Numancia Vs Real Madrid | La Liga Preview

Friday, 30 January 09, 04:06 AM · Comments (24)

Numancia Vs Real Madrid - La Liga | Saturday, 31 January 2009, 22:00 CET | Los Pajaritos

Although Juande Ramos' men have won five consecutive league matches so far, they haven't yet overtaken Barcelona as the arch-rivals have also been winning matches and in style as well.

And since Real's fixture list is similar to Barca's, with the Whites taking on the team Barca have faced in the previous match, it is then Numancia's turn to host the Whites who have one goal in mind; winning and taking the three points.

While it seems difficult to win the league, the team should continue playing well as that will help them prepare for the Champions League clash against Liverpool. And you never know, Barcelona might slip up and the point difference gets reduced.

Numancia

Numancia are still the only team who managed to beat Barcelona. That was in Round 1 of La Liga when Barca weren't well-prepared to say the least.

Although they had a good first half against the Catalans in their recent fixture last Saturday, they eventually went down 4-1. Still they are a team not to be underestimated and they'll prove it tomorrow night -- it is not easy to play them at their own stadium. We also have to consider that they have won all of their recent three home matches.

Recent Matches

  • Jan 24 Barcelona 4-1 Numancia
  • Jan 17 Sevilla 1-0 Numancia
  • Jan 11 Numancia 2-0 Getafe
  • Jan 04 Recreativo Huelva 3-1 Numancia
  • Dec 21 Numancia 4-3 Real Valladolid

Real Madrid

As of writing this, Juande hasn't announced his squad list, but it looks like that second-captain Guti and goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek will miss the encounter due to their respective injuries. While Daniel Parjeo has rejoined the team, but it is uncertain if he is fit or will be called up.

Javier Saviola who was dropped out of the squad list last week might miss this one too as Ramos is seemingly not counting on him at all. You may also add Marcelo to the "black list".

Squad lists are unpredictable. We just can't know who is gonna be called up and who is not, so we'll have to wait for Juande to tell us.

In all cases, though, the lineup should be something like this:

  Casillas

Ramos    Pepe   Cannavaro   Heinze

   Lass        Gago

Robben              Sneijder

 Higuain    Rau'l

I'd love for Huntelaar and Van der vaart to start in this match, because the first needs to play in order to adapt and the later needs to be given more chances to prove himself. But with Juande having faith in captain Rau'l, who is one goal away from leveling Afredo Di Stefano's legendary record, and Higuain, who is still the team's top-goal-scorer, it is unlikely that they'll start.

Prediction

As I said, Numancia will not be easy to beat let alone in their own stadium. However, having players like Robben and Higuain as well as a technical genius like Juande makes the difference. With that in mind, I'm sure we are gonna win this one:

2-0 whoever scores.

Now it is your turn to tell me your thoughts on the game.

Hala Madrid!

Juande NEEDS to start playing the Hunter, that's the only way he'll adapt. It's only fair to bench Higuain or Raul for one match though Raul only needs one more. VDV has done better than Sneijder in his sub appearances and should be allowed a start. Though, i'm beggining to think we're lacking the passing of Guti, there's nobody on our damn team with vision like his and we really need those killer passes again but that means we'll have to mess with the formation. Lass and Gago form a fantastic partnership but to introduce Guti we would have to play something like 4-2-1-3 which is a rare formation. I'm gonna also gonna go for a 2-0, Raul with both. Hala Raul, Hala Madrid! :)

Agreed that Guti provides killer assists, but most of the time, he is inconsistent. That's what holding him back from one of the best in the world.

Well, I wouldn't blame him, he sprouted late in his career and that was problem. He was always made to sit on the nech by the likes of Zidane and Figo. But the other day, I saw the demolition of Valladollid from last season and I really saw how important Guti is, we need to find cover for that position because the lad's 32. Hala Madrid! :D

i agree with you,Guti is crucial and i think we already have his cover thats De La Red so we dont have to worry, for tomorrow's match which isnt hard at all especially if we have a player like Robben,Raul will definetly do his best in leveling that record and breaking it too :P
Real Madrid is lacking a true striker,i think Higuain is a normal one not like Villa,Benzema,Aguero those are true forwards and we should have one of them.
I will predict 3-0,Raul,Robben and Sneijder.
HALA MADRID! :D

I think VDV will start for Sneijder...I think he's proven himself that he does deserve to be in the starting 11 :D ...about the winger thing I think a winger is crucial...more than anything considering the form Sneijder is in :?

No doubt, they can play in that position but sadly both are not at the best time of their careers and both lack the creative qualities that the likes of Xavi and Guti have. VDV has vision but he needs to prove he can use it for us now. De la Red though is more of a Redondo type player and I don't see him as a playmaker.

UPDATE: Juande has left out Drenthe and Miguel Torres for the inclusion of Saviola. Could this mean that he's planning on resting a striker? Here's the list: Casillas, Codina, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Heinze, Salgado, Marcelo, Lass, Gago, Robben, Sneijer, Javi Garcia, Van der Vaart, Raúl, Higuaín, Saviola and Huntelaar. I feel sorry for Drenthe though, despite not being Arjen Robben, he's helped us and the fans are being unjust to boo him. This is why we are renowned for being intolerant and stupid. Hopefully, he proves his worth. Hala Madrid!

De la Red is a playmaker. He played that role when he was on loan at Getafe. The games that he has played with us he was used more as a defensive midfield player. De la Red has a good touch and a good vision. Van der Vart needs to start and Sneijder need to be benched.

I was impressed with Drenthe during the Barcelona match. He gave their defense a few headaches. Drenthe needs more playing time to grow. There is no doubt he has talent but we may need to loan him out this comming season. Maybe he can go back to the Netherlands or maybe Italy. I agree that we shouldn't boo him. He is trying hard.

well I think he's not bad he has strong shooting and he can pass well , they call him in France the TGV (train a grand vitesse) which means high speed train =D ,hope he'll fit well to the team and let's hope he wont get injured because he had a serious injury in his career, by the way he's the kind of player who's unstoppable in a counter-attack, he can take the pace and launch his long pass well and in this video you can see him.

At first I am sory Adam,I didn,t understand what did you mean in the last post only after your reply to one of the fans.
I think if the players give their best performance they will win the match and scores more than two,but the problem is that there is no stbility in performance from the players as a team or indiviuals exept two,Roben and Casillas.

CONFIRMED: West Ham have confirmed that they have accepted a loan bid of 1.5m for Julien Faubert with an option of buying him at the end of the season for 6m. Personally, I think it's an alright signing considering he's very pacey, knows how to dribble and has a good shot. I guess Juande saw something in him and Juande seems like he knows what he's doing. ThankYou Madridista4 for the initial report :)

What have we become? We were being linked to a winger all winter and at the start there were encouraging signs that real madrid will be very strong after this transfer window and buy a top class winger. Real madrid have made my head spin, we have gone from the likes of ribery, di maria, young, valencia to people like pennant and now finally julien faubert. if we are that desperate for a winger why not recall nieto, buy back granero (not really a winger but still...), use the cantrera for goodness sake!!!!!!!!

That said. i still wish good luck to faubert. Also, sneijder doesn't need to be benched, he has just come back from a long injury and i suggest we give him time on the pitch to regain that sneijder magic. VDV may be more talented but sneijder is the better player. But i agree with you if you are suggesting that sneijder be benched for this match only. i think that due to the conditions it will be better for sneijder to come off the bench and i would also like to see if VDV has managed to adapt enough to be a regular starter

Guti is very very replaceable. he has superb vision thats all and de la red and VDV have that too like someone said. his passing is very very inconsistant. he may do world class passes but too often he gives the ball away with his stupid passes. If youlook at the match that VDV shone for us you will see that de la red played a big part in the goals due to his vision. i see de la red as a xabi alonso type of player and we need to give him more of a chance to play and develop

Saviola is being taken just in case of the conditions. i think it is a good decision as he is fast and overall a decent player who can cause numancia problem. i would love to see huntelaar and higuain start the match but i doubt it because we still need our captain to play

I can see that formation working but it would be better to have sneijder, VDV or parejo in that central position instead of guti. thats where these 3 will be most effective.
the formation willhave to be like a 4-2-3-1 something like:

------------Casillas

Ramos----Pepe----Cannavaro----Heinze

---------Lass-------Gago

Robben------Sneijder-------Higuain

-----------Raul/Hunter

I predict 3-0 with goals from Robben, Raul and Higuain
