Real Madrid Offer €40m For Villa + news roundup

Written by Adam Bader on Friday, 25 July 08, 10:28 AM

This summer is boring, right?

Ramon Calderon still wants a star signing this season, and with Ronaldo still being a Man UTD player, there is only one player who can actually come and that is David Villa.

Valencia have been going through a tough period, they have debts and a lot of problems, and the Spanish press report that Calderon has offered them €40m for Villa who performed brilliantly in the Euro2008.

Recently, a Valencia official said:

"We cannot assure people that we will not have to sell one of our stars,"

As for Villa, he wants titles and personal awards, and right now, Valencia can't help very much. This is an opportunity for Real to approach him. Yes, there are other clubs who are interested including Arsenal, but Real has the advantage of being a Spanish club of having Spanish players and friends of Villa and of being a great club too.

However, If this to happen, Real will need to offload some players especially in the front. A few names have been mentioned in the press lately and they are Soldado, Baptista and Saviola, although the later is seemingly staying this season. Baptista is definitely going and Soldado is still negotiating with Real and Getafe over a permanent move, so nothing can happen unless those guys leave.

Pepe says that Cristiano Ronaldo, his country man, wants to move to Real Madrid. Yeah, we already know that Pepe, but whats the point?

"It's normal he wants to come. If he comes to Madrid he'll be welcomed by everyone," Pepe said in The Sun.

"The directors, players and fans welcome you here - Cristiano won't have a problem.

"He has said many times that he likes Madrid. He knows the great history of Madrid and the club that it is."

World Cup Champion, Fabio Cannavaro, is making good progress. He is improving and he will make a full recovery soon. Fabio got injured during the Euro2008 with Italy and was said to be out for three months, but here he is close to a full recovery.

“Everything is going well with my recuperation,” he assured. “Eventhough I am noticing the fatigue, I am feeling good and I do not feel anymore pain.”

Bravissimo Cannavaro, Bravissimo!!

Real have dismissed rumors linking them with a move for Barca's striker, Samuel Etoo. As I said in my previous post, this can never happen due to the player history and thats it.

"There is no Eto'o case," Calderon told Marca. "I do not know where this has come from because more than anything, it is logical, that Barcelona would not sell a player to Real Madrid.

"We have a very strong squad that has just won the league. If we do end up signing players, there will be very few and they will be very good."

UPDATE: Hamburg has officially received an offer from Real Madrid for Van Der Vaart and said no. Thanks to Gonzalo for the heads up.

Thats about it. A very fuzzy brief of rumors that keeping showing up everyday, this summer is really boring.

LINK do you really believe that Van Der Vaart is needed? He is pretty much like Sneijder, and in addition to Sneijder we have Robinho and Robben plus Drenthe. But since that the were real offer from Real, then those rumors are true. As you said, their refusal to negotiate doesn't mean it is over, but it means it just got started. Maybe, he would replace Guti, but right now, I believe he is not needed at all, we have many options.

Stay where U are Villa, you are a good striker but too weak for my point a veiw. Give me a strong striker like a Eto, Drogba anyday over Villa, If Villa was to come for 40Mil who's place would he take on the starting eleven or would he come on as a sub? 40Mil is alot to pay for such a quality striker to keep him as a sub, and i know he wouldn't be happy. Van Der Vaart is also good but we need some stronger presence especially to do much better in CL. Who really want's these players, the coach or the president??? I am hearing what Calderon want's, if this continues Calderon is going to get on my nevers "Let The Coach Desides Which Players He Want"!!!!!!!!

I dont think Villa is weak. I see him in relation to a secondary striker similar to Raul. But I have to agree that he wouldn't fit because we have Raul Ruud and Higuain. 40 mil is too much. Van Der Vaart also wouldn't find a spot. He is similar to Sneijder but he can play defesively so he is versitile. I do agree that it seems like Calderon and Pedja are just buying players not because we need them but because that are available.

Villa could be very usefull! He has expiriance what we
could use if CR doesn,t come now!
And please no Eto no Drogba!
They are strong players but real "power" has only
Cristiano!

I think Madrid are realizing what they really need to do with the squad. First of all instead of focusing on Ronaldo they need to focus on the future. Ruud and Raul are getting older and really have at most 2 more years left in them. Villa would be the ideal replacement for Raul. Next they need to find a replacement for Rudd (Huntelaar, Benezema, Pavylchenko). With the money left over get either Van der Vart or Diego to replace Guti is also reaching the end of his career. Imagine this squad for the next 4-5 years. We would be in contention year in and year out.

As I said, Real are going to offload two or probably three strikers, hence a replacement is needed. Both of Ruud and Raul are pretty old and you can't guarentee that they would be fit for all the season, so no, Villa won't be a sub.

Real ready to splash out millions again, what a surprise ;)
Calderon doesn't seem to know that much about Real's history because Barca & Real Madrid have sold players to each other before so he should stop making it sound impossible
