Cristiano Ronaldo : I'm Staying at Manchester United

Written by Adam Bader on Thursday, 07 August 08, 08:11 AM

This morning, news from the Spanish media reported that Ronaldo has indeed pledged his future to Manchester United. This ends the saga that was started since the start of the transfer window between the Whites and the childish Ronaldo.

In an interview with Publico, the Portuguese star takes blame for everything and take responsibility for the damages done to the relationship between Real Madrid and Manchester United. He stated that at some stage he really wanted to join Real Madrid and knew they made a large bid for him but due to his team's unwillingness to sell him it was not possible. Ronaldo also said that he will honor the shirt he currently wears thus denying that he will be forced to play and will prove his worth all over again.

"Ferguson heard my arguments, I heard his and, in fact, it was settled that the best for both parties would be for me to stay. Therefore, I can confirm that, next season, I will play for Manchester United," he told Publico.
"And, before rumours emerge saying that I will play against my will, I want to make this clear: whoever says or writes that is lying. I will play for Manchester with all my heart and soul. I will fight and honour that shirt with the same commitment and dedication as always."
"I want to assume the responsibility for all this controversy," Ronaldo added. "It was not their fault because I was the one who publicly expressed my desire to go to Real Madrid. I ended up being, even involuntarily, the responsible one for the poor relationship between the two clubs."
"I knew that Real Madrid were interested in signing me and that they had allegedly made a very high offer to Manchester United. My desire was, for some time, that Manchester had accepted my transfer to Madrid. Saying otherwise would be to trick people and my own consciousness," he noted.

Ronaldo has also stated that his dream hasn't changed and still want to play for the Spanish giants and does not rule out a move in the near future.  So I guess the case is settled, the saga is over and now we can rest in peace and so does Robinho!.

Now for another issue, Roma have expressed their interest in Real's player Baptista once again after their match against Egyptian team Al-Ahly. In an interview with AS,  Roma's boss said that he would love to see Baptista a player on his squad, stating he will do a great job there and will help the team on their venture. After Van Der Vaart joined the team, I don't think Baptista has a place on the team any more, he did not show his worth and I would see the trade beneficial for all three parties.

Now I respect Ronaldo. I have always called him a coward, a kid, a jackass because he didn't come out like this and said what he wants. He is staying at Man UTD which I'm happy about, Real now should deal with Robinho whom they humiliated. I hope he will stay, but if he goes I will not blame him, Real were arrogant and disrespectful to him.

I kinda disagree , I don't have any respect for ronaldo now ... he's been bitching around wanting to join Real . He shouldn't say something he cant do .

I'm glad Ronaldo finally gave it a rest yet something in me still wants to see him wearing the famous white shirt, oh well, we'll try again next year :P And Yayy, Robinho stays, hooray :D Now we just need to get a nice young striker who would be Higuain's future partner, I would go for Benzema, he would be affordable and willing to come and he can make a name in the starting XI too, Hala Madrid

Vila has proven himself to be a world class striker, but I don't think Benzema is quite ready for first team football at Real Madrid.

No, I think Benzema would adapt quickly because he is already established and a professional footballer. The thing is that, Lyon are asking for a lot of money. Another reason, I'm with the Villa option is that he is Spanish, more experienced, still young, and above all he already knows La Liga.

I would like someone in here tell me if they was a professional soccer player that they wouldn't want to play for R.Madrid. I have to understand C.Ronaldo's approach, he is 23, still young and is currently in contract for a football [soccer] team, so he had to respect his Man U fans, if he was much bold in speaking out against Man U that would be so disrespectful and i would not support such an outrage act. Anyway he stated his dream is still playing for R.Madrid and who's dreams are not??? David Villa D.O.B is Dec. 3. 1981. He is 27 in a few. However i agree R.Madrid had disrespected Robinho i feel sorry for him, i don't think he should want to leave R.Madrid, what he should do is try to play at his best this season and have a greater season than last year and put the R.Madrid bored to shame [especially Calderon]..... I feel sorry for C.Ronaldo not achieving his dreams

No Ronaldo, hurts doesn't it?... Silly Real Madrid

Van der Vaart is hardly a worthy alternative. The boy is never going to reach the potential that was once thought from him.

Hurt's the Board and Calderon but not the fans. Van Der Vaart is a good alternative althogh I would have prefered Diego. He is good with both feet, can play practically anywhere in midfield and he knows how to score goals. He may not be as flashy as C. Ronaldo but he can get the job done. As for Robinho it is a shame how Real did not acknowledge him and used him. I hope he stays and proves why he deserves what ever he is asking for but I think the temptation from Chelsea is too much.

No, not every player wants to play for Real Madrid. I don't like the concept that If a player doesn't want to play for us then he is not a good player. For example, we approached Totti many times and every time we did he refused, why? Because he owes his life to another club;AS Roma. The same goes for Rau'l, Del Piero, you can't get those kind of players. Ronaldo's dream since he was a child has been playing for us. The problem was, that I critisized him for heavily that he didn't come out as he did today and explained the whole thing. He just let it go, and let everyone curse the other.

However, I still believe that Real doesn't depend on Ronaldo. If he comes, the squad will get stronger, and there will be financial returns, If he doesn't, another will come and the squad will get stronger as well. This is football for you. My wish is, signing a player should be done in a friendly manner not in the way Calderon, Fergie and Ronaldo himself have tried to apply this summer. Just look at how AC Milan snatched Ronaldinho and you will see what I mean.

No it doesn't hurt, and why it should? We have Robben, Robinho, Sneijder (injured), Guti, Van Der Vaart and Van Nistelrooy. Aren't those folks enough? Or they are not world class?

Mate, I don't think that Diego will ever succed with Real. I just don't see him as a player who could lead a team like Real, a player who could play in a league like the Spanish league. It is not easy, just look at Robinho and how long did it take him to be the "current" Robinho, a couple of seasons I guess.

How long did it take Nistelrooy to kick-ass? Just a couple of matches, you see, thats called "class". The same goes for Sneijder who started scoring goals in the first few matches on the League, and I think Van Der Vaart would adapt quickly.

I see your point. When I look at Metzelder coming from the Bundesliga I dont think he has still adapted to Spanish football. However Diego is still young and may adapt but like you said it will take time. Who do you think should come or should have come if Robinho leaves?

Other than Ronaldo, I think Sneijder would just take his place and Van Der Vaart would play in the midfield with Guti or Diarra or Gago. Another option is Drenthe whom I think is a fantastic player. He is super fast, but maybe he lack some ball control. Nevertheless, he would do the job.

I'm happy that everything was cleared up but I think this is something that should have come a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised with everything Ronaldo said to clear the situation up. Now that CR7 is not coming we should look for a striker. The debate seems to be Villa or Benezema. I honesty believe we should go for Villa right now. He is the striker that is most likely to be sold this summer. Valencia are in debt and need the money. He is also in perfect form coming out of the Euros. He also is Spanish which is a plus. It would be fitting that he would replace Raul. In all honesty i dont see Benzema being sold till next summer and we can go for him then, as he can be Ruuds replacement.

How come he is staying? That could be possible if Valencia offers him top dollar or bring in world class players lets say two or three which is extreamly impossible right now. Naah, I think he aint staying and Real is his favorite destination;it all depends on Calderon

If a player wants to leave then let him leave , we will get better than him someday. I'm not saying we don't need robinho now but if he wants to leave then so be it .And please don't judge the Administration of the club based on what the media portraits .. you don't know half the truth .. maybe its Robinho's fault then again its might be Calderon's fault .. nobody knows
