Cristiano Ronaldo Picks Shirt Number "9"

Wednesday, 14 January 09, 04:03 AM · Comments (90)

Ronaldo Real Madrid Shirt

That could be true, because the English press (the trusted one) is reporting that he has registered a new trademark "CR9". His current one, which is printed on his shirts, is "CR7" which is basically his initials and shirt number (that he wears at Man UTD), but if he leaves for Real Madrid, he'll then need to change it as Rau'l, Real's legend, owns the shirt number "7".

"The digits "CR9" were copyrighted last month in his Portuguese homeland to be used on merchandise or as the name for a restaurant or bar. The Telegraph, explains"

"CR9 was registered by his agent Jorge Mendes at the National Institute of Industrial Property in Lisbon. Ronaldo has already registered CR7."

What makes true is the situation Javier Saviola, who wears the number 9, is in. Having failed to impress anyone at the club, Saviola is set to leave probably as part of Antonio Valencia's deal.

Personally, and as I have said many times on this blog, we are NOT in a big need for RONALDO, I'd rather sign Ribery who would cost us less than 120m euros that Real are reportedly offering to Ronaldo.

This saga makes me sick.

End rant.

This saga makes me sick. :D hahaha
He said many times that he wants to play for Real, but the only reason is Alex Ferguson because he don`t want to let him go in Madrid.
Maybe in summer this will be posible, but hey who knows.
Lets wait and see what happens.
PS Nice choice CR9 I like that.

I really hope that we don't get ronaldo, because as i have previosly said in many other posts we can buy two players who will make real madrid much stronger than ronaldo will and they will cost less. with the state of the current squad i would say these two players should be benzema and ribery. we could even buy a top class defender and all three combined may be cheaper than ronaldo.

i felt the same last summer when we went for ronaldo, i thought madrid should have bought didier drogba and essien (in my view the best all round CM in the game). this was at the time that i thought we were keeping robinho so we would have had robinho, essien, diarra, robben in midfild with drogba/ruud and higuain/raul up front.

You may all have your own opinions but mine is the buying benzema and ribery will be better, in the short run and the long, than just buying ronaldo. if we buy ronaldo and benzema that would be even better but i doubt we have the money to. (i think this must be my 1000th argument about why we shouldn't buy ronaldo).

Reasl summer targets if i was in mijatovic's shoes: benzema, ribery and Chivu/Chiellini

lol if that happens i'll be happy from one side that alex Fartuson will die from the shock 8O and if CR9 will come to Real madrid one positive side will be good for us that he will bring so much sponsors with him like the days when Beckham came to Real, personally I hope that Ribery and Karim Benzema come instead to Real and if Benzema goes to Barca it's gonna be hard to win them...
Hope not :D Hala Madrid!

If he comes, whatever. If he doesn't, good.

I saw this at the Republik of Mancunia a while ago - I don't normally go there - LINK - and you know, it really pisses me off that if you read it, Ramon Calderon's stance throughout was "if he wants to come, we'll have him, but it depends on United". We've been played, guys, we've been made to look like the evil ones while Man Utd are the victims. For me, the fault for the transfer saga lies squarely with Ronaldo.

For that alone, I don't want him. There's also the issue that while the height of Perez's reign is associated with Zidane, Zidane was a fine, humble, gentlemanly player. If Ronaldo comes, maybe he'll do great things, maybe he'll score a fantastic winning goal in a Champions League final, maybe he'll even see out his career with Real Madrid despite not winning anything for three years, but no matter his playing skill, unless he stops being an arrogant dipshit, I don't want him associated with Real Madrid for all eternity.

Right now, as things stand, I believe history will judge Ronaldo harshly for his antics over the summer. If he comes now, it reflects more badly on us than it does on him.

Then there are so many unknown variables. No one can deny the impact Sir Alex has had on his career. Can any other manager, besides perhaps Carlos Queiroz, handle him and use him to his full potential? Remember that while he has a good relationship with Scolari, that has meant little for his performances with Portugal. How will he fit into Real Madrid right now? Juande Ramos is not likely to build a team around Ronaldo, not while we have an equally talented winger on the other side of the pitch, and not while Huntelaar and Higuain need to develop to replace Raul and Ruud.

Altogether, it's really just not worth it. Get someone who wants to be here for the team, not to satisfy his ego.

It was the best I ever read! You just put your finger on the point.
I also hate Ronaldo. So bad that I don't even want to puke on him.
I think that Ferguson holds him so fast because Sir Alex don't want a new Gazza-history. So, hold on Sir Alex!

CR9 is a joke. The only true number 9 is Ronaldo not C. Ronaldo. We need to put this behind and forget about CR7 comming to Madrid. We need is another defender another winger and a striker. Saviola has to move on. I hate to see him on the bench. he should maybe head to Italy or back to Argentina are jump start his career. With him gone that leaves room for a striker whether it be Benzema or some one else we will have to see. Personally I could go either way. I would love to see Ribery come and It is plausible for us to bid on him. I think Ribery and another Defender should be priority next summer.

I don't think you bothered to read what any of us had said, you ignorant fool. We don't want your lousy Ronaldo, we want Ribery! What is with the arrogance of these Utd-Barca fans? They think just because they've won a CL or are top of the League they can come and brag about it. Be humble you losers! Just look at you saying Spain and Italy are B leagues. The Premier League, outside the Top 4 is a mighty joke. And it's a proven fact that the rest of the 16 teams in Spain, Italy and at time Germany are much stronger than English teams. Take Sevilla's consecutive UEFA Cups, Getafe's Semi, Zenit's win...where have the English teams been. What a lot of people need to understand is that a league is made of more than 4 teams and Italy and Spain, in that respect are far superior to the limited EPL. Hala Madrid! =D

Hey, first things first we need to make sure we sign Valencia before the end of the month. No, i don't think he's amazing, however he is a good player and also an extra option we could do with on the wing.

Ribery would be a great buy next season. He can play several positions to a high standard and doesn't have the price tag or troublesome reputation that Cristiano Ronaldo has.

Regarding C. Ronaldo, i think REAL MADRID have been the lucky ones. With the exception of the odd choice performance C. Ronaldo has been mediocre this season. Also he's whined at referees about not getting any "protection" when he's been physically challenged by other players. If he played like that for us with our impatient supporters and press we would have destroyed him. Also, MADRID would have been laughed at for spending too much money on him.

Bottom line, C. Ronaldo has no place at REAL MADRID. He wouldn't and couldn't handle the pressure of playing for REAL MADRID. Plus he could wreck the dressing room morale.

Let's just hope our club officials realize this.

HALA MADRID!!!

Neearly every madrid fan DOESN'T want Crapiano Ronaldo at Madrid. I too hope that the club officials relises what a mistake it would be to sign ronaldo. Everyone here seems to prefer ribery over ronaldo and that is who madrid should go for. the only problem that real madrid will have with ribery is that they will need to constrain him whenever he is near the team bus. =D

As someone previously said we need players who have passion for playing for madrid i.e. ribery, benzema and not players who are there just to satisfy their ego. hoprfully robben will stay fit this season and prove that he is much better than the pile of horse manure that crashes ferraris and dates hookers, currently wearing the number 7 shirt at old trafford.

I think that if real madrid really do want a superstar in the team they should spend there money on kaka. He is the only one out of the top 3 that deserves to wear th real madrid shirt. an amazing player on the pitch and just as good a person off it. as a madridista i would wake up happy everyday with kaka in our side. for me he is the greates player in the world that is currently still playing. Kaka and Ribery would take real madrid to a level where no club (other than maybe real madrids galacticos) has been

No way Ricky is going to Eastlands. He is happy with Milan and Kaka plays for the Champions League. Man City is in the relegation zone while milan are ten points of the pace of Inter and three away from Juve. Milan is rebuilding their squad they just bought two under 25 defenders and there are talks of bringing Agger from Liverpool. Milan will only get better Kaka is not going anywhere. He plays for the badge and not for the name on the back of the shirt like some other player from Manchester. I can only wish we had Kaka, but he would never come to Madrid because Madrid are not as loyal to their players as Milan are.

Thats why madrid needs a new president who is loyal to his players. i.e. like Florentino Perez. Zidane and Carlos have come out and said how much respect they have for him whereas anyone who has left real madrid under calderon has had swipe at the madrid hierachy. I hope kaka either retires at milan or comes to real madrid. If he has rejected the offer from man city like you say he has, it is because of the reputation of the club. had it been real madrid offering him a contract, it could have been another story

I think it's highly unlikely. The name Real Madrid has a certain amount of pull but AC Milan are definitely a great club.

My local newspaper had Kaka quoted as saying "I want to grow old at Milan", and wanting to become Milan captain.

I don't think he'll go anywhere, barring extenuating circumstances. Milan has been very good to him, they're still one of the top clubs in Europe, and he's the kind of guy who repays loyalties. I don't see why he would leave Milan for Real Madrid.

Kaka also said that as long as milan's ambitions match his own he will stay and if they accepted a bid then he would be open to a move. or something along them lines. firstly milan need money so a very high offer will most probably be accepted. note that the figure that is being mentioned is about twice the amount of zidanes transfer fee or maybe more. secondly milans signing of ronaldinho has made kaka less effective and he is unhappy with the role he now plays. he has to do more "donkey work" whereas ronaldinho plays further up the pitch. The two of them can't both play to their full effectiveness in the same team. Also milan have their new golden boy in "Pato". These are just the reasons why milan could accept the offer and if the club accepts an offer what can Kaka do? If it was upto him he would retire at milan but he is being realitic and said that if the club accepts an offer then he may think about leaving.

Also Daniel, yes we do not need an attacking midfielder or any attackers but I would without a doubt get rid of Guti and Van der Vaart and even raul for attackers like Tevez, Benzema and especially Kaka. what most people are failing to realise is that players of this calibre give teams another dimension. by signing players like di maria, huntelaar, diarra we can gt to chelsea's level where there is a team of awesome players but if you look at liverpool, barca, united and milan they all have 2 players who are amongst the best in their position and this gives them another dimension to their attack

Also i am sure man united are the team with the highest amount of debt. at the start of last season they were about £600m in debt. maybe arsenal are the only team that will survive the financial crisis with wenger's very tight pocket

Perez has proved he can take real madrid to the top and i am sure that he wont be making the same mistakes again. many people forget what he did...

Knows how to take us to the top? You're being very very foolish. He won us 3 major titles in his entire tenure! That's pathetic, give Calderon eight years and I bet you he'll do better.(I still hat Calderon) Perez was a disgrace to this club, he was racist, stupid and all he made was a brand. I mean common, selling Eto'o and Makelele because they were black, not signing Ronaldino because he was black! All he made was a brand and I for one can't stand him. We were NOT the best or feared team in the world, those were the REAL Galacticos, The Hierro, Makelele and Raul ones not the Figo, Beckham and Ronaldo ones. That's taking someone else's hard work. Perez did nothing for the club except remove its debt. He was a useless president and there's realy no arguing it. If you say Calderon is bad then Perez is no doubt the worst. Hala Madrid!

Well it is being reported now that Ramon Calderon has made a U-turn and has decided and will not resign and will be president until end of season atleast

Personally, I'd much rather see Nemanja Vidic in a Real jersey than Cristiano Ronaldo.

But that's just my opinion.

United fan in peace.
I clicked through this link on my iGoogle page, just wanted to get real (not Real) Madrid fans opinion on this.
Now, being British we have heard this story now constantly for 1/2 years now and being a United fan I obv am pretty p**sed off, with your club, chairman (he is an idiot aint he?) and the man Ronaldo himself.

What as Real fans do you think fo this proposed deal and the transfer fees being banded around? In light of the Kaka-Manchester City saga, would you all be prepared for your club to pay £100 mill plus? Do you want him at your club etc etc

Just interested in sensible replys, flamers and the clueless need not apply

Unfortunately for you Madrid fans he will be an United legend :P

A little friendly banter's ok though!!

I hope Cristiano Ronaldo never, ever, ever, ever leaves Manchester United. No other club could manage having his name on the payroll. By that I mean that Ronaldo is not going to get a better opportunity to become a legendary player than at Man U.

Let's not take his performances into account. If he comes to Real (sigh), we'll still deal with it, but the spectre of the events of last summer will always hang over his head. When you look at the way former Madrid greats and the current crop of Madrid players (ignoring Robinho and the obvious issues there) have conducted themselves in public and with the press in addition to their performances on the pitch, it's so hard to see how Ronaldo could ever win over the hearts of Real Madrid fans on and off the pitch. It's really not as if we are so starved of talent that we absolutely, really, definitely need him or anything like that!

As for the transfer fees - absolutely not (and another reason why I hope he doesn't come). Let's go by the Zidane benchmark. We all know during that period, prices were inflated (partly our fault). Zidane, Figo, Buffon - those players are absolute class. Are Ronaldo and Kaka better than them? I wouldn't say so - they're the equivalent in today's game, but not worth more. If prices then were inflated, what now? The values we are seeing aren't inflated "naturally" like they were in 2000. They're that high because of the influx of money at Chelsea and now at Man City.

You're at an auction, and a T-shirt is going for $10. People bid, and it rises to $30. Is a T-shirt worth $30? Probably not, but clearly a lot of people want it, so the price rises. Suddenly someone comes and bids $10,000, not because it's worth that much, but because he can. So he's got his T-shirt, but now what? How is that $10,000 shirt going to live up to its price tag in the ways that matter? (I'm aware Man City will probably make a lot from shirt sales. But trophies - the return on their investment they should be looking for?)

I am a Barcelona fan, but if he is going to come to Madrid, he may do some good for them and take the title away from Barca. BTW, I heard that Ribery is coming to Barca so thats really good

CR9? what the hell,i would rather die than to let that trouble maker come to play with Real Madrid, with the money Madrid offered which is 120 MILLION EUROS,we could buy 4 super star players: Villa,Silva,Ribery and Benzema, truely this is insane,i am just hoping that Alex Fergurson convince C.Ronaldo...

I dont know what you Madridistas want either he comes or leaves, but thats goung to be trouble for Barca for two reasons. One is that he is good. And Two If he goes to Madrid, Ribery will go to Manchester
