Robinho Scores As Real Draw Frankfurt 1-1

 Robinho

Real Madrid has finished their pre-season with a 1-1 draw last night in Germany against tough side, Frankfurt.

Bernd Schuster started with Casillas in goal, Ramos (Salgado, min.65), Heinze (Metzelder, min.45), Pepe (Javi García, min.79) and Torres in defense, Diarra (De la Red, min.45), Guti (Baptista, min.45), Van der Vaart (Higuaín, min.65) and Robben in midfield, while Raúl (Saviola, min.65), Van Nistelrooy (Robinho, min.45) started up front.

As with all friendlies, the game started with the two teams trying to understand each other. Real had two problems last night: defense and attack. Well, at least to some point.

Cannavaro was clearly missed in the defense and such a defender is hard to replace, so Schuster needs to work on this one. I would use Pepe and Heinze in central defense while Ramos on the right and Marcelo on the left. Metzelder is still not convincing me yet.

The midfield looked okay with the absence of Sneijder.

Van Der Vaart was again impressive. For Valencia's game I would start with him alongside Guti and with Robinho and Robben on the wings.

Upfront, there is nothing to talk about. Raul and Van Nistelrooy need to improve and concetrate more. As Schuster said in his post-match comments, we need to work on "finishing" games. A striker like one of those can't miss the goal, well at least in most of the cases.

Robinho wasn't that bad and I really am glad to see him scoring again. I like him a lot and I hope Real will resolve the problem.

All in all, it was a good match. It gave the internationals some playing time. Now, we have got Valencia up coming and for me, that match is must-win.

Alright, here are some of Schuster's comments:

Are you satisfied with your team's performance?
It was the match we all expected. It was very interesting for such a special occasion. The fans were great and enjoyed so many close calls. I saw some interesting things. I am pleased. We are now focusing on the weekend. There were no injuries and I am satisfied.

What areas will your work on heading into the Super Cup?
There were two things I disliked today. The first was the goal. We must improve set piece plays. The second was our finishing. We cannot miss or else we will pay dearly. We will have many problems come Sunday if we miss chances which take so much effort to create.

How would you rate the performances of your internationals?
Most important is that they played their first minutes and proved they are unquestionable starters for our team. For Metzelder it was important that he not reinjure his foot. I am also pleased with Rubén de la Red. They all withstood the rhythm of the match. Having fresh legs and players like Robinho and Baptista come in in the second half allowed us to play at a faster pace.

Another good match by Van der Vaart.
I am not at all surprised by his integration. Our style of play suits him, as he already proved in Colombia. He is very talented. He will adapt easily and be an important member of this team.

MATCH SUMMARY:

1- Eintracht Frankfurt:

I saw this game and we definitely could have scored three or more goal. I was impressed with Robben he played well and seemed very involved and organized. Van Der Vaart looked like he has been playing in Real for years. He and Raul linked up well. Saviola also showed some impressive moves he had a few shots on goal. Salgado and Pepe showed that they still may need more training. They left too much space for the Frankruft front line to work. In summary it showed that he have a good attack oriented game but our defense is still lacking.

Yes mate, I'm a bit worried about our defense. Against Valencia, both of Pepe and Cannavaro will be out so I would go with Ramos and Heinze as center backs, while Torres plays on the right and Marcelo on the left. I would also play Diarra in front of them just to make sure everything will be ok.

What do you think? Any ideas?

Yeah our defense is struggling and in all honesty we need some help. Madrid has until friday to decide whether or not to bring in Garay this season. In my opinion we pay the 1 million and have him this season. Metzelder is too slow and is showing that still. Salgado isnt the same player any more. Marcelo is in the Olympics so he cant play on sunday, so Sunday it looks like the back line will be salgado, ramps, heinze, and torres. I also think we should have Van der Vaart with Guti and Robben and Robinho. Raul and Rudd need to show up or we really will need that striker that Shuster wants. Hala Madrid!!!

guti and raul and ruud in the bench!? 8O Pablo I've been watching Schister and how his tactics work in Real Madrid and Raul and Ruud pair up better than most striking partnerships in the world. Raul is a hard worker and creates space for the finisher Ruud. Guti can be incosistent at times but he still makes a difference on this team and I think him and Van der Vaart will make anwsome attack in the middle behind Raul and Ruud. If you want young and exciting go watch that worthless team called Arsenal that has many youngsters and havent won anything in years. The best teams in the world have experience, leadership and youth mixed in. Players like Raul are hard to find and it would be a waste to put him on the bench. AND how many times did Guti and Raul save Real Madrid the past two seasons from games they shouldve lost???

Paplo, I understand what you mean, but it is very difficult to find a young player who would have experience, talent and skills that boys like Ruud and Raul have. Maybe Villa could be a candidate, but trust me, it is not always good to have a lot of young players.

You are talking about AC Milan, well, If you look carefully, you would notice that Pato sucks.Inzaghi is their super hero. Pirlo is the meastro, Seddorf kicks ass, Madlini is still alive, and Gattuso is still strong.

I understand you ...but we can't keep depending on two 30 + years player ....who is not Contestant..other major team in the football world is trying to Integrate young with the experience..we need to bring something new to the front line this year....we grown too Predictable in that Position ..

.... and thats why we have Higuain and Drenthe. They are young and they are starting to pick it up from the other experienced players, however, If we only depend on them we might have problems unless they suddenly become too good.

Let's look back on last year. Higuain did a fantastic job coming off the bench. For future players we have the Copa del Rey. Drenthe, Marcelo, Higuain, De la Red will be featured in those games. The core of the youngsters has to be De la Red and Javi. They have the most experience. We have a good squad and Schuster knows it. It just a matter of finding that right rotation and balance between the XI. We just need Garay back and I think we can challenge on all 4 trophies this year.

Not sure. Salgado looked run down during this game. I think it's time for him to hang up his boots or be more involved with other competitions like the Copa del Rey. I think we might play Javi as defender for this game. I'm not to sure about Metzelder. I honestly didn't know he was playing becasue he didn't feature much. We definitely need to play a Def Midfielder to disrupt Silva, Joaquin, and Villa. Diarra will need to play. So from left to right Torres, Heinze, Ramos and Javi. Maybe interchange the last two. with Diarra in front.

Yes I agree that Higuain did an awesome job, but he has to be more consistent. Honestly, it is not always his fault, sometimes Schuster forgets him, but yeah as you said they will be given chances, and the smartest one would be the one who takes them.

It looks like that we will have a problem in the left back position. Maybe Schuster will just lineup Metzelder if he is fit as I don't think Javi would do the job.

Yeah we need a left back. I think Metzelder will play. As for benching anyone, we still have to see. All of the games that they have played have been friendlies and this will be the first competitive game. Let's see how Guti, Raul and Ruud do. We have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Raul was fantastic last season. Ruud had a great Euro 08. Guti impressed me last season but was inconsistent. We just have to wait and see.
