IL Capitano, Rau'l has spoken out today. He talked about many things most importantly about his future and the rumors that have been floating around.
On David Villa's signing he said:
“Villa is one of the best strikers in Europe today. And it is not true that I prevented his move. I do not decide these things."
“I only have an opinion, which I must give as a player and the captain of this team,”
Some papers, apparently, have suggested that Rau'l is more than a player or captain at Real Madrid, he actually interferes with management issues and decides on matters that are not of his business.
They also go on and claim that he blocked Villa's move mainly because he would lose his place in the starting eleven. More ever, because Villa replaced him in Spain's squad.
If there is one thing I know about Rau'l, is that he is the most honest, honored and respectable player I've ever seen in my life. Have you ever heard about any scandals? Problems with coaches and officials? This is crap, what the papers are saying.
So Rau'l came out and denied everything about Villa's move and I believe him. What basically happened was that Valencia were asking for 80m euros and Real were only offering 50m euros. And If Rau'l was against it, Real wouldn't have made a last-minute offer for Villa.
Next, he talked about his future at the club. I have been suggesting that a younger player should replace Rau'l from now on because he can't play every single game. However, I'm not saying that he should retire or something, I'm just saying that there is no point in exhausting the player himself (physically & psychologically). A rotation system would work well for everybody and we saw that in our last game.
Well, he ageres with me:
“I will have at least three more years in Madrid, which is what I have on my contract, and from then on I will go year by year and see how things go,” Rau'l said.
“But now, I am just taking things day by day, although it will become more customary to see me on the bench during games.
“I have spent 14 years in football, playing many games. I have always been there to help the team, sometimes coming off the bench, other times as a starter. There will be no problems,” he confessed.
“When I go five games without a goal, there’s always a debate. Everything else that I do on the pitch is never valued.
But this does not upset me. I will keep on fighting,” he added.
“Higuaín is enjoying very good form at present and he will be even better in the future,” he said of Pipita.
Whats your take on this?
P.S: Wesley Sneijder is close to a full recovery and for the first time since he got injured he did some ball work. Go Sneijder Go!
raul will play @ madrid until he's 80.....all he wants to do is play....esp. in CL....forget about winning. It's way past time that real get a replacement and start feilding future strikers. Ever wonder why real can't seem to buy a striker? It's because Raul won't give up his starting spot. No striker in his right mind would want to be hot in his youth and go there to be benched. I always ask myself what the hell is Saviola thinking?
As long as raul is getting the goals for us i have no problem with him.He is a real madrid legend and an admirable one and remember AC Milan still have the likes of Inzaghi playing actively for them.So i see no reason why we need to wish him out of the squad

This time i totally agree with u!!ok maybe raul has some ups and downs but for god sake he is the most honorable player in te world!!!HALA MADRID!!

Well, honorable or not thats another story. For example, we used to have Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham ..etc and in their last years at the club they were not performing well. People said they were legends, agreed but the team was suffering.
Thats why Capello was brought in, to renew the team. Thats football. However, legends should be honored and I think what Real has given to Raul is tremendous.
