The boardroom situation is reaching boiling point. By all accounts, Rafa has had enough of Rick Parry and his incompitence and indecisiveness. It now looks like he wants someone else to come in and do Parrys job with more authority to make quick decisions and sign off on players. Foster Gillett seems to be the man that will take the job but he is having work permit issues at the moment. Where this leaves Parry, I don't know. Rafa is on holidays this week and seems to think that it should be sorted out to some degree by the time he gets back. I hope he's right. He has said that we need to spend money now or else we'll only ever be contenders for third/fourth spot in the league. It seems that he has two deals lined up now that need signing off on to go through. These are rumoured to be Simao and Gabriel Milito. We've seen when Rafa was at Valencia that he walked when he didn't recieve the backing he needed. I fear that it might be the same situation here if he doesn't get what he wants. That would be an absolute disaster for the club.
In trasnfer news there's been a few bits and pieces. Bellamy wants his future sorted. I don't blame him but I do think he'll leave to go to one of Villa, Blackburn or West Ham. Marseille want to do a permenent deal on Cisse. I hope that we get a decent price for him. Momo isn't happy with his current status. As I've said before, I can see him being sold for the cash. Samuel Eto'o made some very positive comments about us over the weekend. If he does move, I can see us getting involved but I would imagine that he's more likely to stay at Barca and he'd be very expensive anyway. Finally, we've signed two Hungarian kids, called Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon from MTK Hungaria. Nemeth is highly rated and played well in teh uefa u-17 competition last year.
How many league goals did Berbatov score? 12. How many league goals did Kuyt score? 12. I'm a big fan of both players and would have been happy for us to get Berbatov last year. Dirk has done well for us and I think that he can do better again next season. I would like to see him play a little bit further up the pitch.
Yup, but Berbatov has what.. 24 for the season?
Not saying Kuyt isn't a good player, but he's always been a hustling, bustling centre-forward. You'll rarely ever see him tricking his way past players or scoring spectacular goals or finishing outrageously.
Would you agree that what Liverpool were lacking up front was a touch of class or finesse? And if so, wouldn't you say that Berbatov would be the answer to that and not Kuyt?
Berbatov may have 24 for the season but he also played a lot more games given Spurs long run in the Uefa and domestic cup runs. Liverpool were knocked out early in the League and FA cups. That's why the league is the fairest comparison where they both played a similar number of games against the same opposition.
I agree that Kuyt doesn't have the same trickery as Berbatov but he did score some good goals and was very unlucky to hit the bar on a few occasions. As I said in my earlier comment, I would like to see him play higher up the pitch, nearer the goal. Given that Bellamy is leaving, I would like to see someone with pace come in. Hence Berbatov isn't the answer. I could see Kuyt and Tevez/Eto'o being lethal, but I don't know if we'll sign either.
I am hoping that Kuyt, like Drogba will excel in his 2nd year as he acclimates to the Prem. He needs a little more time. But we also need a world class striker to complement Crouch and Kuyt. Eto'o really doesn't fit into the Liverpool style, but I would change it and build it around him, if we could get that classy player. Tevez could be interesting.
Hi Medelliae. I agree that Kuyt has room for improvement and should get better in his second season. His Dad was seriously ill with cancer this year which can't have helped his form.

Thanks for the update Red. This is so frustrating. What is wrong with Perry? We need more quality to contest in all competitions at the highest level. Give me a break!
Nemeth is a very good player, and you've done well to get him. He is only a kid though.
Have to say Rafa is not the most intelligent buyer anyways. Liverpool were interested in Berbatov last summer (as were so many other clubs), but they signed Kuyt instead for about the same fee. OK, Kuyt works his socks off, but strikers are there to score goals. There is no way that Berbatov would have signed for Spurs if he had the choice of signing for the 'Pool.
