelder, always supervised by recovery expert Carlos Lalín.

With eleven men away on international duty, there were only Higuaín, Salgado, Saviola, Raúl, Guti and Javi García in Valdebabes.

They worked under the supervision of fitness trainer Jordi García and recovery expert Santi Lozano. They jogged, did some stretching exercises and ednded the session with some workouts in the gym. Meanwhile, Dudek trained with keeper coach Pedro Jaro.

Former Madridistas Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo ‘scored’ against poverty for the sixth time amongst friends in Fez (Morocco).

I didn't watch the match, but it is good again to see those legends. Ronaldo's team won 6-5. Miguel Torres and Codina were the only players from Real Madrid.

Well, thats about it for today. Keeping up with a club like Real Madrid is a pretty dang job - I'm tired. More later.

Hala Madrid!

calderon needs to fire the sporting director then himself haha
The board must approve my ass.....you think if the hold a board meeting now they won't tell him and his posse to get packing. I'm sure the members of real madrid are tired of calderon and crew. None of his elections promises came through, that alone he should be overthrown for. The club needs a new president someone who is young and fresh with plenty ideas and not corrupted.

why is no one talking about jesus navas from seville he is a good young player who is a RM, young, and has played with sergio ramos so they should work well together. In my opinion he is better than capel who im sorry but even though he has a great heart and passion for the game he seems like he is a little out of control sometimes navas could give more to Real. Also Nilmar from internacional a player much like higuain he is a very good young talent and has already played with lyon. These are the types of players that Real should be getting players that know how to play the style Real want to play, young and can play in the champs league. and what is this i hear about Real being interested in Vučinić i think Saviola is better and if that retarded shuster won't even play saviola than how would Vučinić play but knowing shuster he would play him instead of Saviola and Arshavin coming to Real you got to be kidding me he is gonna get punished just like he got shut down in the UEROs he is NOT Real standard.

I think Crespo is the best AVAILABLE striker we have now. Remember that we are looking into the short-term so I'd say he'd be a good signing.

Navas is a good player, yes. If I'm not mistaken, his usual position is on either the left or right wing and we need someone who plays there as we no longer have Robinho.

As for Vucinic, he is okay, but not the type of player that Real would need to get

Let me tell you something funny about Jesus Navas, the poor guy has issues abour leaing Sevilla, why do you think nobody's taken him from them, he barely ever plays in their away games :P He has an anxiety issue and is scared to leave Sevilla, thus, he can't come. As for Crespo, he wouldn't be the best available striker. If you look at it, even with Ruud we were having problems and getting Crespo would make no sense as he's aging and has no pace. We need a fast, smart and agile striker. And there are many out there with those qualities like Huntelaar, Adriano and Lavezzi. We need a right winger more than a striker to be honest as we don't score because there's nobody effective on the wings, atleast not on both of them. We would work MUCH better with two wingers in the same XI. Hala Madrid! =D

I can't understand why everyone who post in this blog is called as madridista?!

My opinion regarding Calderon, is that looking back to the calendar, he wouldn't keep coach up till january, because december will be extremely hard and maybe dreadfull for Real. All these excuses would be nothing after at least 2 defeates in december.. I am tired of his promises which he says in order to save his place.. common, he eeded to hire them at summer!

P.S (am...maybe he tried though but noone wanted to join his team with such coach =D )

Crespo would not be a good buy. He has no pace. His Lazio days are behind him. I think he should pack up and go back to Argentina to River Plate. Another Inter player may be Adriano. He is unsettled because Mr. 1-0 Mourinho wont play him. He is good in the air he is a big and he has found his form. I think Inter may let him go cheap too. We need a defender. After seeing Brazil trounce Portugal 6-2 We should go after Thiago Silva. He really impressed me. But Inter and Milan are already circling so Pedja needs to get to brazil and negotiate with Fluminese. Thiago would pair up well with Marcelo seeing as they played together.

yea i know that Navas has that problem but i heard he has been working on it so who knows. But José Ernesto Sosa could also be a good fit, the point is that there are alot of good playets out there but Calderon and Mijatovic are trying to get these players that are not going to leave during the Janurary transfer window and even if they did Shuster doesn't know what to do with talent.

I agree completly...Vucinic is VERY VERY over-rated we definatly don't need him.Other players which can be good buys besides the ones you mentioned I think are Zarate(who has been brilliant),Balotelli,Rossi and on the wing Sweinstiger (who's contract is about to expire).

=D My friend you are so smart i need to buy U a drink,, i am trying to tell everyone here that not all coach can coach talent,, Schuster is a good coach but he just cannot coach tallent.... WELL SAID MY FRIEND... Look at Harry Rednap, he is a good coach to get the best out of certain players and to save teams from relegation but he will never be called to coach a team like AC Millian, Real Madrid, Barca, Man U or Chealsea,, because he is not that type of coach to coach certain tallent.

I don't understand what ppl is thinking...Crespo was a top player but now in Inter he is behind Ibrahimovic Obinna Adriano Balotelli even Cruz and he is never picked. If we need to match great teams in the champions league we shouldnt buy players from the reserves of Inter. As I understand it Adriano is not happy at not getting regular football...Then you have Arsenal which is falling apart...I wouldn t mind gettin van persie in Real, and prob tevez could be tempted since he had his place taken from Berbatov. There are so many better options. Just like Milan they got shevchenko back just to be a bench warmer. Surely a club of real's stature should recognize good or bad deals...and crespo for 8-10 million is not a good one...his contract ends in the summer too and it is unlikely they will offer him another one.

As for drogba...No way Real is getting him...but even if they could I again dont believe it is the best option. We need to get a player who is passionate and had much to prove.
Lastly I would prefer to see a right winger bought for the team and ofcourse a defender since that is the most problematic area of the team.
